Trena Little walks through her YouTube planning process: brainstorming ideas, researching what competitors make, checking analytics, and using Trello and TubeBuddy to stay organized. The system keeps her publishing on schedule.
You need to come up with some YouTube video ideas and you need to come up with them fast. Hi and welcome back. To those of you who are new, my name is Trena and on this channel I'm here to help you do YouTube better. I get asked all the time about that calendar back there and how I plan so many video ideas and get them all done. Today I wanted to break down my content plan planning process so you can use this to plan your YouTube video ideas out. This is going to help you stay consistent so you can get more views and subscribers on your channel. The very first thing that I do when I start planning out my content is I brain dump. Now you can do this on paper or you can do it electronically. I have a Trello workflow that I use where I put all of my ideas in there so that I'm not losing them, you know, I'm not losing the notebook or the piece of paper that I wrote down. Now before we go further into this, I'm going to go through a lot of my workflow on Trello. If you would like to purchase my Trello workflow, I'll leave the link down below so you can go through the exact process that I go through as I walk through this. So like I said, the first thing I start doing is brain dumping. So I'm going to go to similar YouTube channels like mine, so say Sunny Lenarduzzi, Nick Nimmin, video creators, those types of channels and I'm going to rank their videos by most popular. This is going to give me some ideas. Are these some videos that I would do? Can I do them? Have I done them already And I can refresh them? So I'm going to start writing those ideas. From there. The next thing I'm going to do is go into my analytics and look at my top performing videos. Is this a video that I could recreate? Is this a video I could update? Is this a video that I could have a follow up video? Next I'm going to look at my top performing key. These are the words that are driving traffic to my channel. I'm actually going to boost it out to about a 90 day time frame to get a really good idea of which ideas are driving traffic to my channel. I'm going to write those ideas down, especially if I have any video ideas that are related to those topics. Next I'm going to get off of YouTube for some video ideas. I'm going to pop into Facebook, I'm going to look at some Facebook groups, I'm going to look at my own Facebook group and I'm actually going to drop a question in my Instagram stories and, and here on YouTube in the community tab, see if anybody else has questions. This helps my audience get engaged. This helps me really get an idea of what people are thinking about and what people are posting in Facebook so that I can then create the content that they really need. Okay, now I have this whole list of video ideas, and what I want to do is create a strategy around them. So I'm going to see, are there certain videos that I could group together to make a seamless playlist? So are there videos that would easily flow from one to another to another? I'm going to start grouping them together in potential playlist ideas. Again, my goal is to get people to Netflix style binge my content. So anything I can do to really make it easy and package it in a way to get that binge is going to be golden. Next, I'm going to use TubeBuddy. And I like using TubeBuddy to research ideas and keywords and titles because it just makes it a lot quicker for me. And I can see a little more than I can Normally see using YouTube. If you want to see how I use TubeBuddy more specifically, I have a video. I'll link it up above and in the description box. But again, TubeBuddy just helps make my process a lot quicker. So what I'll do is I'll type my title idea and see what TubeBuddy suggests, see what suggested tags that they have, see what other videos are doing, look at the trending. Is it a topic that will be trending soon or should I save it for another time? And this just starts to really build out my content because my goal is to really pinpoint the title of my video before I even create any kind of content. Now, as I'm doing this research, I'm adding it all to my trello card. I'm going to start typing in some potential titles that I'm thinking about as I start formulating titles. And one other thing is I like to take screenshots of thumbnails from videos that are doing a similar topic to get an idea of what my thumbnail could potentially look like. Now, once I get all this research in, I I'm going to start thinking about my title. What do I want this video to be titled? Again, it's essential to have this title before you move to that next step. So once I finally have my title idea determined, I'm going to move my card over into the scripting section. And then that's when I'm going to start creating the content that goes with that video. It's going to help me really make sure that my hook and my content ties back into that title. If I already know what that title is going to be, I will do this also in chunks of time. I like to batch schedule a lot of my content or calendar blocks. So as I'm researching, I'm doing that maybe like two to three hours one day, and then potentially coming up with the title for maybe 5, 6, 7 videos at a time at another section of time. Then I'm scripting them in another section of time so that my calendar looks something like this. That way, when I sit down to film, like right now, I can shoot multiple videos. My goal today is, I think, eight videos to get done, and then I'm done with content for the next four weeks. I've got other things on my calendar. I got other obligations, and I can't just jump on a camera, camera ready, and shoot this content. It helps me plan my content in advance so that I can stay consistent on my channel. From there, it's just shooting my video, editing my video, getting it uploaded, and scheduling it out. That's basically what you see over here on my calendar are the specific videos that are going live on which day, so I can quickly see, okay, did we get that video out? What do I need to do for that video? Then I can look at my trello board to see where that video is at in the workflow. It also allows my team to see that as well. So I have two other people on my team who help me get my videos ready as well. So it's just a lot clearer process. If you want to ensure you're doing YouTube better, make sure you click that video that is on your screen right now and click subscribe to this channel so you don't miss my videos every Monday and Wednesday to help you do YouTube better. All right, I'll see you in the next video. Bye.
