This tutorial comes highly requested from a lot of you. In today's video, I'm going to show you how to use YouTube Live and how you can use YouTube Live to host webinars, workshops and grow your channel. So stay tuned. Hey guys, my name is Trena. Welcome back to another episode of Just the Tips. If you are new here, make sure you click that subscribe button down below because I'm posting new videos every week to help you build a YouTube strategy for your business. So how many of you have tried out Facebook or Instagram Live? Let me know if you're doing it for your business down in the comments section below. I currently go live on Facebook and Instagram instantaneously and I also teach on YouTube Live. But the best part about YouTube Live is the videos are searchable. After you're done, you don't have to worry about it disappearing after 24 hours. And you don't have to worry about people actually following you on Facebook to watch your videos. So going live on YouTube is an amazing way to really build your following and get more access to more people. So let me jump on over to my computer and show you exactly how you can set up your first YouTube live broadcast. Make sure you stick to the end because I'm going to give you three tips on how to have a successful YouTube live.
To go live on YouTube, first you want to go up here to your creator studio and then from here you want to go to the live streaming option. And then it depends if you want to go live now or if you want to create an event. If you create an event, that means you can set up the live stream for a time in the future. So I'm going to walk you through how to do that. So you want to click events.
This is great if you're hosting like.
A webinar and you want to promote it, get people to sign up so that more people are watching it when you are live. This is a great option. So what you do when you're in events, you're going to go over here to the plus button to new Live event and then go ahead and fill out all this information just like you would for a normal YouTube video.
So what I want to make sure.
You do is give this a title. And you don't want just any title. You want to use the same process you would for a typical YouTube video. Research the keyword and phrase you want to use. Because this video also can get ranked in search results. And what's great is it can get ranked in search results while you're live, drawing even more people to your live tv. So go ahead and give it an optimized title. Fill out that description box and the tags the same way you would any other video in advance before you go live. One important thing that you can do that a lot of people don't think about is adding an opt in link here in your description box. So as you're live, or as somebody else is watching your video that's live, you can remind them to grab your free checklist or grab a worksheet that accompanies this training. Or what that does is gets people who might not have signed up for your event and may be finding you live or finding you later in search results over to your email address.
So they didn't sign up for your.
Event, but they want your worksheet. And to get that worksheet they need to get on your email list. This is a great way to start building your email list without having an official webinar or workshop. The next thing you want to do, depending on how you're going to handle this webinar or workshop, is do you want it to be unlisted or so that only the people that sign up get this link can watch?
Or do you want it public so.
While you're live, anybody can find it and anybody can watch it. What's great about it being public is YouTube is really pushing live video, just like Facebook pushes live video, so you get a boost in search engine optimization for live videos. So I always like to go public and so instead of having people sign up, I always have this additional link in my description box to get my opt in. Just make sure you don't have it on private, because if it's set on private, nobody's going to be able to watch that video. You need to have it unlisted if you want only the people who sign up to be able to watch it or public. If you don't care who watches it and you just really want to boost your views and your YouTube visibility, the next thing is just leave the type too quick because you're going to be using Google Hangouts perfectly fine. I do this all the time. Don't get into the custom. It's just more options and more confusing. Just set it as click. If you pick a date in the future, say tomorrow at 1, you can create event. Once your event is created, it now shows up here under the Events tab. And when you are ready to go live, all you have to do is click Start Hangouts on air and your camera will show up. So you can change your camera going by taking your cursor and going up. And there should be like an invite people button. So if you're doing a JV webinar and somebody else is hosting it with you, you can invite them. You can mute your microphone, you can actually turn off your camera just like that, simple. Then it'll be red, turn it back on and then you can go over to this gear icon and you can change the camera. So say you want the FaceTime camera. I prefer my web camera. You can also change your microphone and then you can just save whatever options you want. When you're officially ready to go live, so it's ready to go out to everybody, you, you're just going to hit this green button down here, start broadcast, and you're going to be live. If you want the specific link that you're live at, you can always go down here to this link down here in the corner. And you can also see how many viewers are on. As far as other options you can do while you're live. If you want to screen share, so you want to go through a presentation, you can click this green arrow right here. You can select your entire screen and then what you want to do is click Share. Then you want to click Present to everybody.
Then you can start screen sharing to everybody.
Whether it's your presentation, however you want to use it, that's how it's going to look.
Then whenever you're done, you can just.
Go down here to the bottom click Stop sharing, and now your screen is back to you. That's how you simply can go live on YouTube and host the webinar or just a Q and A or whatever.
It is you want to do on YouTube. The first tip I have for you is to have two screws screens ready. So while you're live, the screen that you're using is going to be taken up by you. And it's hard to really respond to comments in that specific screen. So what I do is I have a laptop set up on a chair right beside my desktop, which I'm going live on. You could also set up your phone or your iPad just so you can see comments on a separate screen and you don't have to worry about flipping back and forth. If you're teaching on slides slides or you're showing people through example on your computer have two screens. Tip number two is to research your video before you go live. You want to research your video so you can pick an optimized title, optimize tags and be able to fill out that description box. YouTube is really favoring live video, just like Facebook, and so it's giving it a boost in ranking. If you can fill out all those optimization elements, you can rank your videos while you're live to to get in front of a new audience. And then after you're live, the replay is also available to rank higher in YouTube as long as you're optimizing it. I'd also suggest that you create a thumbnail before you go live too. That way as soon as you're done with your live video, you can put that thumbnail up because you can't put that thumbnail up before you go live. And tip number three is to have.
An available opt in during your live.
I generally will host a workshop and I will have a checklist or a cheat sheet or some kind of worksheet that goes along with the workshop. While I'm teaching, I'm letting people know. Don't forget, if you didn't get your free worksheet, grab it down in the link in the description box. This gets the viewer onto my email list and then I can funnel them through a sales funnel or just nurture my relationship with them more through email. Because maybe they didn't subscribe to my YouTube channel, but I got them on my email list by providing this freebie. If you want to get your YouTube channel ready to host your first live, make sure you grab my YouTube channel checklist right here.
