Make Your YouTube Channel Look Professional!

Trina, a YouTube strategist, reviews real creator channels and gives feedback on branding, thumbnails, and titles. She works through viewer submissions live, showing exactly what makes a channel look professional and how to fix common mistakes.
Hi. And today's live channel reviews. I'm actually going to be looking at channels and showing them how they can make their YouTube channel look more professional. I'm going to be taking some volunteers from my live session watchers and show you what they could be doing, which could also be what you could be doing to make your YouTube channel look more professional, to get more views and more subscribers. So, so stick around. If we haven't met before, my name is trina. I'm a YouTube strategist and I use this channel to help creative entrepreneurs like you get on YouTube to grow your business. Because if you're a busy business owner and a mom and the other titles that you own, you don't have time to be online 24 hours a day, seven days a week. So it's time to get YouTube to do the heavy lifting for you. So. So since we are officially live, I'm going to sneak. We've got anybody in the comments who is ready to volunteer, so I would love to see who is watching here today with me and who wants to volunteer to have a channel review. This is so much fun. Everybody gets such great content out of this and people love to get feedback on their channel. So I can't wait to get going on channel reviews. So go ahead, let me know who's watching and we will get started in one seconds. It's awfully raining here today. It's actually supposed to rain 3 inches in the next two days, so it's a little dark and dreary in here. That's why I got my glasses on, because the screen's a little bit brighter than normal. We are going to go ahead and get started. And the first channel that I'm going to review is a friend of mine and I actually did a collaboration with her a couple weeks ago. And so I'm going to review a Solopreneur Sidekicks channel. And if you aren't following her, you've definitely got to pop on over to our channel. I'll show it to you here in a second. I'm going to get it pulled up. And she's got great tech tutorials and just how tos on how to get your business in order. And what's really great about Luis, who owns Solopreneur Sidekick, is that she lives in Bali. Yes. So she took her business and moved to Bali and she has such a great story. So after I do Luis's channel, I'm looking for another volunteer. Pop your name in that comment section so that I know you want to Volunteer. So let's go ahead. I will share my screen here so we can get started and get some insight on how to make your YouTube channel look more professional. So this is Luis's channel again. If you are not subscribed to her, pop on over and just subscribe to her because look at her videos. She does, how to get started with squarespace and how to fix it if you deleted the page. Because if you're like me, you've made mistakes in the past and you've deleted a page or two. So initially off the bat, you know, to make your channel look professional is you really got to focus on this channel banner. And a side note, the image, imagery, or the dimensions of the channel banner have changed recently. So I'll show you my channel, how it's changed. I believe it happened just yesterday. I noticed it on my channel. It's off just a little bit. So if you do have a YouTube channel, pop on over to see. We'll see now it's not doing it. It was off yesterday. Just make sure it's still working for you because YouTube updated this, so now it slides up. You see how that goes now? So that was an update that they just recently did. So Louise definitely has her branding clear. She has her schedule clear. If you do not have a defined schedule yet, it's really important to get your audience to know when you're post new videos. When you're just starting a channel, it may seem like nobody's going to care, nobody's going to show up. But what you want to do is as you start connecting with your audience, you need to let them know when you're posting a video so that audience knows I cannot wait for solopreneur psychic video on Tuesday. And so they know they're going to set aside a time in their day, Tuesday to come back and watch your videos. So even if you are posting consistently and every week, make sure it's clear when you post it. And it just make you look more professional. And it will let your audience know that you are creating new content all the time. So they should probably subscribe to you because you got new content coming out all the time. Her value prop is pretty strong here. It's your online biz tech sidekick. I would maybe focus on what type of biz tech. Biz tech can be huge, as you know. So one suggestion that I would have to Luis is maybe what specific text tech, Just make it stand out. But she's got a great photo of her. The only thing is this image of her. It's kind of distracting with what this circle is right here. I would possibly add like one of these photos up here. It would just stand out a little bit more. Kind of similar here to me just because it's very clear and you just, you want to squint and see what that is and you can't really see what it is. So that's the only imagery I would probably change specifically for her channel banner. It's bright, clear, not too much text. And then you go down in here to her videos and you see very branded stands out. I love the vector icons. So that's what those icons are. One thing that I would suggest is to add enticing chant playlist titles. So learn Squarespace may not be the best enticing video. I mean playlist. So maybe I would say learn get better with your Squarespace website and be your own web designer or something like that. Something that really stands out and grabs people's attention to make them want to click it and actually learn. So the more value you provide in that title, the more clicks you're going to get and the more opportunities you have for people to start Netflix binging your content. That's the goal, my friends. Netflix binging your content. So she's done a great job with thumbnails. Again, I would probably just tighten up those playlist titles. Her titles are okay, but. And she's doing great. I mean over 6,000 views here, 9,000 views here, 176,000 views on there. But one thing that I do to work on these titles is pitch more of a value. What to do when you delete a page in Squarespace. Maybe she could put you deleted a squarespace page. Now what you really want to optimize these titles for people. You want people to be enticed by that title and make them want to click it. I would definitely focus on creating some enticing titles. For example, I've been trying to work on mine where here I said yesterday on my video, prioritize your business for a three day weekend. Somebody sees three day weekend, they're like, heck yes, I'm in. I want my three day weekend. So anything that you can do to entice people to watch that? Let's check out her about section because this is another spot that you want to focus on too. If you want your channel to look more professional is making sure you have your name and your value proposition at the beginning of your about section. Because this pops up if people hover over your icon throughout YouTube and your about section is going to show up. So you got to make it clear that what your value proposition is, you can get people over to your channel. Oh, another suggestion I'd have is I think Louise should be in this picture. I know she's using this as like a sidekick. She's like this tech sidekick. But again, people just connect with a human. And when you're responding to comments and this is the icon that pops up, it's kind of informal. You want them to feel like you're speaking to them. And so that's one suggested I have too. To look, look just a little bit more professional is to have a close up shot of Louise. Maybe even just this picture right here of her face. You'll see, for example, I actually need to zoom in on my picture a little bit better. I need to redo that one. Because people connect with the whites of your eyes. They can see the whites of your eyes. It's a proven fact. They feel like they can trust you more. So that's one of the things that you would want to do. So off the bat, surface level, the things that Louise would want to do to make her channel look more professional would be to change this up a bit just because I'm not sure what she's pointing at. It's very unclear. It doesn't like, fit in with her value proposition. Change this icon to her face. And also updating some enticing playlist titles that would get people to Netflix binge her content. All right, so I'm going to pop on over here back to you guys and see if you have any questions and if I've got another volunteer today. Hello, Heather. You would love a review. Fantastic. Hello, Doveco. I have my first video ready, but it's still private. So I need to make the video live in order to benefit from the review. I could review your channel homepage. I wouldn't be able to review your video if it's private. Hi, Maddie's daddy. I'm glad you're here today. So, Heather, why don't I go ahead. I'm going to click on your channel and give you a channel review. So let me switch my screen back to my screen so that you can see what I'm talking about. All right, Heather. Heather does aquatics. This is fun. So this is a bit much. I would say it's very hard to read. Specifically. Life's better with fish. I like that tagline. But this all kind of blends together. I love the fish. I think that's super cute. But it just all blends together. I would if this is the title of your channel, I would make that larger and then make this smaller with a different font because this is all just kind of blending together. Nothing really stands out. It just kind of, like, confuses your eyes on what to look at. Again, with the icon, I would definitely have an icon of you, especially if you are talking in the videos. Again, you want people to connect with you. People are more likely to come back, watch your video, and become a fan of your content if they know who you are and they can connect with you. So, again, I love these fish. I think they're super cute, and I love these graphics. But I still think we should see a picture of you here and possibly on your channel banner as well, because your channel banner is basically your first impression. I'm gonna go ahead and subscribe to you. So now you have 379 subscribers. I think your. Excuse me. I think your thumbnails are cute. I'm loving the purple. It definitely stands out on a YouTube background. I've talked a little bit about, you know, having rainbow vomit colors on your thumbnail. So I think these are great. The only thing that I would. This is a little bit difficult. I see you're putting the icon here in the corner. That's fantastic. But again, the thing that's happening with this is you're seeing two fish, and this doesn't really resonate. So if you want to do this fish icon, either put a background here. So like with me, I have, like a corner here, and then my logo or not put fish here, because it just looks. It looks. I don't know, it just looks awkward with, like, this little fish and this big fish. Is this little fish a part of this big fish? Is this big fish eating this little fish? So I would try to figure out what you would want to do here in this corner to make it pop. So when people are scrolling through suggested videos. So, for example, say we go over here to a video when people scroll through all of the suggested videos and your logo over here pops. Right now, it just kind of blends in. And again, it looks kind of confusing with the actual big fish and the little fish. So just see if you can figure out that a possible way to make that pop. You got quite a few comments. This is amazing. I think you have a great channel. Content looks good. Let me see. I'm Heather with Varuna Aquatics. We are on. Hey, everyone. So one thing I would suggest at the very beginning of your video, Heather, is to make sure you're pitching your value or your hook at the beginning of your video, you want to make sure people know why they're going to be watching your video. And so that's really in the first 15 seconds, you've got to grab their attention, which also goes with titling your video. Day two. Nobody's really searching Day two. All right, I know this looks like it's a series, and that's fantastic. You could definitely put this series into a playlist. But I would suggest having these videos more optimized for humans and what they're searching for instead of like day three. Even if you add day three at the end of the title, because the first couple letters of your title are what is weigh heavier on SEO. So if you do want to do days, I would add the days to the end of the title. Some of these titles are a bit long, you see, they get truncated. So people don't really know. German Blue, Ram, Pear, what? So you got to be really careful, too, with the length of your titles. I'm going to flip the screen around here so I can see if you've got any questions so I can make sure I got all of your questions answered and you understand what you should be doing next to improve your channel. I love the diversity of this group. Solopreneur Aquatics. I know. So much fun. I'm still camera shy, so my face is only in one of the videos and not on my banner. Heather, I know it's hard, but in this day and age, as the business owner, we are the leader of our business. And for you to grow your business, it's going to be really important to make sure you stand out as the leader in your business and so having some type of presence. So even if you just do the intro on camera, say 15, 20 seconds of just you talking, that still lets people see you and get to connect with you as the leader. No community doesn't have a leader, right? Every community has some type of leader. Somebody leads that community. And if you want to be the leader of your aquatics community, you. You got to connect with you. And those first videos are going to be hard. Trust me, my first videos are not that. I tell people all the time, go look at my videos. I feel like I'm overacting, like, not being myself. And you can go back to anybody's first videos, really on YouTube and see. It takes a while to get comfortable on camera, but the more you do it, I promise it does get a little easier. Let's see. See? Yes. Understanding this is great info. You're showing me things that really make sense to change. Fantastic. Heather, I would love to answer any other questions that you have while I have you on here. I typically do two channels just for time's sake because I don't want this to get massively long and everybody get bored. Maddie's daddy says so. True. We definitely get better and more comfortable over time on camera. And it's just the whole YouTube process too. So the more content that you create, the more you get on camera, the easier it gets. It actually just spoke to one of my students this week. We had a two hour intensive together and she's one of my students. She became part of my program in July of last year and she told me this is word for word. Trina, I've been doing this since I got into your program, which was in July. And I finally last weekend filmed a video where I felt confident and it did not take me forever to film. So it takes time. It's not going to be easy at the beginning. There's a huge learning curve. But the value really pays off here on YouTube because YouTube's such a long game and YouTube hasn't even fully reached this potential. It's going to be as more people get on YouTube, as YouTube starts to push more original content and cable services. YouTube is going to be a game changing platform that you've got to be on for your business in the future. And you guys are in on it in the beginning. If you are on YouTube right now, it may seem oversaturated, but it is not even remotely close to being oversaturated for business owners. So you all are in it at the perfect timing to grow your business. I want you to know that it will take time, but it will happen. You just got to keep doing it. I'm so glad that you are here, Heather and Courtney and Generation Calm. Who else was here? Hello, Doveco. Thank you guys so much for showing up today. I love reviewing your channels. Don't forget I'm here every Thursday at 1pm so if you want your channel review, make sure you click subscribe. You hit that little bell notification so that you're notified when I go live. So you can be the first person to request a channel review. Generation Calm says Heather. You're already getting great encouragement. Imagine if you put your face on there. Yes, Heather, that is so true. You had so many comments on your videos. So people are loving the content that you're sharing. They just need that extra step to connect with you. So I really think that you can do it. I know you can do it. I know it takes some time and support. Feel free to join my Facebook community as support. We're all there to share each other's videos and give each other that extra boost of support because it is hard. It's hard being on camera. You're really being your most vulnerable self by putting yourself out there. So we would all love to see support you there as well. So I hope you guys have a great weekend this weekend and I will see you again back here next week at 1pm Bye.
