Beat YouTube's Algorithm and Grow Your Channel!

Trena shares strategies for growing a YouTube channel, covering content style, engagement, equipment, playlists, and live streams. The video targets creative entrepreneurs looking to improve their presence on the platform.
If you think the YouTube algorithm is out to get you because you're consistent here on YouTube, but you consistently get no views and it feels like you're growing subscribers, maybe one a week, stick around because in this video I'm going to share how you can beat the YouTube algorithm and start growing your YouTube channel faster. Hi, my name is Trena, and on this channel I help creative entrepreneurs just like you figure out how to start using YouTube in your business strategy. Now, YouTube can be a very tough platform to master and we can tend to think it's the algorithm that's against us and there's some secret formula that we can do to get our videos seen on YouTube. So I'm going to walk through a couple things that you can do to make sure YouTube starts recommending more of your content. Because here's the thing, it's probably, probably not the YouTube algorithm. It might be your videos. It's not you, it's me. The first thing I want you to look at is your own content. Have you changed up your content in a while? Have you changed the style? Have you gone maybe from a walk and talk vlog or a talking head or a tutorial? Have you changed up your content in any way in the past six weeks? I've done this recently. I've done some vlog style videos. I've also done some tutorials because I want to see what kind of content my viewers respond to most. And I, and more importantly, I want to see what kind of content people watch longer. Because what's important to succeed here on YouTube is really focusing on creating content your audience watches. So you want to get most of your people to watch to the end of your video. And if you don't change up the type of content you're doing, you're never going to know if maybe if you tweak something, it might keep people watching longer. The next thing I want you to look at is are you exciting on your videos? Now, I know sometimes we think we need to have this camera personality here on YouTube, but, but it's not necessarily it. You've just got to show you're passionate about what you're talking about, especially if you're teaching people or you want people to follow along in your life journey. If you're not excited sharing your story or sharing your teachings, nobody else is. So if you just sit there and you kind of talk like this and you share how to do something, people aren't going to want to watch. They want to know you're excited about it. You want to get them excited. So check out your content, see if you could be a little more passionate about what you're sharing. The next thing to do is break the routine. I talked a little bit about that earlier. But break the routine you have of maybe shooting videos the same way, the same day, the same style, and see if changing the way you do things or changing the way you upload your videos or even the day you upload videos may spark some new growth in your YouTube channel. And just because you've set in one way to do something doesn't mean you have to stay that way for forever. Change is okay, so change it up a little bit to see if that sparks some additional growth on your channel as well. This is a big one. And you have got to stop keyword stuffing. Stop trying to put as many of those keywords in your title. Because here's the thing, it's not robots clicking on your videos. It's actual people like me clicking on your videos. So I don't need to see all of these keywords for search in a title. I want to know what I'm going to learn in that video or what's the story that's going to happen. I like to use CO scheduler headline analyzer because when you're creating titles for your videos, they've got to be like headlines on magazines and newspapers, right? So use that tool. It's totally free to see how well your titles are here on YouTube because we aren't pitching robots. Another thing you can start doing is add B roll or even changing the zoom on your video. So right now I'm talking, but I'm far enough away from my camera that my editor can zoom in, he can zoom me to the side and we can also pull in B roll. So whether that be a screen share of my YouTube analytics like right now, or it's additional footage of me working at my desk to show you how I do something. Anything you can do to keep the eye engaged every seven to 10 seconds. If you watch television, you'll notice that your favorite shows are switching the scene that amount of time. Because you've got to keep people engaged. You've got to keep the eye engaged, whether it's zooming in, adding text, or adding B roll to keep them watching. Next thing you could do is maybe upgrade some of your equipment, whether it's buying a mic or buying some lighting that I have around here. I started out with the bare basics. I started out with a window and my iPhone and from there I then bought some umbrella kits And a camera, the Canon G7X. And then from there I upgraded to a microphone, which I have sitting right here, which is the blue Yeti. And then I upgraded to a ring light. So start with what you can, but if you start saving some money, maybe start upgrading some of your camera equipment so that the quality of your video could go up. Here's one that's really easy you could do right now. Well, after you watch my video, and it's to create some playlists. So because YouTube wants people watching more content, if you can create bingeable playlists that keep people watching, YouTube is going to recommend more of your content. So what are some similar types of content that you create on your channel that you can put into a playlist? For me, I've talked about how to get more views and subscribers here on YouTube. So I could create a playlist with a clickable title, like the best way to grow your YouTube channel with more views and subscribers, and, and start throwing in those videos into a playlist. Then I can start recommending them down in the description box like I have right now, or with a card right now, because that's going to get people watching more of your content. That's going to show YouTube that your channel is getting more watch time and YouTube's going to start recommending more of your content. An easy way to also bump up your growth here on YouTube is to go live. I was going live every Thursday doing free channel reviews, and it was a great way not only to connect with my audience, but I was using the features that YouTube wants us to use. So they started suggesting more of my content. So what's a way that you could go live? Could you do free Instagram audits or website audits or maybe just share what's going on in your day or do a Q and A with your audience? How's the way you could go live here on YouTube? The next thing you can do to really amplify your growth here on YouTube is if you're posting once a week, bump it up to two times a week. Trust me, the more content that you create, the more people you are going to draw to your channel and the more YouTube is going to recommend your content. Now, you got to make sure that content is good content and people are watching it to the end. But the more content you create, the more opportunity you can get people to your channel. Now, if you're already doing two times a week, maybe you just start incorporating a live every single week. That brings your content up to three times a week. But with a live video, it's not as much editing and shooting. You can go live to connect with your audience and don't have to worry about all that extra editing. Now, if you're ready to take your YouTube channel to that next level, make sure you click that playlist that is on your screen right now. And don't forget to subscribe to my channel because I'm giving you new tips, tricks and strategies every Monday and Wednesday on how to use YouTube strategically in your business. Thank you so much for watching and I'll see you in the next video. Bye.
