Can I get a hands up emoji down in the comments below? If you struggle with trying to find the perfect keywords or the perfect tags for your next YouTube video, and then when you spend hours doing this, your video does not even rank in the search terms you were trying to target, don't worry, because in this video I'm going to share with you the best strategy for finding the perfect tags to rank your YouTube videos. Hi, my name is Trena and on this channel I help creative entrepreneurs just like you figure out how to start using YouTube in your business strategy. Now, here's so many things about search engine optimization and tagging videos, but I'm going to let you in on a little secret. So many people focus their time on finding the perfect tags and researching the perfect tags. But it's 2018 and almost 2019 and YouTube here is competitive. Bring it. But that doesn't mean that your opportunity here on YouTube has set sail or that you have the chance to really break out and get found here on YouTube. Instead, instead of focusing all your time on finding these perfect tags, focus on the content that you are sharing. Make sure it's valuable content and you're finding a way to keep people watching. And also focus on your titles and your thumbnails. Because it doesn't matter how great your video ranks, if that title and that thumbnail doesn't entice people to click, you could rank number one all day. But if you don't kind of tease the value or tease the story in your video, nobody's going to click. So when you are tagging your YouTube videos, what you need to focus on is just describing what that video is about. You'll want to use a mixture of short phrases and long tail keywords. Like for this video particularly, I may have a tag how to tag your YouTube videos in 2018. That's a long tail keyword. It's a longer phrase I may also use. How to tag videos YouTube tips how to Tag videos. You see how it's a combination of the two and just basically describing what your video is all about. No more spending hours using Google Keyword Finder or TubeBuddy or Vidiq to find those perfect tags. Just do the content you know your audience wants to see and focus on creating great content and keep people watching that video. The thing is, YouTube is smart. They already know what your content is about when you upload it. So by finding those perfect keywords and tags, you're not really going to trick YouTube into ranking your videos. What YouTube wants is videos that keep people watching. That's why it's going to be important for you to really focus on your audience retention more than those tags. So here's what I suggest you do. Just set a timer for 15 minutes. Go ahead and research keywords and see you know what types of keywords people are searching. You don't need to find this perfect tag or a tag that's highly searched and less competitive. Create the content you know your audience wants to see. And then once that 15 minutes is over, start stop researching tags. Spend all that extra time that you would spend researching tags and keywords on creating great thumbnails, visually pleasing, bright saturated color thumbnails, and also focusing on creating clickable titles, pitching a value or pitching a story in those titles. Because that's when YouTube's going to start suggesting more of your content. Because if you check your YouTube analytics, the videos that are found in suggested videos are way more valuable than because people tend to watch them longer than videos that show up in search results. On average, your suggested videos get twice the amount of watch time than those videos that even show up in search. YouTube wants content that keeps people watching longer, and so those suggested videos are keeping people watching longer. Now, if you don't totally believe me, that's okay, you dirty little liar. I'm going to link a video down below where my mentor, Tim Schmoyer, speaks to an actual YouTube employee that debunks the myth that tags are super important for your videos. Now, if you're ready to take your YouTube channel to that next level with more views and subscribers, make sure you click that playlist that is on your screen right now.
