Camera-Ready in No Time: The Surprising Shortcut!

A creator shares practical tips for looking confident on camera without overthinking it. The video covers mindset, makeup, lighting, wardrobe, and background setup to help you make effective YouTube videos for your business.
Getting ready to show up on camera does not need to be this big production you probably think it is. So you can finally stop avoiding getting on camera now. But I get it. I've absolutely been there through bouts of rosacea, crooked teeth, and even the ugliest background of them all. So I want to share with you how to get camera ready fast, feel confident, and skip all that drama that goes into video. And it's not just about makeup, but it's like the whole setup of being on camera. I'm going to come right out of the gate and tell you right now, the biggest barrier from getting on camera isn't your setup, your appearance or your equipment, or even your background. It's your mindset. For some reason. Because I've worked with many clients that feel this way. They feel there needs to be a different presence on YouTube. For some reason, they think YouTube needs to be more professional or more polished or just needs to be extra than when they show up on Instagram. But the thing is, there are entire brands, personal brands, built on vlogging, where they show up as themselves. And why do they have a community? Why are they able to get brand deals and sell merch and have partnerships with big names like Legos and l'? Oreal? It's because they show up as themselves and make a connection with their viewer. They're not worried about showing up perfect and polished. They connect with their viewer, with who they are. And we're also hearing this more on Instagram right now as well. More people are saying no to the perfectly curated feed and sharing more real, real photos, less facetune and less filtered photos, because we want realness. And with the rise of AI and more AI, we need more human connection. And that means you need to show up with who you are. Exactly. On video. And that's going to make the biggest impact on not only your community, but on your business as well. Your audience cares most about the message and the value that you are bringing them. They don't care about your makeup. They don't care about your wrinkles, they don't care about your outbreak, your gray hair, because they are going through those things as well. And they can connect with you on those issues that we are struggling with. When I first started on YouTube way back 10 years ago, I worried about everything. So much so that I would still. I still batched back in 10 years ago, but I would film a video legit, go to my bathroom, wipe off all my makeup, do my makeup again, and do my hair differently because I thought people were Gonna notice. She sat down and did these videos back to back to back. Nobody notice. Not a single person noticed. I also hated my voice. I thought, oh, my gosh, no one's gonna listen to this. I absolutely hate my voice. Here I am 10 years later, still showing up and still making sales every day in my business, and I don't hate my voice as much. Even during peak pandemic, I got rosacea, like, massively. And it wasn't just like the red rosacea. It was bumpy, it was textured, and makeup did not cover it up. Even though I hated the way I looked, I would put my makeup makeup on. I would look in the mirror and be like, oh, my gosh, this looks horrible. So many people are gonna say something. I still showed up on video, and I didn't have a single person say anything about my skin. But I did have multiple comments, hundreds of comments throughout the last five years of how those videos with me with Rosacea has helped them with the value that I provided them and the content in those videos. And here's what I learned throughout all of this. It is all in our own head. As I did start to talk more about my Rosacea journey, so many people reached out and connected and said I felt this way and that I didn't want to show up on video because I had rosacea, too, and because I'm creating strategic videos for my audience not to go viral. I didn't have randos watching my videos to say mean things. I had my. I created the strategic videos my audience would be attracted to and my audience connected to. And I didn't, like I said, have any troll comments about my skin either. You need to remind yourself. And I know this is hard, especially when we're dealing with and struggling with personal appearance things. The value you provide is what's keeping people watching, not the way you look. And the truth is, we're honestly our own biggest critic. All the flaws and all the tiny little things, we nitpick about ourselves. No one in 100 years will probably even notice. In fact, those of you that are watching, watching, have you noticed my rosacea at all? All right, so let's talk about how to streamline getting camera ready. And I'm not gonna dive into makeup. If you want me to do a full makeup routine about what I do for makeup, go ahead and comment makeup below. But I don't think you personally need to do, like, a full beat of makeup to show up on video. In fact, I spend maybe 10, 15 minutes doing mine. Some quick foundation, some Blush, bronzer, mascara and like, that is legitimately it. And then I have a tinted chapstick. That is it. So let's dive into the other things. Lighting is going to be really important because that's what's going to make you shine or make you look better. And the best lighting you can get is going to be a window. Now, I have a window right here to the side of me, and if I could, I would just set my camera right there. But the background that you would see is a door. And that's not as sexy or as appealing as. As my calendar, my bookshelf. Right. So the other thing you can do is get a ring light that's going to give you the most even lighting over your face, which just makes it look better. It kind of flushes out those wrinkles. And it's the lighting that's going to make the biggest difference in how you appear on camera. But you don't need anything fancy for wardrobe. Honestly, don't overthink this. Like I said earlier, I would go change my entire makeup and hair. I will do my makeup and hair in the morning and just grab three or four shirts. Something comfortable, something neutral. Also, think about your background as well. I have a really dark blue navy shirt that I love, but it's obviously not going to look great in this room with the navy wall. But I cycle through many of the same shirts, so I have about five or six shirts that I will cycle through, depending on what the season is. And if you look at my thumbnails, you will see my cycle through them. I do want to briefly mention your setup behind you. I'm going to tell you you're probably overthinking it because when you're on video, you're only seeing this square right here. You're not seeing right now. It's the what I'm filming this, this third of the year, the third of January, and we've cleaned up the house. So a lot of stuff that was supposed to go in my office is just kind of thrown in here right now, and it's a mess on the floor. I've got markers over here, but you don't see that. So you don't need to overthink about what your background is going to be. Just make it simple. And remember, it is only this square right here. What's really going to alleviate showing up on camera is being prepared. And I talk about this in countless videos. My video game plan. I will link to a video. I deep dive into it here by having a video game Plan prepared before you sit down to film is going to give you more confidence, is going to give you a plan. That's why I call it the video game plan. So you know exactly what you need to say, exactly what you need to get to make sure it is the best video possible. And then when it comes time to filming, just keep everything simple. Like I said, a camera, your phone, natural lighting, make the setup easy. The more you overcomplicate how you're going to do it, the more barriers are going to create for yourself and not do it and miss out on the opportunity that YouTube has right now for business owners. And I'm going to tell you, the sooner you get started and stay consistent here, the better you're going to get. Because unfortunately, the saying goes, practice makes perfect. But I will say you're not ever going to get perfect here. I know every time I shoot my first video when I'm batching, it's going to take me a little bit of messing up to kind of get into the grind, get into the rhythm, and I'm going to mess up in every single video. So no one video that I ever shoot is going to be perfect. But it's good enough because I focus on the value that I am bringing you. The more you show up, the more you do this. And you can go back to my oldest videos and see legitimately how cringe they are. But the more you do it, the easier it does get and the more confident you do feel, feel, feel, feel showing up. And I get it. I used to overthink every single detail. I used to not be able to film when my family was home because I didn't want them to hear me. I was so nervous about every single new might hear and then I got over it because it doesn't make a difference in the value you're providing in your video. In fact, a few weeks ago, I was doing my content while my kids are home because they Christmas break is forever and my kid walked in while I was filming and I just left it there because guess what, that's real life. And we're all experiencing kids at home for what feels like forever. And sometimes we aren't going to get an empty house. But we still need to show up and provide value to our audience if we want to be making consistent sales in our business. Why else are we creating content? We're not creating content for fun. I don't know about you, I love creating YouTube videos. But what is the ultimate goal of my YouTube videos? It's to get in front of you, teach you something exciting and good and get you excited to do video. So that you want to join my coaching program. So that you want to try out my video game plan or grab my workflow, the prep system. Right? That is why us as business owners show up creating content. So let me talk about a few things you might be thinking about right now. You hate the way you look on camera. Maybe your roots are bad. Maybe you got to lose that holiday weight. Maybe you just like Trina. I look too old to be on YouTube. First of all, let me address more and more people over the age of 50 are getting on YouTube and are seeing massive results because guess what? Gen X and the baby boomers are retired, becoming retired. And they're watching YouTube videos and they're starting second careers. So even if you're over the age of 50, you're still set up pretty well for success on YouTube. But most people are feeling those same insecurities that you are feeling. That's what makes us relatable. That's what makes that human connection. Your audience isn't there to judge you if you're creating the right videos. Remember, my whole strategy is not about going viral to the masses. My strategy is about creating the content that you're ready to buy. Viewer is looking for. When they're in that buyer behavior, they're looking for a solution on YouTube. That's when they find your videos. This is a very specific audience that needs information that you're sharing that will appreciate that information and that's what will help you turn viewers into customers and clients. They're not there to judge you about what you look like. The other thing I get a lot too is Trina. I just don't know what to say on YouTube. Again, I mentioned my video game plan. There is a specific format to follow on YouTube that does the best because content for YouTube is designed a certain way. Just like Instagram content, just like TikTok content. And when you've follow the structure that I teach in my video game plan, you do learn what to say and how to say it. So it looks like you were always meant to be on YouTube. I'm hoping you have the confidence now to take YouTube seriously. Because I want to share with you just the three things that you really need to do to set up your YouTube channel for daily sales.
