I was in Georgia and I completely accidentally, unknowingly strayed across the border. I crossed a river, a shallow river. It was only 10, 20 centimeters deep. I crossed a river and accidentally crossed into a tiny little corner of South Ossetia, which is a sort of breakaway republic, much like— and I accidentally crossed into a tiny little corner, a little sort of promontory of land, little finger that I just crossed the corner of. And the minute I crossed the river, I was arrested and then put through the court system there. I also got arrested by speedboats while kayaking down this river because the river briefly formed the border of Russia and Kazakhstan. And although I stayed— the river was 400 or 500 yards wide by this point. And although I stayed right up against the Russian border, that was deemed to be a border infraction.
I've been doing that all my life. I just didn't know it was a crime.
