The Most Expensive Mistake Business Owners Are Making in 2026

In this persuasive video, Trena Little argues that business owners who continue to invest the majority of their content creation time in short‑form platforms like Instagram and TikTok are making the most costly mistake in 2026. She explains that these platforms require daily, trend‑driven content that never compounds and forces creators to start from zero each morning, turning content creation into costly maintenance rather than marketing. By contrast, YouTube functions as an evergreen infrastructure and sales asset: videos persist, improve with age, and are indexed by AI‑driven search engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini) that are projected to overtake traditional organic search by 2028. Little stresses that failing to shift to YouTube will cause sales to decline as audiences migrate to AI‑search and YouTube for problem‑solving, where they are in "buy mode". She supports her claim with multiple client case studies showing significant revenue generated from a single weekly video, even during periods of inactivity. The core of her solution is a "playlist funnel" system that structures each video to guide viewers through a buyer’s journey, requiring only about two hours of weekly content work. She warns that waiting to adopt this strategy is the riskiest move, as competitors’ YouTube content will compound and dominate AI recommendations. The video concludes with a call to join her YouTube Coaching Experience, aimed at business owners focused on revenue rather than vanity metrics.

Spending your time on daily content is the most expensive mistake you can make in your business in 2026. And the reason why creating this daily content for say Instagram or TikTok, why it feels so exhausting, why it feels unpredictable, like things are always changing, is because none of the content that you create on these platforms actually compounds. If you are not all in on on YouTube as a business owner trying to sell courses, trying to sell digital programs, trying to sell one on ones coaching programs. If you're not all in in YouTube in 2026, it's not a visibility problem that you're going to have. It's a complete total business risk. Because you see the real problem that's going on with your business right now isn't that you're not working hard enough. I know you're working hard, you know you're working hard, but things just aren't working like they used to work for you. The online business space has completely changed in the last two to three years. And the reason why things aren't working like they used to is because you're putting your time into content that doesn't work like it used to. Like Instagram, TikTok stories reels. When you focus on this content and you create this content, every morning you wake up, you're starting from zero on this platforms. You need a new post, you need a new push, you need a new angle, you need a new trending audio just to stay alive in these platforms and on their algorithms. That's not marketing, that's maintenance. When I started 2025, I looked at my overall business and I made one decision. I was done feeding platforms that didn't give me ROI or didn't give me the amount of ROI I needed to make spending time on that content worth it. I didn't quit Instagram because I was bad at it. I quit it because it was freaking expensive to keep up. It was expensive in my time, in my energy and my attention. I'm telling you right now, it took me more time to edit one reel than it takes me to edit one YouTube video. And when I wanted to post stories, I was constantly overthinking my stories. And it took more mental space and than if I just took all of that mental space and put it into YouTube. And the more I focused on YouTube, the easier my business became. In fact, the more my email list grew, the more clients I booked and the more my revenue grew. When I took all that time and energy from Instagram and put it completely into YouTube instead of fracturing my Time on both platforms. If you want to feel stability in your business again in 2026, here's what you need to believe. You're not going to get that stability because you don't work hard enough. You're going to lose that stability in your business because you're focusing on platforms that don't compound while you sleep. YouTube is not social media. It's infrastructure. It's a sales asset that you build that doesn't start at zero every morning. It's a platform where your content is like fine wine. It gets better with age because it keeps reaching more people. It doesn't die off. YouTube is also the only platform right now that AI crawls and references people who are using ChatGPT perplexity to go see for more information. It will actually link YouTube videos in YouTube channels. It is not going to link your Instagram account, your Instagram reel, your Instagram TikTok. And where people are going right now, where people are searching the most and where we're seeing the biggest growth that people are going to are AI platforms like ChatGPT. And if you are creating content that these platforms are going to recommend, you are going to become invisible. In fact, there is research out there that by 2028, AI search engines like Chat GPT, Perplexity Gemini are going to overtake traffic from organic searches like Google. Let me say that again. ChatGPT and other AI platforms are going to surpass Google and where people go to get their questions answered and their problem solved. It's not about showing up in Google anymore. It's about making sure AI can find you and reference you. And if you aren't creating content that it does not crawl, then you are going to become invisible. And the platforms that your audience is going to be going to in the next couple of years to find a solution, to find a person to work with to solve their problem. And if you are not on YouTube, you will not exist to these people. And I want you to understand this isn't something that you can kick down the road. You can't kick this can down the road because if you don't change anything in the next three to six months, your sales will slow down. I'm already seeing this from so many business owners that I know their sales in 2025 slow down, but they didn't make a change. They kept doing what they were doing in the past and this world has changed. So your sales are going to slow down. And it's not because you're doing anything wrong or you're doing Anything bad, but it's because your audience is tapped out and people are not going to find you the same way they found you before. Because if you keep trying to sell your product, your course, your offer, your services to the same list that you have without getting new people onto that list, without growing your audience, which is so hard to do on platforms like Instagram, you will tap out that audience. You will stop making those sales because you don't have fresh eyes on your offer. And here's what happens to most business owners. You start to panic. You start to try to make some type of pivot because sales aren't what they used to be. Your revenue is not what it used to be. You start to add more offers, you start to post more content. Trying to grasp onto anything that will help you fix this problem of not making the sales that you used to make. You become way busier than you ever were before, you're less certain than you ever were before and you are burnt the freak out. That cycle will not fix itself. It only gets worse. I'm sorry, it only gets worse. When my clients come to me to work inside the YouTube coaching experience with me. They come because they are done with that cycle. They are done feeding the algorithm. They are done trend hopping. They are done starting over from zero every single morning from these platforms. They know that YouTube is the safer place to be because people on YouTube are going there to actively have their problem solved. They're not going to Instagram to solve their problem. They're going to Instagram, they're going to TikTok for entertainment. They're not searching their problem on Instagram or TikTok, they're not looking for a solution. When they go to ChatGPT, when they go to Google, when they go to YouTube, that's when they are actively searching for a solution to their problem. That's when they have a credit card in hand to be ready to buy the right solution when they find it. When people are on YouTube they are in buy mode to have their problem solved. They are not in buy mode when they're entertaining themselves on Instagram or TikTok in the school pickup line. YouTube is also safer because your content literally lives for years. I mentioned this earlier. YouTube content is like fine wine. It gets better with time because somebody can see your video six months from now and still buy your course. Somebody can find your video next year and still buy your course. There is nobody watching a reel or a carousel post or a TikTok post from you from last year and buying it's just not happening because that content is not being served to anyone. And YouTube is safer because it does save you time. I've asked my clients time and time again, how much time are you spending creating content every single week? And on average, everyone's telling me between five to even 15 hours a week creating content. When you build the right content strategy on YouTube, it should only take you about two hours a week to be creating YouTube content in the system that I've developed for my clients. And so it takes 3, 5, 12 hours of their time back to focus on other things like serving their clients that they used to do, like taking a freaking Friday off, right, because you're already spending so much time creating content because it expires the next day. Whereas YouTube gets better every single day and it compounds with more and more views every single day. And that's why you only need to create one YouTube video a week to get the results that you're getting on Instagram or not even on Instagram, posting multiple things a day like carousels, stories and reels. When you're focused on a platform that compounds your views over time, it's not about doing more content, it's about doing the right thing that gets you the best roi. When my clients start implementing the system, I teach them in the YouTube coaching experience. I've seen them take months off and still make sales. I have a client, Alex. She took off over the summer in July and August, took off, didn't log on, traveled, make any new content. But her YouTube videos were set up as sales assets and she made $2,000 in both months without needing to do anything. I have a client, Bell, who again created her sales assets on YouTube, had a family emergency, took off six weeks and still made $16,000 because of her YouTube videos. I have clients that have committed to YouTube for the first time in preparing for their launch. And at the end of their launch, they ended up having 60% of people who joined their $3,000 coaching program come directly from YouTube. And this was her biggest launch in her 10 years of business when she decided to dedicate her time to YouTube and building an audience there. First. I've had a client put a video up with 20 views and make a membership sale and book a high ticket client with just 20 views on the video. And I have had countless clients finally quit Instagram, put up their three grid, put up their nine grid, whatever you want to put up, and put their time into YouTube and get better results than they've ever seen from Instagram. I know as you're thinking about YouTube, Instagram, doing what I'm doing, starting something new. Sometimes that waiting feels safe because you kind of know what to expect. But I'm telling you, in 2026, waiting to go all in with YouTube is the riskiest business move you can take. And it will cost you the most money in your business if you wait. Because every month that you wait, your competitors are bouncing over to YouTube and their videos are starting to compound. AI is starting to learn your competitors and that's who they are recommending. And every day you wait and you do what you're currently doing on Instagram or TikTok, your content keeps expiring at the strike of midnight and you wake up starting from zero. You really don't need more time in the day if you're feeling like you're always trying to play catch up. You need the right content system in your business and you need to be building sales assets which are YouTube videos that are built in a playlist funnel inside the YouTube coaching experience. I show you exactly how to build these playlist funnels. Because when you focus on content for a playlist funnel, every video that you create has a specific job. Every playlist is built to take people through a buyer's journey to say yes to working with you, yes to buying from you. Every week you post, you build leverage. You don't start from zero the next day. My YouTube coaching experience is not built for influencers. It is not built for people who want to be YouTubers. This is a program built for business owners who care specifically about revenue and booking clients and not about vanity metrics. Because if you're listening to somebody tote a flex that they have a hundred thousand subscribers and this is the best way to go on YouTube, that is false. Because it is more important for you to get the right people watching your videos than to get massive amounts of people watching your videos. Because the more broad you are on YouTube, the less sales you're going to make. So if somebody's telling you they can help you get to 100,000 subscribers, I would run fast. Because for business owners, it's not about virality and vanity metrics. It's about creating the right video for the right person at the right time. Otherwise you're going to be wasting your time on YouTube as well. If you know that you don't want to make the riskiest mistake this year in your business and you want to go all in with YouTube, you want to dedicate to doing it right from day one, join us inside the YouTube coaching experience right now so that you know you're creating content that builds you ROI and doesn't burn you out.
