In this Business Blast Podcast episode, host Tyler Wagner interviews radio host, bestselling author, and My Part founder Alison Donaghey. The conversation opens with a sponsor plug for Authors Unite, then moves into Donaghey’s personal story of being a single mother on welfare after her boyfriend’s death and how she chose to launch her own business rather than return to minimum‑wage work. She emphasizes the importance of "diving in" and taking action instead of over‑thinking. Donaghey describes her expertise as a cause‑and‑effect strategist who quickly identifies underlying business problems to craft corrective plans. Her core business advice is to "know who you are"—to stay connected to the original passion that drove one into entrepreneurship. When asked what she would tell her younger self, she urges greater bravery and thinking bigger, warning against self‑imposed limits. She defines the key to happiness as recognizing one’s inherent worthiness, framing humans as "miracles" whose worth is often undermined by societal messages. Donaghey recommends Warren Farrell’s The Myth of Male Power for its eye‑opening perspective on gender dynamics, and shares a favorite Dr. Seuss quote: "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind." The episode concludes with her directing listeners to her website dominothinking.com for contact and conversation.

All right everyone, welcome back to another episode of the Business Blast podcast. I'm your host Tyler Wagner. Today I have Allison Doneghey with us. She is a radio host, bestselling author, and founder of My Part. Through owning our choices, we find true freedom and empowerment. So welcome to the show.
Oh, thank you so much. I'm happy to be here.
Of course. Grateful to have you on. The first one I have for you, Allison, is what is the best story from your life that has an underlying valuable message?
Oh my goodness. Probably just— yeah, I was a single mom on welfare when my boyfriend died. And I was stuck. I didn't know what to do. I didn't want to go back to minimum wage jobs and So I started my own business and the most important lesson in that was, is to just dive in. Sitting around thinking about things doesn't work. You just gotta do the work to make it work.
And what is the most valuable piece of information we should know that's within your expertise or industry?
Oh, for my expertise, I would say I have an uncanny ability to just sort of get to the crux of a matter. So I do cause and effect strategy with businesses, and I am really good at seeing what the underlying problems are so that we can make a plan to correct them.
And what is your best piece of overall business advice? So not necessarily industry specific.
Uh, know who you are in your business. I think a lot of business owners have— are disconnected from the reason they got in business or the passion that pushes them forward, and then they don't push that through their entire business. So Yeah, I think that would be my, that would be my thing. Know who you are.
And if you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would that be?
Be braver. Go bigger. Go. Just don't, don't limit myself. So not have limited myself with my own limitations to just think bigger.
And then kind of going a little bit down a different path here. In your opinion, what is the key to happiness?
The key to happiness, I believe, is understanding our own worthiness. I think we lose track of our own worth because when we think about it, we are born miracles. Like, we should— like, it's freaky. A small sperm found a small egg and made us, and that makes us miracles, and that makes us inherently worthy. And then our parents, in trying to help us, tell us to be better, and our teachers who are trying to help us tell us to be quiet. And, and all along the way, we are told that we're just not good enough the way that we are. So I believe when we get in touch with our own worthiness, that is where happiness lies.
And what is the best book that you've read and what was the number one thing you learned from that?
Oh, my goodness. I would say probably most recently, the best book I read from, from my own personal growth would have been Warren Farrell's The Myth of Male Power. Really changed the way I looked at this whole gender difference in the world. And it really, it woke me up. I opened my eyes to a lot of things with that book.
And then what is the best quote and why that you like?
Oh, well, it's gonna have to be a Dr. Seuss because he is spectacular. And I would say, Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.
I love that one.
Yeah, he is a genius.
Well, thank you so much for coming on. The last one I have for you is, where is the best place for our audience to find you online?
The best place is dominothinking.com, and you can find my contact information there. I answer all of my emails, and I welcome all conversations.
