This is a YouTube video titled "Is TubeBuddy Worth The Money?" created in June 2020. The content is a detailed tutorial and review by a single speaker explaining the features and benefits of TubeBuddy, a YouTube channel management tool. The speaker covers keyword research, A/B testing thumbnails, audience retention analysis, and video analytics to help viewers understand how TubeBuddy can save time and improve their channel performance. The video also includes a promotional discount code and encourages viewers to watch a related analytics tutorial.
Hey guys, welcome back to my channel where I'm all about giving you the confidence to show up on video. And today I wanted to talk about TubeBuddy. I've had a lot of you ask me about TubeBuddy. Is it worth it? Should you get the paid for version? Maybe you've tried the free version and you're wondering if you should upgrade. So I'm going to bring you behind the scenes to show you the things that I use TubeBuddy for and let you know if I think it's worth it for you to actually get the paid version of TubeBuddy or not. First off, let's talk about what TubeBuddy actually is. TubeBuddy claims to be your best friend to the road of YouTube success. And it is a free browser extension and mobile app that integrates directly into YouTube to help you run your channel with ease. So what does that actually mean and what can it do for you? I've had TubeBuddy now for about three years and I use it for things like Keyword Explorer, retention analyzer, AB testing, and video analytics. So let's look into what these things actually are and if it's going to help you in your YouTube channel and save you time anywhere. Because in all reality, what it comes down to being consistent on YouTube. Showing up on YouTube is really making sure you're focusing your time on the right things that are going to move your channel forward. Trying to figure out which video you should create or which keyword you should target tends to be the hardest problem myself and a lot of my students and clients really struggle with. So you want to make sure you do the right research for your video to ensure when you post it on YouTube, it's actually going to get found and people are going to watch it. But the problem is we don't normally have a whole lot of time to dig into this research. That's where the TubeBuddy Keyword Explorer comes into play and where this specific feature of TubeBuddy has literally saved me over 300 hours of my time using this tool. It's literally tracked right inside of my TubeBuddy account and it saved me over 300 hours. So this is exactly how I use Keyword Explorer. You see, it's up here at the top once you install it. And then I go down here to Keyword Explorer and let's say I want to create a video about editing videos. I know I get a lot of you asking me about how I edit my videos. So what I do is I'm going to type into here how to edit YouTube videos. This is going to be my starting point to see is this what I should target? Is this how I should formulate my video? Or should I take it to a different direction? That's going to leave me more opportunity to get more eyes on my video. So if I come in here to how to edit your YouTube videos and what I'm specifically looking for is down here, how many monthly searches now there's over 234,000 searches each month on YouTube for this particular term. But I'm a smaller channel. I'm not trying to reach the masses here. Anyways, I have a very specific target audience. So this probably, this wide big video isn't probably the best bet for me. But TubeBuddy has these options over here to look at. So video searches. Here are some related video searches that TubeBuddy is recommending. How to edit videos on imovie on phone. On your phone. And then I also use tags, not as tags, but I use these common video tags as more video ideas. So maybe how to edit videos for YouTube. How I edit my YouTube videos and I'll scroll through here, Final Cut Pro, maybe I want to position my video about how I edit on Final Cut Pro and I just scroll through here to really kind of solidify the video that I want to create. Because remember, how to edit YouTube videos is such a broad topic. It's not really calling out to a specific person. So the more specific I can get on this topic that my audience wants to see, the better my video is going to perform. So I might pick something like how to edit YouTube videos on iMovie. So I just click on that and I see what that looks like. Now a lot of you are probably going to ask me like Trina, what about an overall score? Like what's the best overall score? Obviously these are here for recommendations. You don't have to necessarily look at this again, what I'm looking for is is there at least a thousand searches each month for the topic I'm consider to give me enough leverage to show up in my target audience's search feed or suggested feed. The other thing inside of this keyword explorer is a weighted versus unweighted version. So a weighted version is taking into consideration my current YouTube channel, how any of my videos will perform against what's already out there. So you can see weighted down here, on average my last five videos got over 800 views. Whereas the competition on YouTube right now for how to edit YouTube videos on iMovie had around 420 views. Four views. So this lets me know, okay, I can probably compete against that. I could potentially start showing up specifically for the keyword how to edit YouTube videos on iMovie. And so you can see the score above is specific to your channel, whereas the unweighted version doesn't take your channel into consideration, doesn't take any of the authority that your channel has built if You've been on YouTube for a while. So that's the difference there. And that really helps me determine, okay, I have a bit of a opportunity here with this particular title. Now, some of these features are part of the paid for option of Tubebuddy. So the way versus unweighted is definitely a pro license or above that. You need to see that. The other thing that I use Tubebuddy for all the time is the AB test on thumbnails. Now, the way they test a B on your thumbnails is I'm going to show you here on my screen in a minute. But they have one thumbnail up for 24 hours and then it clicks over to your other one that you want to test at midnight Pacific time. And then it will test that for 24 hours and they will run back and forth Thumbnail A for 24 hours, thumbnail B for 24 hours until the data is statutory, statistically significant, that one will outbeat the other. So if we go into my tubebuddy and we go to my A B test, you can see the different types of things that we have tested on our thumbnails specifically. You can also test titles, you can also test metadata. But specifically for me, I'm really trying to hone in on the best type of thumbnail before I move on to titles and metadata. So you can see in this video, we tested pink versus more natural and this is still in progress. It doesn't have enough data. And when you come in here, it's going to give you that information based on the total number of impressions and clicks, we're 88% sure that your variation will perform better. So this is my variation. This is actually looking like it's going to perform better. But they want a 95% confidence level before they give this a stamp of approval that that variation is going to perform best. So for one that the test is complete. If we do this one, you can see that based on click through rate the variation version of your video, outperform your original by 192%. That's huge. That could be so many extra views on your channel if you didn't test different thumbnails. So you can see right here, click the rate on my original, which was this one, was a 0.49%, whereas the variation was a 1.4%. You can also see total views from the original during this test was 8, whereas the variation was 17 views. That's so significant. So I really use this to hone in on what trends are really working. So for this one, we tested kind of an outline 60 versus a drop shadow 60. And the drop shadow actually won better. Everything else in this thumbnail is the exact same same. It's the same photo, it's the same background blurred out, it's the same text, but the drop shadow just performs significantly bigger. And the only way I was able to figure that out was by using TubeBuddy AB testing. If you've watched quite a few of my videos, you know I really talk about audience retention and how can you kit people to watch your videos longer. So TubeBuddy makes it super simple. You can come into TubeBuddy and go to your retention analyzer and you can filter it by video type. So I want to filter it by uploads. I don't really care about my live streams. I don't do a whole lot of them. But I want to see which uploaded videos actually get longer audience retention because I want to study those and see what am I doing, what am I saying, how am I delivering my content to do that over and over to keep you watching longer. So what I like here is we're looking by time. What I like looking for in here is what's the percentage of people getting to my end screen. Remember, end screen click through rates are huge for you to grow your channel. So I'm going to skim through here and see which videos had the highest percentage of people getting to end screen. So for example, this one had 66% of people watching to half of the video and then 47% of people got to the end screen. So I would want to go to this video in my YouTube analytics and look at that audience retention graph. How did I open that video? How did I deliver my content? What did I do specifically in this video that kept people watching longer? And you can go on down as well. So this one, 46% of people got to end screens also. Again, you just keep scrolling through here to really figure out which videos are doing best to keep people engaged. And then you know exactly what you need to do in your videos that you're filming to make sure your audience retention is good. Another thing TubeBuddy has that I use a lot in planning. My YouTube content is Videolytics. So videolytics is this kind of sidebar that shows up beside videos and it gives you some data. Specifically the data I'm looking for is how well this video is performing. The topic here is how to choose the right copyright formula for you. This is a client of mine, so I already know how she's performing. But I wanted to use this as an example. So you can see this video has had over a quick overview from videoytic. Over a thousand views, 17 comments, 70 likes. You can also see right here that four of the videos in her suggested videos over here are of her. You can also see maybe where she's being shared on social media. You can also get a channel hole. So this channel specifically has 300,000 views, 10,000 subscribers, and the tags that she's using as well. What you can also do is come into compare and you can compare this video to one of your videos if you have a similar topic or to your channel's most popular video. I'm just going to show you an example. We're going to compare this to her channel's most popular. So we're going to hit compare and see the data that we get and how can we use that for your specific content strategy. So if you're creating content around copywriting or you know there's channels out there that talk about similar content as you, you can see, okay, this is how to choose the right copy formula for you. But her best performing videos is 5 hacks for writing better Instagram captions and you get a quick glimpse of how well her top performing video is doing. Again, this just helps you to kind of see how well a content is being searched. Are people wanting to watch this type of content? What kind of is the demand for this kind of content or this kind of channel again to help you really strategize for your channel. Now, if you want to try this and get a discount, I have a 20% off discount code called Trina's Buddy. You're gonna go to tubebuddy.com trina and type in that promo code Trina's buddy to get 20% off to try this. I would love to know if you use tubebuddy. If you have any more questions about TubeBuddy, I would be more than willing to go into more detailed tutorials if that's something that you're interested in. So whether you decide to buy Tubebuddy or not, the best way to grow your channel and set your channel up for success is to understand your analytics. I went into full detail on this video on your screen right now on exactly what you should be looking for in your analytics. Analytics without even any special tools.
