How to use video in your launch strategy

Megan Maydell and Trena Little discuss using video, especially YouTube, to boost product launches. They cover practical tips on video creation, content planning, and building trust with your audience to increase sales.
Yay. I think we're live.
Hey, guys, it's Megan and Trina. And we're here to do our webinar that we try to do on Webinar Ninja twice.
Not once, but twice.
Twice. Yes, very true. So we are live here. I'm just going to try and pull it up so that I can see what we got going on. So I can also see the chat box as well. So, Megan, if you want to go ahead and introduce yourself.
Yeah. So my name is. For those of you who don't know who I am, my name is Megan Maydell. I am a sales funnel and marketing strategist for fearless, badass women who are looking to finally get consistent with their client and their cash flow. And the best way to do that really is by getting your marketing and your sales funnels on point. So I help people strategize that entire process and get it into place so that they can start seeing a consistent income coming in and consistent client flow so that they're no longer having to do that fun feast and famine cycle anymore. Because that kind of sucks when it's, oh, I had a really great month and then I spent two months making nothing.
Right? Yes. I totally get that.
That's the worst.
I think a lot of people can relate to that as well.
Yes. Yes, I know. I spent a year testing out different processes and figuring out different things and playing around with different funnels and launch processes and figuring out what works. Because at a certain point, you just get tired of dealing with it. You just don't want. You're tired of not being able to go to your husband and say, okay, I can pay you $3,000 this month or 5,000 or 6,000 this month. And then the next month be like, yeah, I'm not going to pay you this month.
Right.
I need an extension. That's not a fun conversation to have for anyone.
No. Also, you guys, there is a live chat. If you just look to like the right. Of the video I posted in there. Let me know you guys are here. We want to know who's watching, where you're watching from and let us know what you do. Are you a graphic designer? Do you specialize in social media? Just go ahead and type in those comments and let us know who found us after the whole mix up from before. So let us know that you are here so he can talk to you guys one on one here.
Not that that wasn't fun or anything, but. Right.
So I'm going to go ahead and let. Okay, Emily is here from Emily Grace Design. Hi, Emily.
Hello.
I'm going to go ahead, Megan, and let you kick it off to start with.
All right, let's do this, guys. So what we really wanted to talk to you all about is how to use YouTube to totally soleil your next launch, finally make some sales, be able to pay your bills. That's all fun, right? And we wanted to do it because this is really your opportunity to start leveraging video inside of your lunch and get in kind of on that ground level. Because I know, especially if you're in the creative entrepreneur space, you most likely are, that you're seeing lots of people talking about YouTube lately. You're seeing lots of people start to use video more lately, especially with Facebook Live blowing up and all that fun stuff, but people, I don't, I don't know if it's just not understanding how to use it or having some adverse reaction to using video in launches. A lot of people aren't using it yet. Which leaves you open to the opportunity to be able to learn what you can on this webinar, be able to take it, implement it immediately into your next launch, and still have that opportunity to surprising delight your clients and reel them in with using video and getting their attention and really knocking that know, like, trust factor factor out of the park. It's not something that people are ignoring already because they've seen it eight bajillion times, like your standard regular image Facebook ads and stuff like that. People aren't looking at that anymore. I see them a million times a day inside my Facebook feed. I just gotten to the point where I don't even pay attention anymore. I just know the second thing in my Facebook feed is going to be an ad. I don't even look at it.
Yeah, the ads are just all over the place.
Unless it's like moving and really interesting and really finds a different way to get my attention, I'm not paying attention to it. But then everyone realizes, oh, that got their attention. So everyone starts doing it, and then you stop paying attention to that shortly thereafter. So I want people to be able to. I want the biggest takeaway from this to be able to realize you can use video, figure out how to use it properly in your launch, and really use it to leverage your launch for even better results next time so that you're stop leaving cash on the table, because nobody really likes doing that.
And the best part is YouTube is free. YouTube videos are free.
Which is the best thing ever. Like, I love it when people tell me things are free.
Yeah, you get started with your cell phone and start creating video today.
Which guys, I use my phone. I don't even have an iPhone 7 which everyone keeps telling me need to hurt upgrade. But I'm not going to upgrade down until the 8 comes out. I just use my 6s plus and I put it on a little tripod and it's the jankiest thing because I don't have the piece that slides into the tripod anymore. So it's like this mix of duct tape. I was to get it to stay on the tripod straight, but videos that I record like that inside of my office is if I include them in my launch, if I include them in my pre launch, if I include them really anywhere inside of my business emails or I'm just giving daily tips, they always perform above and beyond, way better than anything else does.
And just so you know, I was right there with you because I was doing a live stream Tuesday and I could not find my tripod accessory clip from my phone because my daughter was running around the house with it a few days ago. So I'm not sure where it's at. So I had it propped up against this thing like please don't fall. Please don't fall.
Yes. Yeah. Mine right now is a collection of boxes, a tripod, duct tape, some string. And I'm like, I have no idea where this piece went. I need to just get on Amazon and buy another one. But it's one of those things that always manages to fall to the bottom of my to do list. So don't feel like you have to have do the ring light or any of these other crazy things you see other people using in order to get started. Just get started. That's really the most important thing. So the most important thing really with using video in your launch and why it's so important, like I mentioned earlier, was that it builds your no like trust factor. So if you don't know what your no like trust factor is, it's the. That's a good word for je ne sais quoi to sound real cultured. That helps you get someone to solidify that buying decision. Before you buy anything in your life, think back to anything that you've ever purchased. Think back to any advertisement that's ever sold you on something, Any service you've ever bought online. You didn't buy it from a complete stranger. You didn't buy it from a brand that you've never heard of, had no interaction with. It's normally from a brand or a person or something along Those lines that you, you've interacted with before, you've engaged with before you've seen things of theirs pop up and you've had time to make that decision on. Oh, I like this branding. Oh, I like the style of that video. Oh, I enjoy the style of that clothing. It's why all marketing sales guru people will tell you that you need to have at least six to seven touches with your ideal client before they're going to buy from you, that they need to have experienced you in some capacity six to seven times before they're going to finally fork over the credit card card number. People are rarely doing it on the very first go around unless they're already being introduced to you in some sort of like video capacity. Because what video does is it instantly boosts that you can know like and trust me from reading an email that I send out to you. But is that really going to drive the point home? It doesn't drive the point home. As well as seeing me talk to you on video, where you can see my facial expressions, you can see that I love to talk with my hands, you can hear the inflection in my voice, you can really get a handle on how, how I use different words and how I really mean the intention behind them. Which text can you get the point across? Yes, but I find that you can really only get the point across really well if you're using lots and lots and lots of GIFs, which I do like to use on my website copy. But it can be taken any other way. All of us have been in text message fights with someone where someone sends us a text and we take it the wrong way or they take our text the wrong way and the next thing you know you're in a full out battle back and forth in text messages because someone took something the way that they didn't mean for it to be taken. And so getting on video is really going to help you be able to instantly solidify that someone can make that decision in 5, 10, 15 minutes or less, which is an impact you are not going to be able to recreate anywhere else unless you are physically in the room with them, which we don't have the capacity to be in the room with a million people all at once on a daily basis. It's just not going to happen. You're not going to get that impact somewhere else. And that's really where video can help solidify that when it comes to your launch. Because to get someone to buy, they have to know like and trust you. So start using Video to get, to get that out there, to start having people be able to say, oh yeah, I've seen her on video before. I saw that video she did. I saw that little marketing tip she did. I saw that JV webinar she did. And oh my God, I fell in love with her. I did a. This is not to like be bragging or anything, but this is to show you the power of video. I did a four minute video for a friend, Kay Putnam the other day as part of a brand challenge she was doing. It was a four minute video. I gave three tips. I talk fast. So it was a lot crammed into four minutes and she sent me back a bunch of the responses that people had commented underneath the video inside of her private Facebook group. And they were all this sounds really braggadocious and I don't mean to come off that way again, but it was all Megan's adorable. I love her. I'm going to check out her website now. Holy crap. Or I can't believe that I was able to get that much value out of four minutes. I'm going to go see what else she has for me on her website. I just joined her Facebook group. I signed up for her email list like I can't wait to get to know her better. And that was one video that lasted four minutes. And I've already been able to make three sales off of that that have totaled over 1500 dollars in sales off of a four minute video. So video is where it's at when it comes to a launch.
I can totally back you up. And it doesn't have to be long because when I started my business I started my YouTube channel. Like I went all in with video and I started my website the same time I started my YouTube channel and I just did one minute tips, like one minute video tips. And within like four or five months people were already tagging me in Facebook groups as the video girl. I had only been doing video and started my business four or five months and I was the video girl and people were coming to me asking me for advice and answer their questions. And I think Jess Creatives is also on here and her videos are under five minutes, sometimes two minutes as well. And she's getting clients off of her videos and she's really seen the power of video with her business as well. And she's creating videos under two minutes. So don't think it needs to be some epic video where it's going to take you all this time to create two minutes. Make it valuable.
That's all you have to do. I'm getting ready to start a new marketing series inside my business daily. Well, during the work week. I'm not doing these on Saturdays or Sundays during the work week. Just simple three to five minute videos done every single day. Here's a quick marketing tip. Go use it just to continue to increase that no like trust factor. Continue to keep getting me tagged as the sales funnel person, the marketing person inside Facebook groups, which are what leads to people emailing me with subject lines that say I need help. I love those emails because those are emails where you can go help those people. And helping those people results into money in your bank, bank account which helps you pay your bills, put food on your table, go on vacation, take your kids places, do all the things that you want to be able to do in life without having to go back to sitting in a cubicle all day every day.
Right? And so we're talking about like putting all of this content on YouTube and I think we need to reiterate that YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world. So if we aren't using that, we're. You're really missing out on such a powerful platform because YouTube and Google are the same company. So if you get videos ranked on YouTube, you also can get your videos ranked on the front page of Google. I was just talking to a client yesterday, we were doing a testimonial and she just started her channel last week. She has two videos ranking on the front page of Google for like I think she said it was beginner canning tutorial. Two videos at the top of Google with her thumbnail. There's no other images on that website on Google front page but her two thumbnails to her video. So that's why we're talking about YouTube and we're here on YouTube talking about the power of YouTube because it is that second largest search engine and it does marry up with Google. I mean, how many times can you be sure you could get yourself on the front page of Google, right?
I mean, I've tried and it's just that it's not working.
She said she even typed in, she said she even typed in her exact blog title and it still didn't come up in Google. So I mean, that's just the power of what even Internet search engines are seeing as video. And since Google owns YouTube, they're going to obviously boost YouTube higher because the.
Same company, they want you to stay there.
Right? And I also found a crazy statistic as well that businesses who are using video grow their revenue 49% faster than any other business. So, I mean, it's something we really need to start thinking about going ahead. That video is here. Video is not going anywhere. We can't ignore it. We've got to accept it. Ladies, if you. You got to put at least makeup on maybe once a month. That's all I'm saying. Trust me, I'm a mom of two. I don't got time to wash my hair every day. So, I mean, you make it work for you. You're planning your strategy. While you're planning your strategy, think of your videos that you can, you know, incorporate into your strategy and then plan them out ahead of time.
I batch my videos now and it's become so much easier. To be honest, I took a shower today, but before that, I'm not entirely sure when the last time I washed my hair was. We just don't have time for it. And I sit at home all day every day working with people online. Why feel the need to get dressed up every single day if I'm not going out of the house? You're lucky if I put pants on. So it's just one of those things where. Batch your videos. I'll do it. I'll pick a Saturday where if my husband plays soccer, he goes out of town a lot, all right, he's gonna be gone. I'll wake up at 11 o' clock and put some makeup on, do my hair once for the month, then hop on videos and knock them out. I mean, if you're only doing five minute videos and you don't and you start to get the hang of it, by the time you get to the end, you can knock out videos like that. There's no need to have all those takes in between. At first it was a little rocky. I'll be honest, it was a little rocky at first. Some of those videos are pretty bad. Some of those videos are interesting. But as you start to do it more and as you start to really get in the flow, even later in the day of your batching day, you'll start to notice things come across so much easier and you just kind of get into that, that zone of creating video.
Yeah, it's possible if you just set the time, because I had a baby in December and I'll tell you, in November, right before we moved out of our house, I filmed 12 videos in one afternoon. Eight months pregnant, like belly out to here. 12 videos. So I'm sure you guys can knock out four videos at once.
You can figure it out. Yeah. So video is here to stay. Especially with the advent of Facebook Live, YouTube Live. Thanks Periscope. That, you know, RIP, I'm pretty sure that platform's dead. I don't know anyone who's on it anymore. Instagram stories, Instagram live streaming that they have now. Video isn't going anywhere. So getting. The quicker you can get comfortable with it, the quicker you can figure out how to make it work for you, your audience, your business, the better. So how do you use it to totally slay your launch moving forward? And the number one way to be able to really slay your launch that I see people underutilizing all the time, just in general, not even using video is breadcrumbing. Breadcrumbing. Your launch is the most important piece of your launch that you could ever like. If you were going to spend any kind of time on a launch, it needs to be in the breadcrumbing phase. So let's talk about that definition first. Think of Hansel and Gretel, the kids in the fairy tale who their parents pawned them off on the witch, but they dropped little pieces of bread along the trail so they could figure out how to get back home. That's breadcrumbing. It's drawing people and leading them exactly where you want them to go. And I recommend, hey, I recommend starting this roughly 90 days out from the point that you're going to open your cart. Some people call this the pre launch. I just call it launching in general. Because the quicker you start looking at it as the entire launch process and the entire piece of it being as important as humanly possible, the better off you're going to be. Because this is the part that people miss out on the lot. 99.9% of the time I see people saying, I have this amazing idea. They spend three days pulling all nighters, building out their amazing idea. On the fourth day, while they're half awake, running purely on coffee and Red Bull and their hair's a mess, they decide to launch this, launch this idea out into the world. They throw it out there, they tell people to buy it, they maybe spam a few Facebook groups with it, send it out to their email list, and then a week later they deem that idea a complete failure because it didn't make them 50k or it didn't make them $100,000. That idea was stupid. Scrap it. I'm doing something different, right? Excuse me while I go pivot 50 more times between now and the end of the month and come up with all these other ideas and that doesn't work because you're not taking the time to breadcrumb, which is solidifying in someone else's mind, your customer's mind, your potential customer's mind, that you are the go to person for that, that you are the person that they need to be buying that from. So, for example, breadcrumbing for 90 days out, let's say, let's use just because it's coming top of mind. I launched launch templates a month ago, and for three months leading up to those launch templates, I was constantly putting out videos, I was constantly putting out blog posts, I was constantly asking questions inside of my Facebook group, I was constantly sending out emails that all talked in some way about launching, not asking them to buy, not asking them to purchase. If I asked for anything at all, it was for their name and their email address to opt in to get some sort of a checklist or get some sort of a, you know, freebie free goodie, opt in some sort or other. And it was all just being dripped out. So eventually, after being beat over the head with this for roughly 60 to 90 days, people start to get the point. They're slow. They're not. You might think that people are getting tired of hearing you talk about this topic and that 90 days is too long, but you, you think that because you're in it, they got better things to be doing with their time. They're not sitting around thinking, oh, I can't wait to see what new piece of content Megan may close out with and I to devour every single second of it and I need to see every single video or God forbid if they even see a blog post twice, but it's spaced far enough apart, they don't remember they've already seen it before until they really start reading it. They're like, oh, this is deja vu. Maybe I have read this, but they don't realize it at first. People aren't paying as much attention to you as you're paying attention to yourself. It's your business, you're in it. You should be getting kind of irritated with yourself, but nobody else is. And so by the time that you get to the point that you say, hey, guys, launch this new course or launch this new template, they're already, they're thinking, well, duh, buy that launch template from you. Because all I've seen you talking about for three months straight is launching. So clearly you know what you're talking about, you know what's up. So, yeah, sure.
And I can totally attest to what Megan's saying, because I had launched a few things last year. And so I obviously, I work on YouTube. That's what I teach. And I didn't communicate clearly and educate people about YouTube. What can YouTube do for you? The power of YouTube. And so pretty much my first launch was a flop because people didn't know how they could use YouTube, why they needed YouTube, and I didn't educate them. So for a secret for all of you that are here now, I'm currently breadcrumbing my content to my people for a future launch. And I start out with educational content like basic line YouTube, how to get started on YouTube, like what you can do, how you can use it. And so I'm doing exactly what Megan's saying. I'm not only creating a video on my YouTube channel, but I'm using that video in my newsletter to talk about. I'm using it in my Facebook group to get questions and answers going in there. I'm just using that content to let people know what they can do with YouTube so that when the time comes for my cart to open, they're gonna be like, oh, yes, I want to use this. I heard all this stuff Trina talked about. So that they're ready to buy as soon as I say, guess what, cart's open. I have this new thing for you guys. I taught you all this stuff. Now here's how you can implement it.
And using video throughout that breadcrumbing period is going to boost your street cred even more than just using basic text is because again, it's about to that no, like, trust factor. We talked at the beginning that it's helping solidify that even more. So if you needed it to. I don't suggest this, but if you needed your breadcrumbing period to be a little bit shorter, I don't recommend going shorter than 30 days, but if you need it to be more 30 to 45 days, then it should all be video. So you can really ramp up your efforts for people to fall in love with you. And the nice thing about video is that, I mean, sometimes I've seen emails, like, yeah, they have really good content in them, or they're really good at telling a story. But I'm sorry, I don't have 20 minutes. Sit here and read your email. No, no. Sometimes I go on for forever and I'm like, I want to read this, but, like, I got other shit to be doing. Hang on. Whereas I could just start a video and play it in the background. I don't even necessarily need to be watching what's going on on the screen. I can play it in the background while I'm getting other things done. And if I hear them say something like, oh, and I'm going to share my screen with you, I can just quickly click back over. I can see the part that I need to see. And I'm still digesting that content, I'm still taking it in, and you're still still solidifying that know, like, trust factor with your audience, which is what we're all looking to do.
But another piece on top of that, on top of the educational content is really simple too, because you don't want to be in front of the camera. How about do a tutorial screen share. Show them a process that maybe they might be struggling with to really, again, build your street cred. Show people you really know what you're talking about because you can walk them through this process that maybe they've been struggling with and then they're going to remember you and think, they really helped me. I bet their course is 100 times better with a lot more valuable content since they gave me this free tutorial. Who knows what's even inside their course or their program if this is what they're giving out for free.
Amen, sister. So, like to give you guys a little bit of an insight of a launch that I have coming up. I'm not calling it a real launch just because it's. I'm doing this one a little bit differently than I consider most traditional launches to go. But it's going to be all video. I have a new website, new visuals coming out. They're all launching on May 8th. And as part of my virtual party that I want people to come celebrate with me as I do this entire thing. I'm going to also be relaunching my Facebook ads course along with my launch templates. And every single day I'm going to use video inside my group to my email list to do screen. They will probably see me at the very beginning of the first video, but otherwise they're only going to hear my voice and see my screen as I share with them. Different like Facebook ad targeting techniques, how to specifically go in and all right, this is how you set up a custom conversion. This is how you do this. This is how you do this. And dripping out that content to them over the course of five days. By the time we get to the end of that, it's, I've helped you guys do all of this. Now think about how much more powerful this can be. When combined with a template and all these other things, oh, how convenient. You can go buy it right here. And. And it really is that easy. But you just have to be making sure that you're constantly putting yourself out there as the person who is the go to for that. And with video, I have yet to find an easier way to make myself the go to person, to be honest.
And I mean, if it's your expertise, you're going to be able to talk about it on video. You're going to look comfortable in it. Yes. The camera guy thing that you're looking at may be a little scary at first, but you know, if you are a professional that you're saying you are, you can talk freely about whatever niche you you are specializing in. So, I mean, just being able to open up and talk on video and even though that camera might get scary, you know your shit, right? You know what you're talking about. So you should be able to blatantly allow people to see who you really are and make you the go to person instantly just by being on video.
And the perk of video is that it's now starting to. All the social media platforms are really. Facebook, let's be honest, are starting to realize that people want to engage more with video. They're engaging less with text, which is why they've now created that weird status hack where it's a colorful graphic instead of just the text that I'm sure you all have seen that they're pushing video more. So even on Facebook business pages, which I see, people complain all the time that they don't understand why they need to have a Facebook business page. And we can get. That's a whole separate webinar. But when you do a Facebook Live or when you upload a video straight to Facebook, it's going to make sure it's pushing that content out. You can even tell Facebook now whenever you upload a video, oh, it relates to these different topics and you can give it different keywords. You can name the title with a bunch of keywords in it. So if someone is searching something on Facebook or it can be suggested based on other pages that they've liked that tie in with those different keywords that you tied into your video, they're going to make sure it sees it and you don't have to worry anymore about like, whereas if you post a picture, if you just post a random status on your Facebook business page, you know, your organic reach at the bottom is like zero. People saw this after five hours. Okay, that was a Waste of time. Whereas video your reach, sometimes people are getting between like 10 and 15% organic. It's not even something where they're having to then pay to boost it or create an ad out of it or do anything like that. Just video has much further reach, which if you can get further reach and you can touch more people and you can pull more people in, is going to result in a bigger, more successful. Whatever your goal was before, this will likely end up being bigger than you could get otherwise.
And then people always say that video takes up so much time. Well, you make that one video, share it on YouTube so you can get the Google rank, share that, upload that exact same video to Facebook natively, get the power over on Facebook, take a clip, put it on Instagram to promote your video, send them wherever you want them to go, Facebook to watch it, or YouTube to watch it. And it's just put that video on your website, boost your SEO on your website for having video. It's just that one little video, even if it's two minutes long, is working for you on how many different platforms? Your website, Instagram, Facebook, on YouTube. All with just one video. So even though you're thinking the editing and the filming and the washing your hair is going to take you time, think about how much it is going to save you time, because that's content across the board for you. And you're also your newsletter. Link it in your newsletter as well.
And let's be honest, using like the washing of your hair is what takes the most time.
Drying it, straighten it.
That's like the worst part out of this entire thing. That part sucks. And what's nice about it is that whenever you're using video, even people on Pinterest love video that they love being able to click through instantly go to a video and the likelihood of them then opting into something on your list because you can offer content upgrades inside all of these videos. That's been something that I've seen some of my clients be wary about with video as well. That's not something that they instantly go sign up for something through. They can continue to remind them in the video that they need to go sign up for it. There are services out there now that will, at the end of your video, link up with whatever your email service is where they can instantly put in their name and email address and they'll get delivered your checklist, your quiz, your whatever it is that you're wanting to link them to. And like using Pinterest then to get more traffic on Your website, it all ties together to be building that list, growing your tribe, growing your sphere of influence, so that whenever you do launch certain things throughout the year, it's a numbers game. You got more people to launch to. And if the average conversion of your email list at any point in time is 1%, the more people you have on your list, the higher that 1 to 5% is.
And you guys, I mean, you can use those services that Megan talked about, but by putting your videos on YouTube as well. YouTube has a cards feature that you can link directly to your opt in. So it just has to be associated with your website. But if it's not associated with your website, you can always have your strong call to action. Your video to go in the description box below and get my free checklist. So if you guys look in my description box right now we have a free channel checklist. So if you're wanting to start a YouTube channel, I have all the steps that you need in that channel checklist. And the link is right below this video in the description box so that as soon as you click on it, download it, you now have an email. Well, we have your email, but you could do the same thing with your opt in. And then you can also do the cards feature. And I do this in every single video. At the end, I let people know and I always get it confused because the cards pop up in one of these corners and I'll just be like the cards popping up here. If you want to get my free checklist or my free worksheet to help you go through this video again to get as much out or whatever your opt in is going to be, YouTube allows you to throw it in a card that pops right up and you can also have it in that description box as well to collect emails. If that's really what is deterring you from video, is that how am I going to use it to grow my list? Well, get your video on YouTube, get it in Google, start collecting those emails in your description box and those cards. And it's really amazing the growth that you can see just by just using video, just using YouTube and video, maybe on Facebook and putting the link in there as well.
Amen. And not to get like too technical or anything, but Trina and I did discover a fun little workaround with the cards last year that if you're worried because you're using something like Leadpages to collect email addresses or a similar service where it's not your URL because leadpages ends up being like Megan Maydell lpages, all this other random stuff that YouTube will shut down in a heartbeat. You can't ask your web guru. Go Google it. It's not hard at all. All you have to do is set up a redirect link on your website. Or if you use WordPress, you can use pretty link and you can tell. You can send it to meganmaydale.com launch and it will redirect straight to that opt in. But you can still get away with using it in your cart in YouTube because it's not tracking if it's a redirect link or not, which is.
And that's exactly what I do. Megan taught me that. And when one video I posted Tuesday, 10 email subscribers in the first day just from that video, by using my cards feature, having my call to action to sign up in the description box or in the cards, redirects them to my lead page. Boom. 10 people in less than a day.
So, Trina, what would be your. Because now I feel like we both kind of been through this around the block with video and launching and all that fun stuff here lately. What would your. Just to kind of close this out strong before we start taking some Q and A video, what would you say would be your number one tip for nurturing your email list? We've used this video. We really nailed it. They know, like and trust us. We've got their email list now to really nurture them so that by the time that we're offering up something that we want them to fork over their credit card number for, they're on it.
I like to make videos, but I make them private. Like private tutorial videos that I will send just to my email list. So I will say, hey, something special for you. Let me show you how I do this on the inside of YouTube. And it's just a unlisted link that only my email list gets as like my thank you for them for subscribing, being on the list, you know, just being there. They get this private tutorial that you wouldn't typically get on you on my YouTube channel or anywhere else. That's how I nurture my list.
That's genius. I never thought of that before. I'm going to do that now. I'm like, oh, why don't I think of that? All right. Okay. I would say that mine is because my bigger goal is pushing people to the Facebook group because I just discovered that's where I kind of get my most interaction. So I will then use it to do Facebook lives. I'll use video to do Facebook lives and lots of different stuff that I'll do inside of my group or on my business page and I'll send those links to my email address and be like, hey, got a new video out. I now started sending out emails with a little bit of different format that's more like, hey, here's the top three things that you should have paid attention to this week. Like if you saw nothing else with my name on it and you care about nothing else, here are three things to pay attention to. Go click on these.
I did something like that as well. But I actually last week I have since I have a launch coming up, I planned out what all my Facebook Live topics are going to be for the next five weeks leading into my launch. And I emailed that schedule to my list saying, hey guys, here's what I have coming up. April 26th, I'm going to be talking about this in my Facebook group. And I broke it down each week what topic I'm covering. The most feedback I've ever gotten from an email ever. People responding. I love that you gave me the schedule. I'm so glad that you sent me this schedule. I love that I know what's coming up. So that's also another option that you could use for your if you're planning that far ahead and you should be.
If you want a successful launch, you should be planning that far ahead. Don't be worried about someone coming in. The other worry I get a lot when I tell people they need to spend more time breadcrumbing. They need to stop having a random idea and then just throwing it out there 72 hours later is, well, someone might take my idea, someone might steal it from me, or someone might get there first. First to market is not always the best product we've seen, evidenced a lot by other people. It's usually the quickest to pivot. It's usually the quickest to figure out what the issues are and make sure and the needs are and making sure that they're fulfilling those needs and they're not running into those same issues. Which is why Facebook Live, which wasn't first to market, quickly overtook Periscope. Periscope had lots of issues, like the fact that you had creepers in your live stream all the damn time. It was a block fest every time I got on live and they had other issues. But being first to market isn't always what's the most important. Making sure that you're really solidifying your place in that person's mind as that go to person for that is much more important. And I'd rather see you take the time to do that and really be able to hammer that home and pull that out strong, then throw it out there, have a half assed lunch and have the other person be able to say, oh, well, I saw these issues that this person had, so I'm gonna leverage on those and I'm gonna provide the solution based on the failures that I know you had. Being first American is not always what's best. Take your time, really hammer it home to your people so that they're frothing at the mouth for whenever you finally put something out. And at that point, like the ones who love you, the ones who are really invested, the ones who want it, your tribe, your people, your evangelists, whatever you want to call them, they will be whipping out their credit card, I promise you.
Yeah. So we convinced you guys that you need a YouTube channel. Just make sure you grab our checklist, the YouTube channel checklist down in the description, description box so that you can ensure your channel is set up properly to continue to grow your tribe. Because as long as it's optimized, right, you're going to get the right people to your channel to opt into whatever it is that you have that you want them to sign up for.
Do we have any questions? I can't see the group chat for some reason and I'm just going to chalk it up to the fact that there are more tech issues than I care to deal with today.
You got to go to the actual Facebook video in Facebook and then there's like a power chat live chat here that I'm looking at.
Oh, God.
Kathy from Love Inspired is saying Facebook Live still doesn't work as well though.
No.
So she's saying that's what Kathy has to say. We've got a lot of people loving this. Daisy Garcia said that she was loving these tips. Katie Fry said she's soaking this all up and she's going to be watching the replay for sure.
Love it. I think. Kathy, Kathy, are you talking about, I guess Periscope. Because Periscope did work better to get people on and paying attention than Facebook Live is. And I think that's a matter of Facebook figuring out the notifications. But to be honest, I'm not sure if that's their number one priority, especially on desktop, which is why it took so long to be able to live stream through your desktop. Because now you can see the note, like you'll get the notifications with the video tab on the mobile app where you'll see it pop up at the bottom and I get, I guess that's the direction they're going in. If I had to guess, since people are consuming content more and more and more on their phones than they are their desktops now. But people love watching the replays. That's where Facebook Live really excels is getting people into the replays and getting them to engage there. And the fact that the comments stay for forever. So you can constantly be bringing people back or comment even like 6 months later and then just because there's a new comment on it, that video is going to show up inside people feeds again.
Yeah, that's exactly what Kathy was saying. She said periscope just work better for that.
Yeah. Did.
Jess Creatives wants to know Facebook Live on your page versus in your group. So.
I would say just because you can retarget with Facebook ads and we're always looking at how much dual purpose we can get out of this. I would say because I'm going to start doing this myself, going live on your business Facebook page and sharing it into your Facebook group and being able to have kind of the dual conversations up. And the reason why I say that is because you can tell people, hey, go like my Facebook page. And we can kind of bring that whole thing back because before there wasn't really much of a reason for people to like your Facebook page but they'll get notifications for that so I'll have to go there to be able to watch it. That is the one place that you are actually going to get notifications that they went live on that page. And then you can reach target those people later as people who are fans of your Facebook page with different like if you have a launch coming up or a blog post you want to make sure they see or if you want to really boost that video. So I recommend it plays for a little bit longer with a long term strategy. If you do it on your business page which more people can see and then share it in your Facebook group. Reserve the stuff that you're going to go live just inside of your Facebook group. If it's more like casual conversations just meant for your community or if you're going to do like you can use it at way to get more people in like hey, I'm going to do a private video of my Facebook group today on these three things. Make sure that you sign up and you can do that video on your business page and say hey guys, I'm going to talk about these three things. This is the big wins that you're going to be able to get out of it. But you can only get in on the goods if you join my Facebook group. And we're going live at this time, so make sure you head over in that direction. It just is going to give you a little bit more of a longer life out of your overall strategy if you do it on your Facebook page and share it into your group.
Genius.
I've been playing with all different kinds of ways of how this all ties.
Together, so just totally throwing a wrench in my plan. I told my email list I was going live in my Facebook group every Tuesday.
But technically you're not lying. Technically it's not a lie. You will be live in the Facebook group and you're sharing it into the group.
Okay, maybe I'll have to explain to them. Go like my Facebook business page.
You can tell them like your Facebook business page or you can always. That is a great way to be able to make sure that the people who are on your list are also inside of your Facebook group. And if you want to make sure that they are inside your Facebook group, you can send them a link to just the post inside of the group. Not the video that's on your business page, but the post where it actually landed inside of your group. And they'll have to be inside of your group to be able to see that if you want.
Got it. Can you just manage my Facebook for me?
Right. I'll bring it back around.
I got somebody, I got NIMBY telling me, I mean Devin from Nimby Creative telling me that she loves my post its.
So yeah, what is the story behind these post its?
That's my launch back there.
Okay. Okay.
My launch slash content for my program. And so my husband's loving the new bedroom decorations.
I was thinking. And what does the husband have to say about that?
He's like, whatever. He bought me that 10 pounds of post its on Black Friday. So gotta use it up.
I mean we might as well use them like this is you putting it to use.
That's right. Okay, we got which is better Facebook group versus Facebook business pages. I know this is a big question a lot of people ask.
So I think you need both, but they serve different purposes. You need a Facebook business page if you're going to run Facebook ads, period. That's why those have to exist. And Facebook ads are becoming more and more and more of a powerful tool to retarget a warm audience. I mean there's so many different things you can do with those now. You can stay inside people's feeds based on a sales page that they visited. Like I just did this for a client of mine that anyone who visited her sales page while the cart was open, we were they were then continuing to see her ads pop up the entire time the cart was open in their feedback and it was talking to them as though we knew they had been on the sales page because we knew they'd been on the sales page. And that's just an opportunity I don't want anyone to be missing out on. And you do have to have a Facebook business page to be able to do that. Now spending a lot of time on a Facebook business page as far as finding random articles to share, constantly pushing out content there, I don't do that. I have yet to see a really good return with that. Unless you are going to do Facebook Live or post videos and stuff like that over there and then share them out that way. So I recommend anytime you do do a video, making sure that you're uploading it to your Facebook business page just because it will get a little bit more reach. What I'll do is at the beginning of my Facebook business page you can have pinned posts. Then I'll do a pin post that says, hey guys, if you want to find more of me because I don't hang out here 24 7, I got better places to spend my time where I feel like I connect with people better. Make sure you go check out these four things and it leads them to an opt in on the website, it leads them to the Facebook group, it leads them to my Instagram stories and it leads them to one other place. Just so if they do happen to stumble on that page and they think they're going to get lots of action there, it's reminding them, yeah, stuff here maybe gets updated once a week. But if you really want to hang out and you really want to stay connected, go find me in these other places. And Facebook groups are amazing for just staying in touch and really cultivating and driving that community aspect home with your tribe. So that's why I recommend having those is if you really want to get to know your tribe and you really want to be diving deep with them and you want to be able to ask those questions at any moment in time. Like my Facebook group, I ask random questions in there all the time. Technically they could be seen as probably like I do a client research or different things for different stuff I have coming out. But it's genuinely I just want to know. And a lot of times it spurs Lots of fun, different conversations for everyone to be able to get to know each other better, which just helps me serve them better. And post funny stuff in there. I post crazy shit in there. My Facebook lives are highly entertaining inside of there that it gives you that platform to be just a little bit more, like, drive the authenticity home.
Yeah. I use my group to share their YouTube videos because having those backlinks as many places as possible is so important. And there's so many groups that you can't promote. You can't, like, post your video whenever it goes live. You have those promo days. And so my Facebook group kind of works as, like, a YouTube pod, like an Instagram pod, only a YouTube pod, where as soon as your video goes live, I tell you the importance it is to get it everywhere. And so I tell them to go ahead and post it it in my group. And we all, as a group together, go, like, subscribe, comment. And then if they ask me for help, like, hey, what could I have done to make this rank a little bit better? I'm giving them that free information in my Facebook group so that when the time comes that I have something for them, they're gonna be like, she already gave me this free stuff in this Facebook group. I can't wait to see what she has paid for.
I mean, the people in my Facebook group are like, my people. Like, I know the people in my Facebook group. There are people. One of the girls in my Facebook group is a travel agent for other countries, and she really focuses on Ireland. And to the point that, like, when I was in Ireland, I was like, hey, what are some places I should make sure I see? And we've been able to have personal relationships in that way. And I see them whenever I go to the city that they live in or if they come to Nashville, they always make sure they hit me. Me up to go out to the honky tonks with them on Broadway. And there you build better, quicker connections with them, which, again, all ties back into that no, like, trust factor. And the quicker you can build that up and the stronger that that is, the more likely someone is. Is to whip out their credit card number and pay you.
Great. So Katie Fry says, how about going live on your profile? Is that an option to get some friends into the video game? So I've done this by accident and started seeing people from, like, high school that I haven't spoken to in, like, 10 years. Start following, like, watching. And I was freaking out. Why did they know me? How do they know where I am? And then I realized, oh, yeah, I'm on my profile page. I need to change that page.
So this you have to be careful with. If you're using your personal page for it, because it does if it's leading to revenue generating stuff, if you're sending them to things that could be seen as revenue generating, you're technically violating Facebook's terms of use. And they can shut down your profile page and they can get rid of it. And then you'll no longer have access to your Facebook group. You'll no longer have access to your Facebook page. You no longer have access to anything unless you have other people on those accounts who can let you back in. Kind of will destroy your business on Facebook in one fell swoop. So what I do use it incredibly sparingly. I'm not talking even once a week. I'm talking maybe once every of a month. Sparingly is I do divide my friends into lists on Facebook. You can put your. Depending on who your friend is, you can create different lists for them that you add them to on Facebook. And I have one that's called Biz Friends that everyone's on my friends list. But then my business friends are all on this specific business friends list. And if I'm asked to share something specifically for someone or if I am in a launch mode, I will create like one little post that sends them to a content upgrade or do a live video or share a video I did over on my Facebook page. But I'll make sure that the audience that sees it because you can set those controls as to who sees the different posts that you're putting out there. And I'll set it to just my business people. And I have done a few Facebook lives there before where I'll set the control so that, okay, privacy people who can see this post, only people on my biz friends list. And I'll go live. And they, they mixed results there. Just because most of the time I find in this industry a lot of people are using feed blockers during the day, so they're only seeing what's going on inside of groups so they're not distracted by what like family, friends and everyone else has going on or news or anything like that during the day. So if you want to be able to get more, I guess, of a return on the time that you spent on that, I recommend doing it a little bit later in the day, like evening by the time people kind of turn that off. Because during the day they're working, they're trying to get their shit done. And they're on Facebook for business purposes. So most of the time it means that their, their feed is blocked and they're only seeing business pages or groups or their messages and stuff like that pop up. Good.
Well, Kathy wants to know, but you can share your revenue generating stuff on your business page, right?
Yes, yes. It's just like your personal profile. Facebook is not a fan of you using pages that way. Which is why, like I don't let people into this, the Facebook group, if their personal profile page that they're requesting to get in with. I know a lot of people try to work around this. Lots of MLMs teach this, which really irritates me that oh, you just create a private personal page because then you can be friends with people and they're more likely to see it. So that's a way around it. No, you're pissing Facebook off. And if someone reports your page, all of your stuff is gone. Your friends are gone. Anything that you were adminning, anything you had access to is gone. So don't use personal profile pages to create pages for your business. Create a freaking business page. It's much easier if you just follow the rules. But they do say that it has to be. The terms of use are very vague with their language in that they say it just can't be a majority of the time that you're sharing revenue generating stuff on your personal page. So I always recommend go sparingly with it, like save it for one big launch period, that maybe you do a couple in there or it's once every other month you'll go ahead and share something, something that someone's stuff on your personal page.
Good to know. Well, we don't have any other questions. I think we went through everything Kathy said. I meant sharing your business things from your personal. Like when she posts a video on her business page, can she share that video on her personal page? And I think that's okay. Like if she shares a. Yeah, sharing.
It'S okay as long as it shows up as like, like Kathy shared love inspired post. And underneath it that's okay. It just can't be a post native to your profile page.
Yeah, yeah. I think that's all the questions. I mean we've been on here for 50 minutes strong.
After fun tech issues today. I mean, we're knocking this out.
Yeah, it turned into a whole Facebook Q and A.
But that's how you use leverage video on Facebook because it is going to get more reach. And if that's where you find that a lot of your ideal Clients are hanging out at. Put your video there. Then make sure that you're leveraging that video also on YouTube so you can get the reach there with Google. Make sure that then you're leveraging that video over on your website so that you're getting the reach there and you're tagging it all over Hell's Half Acre on all the other social media platforms. Yes.
I think maybe we should wrap it up here. I think 60 minutes of us may. People might start getting maybe bored, maybe not.
People might be over it. All right. Where can people find more of you online?
So you're watching this video on my YouTube channel. And so I post. I try to do two days a week here on my channel. So feel free. Free to just click, subscribe and then I am in my Facebook group. You just search Facebook. It's video for biz crew. And like you've heard throughout this, what I do in that group and all that stuff, those are the two places that I'm most active and sometimes on Instagram as well. Megan, where are you so you can.
Come hang out with me? I really love Instagram stories. Not a huge fan of the Instagram curated feed, but I really love Instagram stories. So that's at Megan Underscore Maydel. And then over on my website, Megan Madele.com and in my Facebook group, Badass Bosspreneurs, come hang out with me in there. I'm constantly posting and doing Facebook lives and stuff like that in there that are. That are just me being me. I guess the best reason.
So thank you guys for watching and I do want to shout out Heather because she did share this video in the. So shout out to Heather for sharing our live video over in the savvy group. And thank you guys. If you were signed up for our webinar and you found us over here, thanks for dealing with the mess. And if you just popped in to watch us live, thanks for being here.
So make sure you download the worksheet.
Yep. It's in the description box. It's the channel checklist. Yeah. Everything you need to know to set up your YouTube channel. So thanks, guys. Bye.
