Repurposing Content For Your Content Calendar... IS IT WORTH IT?

A creator explains whether it's worth repurposing content across platforms or focusing on one main channel like YouTube. The video covers the challenges of managing multiple social media channels and offers practical strategies to avoid burnout while building an audience.
True or false? The more content you push out on more social platforms, the faster you'll grow your business. What do you think in the comments? Well, based on over eight years of creating content for my business on just about every single platform you can imagine, I'm going to 100% say false in this video. I want to share with you exactly why I say false. I want to share what I've done in the past when it comes to repurposing content, why I no longer do that process anymore and what I'm doing now and seeing better results than ever before while creating less content than ever before. Plus, I'll share with you next steps for creating a content repurposing process for best results in your business. Now this initial video idea came from a comment on my video from Life with Mar when she shared with me in the comments how she's having a difficult time balancing her blog posts with her YouTube video and which one to promote and how before I go any further, I will say if you want to create content here on YouTube and you want to rely on the YouTube algorithm to do its organic reach for you and be a lead generator for you, always build your content strategy behind a YouTube video. Meaning any kind of content that I pump out anywhere always starts with YouTube. My entire content strategy is built on the strategy that I built for YouTube. Once I know what my weekly YouTube video is going to be, then the rest of my content spiderwebs out from there. But I want to make sure I'm strategically creating YouTube videos that are going to work here, going to give the algorithm the information to put my content in front of more of the right people and attract more of view to my videos. In fact, I recently did a whole video sharing my YouTube planning process. I'll link it up here for you to watch next. So what other content would I be creating after a YouTube video? This is either a blog, email newsletter, Instagram posts, Instagram stories, Instagram Reels, TikToks, LinkedIn's. Anything that I'm putting on these platforms come from the initial YouTube video that I created that week. For example, today I'm doing a video all about repurposing content. I would normally have a blog linked with this particular video, but our blog is currently on pause because guess what? It is not a number one focus in my business right now. So we're not worried about it and we're not blogging right now. But if you're on my email list, you will get an email today all about repurposing content and direct you to this video to see more about how I recommend repurposing content in 2024, then if I have time, because again, YouTube is my primary focus. YouTube is where I'm getting the best results. If I have time or if I feel like it, I will then create a carousel post on Instagram sharing the main takeaways from this video. I then may do a reel where I talk through the main takeaways, like a talking head video. I may do a B roll reel listing the main takeaways as well. And so you can see how when I focus on my YouTube video, it's much easier to create other content and it's all cohesive on every single platform as well. So what has changed with my process from the past? Here's what I did in the past. When it comes to repurposing content, I blasted my freaking content everywhere. I emailed, I blogged Instagram posts, Instagram TV, Snapchat at the time, TikTok, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest. Now that seems Trina, you turn one piece of content into 10 more pieces, but you need to understand what that means for you as the business owner. You gotta keep up on those platforms. You can't post and ghost. What this also causes your content to do is kind of become mediocre. When you're trying to pump out so much content everywhere, you're not able to give high quality, valuable content on each platform. And so a few years ago, I shoved down people's throat why they need to be on YouTube and how they can turn it into 10, 20, 30 different pieces of content and why they need to do that. But I'll tell you that eventually after 2020, you know what that was led to burnout for me. That is impossible to keep up as a team of one and impossible to facilitate communities on all these platforms you're creating content for. It's also important to realize that the type of content that people want on these platform, like Facebook and reels or post on Instagram or LinkedIn or TikTok are different. So just taking a YouTube video, splicing it up and throwing clips in different places aren't really going to do much for you because that's not how people are consuming content on TikTok or Instagram or LinkedIn. So, for example, taking a clip from my YouTube video here and just throwing it on TikTok isn't really going to do anything for me because that's not how people are consuming TikTok content. What is working well on TikTok content now is a little bit longer form. It used to be, you know, 30 seconds or less, but it's more of a three minute TikTok more of a raw talking to the camera type video. The ones where you're just throwing captions on These clips from YouTube videos are just going to get scrolled right by. So why waste your time? Same thing with Instagram right now. What's pretty popular on Instagram are b roll videos, so to speak, with text on the screen and then more information in the captions. Not just again throwing a clip from a YouTube video on Reels because people are just going to scroll right on by it. Even stories you don't want to just clip a piece of your YouTube video. There are ways to do it well, but it's not just taking a piece, putting captions on it and throwing it up there. You can talk about it in your stories, how you know you came up with this idea, you really wanted to share with people why this topic was so important. So you actually did a whole YouTube video, here's a clip from it and then you can tell them if you want to see the whole video, here's the link. That's going to be a better way because Instagram stories is about storytelling, not just blasting clip of your YouTube video saying watch a year. So around 2020 I realized I got to just focus on one platform. I don't have the time, I don't have the resources, I don't have the want to be on every single platform. So I pulled it back to just YouTube is my number one. I also make sure I send a newsletter every single week about my YouTube video and then if I have time I'm on Instagram because I like to play around with things on Instagram and be a little bit more behind the scenes on Instagra. But Instagram is not the priority. YouTube is. Let me dive into a little bit more in why I no longer do this process. I'm currently running a lean team after the past couple of years of scaling an agency and I talk more about why I burnt my agency down here. I want to really have a lean team and focus on just a few really good things. So it's myself into full time employees and I'm the main content creator. So all the content starts with me and I'm the bottleneck if I can't get content out. The other reason I choo changed what I was doing is at the end of 2023 I was feeling major burnout, like wondering why I Even have this business. What am I going to do with this business? Contemplating it. All right. And I also decided then, like, why am I trying to force myself? Because things creep up on you, right? 2020, I decided I didn't need to be on these platforms because I didn't have time because we were locked up at home. But things creep up on you. You get influenced by people, you hear gurus saying things, so you think that's what you need to do, too. So content creation and repurposing started creeping up on me the end of 2023. I'm like, what the heck am I doing? Get back to the basics. Get back to YouTube before I shared, kind of my thought process on deciding what platforms I cut out and which ones I continued on. I'd love to hear in the comments, what platforms are you currently focused on, like, creating consistent content on? Let me know down in the comments. And if you want, I would love to hear what platform you want to spend more time growing. That would be a fun one to hear as well. So I'm no longer doing blogs. It's on pause for now. Just didn't have the capacity to do that at the moment. No longer on Pinterest, because if we're not creating blogs right, we don't have new pins to go out. I did take a break from Instagram pretty much the first three months of the year. I did dabble here and there, but I wasn't consistent on Instagram at the beginning of 2023. And I am completely done with Facebook. In fact, the only thing left that was on Facebook for me was a Facebook group, which I shut down earlier this year. So I am no longer logging into Facebook. I can't realistically make good content if I'm trying to show up on all these platforms. And I can't build a solid community if I'm trying to facilitate community on like five or six different platforms. This is unrealistic for a team of one to do. And people who tell you to do this are usually people that have a team of 5, 10, 15 people. So you need to realize what you can realistically be able to do and trust in yourself that that is the right decision. And don't let marketing gurus with these large teams tell you this is what you need to do, because it's unrealistic for small teams to do. My current motto is quality over quantity. I also want to share a little bit about shorts here as well, because I get asked all the time. So my purpose for content here on YouTube is to attract ready to buy viewers, people who know they have a problem and people who are looking for a solution so that when they find me and they binge watch my content, they realize, oh, she has the solution that I want. Shorts. And people who are consuming shorts are more in an entertainment mindset. Think about it. They're just scrolling through shorts, trying to waste time, trying to be entertained, procrastinate. Right? They aren't actively searching for a solution. So that is not the audience that I want to attract to my channel. So instead of worrying about getting even content uploaded to YouTube shorts, I don't even worry about it. I don't focus on it. I just put any extra time that I would spend putting shorts up on creating good content in my YouTube videos and responding into comments here. So what am I doing now that's seeing better results than ever? This is what my current repurposing system looks like. YouTube video obviously send an email about 30 minutes after my YouTube video goes live sharing the importance of that topic and why they should go watch that video because that gives the algorithm a little bit of a boost to push my video to more people if I can. Usually an Instagram carousel post goes out the day the video goes out as well because it's a good way to encourage promoting that video. I want to get as many people of my current audience to watch that video in the first 24 hours to signal to YouTube, hey, this video is good. People are watching it. These are the type of people watching it and then send it to more people like that. Again, if I have time I will do one to two reels. I will say B roll reels are a lot easier so I may do a B roll reel which I'm collecting B roll all the time. I was just at my daughter's soccer practice last night. I set the phone up in my car as I was working a little bit B roll to use for later and I will just put some key take some valuable information text on the B roll and then elaborate it more in the captions. I may also do a talking head so when I'm done finishing this video I may look back at the main takeaways I share with you here and share that in a talking head for reels that is native for reels. I actually am allowing people to download my marketing system right now for free. It's normally $97, but I know how hard entrepreneurs struggle with staying consistent with content and marketing their business. And entrepreneurs and content creators burn out more than ever today because of the amount of content that they feel they need to create. So if you want to get my marketing calendar and a quick video within that marketing calendar on how I use it, how I layer my content, you can go to trina little.commarketing to get this for totally free. Because I really want to help business owners and content creators stop burning out and start deciding what content is right for them and where they're at in their business and not think they need to create buttloads of content like all these people say we need to do. So grab that if you want to get consistent and see a way to layer your content strategy. Now let's talk about the tools to make this process quicker. There are two things that I would utilize to make content creation quicker. Templates and AI. Or in my case, Chat GTP and the Vid IQ AI coach. So I create canva templates for my carousel. So you'll see those, those, the exact same canva templates. Every single time I do a carousel, we change the text out and it makes that process a lot quicker. Like I mentioned, I have an asana board that allows me to organize my content to be able to create content quicker as well. I leave my ideas in there. And so we always have this running list going in my Asana boards and as I mentioned, consistently creating a B roll library to use for reels. And I said AI. So the way I can use ChatGPT is once I'm done with this video, I can get the caption generated, plug it into Chat GTP and ask it to write me captions for Instagram. Now, I'm not going to take it as is, throw it on Instagram. I'm going to use that as a starting point. It speeds up the process a little bit. It doesn't do the process, but it speeds it up. In 2024, you need to think about the platform you want to focus on, that you want to put your time into. And you need to think about how that specific platform people are consuming that content. That is how you're going to see your audience grow is when you're focusing on creating the content that that platform people are consuming. And you also want to think about where do you want to hang out every day. I mentioned I don't want to be on Facebook, so I'm not creating content. I like TikTok, but I'm not creating content on TikTok right now. I really like YouTube. Honestly, I'm watching a YouTube video every single day and YouTube has longevity. So I like hanging out on YouTube. So what are your next steps for creating a content repurposing system?
