How to Get Your First 1,000 Subscribers in 2019

Trena Little walks through the fundamentals of growing a YouTube channel to 1,000 subscribers: pick a niche, nail your thumbnails and titles, hook viewers in the first few seconds, post consistently, and engage with your audience.
Alright, you want to know how to get 1,000 subscribers on your channel? Let me show you how. Hi. Or welcome back. If you are new here, my name is Trena and on this channel I'm here to help you do YouTube better. So if you want to learn how to do YouTube better, make sure you click subscribe to this channel. I'm going to tell you exactly what you need to DO to get 1,000 subscribers on your channel. So so that you can start monetizing your channel and also get access to the community tab. All right, first thing is first you've got to know who you're talking to or people like to say your niche. You can't be talking to everybody. I know we're multi passionate but when you are starting out on YouTube and you want to get your first 1,000 subscribers, you've really got to zone in on that particular person that you're speaking to. This way you're going to know exactly what content to create and how to optimize those videos to get in front of those people a lot faster. Once you know who you're talking to, then you can really create those tutorial videos or those how to videos that are searched so frequently on YouTube and get in front of those thousand first subscribers a lot faster. The next thing you need to do is create eye catching thumbnails and create good titles. Now your title and your thumbnail are really that first impression people are going to get and they're going to decide whether or not to click on your video. You've got to get people to click and watch your video if you want them to subscribe. So you've got to spend a little bit of time on this title and thumbnail. What has been working from what I have seen as a YouTube strategist and always having yourself in that thumbnail. People want to know who they're going to watch and they're going to connect with somebody if they can see the whites of your eyes. If you are going to use text on those thumbnails, it should be very minimal text because those thumbnails get very small on a mobile device and so it can be hard to read and confusing for a potential subscriber. You also want to make sure that your thumbnails are all branded in some sort of way. So you'll see on all my thumbnails I have that pink little corner that. That way if somebody happens to click on my video and they like that video and they want to watch more from me, which would potentially feed them into a subscriber status, right. They can go to the suggested videos and instantly see all those pink tabs and watch more of my content, which could get them to subscribe. Start branding some piece of your thumbnails to make it really stand out as your content for titles. You don't just want to keyword stuff these titles, they need to be created as like a headline or, or really pitch why someone should be watching this video. If you just start stuffing two or three or four or five keywords into a title, you're optimizing it for a robot. And us looking for videos aren't robots. We want to be intrigued and enticed by the title that we see to click through again. The key is to get somebody to click on your video, watch it, realize they love what you're talking about, then they will subscribe. Then once they click on it, the next thing you really want to focus on is the very beginning of your video. This is your first chance, your first impression, to get them to watch your video. If that hook isn't enticing or doesn't make them want to keep watching, they're gonna leave your video and they're never going to end up subscribing. So think about what you could really say in that first three to five seconds to get them excited or make them want to watch the rest of your video so that then they're more likely to subscribe to your channel. If you're not sure what kind of videos you want to create, and if you want to get to that 1000 subscriber mark really fast, go look at people in your industry and see what videos they're creating. You'll want to go to their video tabs and then sort them by most popular and see what videos are getting the most traffic to their channel. Create similar videos. You don't want to copy what they're saying, but you want to use that title and use that subject as a great place to start creating content. That's because that means your audience wants that content because that that person is getting a lot of views from that particular topic. Go to a couple people who are talking about similar things as you on their channel and see what are their most popular videos and what's something that you're passionate about that you could talk about on your channel as well. You want to do about 4, 5, 6, as many of these as possible to start getting that traction, that suggested video traction to your channel to bump up that subscriber number to 1000. This might sound obvious, but, but you've got to tell people to subscribe, tell them in your video, tell your email subscribers, tell your social media followers, tell your family, tell your friends, tell people to subscribe. That first 1,000 subscribers is going to be the hardest one to get. And so you've got to get as much support as possible. Even if you only have five followers on Instagram, tell them that you have a YouTube channel and ask them to subscribe. You also want to be consistent on YouTube, even if this just means one video a week. Just be consistent. If you want to hit that 1000 subscriber mark, you want to have as many ways as possible for somebody to find your content. And by creating consistent content, you're getting that out there for people to find you. You're also signaling to YouTube that you are a consistent content creator. And if you're creating good content with this, good hooks that people are watching, YouTube is going to suggest you to more people, which gets you in front of more people, which gets you more subscribers. Okay, we're quickly approaching that 1000 subscriber mark on your channel. What's next? All right, you've got to play nicely with YouTube. So YouTube's goal is to people on YouTube and keep them watching more videos. So while you may want to get people on your email list or to sign up for your opt in or maybe a discovery call, if you're a consultant, you want to play nicely and actually suggest more videos for your viewer to watch. There is a particular time and place to create videos that get people on your email list. But as you're trying to grow those first 1,000 subscribers, it's going to be your goal to keep people on YouTube and watching more videos. So in your videos, your call to action is not only going to be to subscribe to your channel, but to watch that next video and for you to start creating playlists that will get people to watch video after video after video. Once you start proving to YouTube that your channel is creating consistent content and getting people to watch video after video, accumulating watch time minutes, YouTube is going to start suggesting more of your content to more people, meaning more subscribers for you. And this is one a lot of people don't realize, but you want to change a watermark that's really right down here in the corner, I forget which corner, but change it to look like a YouTube button. A lot of people use their logo or their photo, but if you make it look like a red subscribe button, it's going to look like it's a YouTube feature. So then if people hover over that red button, they're going to be able to subscribe to your channel, making it a lot easier for you to reach that 1,000 subscriber mark. If you want to learn more ways for you to get more subscribers on your channel, make sure you watch that video that is on your screen. For right now, don't forget to subscribe to this channel where I help you do YouTube better and I will see you in the next video. Bye.
