In this solo presentation, Tyler Wagner, founder of AuthorsUnite.com, explains the essential steps to achieve bestseller status. He identifies the four primary bestseller lists—Amazon, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and New York Times—highlighting that each list operates with its own algorithm but shares a common requirement: a large volume of sales within a short, concentrated time frame. Wagner defines this as “concentrated impact,” noting the specific windows for each list (e.g., a single day for Amazon, up to a week for USA Today and Wall Street Journal, and longer for New York Times audiobook list). He argues that authors must prioritize a focused launch strategy that drives many sales quickly, rather than scattered, long‑term sales. Wagner also mentions that his service, AuthorsUnite, can assist writers in orchestrating such launches to hit the major lists. The video concludes with a call to comment, visit authorsunite.com, and emphasizes that concentrated sales are the foundation for becoming a bestseller.

How to become a best-selling author. So my name is Tyler Wagner. I'm the founder of AuthorsUnite.com. And what I'm going to tell you in this video is how to become a best-selling author. Now there's a lot of like little tricks to this, but ultimately, and there's a lot of other lists, but ultimately there's— I'm gonna break it down for you here. Ultimately there's 4 major bestseller lists. There's Amazon, there's USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and the New York Times. So they all work differently, um, and there are other bestseller lists out there, but those are the 4 major ones. But collectively they do all have one thing in common. And again, there are tricks to this stuff. So for instance, the New York Times is different. Wall Street Journal, USA Today is different. Amazon is actually very consistent, but they— the one thing that they all have in common is that you need to get sales in a short period of time. So you need a lot of sales in a short period of time. I call it concentrated impact, so that your sales go up within— it could be a day time frame for it, like something like Amazon, or it could be like a week for something like USA Today, Wall Street Journal. And then for New York Times, again, like a week or even longer for the audiobook list. So These are the ways, like, and again, they're all different, but the foundation is sales in a short period of time. Okay, so that's ground one. So whenever you're doing a book launch and you want to become a bestseller on any list, okay, and there's caveats to this, right, for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, but especially for Amazon, we'll talk about Amazon right here. You want to get as many sales as possible in a short period of time. and then the algorithm will take over and you'll actually be able to hit number 1. So that's how you become a bestselling author.
