The content features Trena Little hosting a live session where she reviews and provides detailed feedback on various YouTube channels submitted by viewers. The session includes interactive discussions about channel branding, thumbnails, titles, and growth strategies, with multiple participants engaging through chat. Trena shares tips on improving channel presentation and analytics to help creators grow their audiences.
Hi, everybody. I'm just making sure everything here is set up. I'm realizing now that I had this scheduled for yesterday, so my apologies. My brain just wasn't thinking. So how is everybody doing today, halfway through January? Pretty crazy, right? How's everybody doing with their New Year's resolutions? Are there goals? I know for me, I was trying to focus on morning routine and I've been doing better so far. I started Miracle morning routine this week and I'm three days in. But I have been trying to incorporate a morning routine since about the beginning of the year. So I've been doing decent with the morning routine. But what about goals? YouTube goals? Have you guys set any YouTube goals? I'm wondering if we're gonna jump in here since I had this the wrong time. So let me know if you guys are on. Who's watching? Who wants a channel review? I apologize for this being set at the wrong dates. Even have a calendar right there and I still missed it. More memes. Hello, can you raid my channel? I don't raid any channels, but I can review a channel. I can give you advice on a channel. So I'm not really sure your question on that one. So I want to hear how everybody's doing here at the beginning of the year. I have been working on something behind the scenes that I am excited to share with you guys very soon. I think it's going to be exciting for you all to see what I have. If you know, I used to have a program called YouTube Bootcamp to help you grow your YouTube channel better for your business. I am not coming out with YouTube Bootcamp anymore. YouTube Bootcamp is officially done, but I got something new coming at the end of the month. So stick around, stay subscribed. If you're not on my email list, jump on there as well. And I can't wait to share. Hi, Cal. Hello. Hi. Hate. I know you gave me your short phrase on how to say your YouTube channel name, but I apologize. I forget again. Organize to save. Hi, you win. I can do a review on your channel today. I almost saw your name is Jen. Also, if you can jump in and let me know how to say your name again, I'm going to actually take a note of that this time because I know you told me last week and I totally forget I was saying earlier I would love for you guys to share. Do you have goals for YouTube channel this year and how's it going so far? How's it? We are halfway through January already. Are you getting consistency? I think one of the first goals should definitely be a goal to post consistently every single week. Or is your goal for more subscribers? Let me know how that is going. I am going to jump into Organize to save's channel review. But I also have this up today. I also have this up, the notes up. And so I'll be seeing what your goals are. I'm also open for one more volunteer. So anybody else want their channel review today? I know we're doing organized to save and one more play with purpose up to 2Ks. That is awesome. I am so proud of you. That is amazing. And eddie is approaching 1k on coding. Oh, my goodness. And Penguin and Pear dressmaking wants to be at 2000 by the end of the year. And she's currently wants to do 200 videos. That is awesome. I love your goals. No, wait, Moomoo is 200 videos. Penguin and Pear dressmaking just hit 500 subscribers. That is awesome. You guys are crushing me here. I love hearing this. So let's go ahead. And I'm going to do Organize to save channel review here. And then I am also going to do Penguin and Pear. So I. I do random generators here. And so Penguin and Pear got selected as one of the people on here. Daniela, I would love to review your channel. Unfortunately, I can't speak Portuguese, so I'm not sure how much help I would be specifically for you. I. I'm sorry, I only speak English, so I'm gonna go ahead and jump in to Lindsay. That's right, Lindsay. I'm so sorry. There's another organized channel that name is Jen. I apologize. It's getting the two mixed up. And so we are gonna do Lindsey's here and I want Penguin and Pear dressmaking. Let me know what your name is and you will be next. So I can't wait to check out your channel here. One second. I'm just pulling them up so when I flip my screen around, we can get to work. All right, guys. Hi, Amelia. Hi, Ebony. Hi, Jen. Hi, all of you that are popping in here, thank you so much. I'm so excited for you. So let me flip my screen around and let's get this review party started. Am I right? I'm trying to. There we go. All right. Sharing my screen. Make sure y' all can see what I'm seeing. And we're gonna do Lindsay's channel first here. I also have this up on another screen, so I'm going to double check to make sure I can see what I'm seeing. All right, Penguin and pair. Her name is Claire. Awesome. So excited to have all of you here. Alright, so Lindsay, I love your personality. I love that photo of you. Your designing is so cute. I love the little. Not good with shapes. I think It's a Pentagon 5 size. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. No, it's a 6. Not good at that. Time, money, space or to save. New video every Wednesday. All right, so I'm seeing that also as I go through here. Lindsay and anybody else, if you have questions about what I'm talking about, pop them in to the chat and I'll be answering them. I want this to be more of a conversation with us. So Lindsay, what I think I would focus on is maybe being a little more clear. So I like organized to save, maybe time, money, space, maybe having something under it like get your space organized with less money or get your space organized on a budget. Alright, so that's more clear on what you do. All right, so something like get your space organized on a budget, organized to save. All right. You see how that makes more of a proposed value for your channel than necessarily time, money, space. I think that would be great for you. Also make sure. Click to subscribe. I love that you're posting every Wednesday, you guys. My stance on frequency. I'm sorry, I had a hiccup. My stance on frequency is I suggest you do at least once a week. I'm really focused on quality of video as opposed to quantity. So I don't want you posting daily or two or three times a week if you can't post one really good video. So I like that Lindsay is being consistent with one video a week. Ebony says, I love Lindsey's photo too. Love her channel banner. She also is intrigued, but I'm not sure exactly what she does. She. Yes, exactly, Lindsay. I think that's a great advice. Know exactly what you're trying to organize and save for much more. Clear. Okay. Lindsay says also share tips on budgeting and productivity. Okay. So organize to save. Yeah, I would work with that. Organize to save, get organized, save time. Get organized, save, save time and money. Get organized, save time and money. How does that sound? Eddie says the banner is great. Maybe use a different profile picture to the banner. Yes, Eddie, I am so glad you pointed that out. I would definitely change either your icon or this photo just because you can see these are very repetitious and people just want to get to know more about you when they come to your homepage, your channel page. So. So maybe showing a little more of your personality here. Since if somebody clicked through, they obviously want to get to Know more about you. Whereas this is the photo that's going to be throughout YouTube. Like in your comment section when you comment on other people's videos. Let this video, that this photo show more of your. More of your personality. I'm sorry. I'm just now realizing my microphone is pretty far away from me. So I hope you guys are hearing me. All right. Gonna move that a little bit closer. Yes. She was wondering about changing that. Yeah, Lindsay, I would. I would definitely consider that. All right, so then Lindsay has her channel trailer perfect. I did not watch it, but I see it's under 1 minute perfect as well. Lindsay, I love that. I know you've been following me for a while, so you're probably taking some of my tips and suggestions. So I love that it's under a minute for sure. I think from what I can see, this setup looks great. One thing that I think might help your lighting just a little bit, if you could stick a light behind this chair and get rid of that shadow that I'm seeing from your chair. I'm not a perfect. I'm not a very good tech person. I'm not great with equipment. But I do know if you just stick a little light back here, not only would it take out that shadow, but it also give that, like, illuminating light from behind. Should your channel trailer be under a minute? Ideally, it should be under 90 seconds, max. All right. Your channel trailer really needs to describe to the person why they should be subscribing to your channel and not go on and on about. On and on about who you are. People don't care who you are if they're seeing your channel trailer. They just want to know what you're going to do for them. I'm so sorry that you guys can hear me now. I didn't realize the microphone was across the desk. Jen's beauty style says we can hear you. Awesome. Pete says hi from Australia. Hey, Pete. High life with Tuana. Her lighting, she can also move a little from the wall that make the shadow awesome. I love that you guys are helping each other. Perfect. So that's what I would do here. Maybe change the title also to what you can. What you're going to get from this channel or just really having a title there that lets people know what they're going to learn from this video instead of just a channel trailer. All right, now onto your thumbnail. So what I really like to look for, which is going to make or break your channel, is how eye catchy your thumbnails are and how catchy Your titles are. And Jen, for you only, having, what was it, 346 subscribers to get this amount of views on a video is amazing. You are doing something really good here, Jen. So what I would do is brighten these up a little bit so you can use something like PicMonkey. I like to use PicMonkey to edit my videos. I mean, edit my images. So I would go to PicMonkey and really bump up the exposure on these. So make them a little bit brighter, saturate them and make them sharper. That's just gonna make them pop a little bit more. And then potentially making these a little bit bigger. You really want these to stand out. That goes for all of these as well. Making them for how to start a budget. I don't want you to repeat the same text that you do here in the title. So how to start a budget that actually works. Maybe say something like finally save money. All right. And then how to start a budget that actually works. I think that would be a good idea. And this goes for all of you guys. I don't want you to just repeat the title in the thumbnail. That is not important. Actually, it probably will decrease your thumbnail click through rate, which you can find in your analytics. And that's something you should be looking at is your click through rate. The text here on your thumbnail should only support the title. Alright. So no need to report repeat. Let's see. I just started making my thumbnails this year. Awesome. Just started my channel. Okay, great tips on thumbnails. I'm glad you are liking it. Yeah, I think your color is great. I think like the text and the color stand out but there just needs to be less words. So for this, this could just be kitchen hacks. All right, I'm going to probably what I would do, Lindsay, now is you want to put single playlists here and these playlist titles should be more like video titles. So budgeting tips. I would potentially change this playlist to finally get your budget in order or finally know how to budget your money. That's more of a value teasing title than budgeting tips. You want to intrigue people. You want to give them a reason to click on that. And so for bathroom, maybe it's finally get your bathroom organized. All right. And house hacks, anything that you can put in there to really pitch the value of that playlist. Because you, you can pop these playlists in the cards and when people see the cards on your video, they need to be intrigued by that title. So just house hacks. Our bathroom isn't going to tease people to click on your playlist. All right, so definitely focus on some value proposed playlists and then have them featured here. So for example, let me show you mine. We go the best ways to grow a YouTube channel in 2020. So if that pops out in a card, people are like, that's me. I need to watch that or YouTube video ideas, how to start a YouTube channel. Another one of my clients, I just updated hers today. Where is she? Do I not have her on here? If I go to her channel, you can see what I just did today. I just updated her channel sections. All right, so if you go to her channel, you'll see how I use simplified planner to plan my life. Best advice to growing your creative small business honeybook Tutorial tips and hacks. Best productivity hacks to get more done in a day. How to write better email newsletters. How to use trello to organize your business and life. You see how these playlists aren't just categories, they're actually value proposed titles. Great ideas for playlists. Thank you. Ebony channel, right. Says you're so good at giving tips. Thank you, thank you. Life with Tawana says, this is so helpful. Awesome. I'm loving you guys. Feedback. Lindsay, these tips are awesome. Fantastic mumo for playlists. They can be secret. Way to grow your watch time, big time. When they click on the video from a playlist. Yes, that's exactly your playlist need to be bingeable series. Right? Ebony says, awesome. Your tips are so helpful. Okay, so Lindsay, that's where I get started here on the front of your page. Definitely building out this front page and highlighting your playlist. You want people to see what you're all about and just really focusing on these thumbnails. I think you're doing good. I think you can do better. All right, Lindsay, please feel free to ask me any questions. And we're going to jump over to Penguin and Pear. I think your name. Can you pop your name in there? Again, the comments went scrolling by and I'm not sure where your name was. Claire. Claire, I got you now. All right, so let's go over to Claire. Penguin and Pear dressmaking videos every week, recent makes and plans. All right, so Claire, first thing, I would focus on cleaning up this channel banner. There's a lot going on here. Penguin and Pear. Okay, yeah, I got your name. Thank you. There's a lot going on up here. And what happens is when you have too much going on in your channel banner, when you go to the mobile device or an iPad or even the laptop. It can change the sizes of this. So you need to keep it very simple. And you can see right here, your button is even covering this up, making it hard to read. You're doing great. I mean you have 500 subscribers. That is awesome for you. I love it. But I would clean this up a little bit and really let people know what they're going to get. Also all of these tasks, recent makes and plans, sew alongs, reviews, hashtag challenges. That is a lot. We want to focus on one thing. I think recent makes and plans and sew alongs fit great. Reviews could fit good if they are reviews for specific things to help you with this. But I don't think you need hashtag challenges. I don't think you should do them unless they relate to sewing and dressmaking. Hi Carmelita. Mumo. For those videos that did really well, the most likely thing may be the audience. You have loved it. You can do a follow up video to get more audience attention to that topic. Yep. Perfect. Thank you. Jen's beauty style work. But I couldn't miss this. I learn a lot from these reviews all. Thank you Jen. Awesome. So okay. So Jen, I mean Claire, that's what I would focus on. Clean this up just a little bit. Maybe you show one of your dresses that you made. I think if you could show more of your personality. This kind of. I like the cartoonish style but it's a lot. Definitely clean this up. Make it more streamlined so. So that people can really get a hint of who you are. People are saying this is frozen. I'm just trying to make sure this isn't frozen. I'm just going to double check real quick here. A hint of. Okay, I think we're good. If it froze. Go ahead and just. What's it called? Reload and see if it works. Hashtag videos are a sewing related and good because other sews do them too. And mention my channel. Perfect. But we don't need to mention it right here. I don't think you want to take up this real estate on your channel banner to say all of this. All right. You can definitely do that in your about section. Alright. So the next thing Claire is I would add a channel trailer like Claire hat. I mean like Lindsay had. I do give basically a channel trailer template over on my channel. If you just search Trina channel trailer template. I walk through all the critical steps for a channel trailer. Because what happens is when we come here for the first time, that video is going to play automatically and that's the best place to get people into your channel. All right. I like the color consistency. Yes. So I'm loving the branding. I see the pink and the pink. The one thing that you want to be careful of is make sure you're using the same pink on all thumbnails. Okay. So this pink is a little bit different from this pink. You want to pick one particular color and one way that you can make sure it's always the same color is I have this Google Chrome extension called the eyedropper. And all you need to do is get that. And if you pick pick color from webpage and we just take the mouse and we hovered over this pink. We hovered over this pink. You see down in the right hand corner, it's giving you a hex code. I think you guys can see it down there. It says F Number or C number 8 3C 8B. That is the color code number. So when you go to Canva or PicMonkey, you can pick the exact color in every single graphic that you make. So I would make sure you're picking the same colors for every single thumbnail. And that goes for all of you. Keep the color on your thumbnails consistent even if you have like three different colors. So I play a lot with the pink. I also have a blush colored as well. So keep the colors consistent and keep the text consistent. It looks like you're doing well with the consistency and text, so that's not a problem for you. It looks like again, I'm trying to get this eyedropper to stop dropping. Okay. No, go away. Eyedropper. Okay, we're down there. So for you also, I would create these playlists the same way that I told Lindsay. I'm gonna go to like, your most recent videos to give some feedback here with your thumbnails and your titles. Come on. Alright, so I see that vlogmas. You did vlogmas and you did it a different color. But see, the problem is if you, this video and this video were to show up and suggested and I'm watching your stuff and I love your stuff, this isn't going to tell me that this is a Claire video. Like there's blue and there's snowflakes. There's no indication that this is a Claire video. And so I'm nine times out of ten not gonna click it because I want to watch Claire. And this does not tell me Claire. This is telling me Claire. All right. But yeah, good job doing vlogmas. I see that you're just starting to get with these thumbnails so if this is something that you're going to do, stick with the colors like I said, because it looks like we're a little bit all over the place down here. Again, you can start to see why branding is so important because if any of these pop up, we were associating Claire. Everybody who was on here can probably say when we saw your homepage, we were associating Claire with bright pink. But where's the bright pink? Where. Where is the Claire that we thought? And so staying consistent with your branding is essential as well. For titles, let's. I've been trying lots of different things. I totally understand Claire when you're getting started, but you've got to pick one and just go with it. All right? You got to stay as consistent as possible so people can start to recognize you. On YouTube for titles, I would say instead of saying reviews and those types of things, what can you really help people with on these videos? So let's just say make nine plus my new make nine plus my new sewing challenge. Okay, so for this I would do something like my sewing challenge for you in 2019 or my serger and conversion machine journey. So instead of that saying why you need serger and cover this why you need this particular serger and cover stitch machine, we want to take it away from us. So with my. My travel through my. You want to start using verbiage. You, you want to speak to that person that's watching your videos. They don't care who you are, what you done. They want to know what you are going to do for them. So this goes again for all of you guys. A great tip is to put the word you in your titles. You'll see a much higher click through rate because people want to know what you're going to do for them. All right, so Claire, those are the first things that I would get started with. So I'm going to go ahead and flip around and and have a chat with you all. Hi guys. Okay, so I've been trying lots of different things. Yes. Jen says I do my thumbnails on my phone so it's a little hard to keep the colors the same. Jen get that color hex code number and that will definitely help. Also try apps like Canva. I think someone mentioned that Ebony, can you upload new consistent thumbnails after the video has been posted without messing anything up? Yep. You can totally change your thumbnails after your videos are posted. Don't change the tags and don't change the titles, but you can absolutely change thumbnails later. Play with purpose as I've used Picmonkey app on my phone. Awesome. Thank you Girl Moon says have you tried Canva? Yep. That's a great one. Thank you Eddie for answering Ebony Life with Twan A While. This is really great YouTube live. Oh thank you Claire. I hope that helps. If you have any questions please pop them in. Let me know how I can help help you. Ebony said, explaining what vlogmas is like with Twana I get the same color using Canva. I think I'm only going to be able to do two channels today because I do have a call in about 10 minutes so I do have to have a hard stop time here to jump on a call. Ebony says oh darn, you're not supposed to change titles. I would not change titles, I just stick with what you have. It could mess up some optimization things. So ideally don't change the title, you can change the thumbnails. Thank you Mumo. Claire says that's a big help. Thanks Also you know I'll be back here again next week. I'm pretty sure I'm on time next week. There's a day towards the end of the month that I have to switch the time on these lives, but I'm pretty sure I'm back here again next Wednesday at 1pm I'm just double checking my calendar. Wednesday, here we go, the 23rd. Yep, I'm back here again. Same time, same place. For channel reviews. I tend to do two sometimes if I have a free afternoon I'll do three. Eddie says I know it's a random selection. Lindsay says. Any tips on how to look into video analytics? I have one that just hit 1k and trying to figure out why it did so good. So organize to say what I would do. Look at the audience retention. Did you keep their attention a lot longer than the rest of your videos? Look at your click through rate. Was your click through rate a lot higher? So click through rate is back to how you titled and what your thumbnail looks like. And then your audience retention rate lets you know how well you opened that video. And then you can go to that video using a Google Chrome plugin like Tubebuddy or Vidiq and see where your videos are actually ranking. You can go into analytics for that particular video and look at traffic sources and see where the traffic is coming from. Is it coming from search or is it coming from a suggested video? Those are the places that I would look. So I would look at the click through rates. I would look at the audience Retention and look at the traffic sources for that particular video. So Eddie is actually kind of first come, first serve. Whoever pops in and volunteers gets in. Thank you so much. Life with Tuana this time is perfect also for me. Oh, awesome. You live in Italy. I love it. I hope I get the next review. I need a spool bad. Definitely going to try to log in for the next live review session. Awesome, Ebony. And don't forget to subscribe. And if you do hit that bell, it will tell you as soon as I go live. And so it'll give you like a little reminder that I go live so that you can get here ASAP and be one of the first ones to volunteer. So that could help you as well if you go ahead and hit that little notification. Okay, definitely. All right. Yeah, I have one video that got 12,000 views. That's awesome. Coupon, chica. I would do the same thing. Is it a phrase that you're ranking for? And if that video did so well, do another video. Do a follow up video. Maybe that video was a little bit older. Do an updated video. But if you're doing videos, if you have a video that's doing well, create another one. Create another one. All right. So for me, my one time saving video time blocking was doing well, so I did another one and I actually need to do another one. The first one did so well. Now the second one did so well, so I need to do the third ones to help keep the traffic going. I love these channel reviews and can always learn more. Thank you. Play with purpose, Ebony. Yep. All right. It was a Michael's clearance hall. Yeah, I would totally do another one. Then do another Michael clearance hall. I just did a dollar tree haul and it's doing really well too. I would need to do another one on my mom channel, but I gotta get to the dollar store and the weather is not helping me out because it's supposed to snow for the next couple. Good idea on creating another one as this organized save. Yeah. And if it's something that you could really expand on, really make it powerful by creating a playlist and putting like five or six videos into that. So people are binging, watching like five, six videos and accumulating multiple watch times. All right, you guys, if you got any questions, let me know. Also, if you go over to the Facebook group video for Biz crew, I have it linked down in this description box. So go over there. That's where you can catch me. We're gonna be doing some more things over in that Facebook group coming in the next couple of weeks as well. And it's kind of a great way to get an instant question answered from me. That's where I kind of am able to answer questions on a day to day basis and also stick around the end of this month. I got something really cool coming out that I think a lot of you, if you are loving these channel reviews, something that I have coming out at the end of the month is definitely something you may be interested in. So thank you all for being here. Jen, Ebony, Claire, Coupon, Chica, Wonder Pets and Aquariums, Eddie, Play With Purpose, Mumo, all of you that were in here, thank you so much for taking the time to spend some of your Wednesday with me and I will see you again next Wednesday. Bye guys.
