Grishma Khodaria: Author And Art Critic | The Business Blast Podcast #899

Grishma Khodaria, a painter and art critic, credits a health crisis that led her to Ayurvedic treatment with teaching her to value her body. She argues authentic art comes from intuition, not mechanics, and that lasting businesses are built on trust and transparency. She links happiness to physical health: fresh food, exercise, and mindfulness.

She is an ICF coach and art critic and author at New York Art News. Which is ny-artnews.com. She is also a professional contemporary fine artist, master of fine art in painting, and runs her own painting business from the past 10 years now, and is also a researcher on neuroaesthetics. So welcome to the show.
Thank you so much, Tyler. I feel really great to be here.
Of course, we're grateful to have you here. So Grishma, the first one we got for you is what is the best story from your life that has an underlying valuable message?
Well, it's concerned with my health. I got to know the value of life when it happened, because, uh, like last year, it was the day when I was so sick and I was almost on the ground. And it was my decision to take a natural Ayurveda treatment. I never thought that it would work, but then I wanted to take only herbs because I avoid taking medicines. And then that day I realized the value of life. We don't really realize the existence of a human body in this world, but we are nowhere if we don't exist as a human body. We sometimes get so busy with our work that we tend to forget the importance of it. So the valuable message is that we should value our human body and also that Ayurveda has a tremendous power to heal our human body. That's what I realized.
Mm-hmm. Thanks for sharing that with us. So the next one is, what is the most valuable piece of information we should know that's within your expertise or industry?
Well, the most important thing I would say is be what you are. So as an author, I would say let your heart speak. And as an artist also, I would say that you have learned a lot. It's enough, it's like enough of learning now. Everyone should close their books and open up their heart because writing or painting is not a product produced from machines, but it's something which comes from the heart. And these are the intuitions gifted to special people. And you all are one of them. And as a coach, I would say that eat healthy, Stay healthy. Only then you would get motivated to work hard and achieve goals, because hard work and success follows.
And what is your best piece of overall business advice? So not necessarily industry specific.
All right, so being in business from past 10 years now, I would say that be true in your business. Business set on the ethics of trust, faith, and transparency continues till generations. It's not just a line to say, but I have practically examined the data of businesses which have been established since more than 50 years now.
And if you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would that be?
Well, the advice to younger self is first, respect, love, and care for your mom and dad. They know you more than you know yourself. Never forget your roots and your values. Keeping these things in mind, follow your dreams. When you have the values, respect, you have the positive energy, and it is going to sprinkle always on you as blessings from the entire universe, because it's your actions that make you what you are today.
And then, um, in your opinion, what is the key to happiness?
Happiness, uh, is again like health is the key to happiness for me because I feel that to achieve anything in life, it's our human body which we use to perform any kind of task. We should be thankful for this beautiful life which we have and the most fortunate time we are born into. What if the human body doesn't support? What if we are sick? It is not only the time we realize we can do nothing. A person can't work, like can't smile or can't even talk. So there's no existence without a human body. So that's what I feel, that human body is important for our happiness. And once we have a healthy mind— and we are what we eat, that's what I believe. So the way we live— so I would advise everyone to like start living fit, eating fresh, exercising. I think that is the only key for a healthy body and happy mind, body, and soul also. Mm-hmm.
Yeah, no, I agree. Then what is the best book that you've read? And what was the number one thing you learned from that?
The best book which I've read. Alright, so The Book of Nothing is like, it's based on the understanding of mind and consciousness. As I'm also a researcher of neuroaesthetics, I really liked that book. And one thing which I really learned from it was the nothingness. And the author talks about happiness and sadness, anger and love. This all comes from within. So these are all created by humans as we study brain. So I love that line. Yeah.
And then what is your favorite quote and why?
All right, my favorite quote is, uh, I believe hard work is the key to success and there are no shortcuts, no matter what technology comes in the world, but you have— one has to work hard no matter which generation we are born into, in technologies or old generations or new generations. Everyone has to work really, really hard to achieve their goals. Yeah.
I agree. Well, listen, thank you for coming on. I really appreciate it. The last one I got for you is where can our listeners best find you online?
