How To Set Up A Youtube Channel For Your Business

Trina Little walks through launching a YouTube channel for business: start with your phone or a basic camera, use good audio like a Rode lavalier, and natural light. Script tight with a 5-second hook and CTA embedded in the content. Batch your filming, then spend the first 48 hours pushing each video hard across email and social to signal value to YouTube's algorithm.
This video I'm going to be walking through. How to start a YouTube channel for your business. I know a lot of people have been talking about video content getting on YouTube, how to get on YouTube, how to figure out what to blog about versus how to. Sorry about that. How to blog about versus what to write it do a video about. So we're going to talk about all of that in today's live training. If you're watching the replay, no worries. You can skip right on over to the meat of this workshop by checking out the timestamp down below. So, so just want to get an idea of who all is here, let me know in the comment section. Do know that you can leave me a comment section like right over to the right of the video and down there is a live chat box there. So with that being said, my name is Trina Little, if you are new here and I'm a YouTube strategist. So I help online entrepreneurs, specifically female entrepreneurs, create a video strategy for YouTube because it's a little bit different than Facebook or Vimeo or different types of platforms like that. And so I help entrepreneurs come up with the best strategy for here on YouTube. So whether that be a title, content, ideas, tags, learning how to optimize it, that's what I do. So in today's video we're just going to go ahead and kick this right off and talk about equipment. So if you get hung up on equipment or you have friends that get hung up on equipment, get give this video a thumbs up because you understand the pain and send this to them. You know there's a social share buttons down below. Send it out on Twitter or on Facebook and let your friends know I'm about to give you the lowdown on equipment. And here it is. Start with what you have. So start with equipment you already have. If you're here live or in the replay, let me know in the comments section. What kind of equipment do you have right now to get started with video? Do you have a cell phone? Do you have a DSLR camera? I'll actually show you the camera that I use for all of my videos. I think it's in here. No, it's not in here, it's out in the kitchen. It's a Canon G7X. I can use that to vlog. I can use that to do my every single videos here on my channel. And so use what you have with a phone though it's really important to understand that you need to use the front facing camera as opposed to the selfie camera. The selfie camera just isn't as good of quality than the rear facing camera. So you want to use that rear facing camera, prop it up on a window seal. I'm looking up here because that's where my window seal is. I have a window right there. And record. That's the best place to get started. If you're looking for a mic for your smartphone, I would suggest a Rode Lavalier microphone. I will link it down in the description box below so you can check it out. It's under $80, $80 or $60 and it's a great microphone. You can clip it onto your, your shirt like down here, so people can't see it. And it still picks up really, really good audio. As far as what I use with my Canon G7X, I use my external mic, which is this guy right here. It is my blue Yeti. And so I will get a video file and, and a separate audio file so that I sync them together in the editing process. And trust me, I know that sounds techy, but it's not. It's really easy. You'll just follow the sound waves. What I do in every single video is clap. And so I see that spike in the sound wave and then I can match them up and so that's what I use. And then as far as light, natural light is the best light. That's exactly what you're getting right here on me is natural light from the window that is in front of my computer. I do have some daylight balanced light bulbs up here in a ceiling fan. And what those light bulbs are is they emit a more blue or a neutral light. Generally light bulbs in your lamps or anywhere else emit a yellow light. And so that's why maybe your videos look a little yellowish or you're not really getting that bright look that you want to get. You just want to invest in some daylight balance light bulbs. You can get them on Amazon, I believe I have them linked below. As to linked below as well. I got a pack of four for like 26, $27. And you can place them in any lamp that you have. So it's going to be great whether you're filming videos, whether you're doing lives like this, because you can pop them in a lamp, stick them as close to you as possible and have that professional lighting. If you have equipment questions, go ahead and leave them in the comment section. There's a live chat. I'm more than willing to go further into detail with equipment, but I want you to realize you can get started with what you already have. I don't want you to get hung up on equipment because as you do it more, you're going to start to realize what works for you, what you really want. Do you really want a DSLR camera? That can be a lot of work. It was a lot of work for me, so that's why I stuck with the point and shoot camera. And so just start doing the content now. Start focusing on providing valuable content that people want to work. Then start improving your equipment when you get the chance to. It's not something you need to have to get started here on YouTube or to even start a YouTube channel for your business. So don't forget, send me your questions right down below. I got all my notes written right down here to make sure I don't miss anything. So the next thing I want to talk about is a script. What's important to understand is YouTube content is for formatted differently than format on Facebook or any other type of platform. The type of content that goes over well on YouTube has a very succinct step, you know. So the first thing in your script that you want to make sure you do is hook them. You have basically five seconds to grab people's attention before they decide to click off your video. And so you need to do something to grab their attention. So you don't want to have like a graphic intro or music with your face or some flying logo. You don't want to have that because people are going to click on it and they're going to think, what the heck is this? This isn't what I clicked on. So you need to have some kind of hook. Let people know what it is they're about to watch, let them know what they're going to learn in the video. Make sure it's you that they're seeing right off the bat. You know, that's how they're going to connect to you. That's how they're going to stay watching. And you can check this. If you have some videos up already and you want to see how well you, you're keeping your audience retention, you can check this in your YouTube Analytics. So if you go to your analytics and you go to audience retention for any single one of your videos, you can see if there's a huge drop in your retention or not. What you ultimately want to see in that graph is to have like a slow curvature because some people are going to click off. Not everybody is going to watch your video the whole way through. But you want to really strive for a 50 60, 70% audience retention. If you see a huge drop in the first five to 10 seconds, then you're doing something that you should fix. Maybe you're not grabbing their attention, maybe you're doing that graphic intro. So really focus on that first five seconds. That's what's really important specifically for YouTube. Then after you're hooked, to get them to watch, let them know who you are in my video. I say, hey guys, welcome back. My name is Trina, if you're new here. And this is another episode of Just the Tips. And so I let people know quickly who I am, what they're watching. And then more recently I've been really pushing engagement. So I go from my intro to a question. So I'm going to ask people right off the bat, what questions do you have about xyz? So I have a Trello video coming up. So I have what questions do you have about being more productive in your business? Let me know down in the comment section. This promotes engagement. This gets people talking in your comments section. This signals to YouTube that this video is valuable because people are engaging on it. And so I've been really pushing that comment that requests a comment right after my intro to get people talking and then get to your content as quick as possible. You don't want to be any longer than 30 or 40 seconds into your video before you're jumping into the meat of your content. People want their content, right? We have very short attention spans. We're like squirrels, am I right? We get distracted. So get to that content as fast as possible as you're wrapping up that content. Then you want to put in your call to action for say your opt in to get people on your email list. But what you don't want to do is signal to people that your video is over. Because as soon as you say that's what I have for you today, or that's my last tip, they're going to click off your video, right? So you want to incorporate that call to action to get your opt in within the content so people aren't clicking off. So for me, if I do like three tips in a video, I'll say tip number three. And as I'm talking through it, I'll say, and you can also get your content up here on YouTube by grabbing my script template or my channel checklist. That's how I keep people watching to hear about that call to action. And then I'll put it in the cards. I'll put it in the description box. Speaking of description box, I have A link down there. If you sign up at that link, I'm going to be sending you a checklist on all the things you should do to promote your YouTube video to get more views. So if you want to grab that checklist, I know it's probably the sign up for this workshop right now, but if you just put your email in there, I'll be sure to send you my checklist for YouTube promotion. And as we get to that section here, in a little bit you're going to understand why that checklist is going to be so important. So script, you have those five points, right? Your hook, your intro, your content, your call to action to your opt in and then an outro. So your outro would be something, you know, that you do in every single video. I say thanks for watching and I'll see you in the next video. Or maybe you have some kind of sign off type line. It's just the way you brand yourself and something you do in every single video to get your audience used to. So that's the importance about scripting. I know if you're doing a Facebook Live, your script is a little bit looser and you're more conversational and you talk more, but on YouTube, you need to be very step by step to keep that audience retention, because that's how YouTube is going to promote your video is if you're keeping the attention of the viewer. So with that, we've gone over the script again. You got questions, put them in the comment section. I'm ready to answer anything you got about creating a YouTube channel here for your business. So the next one is all about workflow. How are you going to find the time to do YouTube videos? And how are you going to distinguish between a YouTube video and a blog post? Right, you don't want to repeat the content. So how do you determine which is what? Which one you should focus on, what you should say? So what I do to kick off any type of content idea that I have is I validate it and I validate it by going to YouTube and searching in the search bar to see if people are actually searching that phrase. So you just go into YouTube search and you start typing in a phrase. You're going to see whether or not YouTube pre populates it. If they do, that means people are searching that phrase. And so I just go into YouTube, start searching some ideas to make sure people are actually searching that phrase. And you don't want some obscure phrase like 10 super awesome tips for Creating the Best awesome Blog Posts. We see a lot of the blog headlines that have adjectives and ways to catch our attention. The same way with Facebook lives, but with YouTube. It needs to be very keyword friendly and very search friendly. By using the search bar and seeing what people are searching, that's really going to help you come up with your video idea. Once I come up with my video idea, then I start writing my content. When I write my content, I'm basically writing a script. I have chose to focus just on video content and what I put in my blog is just a summary. So I put a summary in my video on my blog post using keywords so that Google recognizes my content, so that they potentially rank my blog post as well as my YouTube video. But what you can do is basically take the same content that you talked about in your YouTube video and put it on your blog. Use the transcription of the blog post. And I know you might get concerned. Well, I'm repeating content. Like why would people want to read the blog Post and the YouTube video? Well, here's the thing. People like to learn in different formats. Some people might want to read, some people might want to watch the YouTube video. So it doesn't matter if you're repeating yourself. Your video allows people to see you and get to know you and start to break through that know like and trust factor. And it also allows you to have that piece of content to rank on YouTube to access a new audience. And then by embedding it into your website, it allows people to find your who find your website to get to know you on video and say they don't want to watch the video and they would rather read than they can read your blog post. So if you're really concerned about the problem of repeating your content, then it's not as a big issue as you think, because people like to learn and consume in different formats. So when it comes to deciding what should be what, there you go. You can actually just transcribe the video and put it on your blog. And then when it comes to what are you going to do your Facebook live about, what I generally do is I'll go a step deeper into my content. So after this live, I'm going to go over into my Facebook group real quick and do a quick little after the workshop chat and I'm going to go a little bit deeper. And so the reason why I'm doing that is so I can give additional content to get people excited but not repeat my YouTube video. So in that content I can also tell people, hey, if you wanted the beginning steps, make sure you go check out my YouTube video that I did. And then you're also talking about new content on your Facebook, but it still relates to the blog Post and the YouTube video. So think about a different way that you can incorporate the same content into a Facebook Live. So that's basically how my workflow looks when it comes to distinguishing between blog content, YouTube content, Facebook content, Instagram content, all the content craziness, right? How many of you are doing all of this? You know, YouTube, Facebook, blogging, Instagram. I'd love to hear if you're doing all the things. Let me know in the comments below. So that's basically my workflow. So I'm researching the title, right? So then I'm bulk scripting. So I'm researching a bunch of videos at once. Then I start scripting my videos one after another. So, so that they're all done. And then I will save a day and I will bulk film, right? I will film all the videos that I can. I've done up to 12 videos in one day recently. I have a little baby at home and so we're not sleeping as well. So I've only been able to do like four or six videos at a time when I'm bulk filming. But bulk film, right? Film multiple videos at one time, really, it's game changer. And it's how you're really going to stay consistent on YouTube and make it fit into your schedule. So then that's how I am able to create so much video content. And then once all the video filming is done, editing is really easy. You can just sit in your pajamas. And what I mean, easy means you don't have to get camera ready, right? You just sit, edit and sit in your pajamas, drink some wine, have some food, whatever. You just don't have to worry about being on. So, yeah, that's my basic workflow and how I'm able to stay consistent. It's all about bulking that content. So now once your video is up, the next thing we're going to talk about is promo. And why is it so important for promotion here on YouTube? Because YouTube will ultimately rank your videos based on how much views you get in that first 48 hours. So you have 48 hours to prove to YouTube that your content is good. So you need to get as many people as possible to watch that video in the first 48 hours. So if you are doing a blog and you are doing a video, I would promote your YouTube link the first 48 hours. After that 48 hours, then you can promote that blog link anywhere, your Instagram, your Facebook, put it on Pinterest. But in the first 48 hours, I would really focus on YouTube specifically so you can get those views. So what I suggest doing is email your email list, tell them you got a brand new video up, right? If you look down below this video, you will see all the social share buttons. So if you click that little arrow button that says share, you'll see there's a Twitter button, there's a Pinterest button, there's a dig button, all of those buttons. You want to share your video directly from that link because that's signaling to YouTube that your video has been shared on another platform. And you want to share from that button instead of copying and pasting, because that's just what YouTube likes. YouTube likes you sharing from that specific button. So you want to share on all of those platforms. If you don't have a Digg account or a stumbled upon or LinkedIn create one, you don't have to keep up with it, you don't have to post new stuff constantly, but you can share your YouTube video every time you post one. And that is so important when it comes to getting your videos ranked. Having those social links backlinks, having people watching your video, getting your video out there, share it to Facebook. What I do is I will share it to Facebook directly from that link below and then I will post a native promo clip to Facebook. So it's like a 30 second Facebook clip. And then in the description I'll say for more information and to watch this full video, make sure you go to my YouTube channel. So Facebook does promote it a little bit because it is a native video and it's not a YouTube link. But it's telling people to go over to YouTube to watch. So it's getting people over to that video to watch. Also share it on Instagram, create that promo list, share it on your Instagram, do an Instagram story, talk about, you know, the backstory of your video and why they should go watch it. Always like your own video. Always comment on your own video. Nobody wants to be the first person to like and comment, so do it on your own. Give yourself a thumbs up. It doesn't matter, does not look bad. Post a comment. I always post a comment, but in the comment I ask a question to get more engagement, to get more people talking. So those are all the things that you need to do to promote your video, to really push people to watch it and to show YouTube all the engagement on your video. So if you want My checklist for everything you need to do to promote your video. Make sure you if you didn't sign up for this workshop, there is a link down below. If you did sign up for this workshop, I'll be sending it to you here shortly. The promo checklist. But if you aren't signed up and you're just catching me by watching me live or finding me here on YouTube, make sure you sign up down below because I will send that to you. So you have that to print and use. And then about. Oh, another thing, Facebook groups. So when Facebook groups are saying that you can share your link or share your blog Post, share your YouTube video, because that's in the. That's an additional backlink to Facebook, that's an additional backlink to YouTube. Showing them, hey, this link has been shared here as well. So use those social share days or those promote your blog days to share your Facebook video, your YouTube video as well. Now if this seems so super overwhelming and confusing and you're not sure where to get started, I currently am offering strategy sessions. And in those strategy sessions we can definitely define your strategy, come up with the video ideas that you need to focus on, answer any of the questions you have about YouTube. So if you're getting stuck somewhere, you know, let me show you exactly how to do it. Let me walk you through how to add tags, how to find tags, how to find a title, how to create a thumbnail. Because that's so important, a lot of people don't realize they can spend hours researching and optimizing their videos, but thumbnails are so much more important. So just think about this. If you could have a clear idea of exactly what videos you need to film, exactly what the title is going to be, and all you have to do is film it, how easy would that be for you to have a YouTube channel? So if that is something you are interested in, please email me. I'll put my email link down below. I only have a few more strategy sessions left for September.
