Alright everyone, welcome back to another episode of the Business Blast Podcast. I'm your host Tyler Wagner. Today I have Colton Moffitt with us. He's an investor and strategic partnerships consultant. So welcome to the show, Colton.
Alright, thank you. It's good to be here.
Of course, thanks for joining us, man. We'll dive in. The first question I have for you, Colton, is what is the best story from your life that has an underlying valuable message?
Okay, you know, it's difficult to pick just one. So, you know, there was a time when I was basically learning a lot about NLP and those sorts of things and decided to give it a try. So I was running, went for a run down by the, you know, just train tracks on the waterline. And I have traditionally not been a very athletic guy, not very balanced. So I decided, okay, let's just give this a shot. Tried walking on the rails. Kept falling off after a few steps. You know, I'm that bad with balance. So I said, all right, I'm gonna look a little crazy, but I'm gonna give it a shot and try the, you know, kind of positive self-talk thing. So I kept telling myself, I'm balanced, I do not fall, I'm balanced, I do not fall, saying it out loud, looking like an absolute nut job. But before I knew it, I was actually moving along at a very swift pace, about 100 yards, when I finally told myself, like, I'm stepping off the rail now, so I could be sure that I didn't fall. And that really kind of inspired me to learning more about that, the power of positive self-talk and engaging all those different parts of your mind in focusing on a task. So that has actually been a great lesson for me in life.
And what's the most valuable piece of information we should know that's within your expertise or industry?
Sure. So I would say that, you know, this could either seem very obvious or completely counterintuitive, but The best time to sell your business is when it's booming. So don't wait until it's tangy or you lose interest. If you think there's growth potential, that's the time to sell it.
And what's your best piece of overall business advice? So not necessarily industry-specific.
Ask good questions and listen closely. Then ask even better questions and listen again.
And if you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would that be?
Be very careful whose advice you take.
Spanish. And in your opinion, what is the key to happiness?
Don't overthink it. It's best appreciated as a momentary state of being.
And what's the best book that you've read and what was the number one thing you learned from that?
This was another tough question, really hard to pick just one, but a recent standout was Progressive Partnerships by Cal and Lang. It's a very practical book that drove home the point that you can add Tremendous value to organizations and people's lives by making intentional introductions and connecting people to each other in meaningful ways.
And what's your favorite quote and why?
The beatings will continue until morale improves. Nobody really knows who said it first, but it's just a fun one for me when things just aren't really working out or going my way. It's an amusing reminder to roll with the punches and keep moving anyway.
Yes, man. Thank you so much for coming on. The last question I have for you before we let you go is where's the best place for people to find you online?
Just look up my name on LinkedIn, Colton Moffett.
Perfect, man. Thanks again. We appreciate you coming on.
Thanks, Tyler.
