My YouTube Uploading Routine [How we upload 50+ YouTube videos every month!]

Trena Little walks through uploading and optimizing YouTube videos at scale. The routine covers thumbnails, tags, playlists, monetization settings, and scheduling to handle 50+ uploads monthly while maximizing growth and engagement.
Hey, it's Trina. If you are new here, I help you plan, organize and create content that helps you drive more traffic to your business. And in this video, I want to walk you through the process of properly uploading your video to YouTube and how to schedule it. Plus all of the little optimization steps not only I do for every single video, but what we do for our agency clients as well. So first up, this step is going to blow your mind if you have not done it yet. And it's called creating your upload defaults. This makes filling out the description box of your videos so much easier because every time you upload a new video, it's automatically populated into the description box. So let me show you how to do that and what to include in the description box. So how I start uploading is I come into YouTube studio, I go up here to create, upload my video, I'm going to select my file and the length of time it's going to take you to upload really depends on your Internet speed and, and the size of your video. So this video is almost 2 gigabytes and it's saying it's going to take me about 7 minutes. But I worked with my Internet provider to really make sure I have great upload speed. A lot of the times we have faster download speed, but it's the upload speed when you're putting videos on YouTube that's really going to affect how fast your video is uploading. Now one thing I want to share with you that's really going to blow your mind. You can see in this description, my description box is already filled out, not specifically for this video, but but I do have description box defaults. So in these defaults I already have my lead magnet. I have some videos for them to watch Next I have links to additional assets that I have available like my prep system, roadmap, free training, how to work with me, tools and services that I use. If you have not done this, I'm going to blow your mind and show you how to add upload defaults. Back again at the YouTube studio, you're going to come here to settings and you are going to add upload defaults. And this is where you can add all of those things that maybe you're repeating in every single video. In fact, I need to go ahead and remove this because this challenge isn't available. You also want to make sure that your default is to private because then you can schedule your videos out in the future. You don't need to add any tags here. So the rest of this is good to go. I'm going to save and go back to my video that is still uploading. Now, while this is uploading, one thing that I'll go ahead and do is add in my title. I've already have that planned. I planned that before I even filmed this video. And I have the thumbnail available, so we keep everything here in Asana. So. So I'm going to go ahead and grab the title of this video, copy it and put it in here as the title. I'm also going to come back here and get the thumbnail that we had. I think I'm going to go with. We have two options that we're testing for this particular video. So we're going to try one with text and one without. I want to go ahead and start with the one with text. So I'm going to download that and scroll on down to here, upload it to my thumbnail. Now, if the size is bigger, you got to make sure your thumbnail file is no larger than 2 megabytes. Now I got that corrected. I'm going to go ahead and get that in there. When it comes to playlists, I do recommend getting your videos on playlists if you know you are going to be building out playlists. This is actually the start of a series here on my channel all about content planning. So I don't have a playlist yet for it, but you could easily add it right in here to any of these playlists. I do think I'm going to add this into how to manage a social media strategy for 2021 because that's still great for that. When it comes to my audience, this is not made for kids, so I'm going to make sure. No, it's not made for kids. When it comes to paid promotion, I don't have any paid promotion in this video. Nobody paid me to talk about anything in this particular video. So I do not need to check this. Now if you had a brand sponsor a video or pay for you to talk about a product, then you would need to check that. I'm also going to go ahead and add automatic chapters for right now. We have been adding in our own chapters, but I like to see, you know, what YouTube does on its own and then we tweak it from there. I'm going to add tags in a little bit, so don't worry about tags for right now. When it comes to allow embedding, I always have turned on because I embed these videos into a blog post on my website. I Also want to publish the subscription feed and notify my subscribers. When it comes to allowing people to sample this content, this is brand new. This means people can sample this in short for me right now. If you want to sample this content, if you want to share it out to your audience, by all means go ahead. But if you don't want people sharing or sampling your content, make sure this is turned off. When it comes to category for me, I have it set as education. It can be, you know, wherever you want it, what you think best for you. This isn't going to make or break your channel, but again I do education. You can decide if you want comments and ratings on. So you can come in here and allow all comments. You can hide inappropriate comments, you can hold all comments for review or you can disable comments. So I just hide inappropriate comments for review. I sort by the top. I also allow likes and dislikes of my videos. Totally fine by me. Not a problem. When it comes to monetization, I don't really have a strong game plan behind monetization. Like I mentioned, I would totally check out Catherine Manning's channel for this and I'll link to that below. But what I generally do is I turn monetization on and just kind of leave it here. You can see that right now. During the video the mid roll ads will be placed at natural breakpoints. So I just leave it for now. If you want to you can go in here and manage your mid rolls and actually decide where you want an ad break. This is again if you are More depending on AdSense as your primary money maker. I just don't have the time to do that. My moneymaker is in my business. So again I just leave monetization how it is. The next thing that we go to here is ad suitability. So you need do you have inappropriate language? None of these? Do you have adult content? No violence, no shocking content? None of my content really falls into any of this stuff. So I'm just going to select none of the above. I'm going to go here to submit rating. This allows me to see how safe my videos are for ads for brands. So I'm going to submit my rating. I'm going to go to next I'm going to add in the end screens and the cards once the video is completely updating. You can see right now it's processing the HD version and here at checks you can see there were no copyright issues found and my videos are currently suitable for ads based on my rating. So again next I always have my Video to private. If you set it to unlisted, you're not going to be able to schedule it out. I want to make sure I'm scheduling my videos. I don't do it as I'm uploading so I always have it on private. So I'm going to go to save. And yes, I have changed clothes. I record all of my videos on one day and then I do these screen shares on a different day. So at the beginning of this video and at the end of this video I'm in a totally different outfit because it's a different day when I batch and then I do these screen recordings on another day. So just to let you know. Okay, now that this video is uploaded, I am going to tweak the title just a little bit. I want to really highlight this is all personal preference. I like to make it create a social media content calendar from scratch in under 10 minutes. Again, just a personal preference of mine. You can play around with titles if you capitalize them or not. Totally up to you. The next thing I'm going to do is grab my tags and then I'm going to write the description box. So again, I plan all my content in advance. I know what tags I'm using, I know what title I'm using. So I'm going to come back here to my YouTube. These were the tags that I decided were the most important ones that I wanted to put in here. So we're going to go down here to tag, add those. If you copy and paste, you need to make sure that they have a comma between them. So we're going to go back here and just backspace comma, we're going to backspace comma, go back to this, delete these all and post them back in. Ta da. Now I love using Tubebuddy for this because tubebuddy is also going to give me more ideas for my video. Now I'm just going to pick the keywords that literally describe my video. So I know I'm going to use Content calendar which is right there. I'm also going to put in content calendar for social media. I'm going to do social media content calendar, content marketing, social media content planning, Content calendar planning. These blue numbers that you're getting are right now vid iq. Like I said, I lean more towards Tubebuddy so that's why I'm going here to the Tubebuddy plugin to make sure I have all the ones that I wanted. Social media media calendar. Social media calendar. I'm actually going to do 2021, I'm going to come up here and also do social media calendar. 2022 out of 500 characters. I have 488. There was no real strategy. I just decided, okay, that looks good enough. Now I'm going to take these keywords and I am going to summarize what this video is about. So I'm going to go ahead and delete this. And I want to incorporate social media content calendar at the beginning as early as possible. Because this is so specifically what my video is about. I have create a social media content calendar. When I look down here again, a couple more of the keywords I want to incorporate Social media calendar, content marketing, social media content planning. Okay, so that looks good. I use a couple of my keywords in there and conversational text. I did about two paragraphs here. I'm going to make sure I save this. The next thing that I'm going to do is I'm going to come here to end screens. These are so important. I highly recommend having a specific video that you are pitching them at the end of each video. In fact, for this video, you'll see as I click on the video that's on your screen right now, I'm talking about about my video multiplier formula. So I'm going to go into an element. I am going to add a video. I want to choose the specific video and I'm picking the one where I'm talking about my video multiplier formula. So that one is easy ways to repurpose content. I'm going to move it over here and then I'm also going to add the subscribe button. So we're going to go ahead and add the subscribe button and move it right here in the middle. Save that. The next thing I'm going to do is add cards. And I add cards to specifically where I call out video. So if I'm talking about a video, that's when I'll add a card. So I'm going to go in here, I'm going to watch through this and make sure I have all my cards added. Okay. So I have these all spaced out. The reason why I put a card right here is because if you watch this video, the audio is kind of not great in this section of the video. So I give them an option to go to a playlist instead in case the audio just scares them away. And then I space out five more options for them to watch more content. The next thing that I'm going to do is schedule this. And the reason why I said to upload it as private is because then you can come in here and schedule. So I'm going to go schedule. This is for the 17. All of our videos go live at 8:30am so I'm going to save this. You can also see Vidiq. It's telling you when is the peak time to publish your videos. But YouTube analytics also does this. So if you aren't 100% sure when to upload your videos, just go here into your analytics, go into audience and if there is enough information on your channel you will see the peak time. So we do Wednesday. Most of our audience starts getting on Wednesdays at about 11 so that's why we send it out at 8:30. We may want to start switching to a Tuesday Thursday schedule because you can see a lot of our audience is on Tuesday and Thursday. But that's how you can start determining that. The last thing that I wanted to run through is language and caption certification. I leave this all as it is English none. I do get Captions later from Rev.com so when I publish my video I will go then order captions from Rev.com I leave the licensing and distribution all the same. Again, we already clicked on allow embedding. We already clicked on this, we already clicked on that. That should be everything. So the key piece here when uploading that many people forget is the end screen. You definitely want to make sure you're adding these end screens because this is how you're creating a channel that creates binge worthy sessions. If you can get them to watch this social media video and then watch the next one and the next one. So do not forget end screens. Now if you are interested in learning how to better monetize your YouTube videos or where to add ads for your videos if your channel is monetized, I highly recommend checking out this video from Kathryn Manning. She goes into much more detail on her strategy for doing that and where she places her ads. A lot of her business model is based on YouTube monetization. I don't focus so much on that. So I want to send you to somebody that knows what they're talking about. And if you want to make sure everything else in your YouTube channel is set up properly. Do you have the right channel banner? Do you have the right channel keywords? Make sure you get my YouTube channel set up checklist.
