Comedian Akaash Singh co-hosts the YouTube podcast Flagrant, where he and other comedians aim to have fun without worrying about what's offensive. The episode explores whether comedy was always his plan or an unexpected path.
All right everyone, welcome back to another episode. Today I have Akash Singh with us, so welcome to the show, man.
Yo, thank you for having me, man. Appreciate you.
Of course, grateful to have you on. Uh, so if you can, for those that don't know, can you start us off? Just tell us a little bit more about you and what you do.
Yeah, I am a stand-up comedian. I'm a pretty big asshole, and then I have a podcast with a few other just as big assholes called Flagrant. Uh, we do a show on YouTube and, um, we just try to— yeah, we just try to have fun and not worry too much about what's offensive or what's not, basically.
Before college, I guess, or when you were younger, is this what you saw yourself doing at all, or is it completely different? It was like a crazy dream.
I think I, in high school, some kid— I was in anatomy and physiology, and he would just see how, like, nuts I was, and he would always say, you know, obviously we're supposed to be doctors. Everybody in that class is, like, trying to be a doctor. He said, you're not going to be a doctor. You're going to, uh, you're going to be a stand-up comedian. I'm going to be your manager. I'm going to take 10% of whatever you make. And at the time, I was always like, nah, there's no way. It's not going to happen. But the idea kind of stuck there. And then that same kid in college made me do it. He was like, yo, we went to college like 2 hours away from each other. He was like, hey, there's an open mic here. You're going to do comedy. Get 5 minutes of material together. And that was the only way it was possible. He forced me to do it.
