Now, I spend hours every single week inside of my clients and my students YouTube channels to really help them figure out what's working so we can use the algorithm to our advantage. Now, before we go any further, I want to discuss this for one second. Me spending all of my time on my clients is exactly why my YouTube channel isn't as big as some people in the comments may think. I get comments frequently about. If this is true, why isn't your channel have a lot more subscribers? Well, truth be told, it's because I'm spending all my time helping my clients grow a YouTube channel and I don't get to do most of this research and studying on my own channel. I'm just creating the videos I know that you want and not necessarily playing by the algorithm's favor. So there you have it. But it's important to understand here, the YouTube algorithm isn't just the algorithm. There are thousands of algorithms working behind the scenes at YouTube to make sure that YouTube is giving people content they're going to watch. Because remember, YouTube is only making money if people are watching more and more videos. And the more videos people watch, the more money YouTube is going to make. So I kind of like to see this as playing a game of Mario Brothers. Remember how you used to jump down in that little green tube and collect all the coins? So if you can collect as many coins on YouTube as possible, you're gonna be more likely to win the YouTube Est SEO YouTube algorithm game. So some of the things I'm going to walk you through here today that are gold coins that you can start collecting on your channel is click through rates audience Retention also end screen click throughs. These are all gold coins that you can start collecting to make your videos and your channel look more valuable to YouTube. So they start recommending your content to more people. So YouTube is running all of these algorithms behind scenes to make sure you and I are seeing videos we actually want to see and that are going to get us to binge watch YouTube. YouTube videos. That's why your homepage and your suggested in search results are going to be completely different than my homepage and suggested in search results. And why if my daughter watches some YouTube videos which are usually play doh or kids playing with toys, my homepage and my suggested videos are going to be totally different than what I Normally watch because YouTube took into effect my viewing pattern which was my daughter's and is going to serve me up more of the videos that I most recently watched. That's what the algorithm is doing behind the scenes. So how can you make this work to your advantage? First topic I want to dive in here in this video is keywords. Because this is usually the most sensationalized topic here on YouTube, making sure you have the keywords or the tags to rank on YouTube. Go ahead and hit that like button if you think it's critical or the only way you're going to succeed on YouTube is if you have the perfect keywords. Go ahead and hit that like button if you think that. Well, I'm going to talk a little bit more about keywords here in a second. It is not the critical piece that's going to make or break your YouTube channel or, or what's going to make the YouTube algorithms recommend you to more people. I've got a great case study from a client that can show proof. Here's a particular video of hers where we focused on getting people to click on it, watch it and watch another video. Now, we didn't focus on the perfect keywords. I just focused on the content that she was creating and the content she wanted to create. And then we just added the tags that made sense to for this video. But what made this video blow up yes to over 300,000 views in a 90 day period was that people were binge watching her content. So you can see here that her video was being served on the homepage and the browse feature, which means it would have been people's first video that they clicked on on YouTube. Then 13% of people that clicked on that video watched another video. So YouTube continued to to serve it to more people on the homepage and on the browse feature. Which then started a binge session. So YouTube gave it more promotion. You can see right here that over 95% of the traffic coming to this video is from YouTube promoting it. And you can see how small the search traffic is. So even if she put all the perfect tags and keywords in it, search isn't what's driving the views and the watch time. And it's all about collecting those gold coins from YouTube. But keywords are super important to understand how YouTube is recommending your content. Again, if YouTube is recommending your content for, let's say first video ideas, which YouTube has done for my channel for years, then you kind of want to double down on that content and start creating more videos around it. I. E. Niche down. This is honestly how you're going to really collect all of those gold coins. And please YouTube and please. The algorithm is if you niche down. So YouTube knows exactly what to recommend you for and who to recommend you for. Now, I know I just mentioned keywords, so I want to dig into this a little bit more here. Now, keywords are critical to the YouTube algorithm, but not in the way that you think. You do not need to find the perfect tag with the perfect search pool with the perfect competition. That's not what we're looking for here. We're looking at keywords as topics that you can create videos around, as topics that your niche can be revolved around on your channel. These keywords are what you're going to actually say in your video because YouTube knows what you're saying in your videos when you upload them. Remember, we don't have the keyword stuff our titles, because the titles of our videos is what's going to entice people to click on them. People, human beings are clicking on our titles and our thumbnails, not robots. So we don't have to keyword stuff titles just to get people to click on our videos or get our videos served. Because remember, YouTube is recommending individualized content to each person, okay? Meaning if your title and your thumbnail are getting people to click on it, YouTube is going to recommend it to more people. Not because you have all the perfect keywords and all the perfect tags, but because again, you are collecting as many gold coins as possible on YouTube. So the other thing you're going to be looking at is click through rates. And that percentage is actually the percentage of people who see your videos. So impressions that you're getting across home browse, suggested search versus how many of them clicked on your video. Now, a good percentage here is anything between 2 to 10. But I definitely suggest you always trying to compete with yourself to make that higher. So how to make that higher is maybe more engaging thumbnails, maybe better titles because these two things are what's working together to get people to click on your video. It's not just your title that's not working or not just your thumbnail that's not working. You need to make sure these two work together to really make people want to click on your video to get your click through rates up. If your click through rates go up, YouTube is going to be kind of assured that if they put your video in front of more people, more people are going to click on it and watch it. Thus watching more videos on YouTube. You understand how it's really important to really play nice with YouTube and do all these things that are going to help you accumulate kind of all these gold coins we talked about to get YouTube to promote your content for you. Another thing you're going to want to keep in mind to please the algorithm is engagement on your video. And when I mean engagement, I mean likes dislikes. Yeah, if someone gives you a dislike, thank them because that's still engaging on your video comments and also watch time so how long they're watching your videos. All these engagement factors again tell the YouTube algorithm that your content is good and people are engaging with it and people are watching it. So how can you dig down into your particular videos to improve your engagement rate? Well, the first thing that you can do is just start asking people to like your video or subscribe to your video or to leave a comment below. You'll notice that I sprinkled a couple calls action throughout here. Let me know down in the comments with a yes or a hands up emoji if you notice the calls to actions that I dropped in here. But by you just asking people to do it, they will be more likely to do it than to not do it. If you don't ask again. Watch time. I talk about all the time here on my channel. So if you aren't subscribed yet, make sure you hit subscribe because this is the bread and butter of YouTube. You can watch your audience retention graphs in your analytics. You go in by video and you can see exactly how long people are watching, when they are dropping off and what you can do to make your videos better. This may be adding call out text or maybe adding B roll. For me you notice recently I've been changing the scenes up in my videos just to try to keep you more engaged and to increase My audience retention and end screen click through rates are kind of like the Trife, the third in the trifecta where it's click through rates, audience retention and end screen clickthroughs. You really want to get people to watch to the end of your video and then you tell them exactly which of your video they're going to want to watch next. Remember, we're creating this Netflix binge session and if you can really pitch that next video, the last 20 seconds of your video, it's going to be more likely for them to click on it. So you can actually see how well your channel is doing. With end screen click through rates, you can go into your analytics, you can go by video, and you can actually compare what each video was to your channel average. Again, your goal is to get this number as high as possible. I've seen a channel that has hit over 13% end screen click through rate and her video just took off, gaining over 300,000 views in about a 90 day period. So you can really see with that specific example how important YouTube sees this engagement specifically end screen click through rates is to their algorithm. Now I've got an entire roadmap for you to walk through to make sure you're doing all these pieces right so you don't have to remember them off the top of your head. You can actually print it off. Keep it by your desk and make sure you're following all the steps to make YouTube recommend more of your content. So make sure you're collecting all the gold coins. So go ahead, download the link in the description box. I'll also link it here on my video.
