Uncovering the Reason Behind Low Subscriber Numbers - And My Plan to Change It.

Trina has been running her YouTube channel since 2016 but only has 50,000 subscribers. She walks through why growth stalled and shares her plan to pivot toward business strategy and sustainable revenue instead.
I've been on YouTube since March 2016, and yes, that first video is incredibly cringey. Hey guys, welcome back to just the Tips with trina. That's almost six and a half years on YouTube and I only have 50,000 subscribers. And I see you all out there posting comments on my videos, asking me who am I to give advice about growing a YouTube channel when my channel is only 50,000 subscribers. And in fact, I had a conference organizer tell me that I wasn't qualified enough to talk about YouTube because of my subscribers. But here's the thing about that subscriber count. I've taken my business from 2016, making $13,000 in one year till this year. Right now we're looking at an October. I've already hit over half a million dollars and we surpassed what I made last year with another quarter left to go in the year. And did I mention I've done all of this with two kids under the age of two and during a global pandemic where we were all locked up at home. So yes, while people want to call me out about being a YouTube educator with under 50,000 subs subscribers, I challenge you to think what's more important, subscriber numbers or money in your bank account? Because that's what I'm focusing on. But since we have those people out there saying this, I'm going to focus on my subscriber count this year and I'm going to talk about how I'm doing that. One of the biggest reasons why my channel isn't growing and it's kind of basically stayed plateaued for six years is because I don't have time to work on it. Not only do I focus my time on building our clients channels, I'm also focusing on helping my clients inside of my program, 10k on replay and video strategy academy me grow their YouTube channel as well. Well, for me, I never have like a solid YouTube strategy in place because I am putting all my time into other people's channels. I know I'm not alone feeling this that you're spending all your time on client work or with your students. You don't have time to focus on your YouTube channel or your content either. Hit that like button if you know what that feels like, that you're putting all your time into client work and you're building this course. You just don't have time to focus on what content you want to do or what platform you want to build. That's led me to where I'm at now. I've just pretty much Been phoning it in on these videos. I've tried some different things. But again, my client work always becomes priority over my YouTube videos. But it's time to make a change. So before I share with you what I'm actually going to be doing moving forward to grow my channel, I want to share with why. Not only am I getting more leads from YouTube, but when we had our most recent launch of Video Strategy Academy back in September, we did a lot of metric and data tracking. So what we did is created four separate funnels. Whenever I talked about my webinar, my challenge, my program, Video Strategy Academy on YouTube, we use a certain link. So all the traffic from YouTube was going to a certain funnel, all the traffic from Instagram going to a certain funnel, all the traffic from Facebook ads going to a certain funnel. And what we found was YouTube and Instagram had double the conversion rate than what our Facebook ads did. That tells me I need to double down on my YouTube content because I can get more traffic from YouTube over to my funnels obviously have a higher conversion rate, which means again, more money being made. When it all comes down to as we dive into actually what I'm going to be doing to grow my YouTube channel, there is one key thing. Time. You do have to have the time to put into your YouTube channel to grow it. And we've done this with our clients. We have our client Katie, who we started her YouTube channel from scratch and in 90 days she was able to grow 12,000 subscribers and over 440,000 views. Because guess what? We do daily tracking on her videos and monthly deep dives into her analytics to tell her what strategic videos we need to focus on next and what we need to improve and what thumbnails we need to do and how to improve our titles. The same with our client, Hope inside of Video Strategy Academy. Hope in this year alone was able to grow 90,000 subscribers and has over 6 million views. So here's my game plan. First, I am going into my Google Calendar and blocking time off. Not time off to Netflix and Chill, but I'm blocking time so that I can't schedule any meetings. I can't put anything in a certain amount of time every single day because that time is going to be dedicated daily to my YouTube channel. Quick question. Do you currently use Google Calendar? Comment Google down below if you do. Because I was thinking about doing a tutorial here about how I basically schedule my life inside a Google Calendar and how I do it color coded because so many of you really enjoyed the Asana content. Calendar that I shared earlier this month and that was color coded as well. So comment Google below if you would like to see this Google Calendar tutorial that I'm thinking about creating now. The problem is if I'm going to start blocking time on my Google Calendar, I've got to take some things off my plate. I've got to start delegating some of the work that I'm doing because like I said, I've been so busy and nothing has changed. I still have the same amount of work that I had last week. And while I have two full time amazing employees, Aaron and Erica, their plates are pretty loaded as well. So where we stand right now, we've been interviewing for potentially three new employees. And if you would have told 2019 Trina, who felt like she was just surviving and thought it would be crazy to hire a virtual assistant, I didn't have the money to do that, but I'd be at a point in my business or by the end of 2022, I could potentially have five employees. Basically, there's no way I would have believed you. And how did I get to this point? My small, less than 50,000 subscriber YouTube channel. Okay, so blocking time is the first step that I'm doing. The second step I'm doing is I'm getting help with my YouTube channel. And I truly believe in coaching and having a coach. Now, I wouldn't have said this again in 2019, but over the past year I've had a great experience in a coaching program and a mastermind. And I can see really how helpful it is to have somebody give you this constructive criticism, have an outside perspective on something. Like, you're so eyeball deep in, like, I am so dedicated to my content that I kind of get boxed in and I need somebody from the outside to look in and tell me what can I do to improve? What am I missing? Basically, look over my shoulder, right? So I reached out to a person that I truly respect in the YouTube world and asked him if I could hire him to be my coach for a few months while we work on this growth strategy on my channel. And again, I honestly think this is an important step in your business. Like I said, if I I hadn't invested in my business coach, I also don't think I would have been able to get to over half a million dollars this year and as quickly as I did without having that outside perspective and that kind of sounding board. So I definitely believe in coaching. All right, now, the third thing that I'm doing, which is Big news and a major announcement here is pivoting my content. Dun dun dun. So since I got started here on YouTube, I've kind of straddled this line about YouTube education and the person I was talking to. So while I pulled in people who wanted to be YouTub, that's not particularly the person I was speaking to. I was speaking to people who were predominantly business owners and wanted to use YouTube as a lead generator or a content piece and not become YouTubers. So that niche is a pretty small niche. So I honestly believe I did pretty well in that small niche. But like I said, I want to hit 100,000 subscribers by the end of 2023. So we're going to be pivoting our content a little bit here. Not only is this going to open me up to more people, but it opens up to my passion as well. I have a degree in marketing and Public relations and I have a master's degree in business and I love helping people grow their business and create a sustainable business. And I really found out this passion recently when I launched my business group coaching program back in April, cut 10k on replay. And the whole purpose of this coaching program was to show business owners how they could set up a sustainable business model so they could hit at least 10k or more in revenue every single month. And I'm actually going to be opening the doors to this program for some more amazing business owners. So if you are interested in Learning more about 10K on replay, I highly encourage you to apply to the free private training that I'm hosting on November 4th. I'm going to talk about the structure and the framework that I use inside a 10k on replay. To get you to 10k or more months, go to trinalittle.com fill out that application on that page and then we will be in contact with you to let you know your next step.
