If you're thinking about starting a YouTube channel for your business, stay tuned because I'm going to share with you five tips that I wish I knew before Getting started on YouTube. Hi, my name is Trena, and welcome to my channel, Tips with Trena. Here on this channel, I help creative business owners like you use YouTube to grow your business. And like I said, today, I'm going to give you five tips. I wish I knew when I was getting started on YouTube, because if I know you, you're probably testing the waters here on YouTube and thinking about getting your business on YouTube, but you want to make sure you do it right. So let me share the five things I wish I knew before I got started. First, you need to decide what's the goal of your YouTube channel. So it cannot do 20 different things for you. If you give people too many options in your video, they're not going to do anything. So if you tell them to subscribe, tell them to, like, tell them to get on your email list, tell them to visit you on Facebook. That's just too many things for people. So you really need to decide what's the goal of your channel? Is it to get more views? Is it to get people on your email list? Is it to get them to subscribe? What's going to be that ultimate goal for your channel? Because that's going to end up being your call to action at the end of every single video. So for me, I want to build my channel, so I ask people to either subscribe or watch another video. Because the more authority I can build here on YouTube, the larger I can grow my audience here on YouTube. I'm focusing solely on this platform and not focusing on pushing people to my email list. For right now. The second tip I wish I knew was be yourself. If you're trying too hard to be someone else or look like Marie Forleo or look like Amy Porterfield or have this, like, perfect image, it's going to show in your confidence on your videos. So be different. Be you. I actually shared this quote on Courage and Clarity podcast. Let your freak flag show. People are going to connect with what your personality is really like, and they're going to be able to see that through the camera. So if you're trying to be fake or you're trying to be someone you're not, people just aren't going to connect with you. And I know when I got started, I tried to be really professional and read my scripts to the T, and I didn't really gain much traction here on YouTube. Until I finally decided to just be me. Talk with my hands, talk loud, let myself stumble over words and start rambling on a topic. That's when I started connecting with people. That's when I started to find my tribe. That's when I started to grow an audience here on YouTube. So that second tip for you is be yourself. No matter how different you are, the third tip is to know who you're talking to, you've got to have a niche. Unfortunately, here on YouTube you can't talk to everybody or else you end up talking to nobody. Even though it may be a small niche, those people are going to be the ones that follow you. Find your channel and think, this person is for me. And they're going to be ready to buy from you as soon as you give them something to buy from you. So if you're worried about niching down too much, it's okay. Find your people first. I really stick to just teaching YouTube. When I got started here on my channel, it was all about video, all about YouTube. And within three to four months I was already getting tagged in Facebook groups as the YouTube girl or the girl to go to about YouTube. So get in a niche, stick with your niche, know who you're talking to and focus on that first. Then you can start branching out. The fourth tip that I have for you is to just start. Don't overthink things. Don't think you need to have the perfect equipment. Don't think you need to have the perfect background. Don't think you need to have the perfect content. You're not going to get better on video if you don't start. Honestly, done is better than perfect. And somebody watching your video isn't going to know you wanted to have that plant in the background or you wanted to have that professional camera. They're coming to your video for something. Knowledge tips, a tutorial. So just get started and as you do it, more you get better. You're going to reach that more perfection level once you start doing it. But you're never going to get there if you don't just start. Tip number five is you've got to strategize your YouTube content and think about it in series. You've got to search on YouTube and see what are people searching for. Just putting a video up that you think people want to see is basically like throwing spaghetti on a wall. It might stick, odds are it's probably not going to stick. So you need to do your research. Look in Google keyword finder, look in YouTube search, find what topics people people are actually searching for and what's actually growing to develop your YouTube content strategy around now, if you want to grab my blueprint for getting started here on YouTube, I am hosting a free training next week all about getting started on YouTube and understanding how to develop that strategy for your channel. I'm going to show you how you can be different on what seems to be an oversaturated platform here on YouTube, what's a good niche for you to focus on and maybe what's too niching for you and more importantly, what you need to be looking for when you're crafting your strategy and how to script those videos so you can make sure you can convert your viewers into email subscribers, Facebook followers, or into your tribe.
