YouTube tags, are they worth the time and headache they give you? And do they actually make you show up in search results? Welcome back and hi, if you are new here, my name is Trena and on this channel I'm committed to help you do YouTube better. YouTube tags are always a hot topic here on YouTube and which tags are the perfect tags? Which tags should you use, and how many tags should you use are all questions I get on the date. So what are my stance on tags and what should you do to really optimize your videos? When it comes to tags, I got you covered. So one of the first things I want to share with you before we jump into how to pick the right tags is that it's actually more important for you to show up in suggested videos than, let's say, the search. While yes, the search is a great place to show up, your video is usually viewed half the amount of time when somebody finds you on search than if they find you in suggested videos. That's why it's really important to have a clear discoverability strategy on your channel and to really make sure you're creating content that's going to help you pop up in suggested videos. With that being said, though, I know you want to show up in search results, so let's talk about the tags you should be adding. The first thing that you want to do is you want to pick one keyword variation. You don't want to try to cram in all these different keywords because odds are that's not necessarily what you're talking about in the video and you're going to have more competition if you try to rank for multiple types of keywords. This is why it's so important to do your research to see where you could actually rank where you have the opportunity before you start creating your content. I actually start my entire content planning. I did a video last week. I'll link below by doing tag research after I brain dump my ideas. I prefer to use tape just because it's a really quick tool and it makes my life a lot easier to figure out what tags are going to be good for me to use and which one should I really specifically focus in on. So if there's multiple things you're talking about in your video, maybe you need to just limit that video to one specific topic. For example, let's say you're a photographer and you want to give photographer tips and favorite equipment. So you're thinking if you put these two keywords into one title and and put them into your tags, you could Potentially rank for both of these keywords. Let's say Photography Tips for Beginners and Best Photography Equipment for Beginners. All right, these are your two keywords. Cramming them together isn't going to increase your reach. What I suggest doing is create a video on Tips for Photographer Beginners and create a video for equipment. Don't try to cram a lot of content into one video just to make that video longer. Okay, so let's say we're doing Photography equipment. I would like to type that into tubebuddy and see what kind of strength it's going to give to me. I like to test out my title a little bit in here and see what it's going to give me. And then once I have that title determined, the tags are going to be based around that title. So moving into the second step, now after you pick that one keyword variation, we're going to create the tags with different keyword variations. Let's say it's Photography Tips for Beginners. So another tag would be Photography Beginners. Photography Beginner Tips how to Start Photography for Beginners. You see how you're using short one word tags and you're using phrases and questions, right? I don't want you throwing in random phrases here as your tags and definitely do not throw in other people's channels as tags. This is a big no no. So don't be putting other people's channels in in your tags unless they are collaborating with you or you reference about them in your video. Just throwing somebody else's channel in your tag is not going to help you show up in their suggested videos. Now I don't want you to waste a lot of time with these tags. Again, I want you to just pick that one keyword, add that in your title. So like Photography Tips for Beginners. So now Your title is 7 Easy Photography Tips for for Beginners. All right, now your tags are Photography Tips for Beginners. Photography for Beginners. Getting Started with Photography Photography Beginners. How to you see how all of these really describe what your video is going to be about. It's really a no brainer on what tags you should be using. Tags don't need to be this stressor. They don't need to be like this perfect thing that's going to make or break your channel. Just want to use tags to really break down what that video is about. Then this is what you want to do. After you have all your tags, you then want to create a summary. Like write up a summary about your video in that description box using as many tags as possible. Now you're not just throwing all these tags in the description box, you're writing a summary about your video. Incorporating your tags in it shouldn't be too difficult since I told you that all your tags should relate back to what your video is about. Now what I like to do is the summary that I write is in my description box. I then use as a blog post on my website which having all those keywords help that blog post rank on Google as well. Now that I did the tags right on my YouTube video, my YouTube video can rank on Google Search and also my blog post on my website. That's two potential hits on Google for just one video. All because I use this process for picking the right tags. If you want to make sure you're doing YouTube right, make sure you click that video on your screen right now. And and don't forget to subscribe to my channel for new videos every Monday and Wednesday, helping you do YouTube better. Thank you so much for watching and I'll see you in that next video. Bye.
