Her definition of happiness centers on finding satisfaction in activities you love without comparing yourself to others. Beverly cites the Princess Diaries series as her favorite book, noting the takeaway to be authentic and accept oneself. Alright everyone, welcome back to another episode of the Business Blast Podcast. I'm your host Tyler Wagner. Today I have Beverly Kwachi with us. She is a YouTuber and entertainment contributor for the site Black Girl Nerds where she provides entertainment junkies information on all things trendy, pop culture, and style. So welcome to the show.
Thank you. Glad to be here.
Of course. Grateful to have you here. We'll jump into the first one. The first question I have for you is, what is the best story from your life that has an underlying valuable message?
I guess for me, the best story of my life that has a valuable underlying message is definitely growing up in a struggling family. It took the longest time for my family to be able to grow and to be able to afford a home. So I lived in various apartments and I always had this kind of like defeated feeling that I was never going to go anywhere and I was always going to be stuck and stay where I am. And I guess the valuable message in that is just believing in yourself and just looking at the brighter side of things and kind of accepting your lifestyle. Yeah, maybe I might not have money or I might not have everything I want, but I'm not going to always be in that small bubble I was at the time anymore.
And what is the most valuable piece of information we should know that's within your expertise or industry?
I think the most valuable piece of information in my expertise is definitely keep writing. That's what I've always been told. Never put your pen down. Just continue to write anything that comes on your mind because one day that writing might end up somewhere big.
And what's your best piece of overall business advice? So not necessarily industry specific.
My best business advice is definitely to explore multiple fields. Don't put yourself in one place or one bubble. I always told staff and different employers who I had interviews with is that I had a wide range of communications experience. Because even though I knew that I wanted to pursue entertainment writing, I didn't always just stay in that. I made sure I did all things communication, writing, editing, broadcast.
And if you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would that be?
If I could give my younger self a piece of advice, I would definitely say to make sure you make sure I think ahead and be able to work hard because every step or everything that you do is basically a path to the future. So I want to make sure that I'm doing positive things so I'll be able to eventually get to the future that I want.
And in your opinion, what is the key to happiness?
In my opinion, the key to happiness is definitely Just being able to find satisfaction in your life by doing all things that you love and not comparing yourself to other people's success, but just being happy where you are.
And what is the best book that you've read and what was the number one thing you learned from that?
Oh, well, believe it or not, the best book I read is definitely The Princess Diaries series. I'm a huge fan of Meg Cabot. And the number one thing I learned from it was definitely to be yourself and be accepting of who you are because the protagonist definitely had that kind of low self-esteem, kind of like she wasn't self-actualized and believed in herself. So that was definitely what I learned from it, be accepting of who you are.
And what is your favorite quote and why?
My favorite quote, I guess I'll reference Meg Cabot again because she's my favorite author, is Save your rejections so that later when you are famous, you can show them to people and laugh. Because I know we've all been there. We've all tried to apply everywhere to big companies. And unfortunately, rejection is just a part of life. So I try not to use that to put me down, but know that I'll get to the top one day and I can look back at these companies that once rejected me.
Thank you so much for coming on. The last question I have for you before we let you go is where is the best place for people to find and connect with you online?
Well, the best place for people to find and connect with me online is definitely through my professional website at beverlyapuachi.com, or they can find me on LinkedIn or through my YouTube page, just leaving a comment.
Perfect. Thanks again for hopping on.
You're welcome. It's a pleasure being here.
