The conversation turns to his favorite business book, Don Miguel Ruiz’s The Four Agreements, highlighting the principle of responsibility as the ability to respond rather than play victim. Alright everyone, welcome back to the Business Blast Podcast. I'm with Jim Miller. He is with Wrecking Ball Inc., where they do aligned sales and they are a marketing agency helping B2B SaaS companies scale from the emerging stage to dominance as quickly as possible. Thanks for hopping on, Jim, and are you ready to go?
Yeah, Tyler, I'm excited to be here with you. Thanks for the invite.
Of course. Thanks for hopping on. So question number 1 is, what's your best piece of business advice?
Wow. I can't really say. I've been doing this for a long time. Best piece of advice is to take some time every day and look at your big goals and write them down. I think that's the best thing. It's always be focused on what it is you really want to do and be passionate every day, if you can, about getting the right things done. And working with the right people. I think that those are probably the best things that I've found. And when I don't do those things, it just falls apart.
Agreed, agreed. And what's the number one thing you do to increase your productivity?
Every day I try to disengage and spend some time either meditating or praying and just get in touch with The intelligence of the infinite intelligence that's available out there when you pray or when you meditate, I think that's probably the biggest thing that helps me keep focused and stay on task.
And what's your number one tip for increasing your physical health?
Nutrition. A little bit of exercise and eat the right things. Eat foods that are alive. And look at what you're putting in your body because you've got an amazing machine that God gave you, and taking care of it by feeding it well will serve you well too.
And maybe this goes along with that, but what's your number one tip for increasing your mental health? It might go along with your previous answer.
Yeah, it's definitely, you know, mental health. I think, you know, sometimes I I think I'm crazy for doing what I do because it's just so stressful sometimes. But yeah, being able to disengage and being— surrounding yourself with really good people as much as you can, positive people who are doing things with their life, that's a great thing to do to keep focused and keep motivated.
And in your opinion, what's the key to happiness?
Doing what you love and having a passion for every day, being able to do what you love to do. I think, you know, being— to me, being happy means it's an attitude. It's a decision that you make every day. And so taking that passion that you love to do and doing it and adding value to other people's lives. I think that's, for me, a key to happiness.
And if you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?
Think bigger. Think bigger. Think, you know, possibilities and get rid of the fear. Just eliminate the fear of the unknown and just go for your passion. Whatever it is.
What's the best business book you've read and what was the number one thing you learned from it?
I've read a ton of business books, and the one that comes to mind for me right now is a little one that I just read. It's called The Four Agreements.
Oh, that's a good one.
Have you read it?
Yeah, I've read that book.
Awesome. Yeah, I love this book. It's fantastic. So it's by Don Miguel Ruiz, and Definitely recommend it because it ties in with this idea of, you know, being true to yourself and being plugged into infinite intelligence and taking responsibility.
Mm-hmm. And I love— I don't know if it was from that book, but the word responsibility, somewhere I read it's like the ability to respond. And it's just like taking control of your life and not playing the victim. So I think it's a big thing when you can make that mental change.
Absolutely.
So we're down to 25 seconds. So the last question is, what's your favorite quote and why?
Favorite quote for me has always been, one of my heroes is Winston Churchill. Of course, he was, in World War II in charge of, um, the war effort for the UK and for England.
