How to Stop Caring What Other People Think

Trina, a YouTube strategist, shares how to overcome fear of judgment when starting a creative business. She draws on personal experience to show why caring what others think holds you back from building on YouTube.
Let's address the number one thing that's holding you back from reaching your potential or reaching those big, giant goals that you set for yourself. You know what that is? It's caring too much what other people think. In this video, I'm going to show you how you can finally stop caring what other people think and the things that I did to get over that same struggle. Hi, I'm Trina, and I'm a YouTube strategist who created this channel to help creative entrepreneurs like you get on YouTube to grow. Now, if you haven't done so, if you're brand new here, that's okay. We all have those scary goals that we set, and we all have those things in the back of our mind that we want to do right. But we also are worried what other people are going to think. Whether it's those Facebook friends that you have, or it's your family or it's your co workers you're really worried about getting on video, because what if they see you? Or you're really worried about finally starting the business that you dreamed about, because what is your family going to say? I totally get that. I probably spent more time at my last job than I needed to because I wondered, what are people going to think about me? I have this perfect job, great benefits, great vacation, sick leave, everything. And I want to leave that to start my own business. Am I crazy? That constantly ran through my head. That's what kept me at my job for so long. I was there eight years, and what finally did it for me was I knew if I didn't do it, I would be there for forever. I'd be unhappy, I'd be a sad individual going to a job that I hated all the time. So I had to put the energy that I was putting into thinking about what other people were gonna think about me and just do what was right for me, what was right for my family. Otherwise, I was gonna lead a life that was boring and depressing, really. I also spent a lot of my 20s because during that time I was at that job constantly spending so much time worrying about other people were thinking about me. But here's the thing. If they're thinking bad about you, then they aren't people to spend your energy on. Now, I do want to tie this back into social media and your business and YouTube, but I just kind of wanted to give my backstory On I absolutely get. We're caring what other people think about you, especially if you're starting a business right. You want your clients and your potential viewers and your potential students to think you are a great person and you want them to like you because you think that's how you're going to make money. And you. But not everybody has to like you. I'm not everybody's cup of tea. I've had people write mean things on my comments. I just am not for everybody. Just as say, you know, other people aren't for every single person. Like what? Every business coach isn't going to be a fit for me. They teach differently, they have different styles. But I've got to find the person that's right for me. So when students and clients come to me, they get really worried about posting a YouTube video because they're what are people going to say? And it's okay, don't let those people that have nothing better to do but to troll the Internet and to write mean things on people that they don't even know because they probably have a sad life and they just wish that they had the confidence that you have to put yourself on video. So what can you do to finally get over this struggle? Start creating content that's valuable. Start small. How can you help small somebody on the other end of this camera? What is something you could teach them that's really going to help them? And yes, you may not be an expert like say, Marie Forleo or Amy Porterfield. You may not think that you're up there, but you know what? There's somebody who's way beginner than you that you can help and you understand them better. Because instead of you being way up here and unattached to the beginner, you, you're kind of in the middle so you understand where they're coming from because you were there in a shorter distance, right? You get the struggles. And that's where I'm at. I'm not a Sean Cannell or a Darrell Eaves. I'm just getting started in the middle area so I can help you that are just getting started on YouTube because I've been there and I'm testing these strategies for myself. So how does that fit into your content strategy? The biggest thing to really stop caring about what other people think is to worry about the people that matter. Your friends, your family. But also what really matters is you. Are you happy? Are you doing what you love? It really doesn't matter what other people think. If you aren't happy and I really learned this by just taking the leap and leaving that job, even though it was the perfect job, but doing something that I love. And it wasn't easy and it was no cakewalk. And I'm sure a lot of people thought I was nuts and a lot of people probably talked about it. But you know what? You just got to take a step back and realize I'm happy. And as long as you're happy, that's all that matters. So I want to hear from you.
