In this video, Tyler Wagner outlines a low‑cost, step‑by‑step method for expanding a pastry or dessert business. He advises starting locally by visiting nearby cafés and coffee shops—including major chains like Starbucks—and offering free samples to staff and customers. By securing small in‑store placements or trial runs, the baker can gather sales data and build demand. Once a foothold is established, the strategy shifts to contacting additional locations by zip code, scaling the operation first statewide and then nationally, all without significant upfront investment. Wagner emphasizes the importance of proactively asking for shelf space, leveraging successful local metrics, and using the Infinite Partnership System website for detailed guidance.

How to grow a pastry, like dessert type business. So basically here's what you would do. So say if you make like cupcakes, shortbread, pastries, croissants, like, you know, things like that. So, and obviously assuming that you're, you know, very good at making these sort of items. All you would do is first you would start locally and you would go to all of the like cafes. So like coffee shops and stuff like all around your local area. I'd even actually say like try Starbucks too. Like why not? You know, swing for the fences. I think, you know, Starbucks obviously has like, I think they're pretty set in what they sell at places. But at the end of the day, if you're like a local and like there's a Starbucks in your town and you bring them these amazing amazing desserts for free, right? Like, just let them try them for free, you know, the workers there, and then just be like, hey, maybe like a little space over here if you want to try to sell some of these. If people really start liking them, then I can, you know, provide you guys more. Who knows, like, they might actually give you a test run, but, you know, nobody ever asks. So I would recommend making the ask regardless. So Starbucks would be the big win, right? Because if you land that, then that store could tell like the people above them and then maybe it could actually start fleshing out and like going into other Starbucks all over the world. So, okay, but either way, so you'd start locally, so local cafes, right? So every town has like local cafes, start there. Those are going to be a lot easier, right? So it's like local business helping local business. So start there, give them free samples. If they sell and people like them and not even sell, Give them free samples to give to customers that buy coffee and stuff for free. And, and start there. And then people will start like enjoying your treats and liking them. And then they'll like ask, they'll start asking for them. Right. And then you can actually start to really grow in your local area. And then from there you can start hitting the phones, right? So you can start like branching out to zip codes. And be like, hey, in my local town, I got like 20 cafes that are all selling my stuff. Here's what the numbers look like. And then start to grow statewide and then start to grow nationally, right? And that would be, you know, really the easiest way to do it. No risk, no money involved. I mean, you could even call your local shops if you want to save on gas money and not drive or walk, you know, drive to them. And I just, I don't feel like many people are doing this.
