Best Tools to Grow Your Email List from Scratch in 2019

Trena Little walks through tools for building an email list from nothing: ConvertKit, Mailchimp, LeadPages, Canva, and Hello Bar. She shows how each one works and when to use it.
Whether you are trying to build a YouTube channel or you are trying to grow your business, you've probably heard people talking about building or starting an email list. But you might be wondering, how do you even get started building this email list? Or how do you get more people on your email list? In this video, I'm going to share with you some of the best tools that are going to help you start and grow your email list. Hi, my name is trena. I'm a YouTube strategist, and on this channel, I'm committed to helping you do YouTube better. One of the best ways to do YouTube better is letting your people know.
You have a new video.
Sometimes YouTube notifications don't always go out. So if you have an email list, you can send an email to your subscribers telling them, hey, a new video is up, and here's why you should watch it. So how do you even get started doing this? Or if you already are doing this, congrats, you're one step ahead. But how do you get people on that list? So the first tool that I recommend is ConvertKit, which is also called C Siva and Mailchimp. Mailchimp is free for you to get started, and it's free for up to so many subscribers. I'm not sure on that number, but it's enough to help you get started. And ConvertKit has levels that it charges you for based on how many email subscribers you have. The reason why it's important to have a platform like this is because it's a lot easier for you to collect these emails if you're just collecting them by putting them in your contacts.
It just makes it a lot difficult.
With tools like ConvertKit and also Mailchimp, you can just go right into the program and mass email your subscribers. The next tool that's great to have is LeadPages. Now, LeadPages does do similar things that ConvertKit does, but what LeadPages is for is to have a landing page. So basically a webpage that you send people to for them to put their email into. Now, LeadPages connects with ConvertKit, and you can also create like a landing page through ConvertKit as well. The reason why I like leadpages is because I'm able to get some statistics. I'm able to see how many people went to that lead page and how many people converted. So I'm able to see my conversion rates. This tells me whether or not people are liking my content. Maybe I need to tweak what I'm saying. Maybe I need to offer them something else. But it just helps me kind of get an analytical review on whether or not what I'm offering to people to get onto my email list is something they actually like. Which leads me to a sidebar. To get people on your email list you need to give them something. You can't just make it a newsletter. So many people have newsletters. So many people do not want to subscribe to newsletters anymore. So you need to give them something to subscribe to your email list. For me, I offer a script template that you can sign up and get. I also have a YouTube channel checklist that you can sign up and I'll send that to you. And I also have a YouTube roadmap where I walk through the 10 things you need to do like a roadmap to follow to make sure your YouTube channel is set up properly. So people will give me their email address on my lead page and then I will automatically send send them these free things that are going to help them. It gives them value. So you can you create a checklist or a how to or a template or maybe even a little quick training video as well that people would want. They'd be willing to give you their email address to get that free thing.
That you have now.
If you want any of those, I'll link them down below that I have. All right. The next tool is Canva. So so Canva or PicMonkey. Either one works, but I find Canva works a little bit better to make these PDFs. So I talked about having like a checklist or a roadmap, that type of thing. You can create those PDFs inside of Canva. What's also great with Canva is they have a lot of templates already worked out for you. All you have to do is go in and change them to what you're going to provide. Also I'll link you to a shop that sells a lot of amazing templates on already done for you. It's over@nicolette Styles.com she has a lot of amazing things in that shop for you already pre made out. All you have to do is just update it for your content. This is how you're going to get people on your list and Canva just really makes it a lot easier for you to create those PDFs. Another tool that I have been loving and it's newer to me is hello Bar. And what hello Bar actually does is has a little pop up on your website which is totally okay by Google standards and it gets people to your lead page or your landing page to get them on your email list. I'm actually going to show you how this program works on my computer because like I said, I've really been loving it and I've been seeing a lot of great results. So if you've been having a hard time increasing the email subscribers that you have, but you know people are coming to your website, definitely watch this one the whole way through because it's going to show you how to really increase the subscribers based on the traffic you're already getting on your website.
Alright, so hello Bar really allows you to increase your conversions on your website. So you can have this little pop up right here that you see. You could also have a full screen pop up. So let's say this would come up and take a whole entire screen and then you could also have a announcement.
Bar right up here.
So what happens is this may entice people who come to your website that wouldn't have jumped on to your free opt in, which in this case it is my launcher roadmap. They can click here to get it and they're instantly taken to my landing page to get them on my email list. So what makes hello Bar different and more valuable than some other things is the data it gives you and the customization. So right here when you log into hello Bar, you're going to get a summary of kind of what's happening with your hello Bar. So, so we'll see that my pop up has been seen over 4,000 times in the last month and it's got over 111 clicks. That's 111 people to my landing page that I wouldn't have probably had without hello bar. That's potentially 111 new email signups. But my landing page generally converts around 50% which is pretty high. So that's 50 new people that I would not have got without hello Bar. What else you can also do in here is kind of manage and see how well it's converting. This is going to tell you it's converting at 2.5%. You can test these. These are three different versions of that popup. And so I can say, okay, this one's performing better, let's do that one. Or this one had 128 conversions. So let's do that one because it's performing better. You can also go in here and edit these. So I want to show you what this looks like on the inside because you can really customize these. So this is the slider that I have going in. And again you can change the URL Target right now I have it going to my lead page. You can change your slider styling so you can change this color to maybe your bright pink color. You can change the button styling. So what color do you want the button to be? You can also add in different imagery here as well. And then here are some of the different types that you can do. You can do, like I said, a bar across your entire website. A modal. So one that pops up into the middle of your website. The slider which I showed you, the page takeover which takes over the entire page and also this little alert one. You can also select your settings. So do you want the hello bar branding on there?
Obviously I don't.
I want people to think it's mine. Animation entry and exit. And if you hover over these eye icons actually tells you what that will do. It also says allow visitors to hide the slider. You can have that on or off.
You can.
And when does it display? What I've learned from hello Bar, I've actually talked to the people there is you don't want to hit people with one of these pop ups as soon as they land your page. It's very off putting. You want them to kind of see what you have going on on your channel before you hit them with one of these popups. So I have a 10 second delay before mine comes up. You can also select a goal. So do you want to collect emails? Do you want to get a phone call? Do you want social traffic target URL?
I just really love how easy easy.
Hello Bar makes it because it can seem overwhelming.
Oh no, I gotta create this pop up. Like what do I do?
How do I make it really high? Converting and so if you click on.
One of these hello bar really takes.
You through each step to make sure you're optimizing this graphic and all this text and the imagery right here for your specific goal in mind. So if you're interested in trying out hello Bar, I'll put a link down in the description box that you can go over and try it out for.
Free for 30 days. All right, now that you know how to get people on your email list, let's start getting you in front of more people with the right videos. So watch the video that is on your screen right now because it's going to walk you through the three videos you need in your YouTube strategy to get more people to your landing page. Make sure you click on that and I'll see you over there in that video.
