This is a livestream from the Tips with Trina YouTube channel where Trina performs live channel audits and gives actionable advice to viewer channels. She greets participants, announces the weekly schedule, and then audits channels (so far: Epic Girls Daily and Meredith) focusing on clarifying channel niche/audience, improving banners, organizing playlists by theme, creating consistent thumbnail templates, and crafting value-proposed, audience-focused titles. She also discusses testing thumbnails using YouTube Studio metrics (click-through rate) and tailoring visuals to audience preferences.
Hi. Hello. Hello. I'm making sure everything is set up here. I got things going on over here so I can see, but. Wow. Hello. Welcome to a new year here on Tips with Trina. I see so many of you already in the comments. That's awesome. And it looks like two of you already swiped up some channel audits here today. So let me see how quickly we can get through some of them to see if we can add maybe a third one on, but. Hello, Epic Girls Daily. Hello, Meredith. Hey, Toby. Hey. Pinky Touch. Hi. Handy and crafty. Wow. Hi. Organized to save Quinn Kalaya. Not great with pronouncing names. The Recycled Mom. Wow. Wow, you guys, I'm so excited. Daniella. Carmelita. Oh, Carmelita just hit 100 subs literally a minute ago, and she is one of the channels that we gave an audit on last month. So just like a couple weeks ago. That is awesome, Carmelita. I love it. I'm so proud of you. I. I'm so happy. So welcome back. Welcome back. We are going to be doing these lives. I'm sorry, I'm just getting situated. It's a little squeaky chair. Every Wednesday at 1:00pm Eastern Standard Time. So make sure you are subscribed to this channel. Make sure you do have that little bell notification, or you just pop on over to your calendar and set yourself a reminder for 1pm Eastern Standard Time every Wednesday. We're going to try to get into a routine here of doing these because you've all loved them so much. So let's just see if we can keep that going here in the new year. Hope you all are having a great start to the new year. We're having a sick start here. I'm gonna get everybody's channels up here in a second as I talk through this. But, yeah, so my family is all sick. We have ear infections, upper respiratory infections, eye infections, sinusitis. Like, the whole gamut going on here. Fortunately, I'm the only one that is not sick yet, so let's just hope that stays for now. So I'm gonna go ahead and pull up two channels right now. Oh, yay. The Recycled mom now says Carmelita has 101 subscribers. That is awesome. I love it. I love that you guys are supporting one another. That's a big reason why I created this community, too, is so that we could all help each other. Because YouTube ain't easy. Pardon my English grammar, but it's so great to have friends here to help one another. Even if you can collaborate with one another, let other people know about other channels. It's just so great to have some kind of a support system around each other. All right, so she call, says, call me with my name, Luciana. Okay. I can do Luciana a lot better. All right, so let's go ahead and get started. Started. I see that the Epic Girls Daily was here. The very first one to make a comment like, that's amazing. Fantastic. I was running around trying to shove myself some lunch down my mouth before I got into this. So thank you for being here. Thank you for being on time. And then we are also going to jump into Meredith's channel as well, and we'll see where we're at on time to see if we can add in a third one, because you guys are loving me so much. So let me share my screen and we'll get started. So this is the Epic Girls Daily channel. So what I would suggest for you, can you pop your name in here so I can call you by your name? The Epic Girls Daily Channel. I love that you've already hit a thousand subscribers. That is amazing. I would love a channel review of me in the world. Yep, we're doing yours now. So I love that you hit 1K. That's a huge feat, Emily. So great job on that. The first thing that I would suggest, I always am looking at the channel banner and, wow, you tell us new videos every day, which is amazing. Daily content is so good. But what are you creating daily content for? Who are you creating it for? If someone comes to your channel to check it out, you have a beautiful channel icon, which I'll get into in a second. But I want to know who are you creating content for? Is it for Twitter queens? Is it for teens? Is it for, you know, like, the six to nine year old? Like, who is this epic girl that you are speaking to? What are you speaking to them about? Are you helping them organize? Are you helping them do their hair? So right off the bat, I want to get a general idea from your channel banner. Who. Who you're speaking to. Hi, Rash. So that's something I would update here on your channel banner is really define Epic Girls Daily for the tween or the teen or for young girls. You could even just paraphrase it for young girls looking for tips on something. All right, so I don't know much about your channel as of right now, so that's why I'm just throwing that out. But I want to know when I come to your channel from your channel banner, what you're about. So let me come down to Your next video which is Glam makeup look, which already has over 300 views on it. It's only been up for 16 hours. This is awesome. Emily, you are doing great. One thing that I would suggest just seeing this with a title is maybe a little bit more value proposed title. And what I mean about value proposed title is let me know what the value is in watching this video. So it says, today I'll be showing you my favorite glam makeup look. I hope you enjoy and don't be afraid to ask me some questions. So maybe it's my favorite go to glam makeup look or quick glam makeup look for this weekend or give me kind of a more value for watching this just glam makeup look doesn't really tell me a lot. Especially if this is showing up in search or on suggested videos. People need to know, okay, what am I going to get out of watching this video? So that's what I would do there with your title. For that I'm going to do a little more in depth on thumbnails here in a minute but I want to go through here to see your channel sections and what I'm seeing, it looks like you're a collaboration channel which is so much fun. So Sophie and Laura, Abby, Candace, Emily, this is awesome, ladies. No wonder you're doing daily content. I love this collaboration channel. You guys are great. But what I would have here, while you all are amazing, I would maybe just do a playlist that says meet the girls of the Epic girls daily and then having a video from each of you in there. You can have these playlists. Then under your playlist for your channel sections though, I want you to give me specific video playlists. So let me see if you have any videos here. I mean I'm looking for playlists. So it looks like your playlists are all divided in by people. What I would do is divide playlists by specific content. So okay, let's just use Christmas Haul. For example. I would create a playlist called our or let's just say instead of Christmas Haul because that's very time specific. Let's say it is. You give organization tips. I'm not sure if you guys do or not. Let me just see what kind of videos what I got for Christmas. Christmas Haul. Yes, yes, yes. Turns into a robot. Alright, so it looks like we have a theme here. So with each video that you do a theme, create a playlist for that. So DIY here we have some diy. So for a playlist I would create our easiest DIY videos for you and then put all of these DIY videos into a playlist because now that playlist can rank in search and show up in suggested and also it helps people watch one video after another from you guys. The key here on YouTube is to get people watching and to get them watching longer. So binge watching, accumulating those watch time minutes. So for you, I think one of your first steps since you guys are creating content, consistent new content, is creating playlists that you can then recommend in cards that you can also recommend on end screens and, and then you could also put in your description box to say for more videos on us on DIY projects, watch this and link to a playlist. So that's the first step that I would do for all of you and then obviously updating this to really narrow in on your niche as far as your thumbnails, I would try to find a consistent piece throughout all. So creating some templates for yourselves. So whether it's like four or five different templates you all share, I want all of these to connect in some way. So even though you guys are all different in each thumbnail, maybe you have the same little pink corner here with a logo of some sort. Maybe I would also highly, highly recommend you all where you all use the same font and the same color on your thumbnails as well so that they all connect with each other. Maybe if you're all doing a border, do it consistently for all of your videos. I think you need to really have a clear branding here on your channel together so that if your thumbnails pop up anywhere, your audience is like oh awesome, that is a Epic Girls Daily video. Like I can't wait to watch that. Or, or if it pops up in their subscriber feed or if it pops up in their browse feature, they're easily able to see this is the Epic Girls channel and they're going to go watch your content. Also improving your thumbnails will also help increase your click through rate which will get more people watching. And so that's kind of what I would start off for you guys here is creating those playlists that can get people to watch multiple videos, updating this channel banner and getting your niche and who you're really speaking to. I know you said you're targeting 6 to 14 year olds and you make skits two times a week and two fun freestyle videos a week. How would you suggest we portray on our banner? So for your banners I would just say something along the lines of new videos every day for girls that want to have fun. Or for what is the purpose of your skits? Or what is. What is the niche of your channel? I understand it's girls from 6 to 14, but what are you really focusing on? Are you focusing on how to get through school? Are you focusing on diy? Are you focusing on beauty? Like, when you start to do all of these things, your channel kind of doesn't really stand out for a specific person. So I think you also need to really pin in on, you know, what your niche is. Play with purpose. Had a great suggestion to look at how what's up? Mom brands, their thumbnails. They're all different people. Same channel as well. And also millennial moms check them out as well. Also, there was an older collab channel. I'm not even sure if they do this anymore. This is going to date me when they did it. But it was j. Just like that. I think that was the channel. They were also a collab channel. So take a look at some of those collab channels and see how they're pulling their branding through every aspect of their videos. Okay, Emily, I hope that helps you guys. I think you guys are doing something great. I love that it's five of you girls working all together is such an inspiration to young girls. You definitely need to keep it up. You guys are just doing awesome. All right, now we're going to jump over to Meredith, and Meredith is a photographer. You see, Emily, this gives you a great example of Meredith is providing wedding tips and photog education. So we know right here, looking at Meredith's banner, what to expect from this channel. She's going to give us wedding tips and photography education. Meredith, I think maybe photog. I get it. You're a photographer. If your niche gets the lingo. It might seem to other people that this could potentially be a typo. I totally understand it, but maybe not everybody does. I'd also be careful with this arrow. I'm sorry, excuse me. Because depending on where we're looking at this on desktop, laptop, mobile device, this necessarily isn't always going to line up. So I would maybe just put new videos every week and pop it down here. Oh, no. Carmelita says she lost connection. I think I still see connection on my. And so let me know, guys, if you're still hearing and seeing me. All right, So I would just put new videos every Thursday, Each Thursday right under here instead of that arrow. It might just get confusing. Meredith also has a channel trailer. I would potentially change this to something about you, since this is your channel trailer. See something like what this channel is about or what Meredith Rynkrat's. I'm totally gonna butcher your last name. Meredith. Meredith Ryne Kart's photography is all about, or what my channel is all about. Just so when they see this title, it entices them more to click. Again, it's not necessarily that you want these videos to rank in search or suggested, but you still want them to be enticing for people to click if they're coming to your chann to check them out. I think this is a great icon. You're doing great with that. It's close enough that we can see you. The only slight suggestion would be maybe to zoom in just a little bit. But again, you can see my icon up here. I'm not that zoomed in either, so not a big deal there. Next, I'm going to look at your playlist sections here. And what I'm going to suggest for you as well, Meredith, is to make more value proposed titles. Kind of like I talked a little bit with Emily about. But yes, these are photography tips. But what kind of photography tips? You can get these playlists to rank and show in suggested videos as well. So maybe these are photography tips for the beginner photographer, photographer or photography tips to make wedding shooting easier. All right, really think about, you know, what's going to entice somebody to click. Because I am getting the sense on this channel you're speaking to photographers specifically. So I know you probably have different types of photographers. I'm not sure if you're talking to all types of photographers. So whether it's photography tips for the family portrait, photography photo tips, photography tips for the newborn photographer, that's how I would kind of start making value proposed titles for your playlist. Again, wedding tips and tricks. One thing I am seeing with you, Meredith, it looks like you are targeting. Tell me if I'm right. Brides who are looking for photographers and photographers who shoot weddings. Please tell me if that is correct, yes or no, because that is two different types of audiences and it may be difficult to hit them both here because as I'm seeing here, wedding tips and tricks, two different kinds of audiences. So it could be a bit of a struggle because brides are going to be looking for a different kind of content than photographers and photographers are going to be looking for a different type of content as well. This can resonate with any of you listening right now. This is why it's important to really know who you're speaking to. Because if you are speaking to multiple people, what could happen here? With Meredith is she has somebody that found this great video on what to wear to your engagement photos. Side note, Meredith, for this title I would probably change it to something more enticing like what you can wear to your engagement photos or the best. The five best. Five best outfit ideas to wear to your engagement photos. Make it a little more headliney, make it sound like you're speaking exactly to them. Make sure you hit that pain point instead of just saying what to wear. All right, this is kind of more of a keyword stuff title. Make it more of a human optimized title by saying you know what you can wear at your engagement photos. Okay, back to let's say a bride finds this from Meredith and it's like, wow, Meredith is awesome. I'm just gonna go ahead and click subscribe to her channel. Alright, so they're subscribed to Meredith. The next thing we know, Meredith posts a video on. See, let's use. Let's just say she posts a video on. So since it's for photography, let's just say she posts that video on shoes. Should photographers I know this video is about is Tieks or Rothy's, which are two types of brands of shoes, better for photographers? So let's say the bride sees this new video pop up and they she goes to watch it because she's excited. She watched Meredith's video about what she's going to wear in her engagement photos and then she watches this one and she's like, wait, I'm not a photographer and I don't care what shoes the photographer uses. Yeah, this might be kind of cool, but I'm not really looking for flats. I'm trying to plan a wedding and I subscribed to Meredith's channel to learn more about how to plan my wedding a little bit better. So then you could potentially lose a subscriber and it could happen in the opposite way too. So say your photographer friends subscribe because they're like, wow, Meredith gave us amazing review on what photographers should wear. I can't wait to watch more of her content. And then she posted this series on finding the best wedding photographer. Or she posts that video on what to wear to your engagement photos. And they're like, wait, I wanted some more photography tips from Meredith. I'm just starting out this photography business and I really wanted some tips from somebody who, who's already been doing this. And so they're like, oh, that doesn't really connect with me. And then they're gone. That's why it's so important to really, really understand your target audience and niching, niching on your channel. So Meredith is saying we are using morning theme, so would you recommend or ignoring what they suggest. So morning theme can give you great ideas. But again, you want to optimize your titles for humans. So humans are going to be scrolling through YouTube, looking at search, looking at suggested. So you really need to figure out what is going to connect with your audience and not necessarily keyword stuff, so to speak. Your titles, you want to really hit that person to get them to click. So using you in titles makes people feel like you're speaking to them. Using emotional words really grabs that people don't want to click. And so when you just start throwing keywords in there, it doesn't necessarily help you get clicks because it just doesn't resonate with the person and it really doesn't show a person a value to watch that video. So your title should really show value in that video. So let's say homemade spring spiked eggnog, Signature wedding drinks. Maybe a video. A title idea for this would be the best eggnog recipe for your winter wedding. Okay. Something like that. Or the best eggnog. Yeah, like that. Finding the best wedding photographer. Let's just say five ways you can interview a wedding photographer or five ways you can search on the Internet for a wedding photographer. Let's see how to plan a wedding budget. Five easy steps to plan a wedding on a budget or five secret ways to stay in budget for your wedding. Can you guys start to see how I'm really crafting these titles that are more value proposed than say, stuffing them with keywords? So, Meredith, that's what I would focus on, really focus on those titles. I think you're going to have a difficult battle targeting two different niches. Just kind of what I talked about for your thumbnails. Since you are in the photography business, I would. I've been seeing a little bit more success on my end using Pinterest or Instagram type thumbnails. So I would potentially take some stock photos. Maybe you have stock photos. Maybe you have a stock photo membership or something and use that as the main layer of your thumbnail. Then cutting yourself out and laying that over top of that stock photo and then just having very minimal text. Okay. I'm trying to think of somebody who does this. Well, maybe Holly. She had done some of these. Let me just see something like this. All right, this is an older video of hers from two years ago. But if you can this video right here, say, have a photo that really Describes what you're talking about or shows what you're talking about and then put yourself in here. Remember, this little time stamp will show up right here in the corner. So don't put anything in the corner here or up here. And put very minimal text, so no color blocks on the thumbnail with words. I try to keep my words as minimal as possible. And again, this is something you're going to want to test. So for me recently you will see that I haven't had text recently compared to some older videos. So what I'm doing is I'm looking at these thumbnail click through rates when I do an analytic review of my channel and comparing it to click through rates of these videos that have text and title. For me, I'm realizing for female audiences because mine is major, major female audiences. I know you've got some guys on here. Great. I'm so glad that you're watching. But generally I'm talking a lot to female. But you can still watch dudes. That's totally cool with me. But what I realized is women connected more with realistic thumbnails, styled thumbnails. So getting something from stock photos as opposed to the typical rainbow vomit backgrounds or the solid backgrounds like this. And I only just realized this based on testing on my channel and seeing some of the click through rates. Meredith says, we noticed you changed things up. Yeah, and that's because you can see the evolution of my thumbnails. Right. I've been doing these for a little bit. But you can see I have tried solid backgrounds, I have tried the ombre backgrounds. And this is what you need to understand, friends. It says you need to understand test things. Look at your analytics, see how what you did differently has changed. Okay, so this has been a total evolution. Look, this is all in last year, me testing different types of thumbnails to see what is working. Again. Remember, I'm keeping very minimal text on these thumbnails and then I'm really pitching a value in these titles. So prioritize your business for a three day weekend. That one didn't necessarily do as well, but numbers and lists always do well. This one is at over 600 and it says nine ways to get more views with audience retention. And then my thumbnail is this. Keep their attention. So that's how I want you to think about thumbnails. If your click through rates aren't going up each month, which is something you can look at if you go into the new YouTube Studio beta. I'm going to show you guys a little bit something for you all to try and you go to your analytics and you go to reach viewers, you can see what your click through rate is overall on your channel and then you can go to by video. So if you go to videos over here and let's say we'll go to this one that I had posted last week and you go to analytics, you can go to reach viewers and see what your click through rate is. Okay, so that one's a 5.4% click through rate, meaning over 5,000 people were had saw this thumbnail and 5.4% clicked. So if we go to one of my older videos we can see was that better than an older video with the older thumbnail? See if we can get to one here quickly. This is going a little bit longer, but I'm hoping this helps you guys understand. So here is the solid background that I did. If we go to analytics and we go to reach viewers, that's a 2.7% click through rate. So that told me, look, this isn't working for my audience and that's why I changed it up. Okay, I'm going to go ahead and answer.
