Trena Little shows how to use Pinterest to drive traffic to YouTube videos. Pin optimized images to group boards, share your content strategically, and watch your view count climb.
Did you know there's probably a social media platform you're totally forgetting about when it comes to growing your YouTube channel? Stick around, because I'm going to show you how you can use Pinterest to skyrocket the growth of your YouTube channel. Hey, guys, my name is Trena. If you are new here and welcome back to another episode of Just the Tips in today's video, I'm going to show you exactly how you can use Pinterest to make it a huge traffic source for your YouTube channel. And why can I talk on this?
Because.
Because Pinterest is currently my number one traffic source for my channel. So the first thing you want to do to start using Pinterest to grow your YouTube channel is start sharing your video on Pinterest. You can do that really easily by clicking that Pinterest button down below this video and share it on Pinterest. What you need to do is when you share it on Pinterest, it's going to automatically populate the title of your video. And then you want to write a little description using keywords and phrases that your audience will be searching on Pinterest for. This is going to allow you to get into in front of a bigger audience than you normally would if you just pin that video directly to Pinterest. The second thing you need to know about growing your audience on Pinterest is you need to join group boards. So you're not just pinning to your boards, you're pinning to group boards. When I take you over to my computer, I'm going to show you what.
Group boards look like.
But this is how you're really going to get your video in front of so many more people and not just the audience on YouTube and Google.
The.
The third tip for growing your YouTube channel on Pinterest is creating a Pinterest specific image for your video. So I'm going to show you how to do that also on my computer here coming up. But the reason why I create this is because I will add this image to my blog post. I embed all of my videos to a blog, and that way I can share that image to Pinterest. Why am I sharing that image to Pinterest and not the thumbnail? Because the thumbnail isn't a Pinterest optimized image. Pinterest loves images that are long. There's a specific format for graphics on Pinterest that just generally do better. And that's why I create a specific image for every single one of my videos. Now, what's great about this is. I have a template already made in Canva, so I'm not constantly recreating the wheel. I already have the template. I just change out some colors, maybe the background, and change the title of the pin. So why don't I show you how I'm using Pinterest to really increase and boost my traffic to my YouTube channel.
So after I publish or make live my video, I will share on all social media accounts, including Pinterest.
So I'll go to the Pinterest button.
Right here and I'll start filling in a description. And in that description, I want to include as many keywords as possible to tell Pinterest or what this video is all about. So for this particular video, I'm talking about tips and tricks on how to stay healthy as an entrepreneur. So I might write a description like, do you struggle with getting or staying healthy as an entrepreneur? I might throw a couple more keywords in there so that Pinterest can recognize what this is actually about. So they'll rank it higher and then you can share it on any of the boards that you have. They'll all be listed right here. And then all you have to do is click Save and it saves it to that board. So next thing I do is I will make a Pinterest pretty image for my video. And this is basically what an image on Pinterest looks like. And the ones that do well and here in Canva, which is where I make them, they basically already have a Pinterest template for you. So if you go into file, you can pick. If you change dimensions, you can easily pick a Pinterest graphic. It already has the dimensions for you. This is the template that I use for every single YouTube video. When I have a new video, I will just go ahead and copy this. I'll move this picture, maybe add another one of my pictures that I already have. Say I want to throw this one in the background, make it more transparent so the words pop. I'll just change the text and probably change this background as well. Because every other posts that I do, I have a black box or a gold box that really highlights my text. So from there you can embed it into your website so that people can come to your website and instantly pin it to Pinterest. And your video is right down here. Or you can go to Pinterest, go up here to this plus button, upload an image, then you can select the destination URL. And the reason why my graphic has a play button, I'll show you right here. Because that's signifying it's going to my YouTube channel. So if I want one specifically for my blog that sends people to my website, I might take the play button off so I can distinguish the two. So since this one is to my YouTube channel, I will take the link, add it to the destination URL, click, continue, and then you're going to want to fill it out right here using those keywords and phrases. You could probably use the same thing that you use in the YouTube description box and then save it to any of your boards that you want. And you instantly have a pin out there in the Pinterest world directing people to your YouTube channel.
So let me explain to you.
Group boards. So group boards are basically collaboration boards where you ask if you can contribute to them.
And it's a big community of people.
Sharing different types of pins to one board. So not only are you sharing your pin, but you're getting your pin visibility to more people, because more people will probably follow these group boards than follow you. And so some of the group boards that I have that you can see are these boards down here at the bottom. So blogging boost, Official board, Blogging the best of freelance resources. These are all group boards. So if you go into one of these, it's not your board. It's shared by all of these people. They have over 24,000 followers. So by you pinning a pin to this board board, you get in front of those 24,000 followers. Now, each group has different rules and regulations and different ways to join them. To find out how to join them, you'll just read this section right here. They'll generally tell you how you can join them and their rules. That's ultimately how you can really skyrocket your growth of your YouTube channel here on Pinterest. A lot of YouTubers aren't really using this strategy, so it makes you stay and out and it gets you a leg up.
