Excited to be here, Tyler. Thanks.
Awesome, man. We're excited to have you, and we'll dive in. The first question I have for you, Jordan, is what's the best story from from your life that has an underlying valuable message?
Cool, so it was really the day that turned my life around. You know, I was a depressed, really depressed kid growing up. And you know, my mother and I, we were in the guidance counselor's office and we were discussing, you know, all the problems I was having, you know, grades and, you know, the depression and everything. And, you know, my mom said something interesting towards the end of the meeting. 'cause my grades were pretty bad. And she said, "Well, I know Jordan's a sponge, so I know he can do it. All he has to do is apply himself." And her saying that, her declaring that over my life made it true and it changed my life. It made me realize that I could learn everything, anything and everything I wanted to learn. And I applied that to school. I went from borderline B student to, B student towards the end of high school. I didn't think I was going to get into college anywhere. I thought I was going to go to community college. I ended up getting into all 5 colleges I applied to. I started applying it to personal development, reading all sorts of books like Awaken the Giant Within, which further revolutionized my entire life. I just kept reading, kept learning, kept growing. All because of my mother telling me that I was a sponge, that we could soak up anything. That is the, that's the lesson here. We can soak up, we can learn anything.
That's awesome, man. Thanks for sharing that story. And what's the most valuable piece of information that we should know that's within your expertise or industry?
Right. So as a, you know, as a coach, as an, as an author, a self-help author, You know, something that I think some people get this right, some people get it wrong. You know, a lot of self-help authors, they'll kind of say like, this is the right way to do it. You know, this is the way you have to live life. But that's just, I don't think that's fundamentally sound because, you know, there's never really one right way to live life. You know, it's never a one, life isn't one size fits all. People aren't one size fits all. You know, what's true for What's true for you, Tyler Wagner, might not be true for me. So it's really like the law of infinite truths. You know, anything can be true. It could be true for me, but it might not be true for you. But nevertheless, it can be true. So people got to understand, you know, any— anything can be true for, for anybody. There is not a one-size-fits-all You know, even in my book too, the first line, it's kind of funny, is, "I know nothing." I tell them right off the bat, I don't have the answers. Like, I just don't. I'll never have all the answers. And, you know, what's true for me might not be true for you, but if it is, fantastic.
Yes, man, I love that. I'll chime in real quick there. There's this guy, Alan Watts, that I watch a lot and/or listen to. He's like this self-help, like, guru guy. And, uh, he says this, he's like, the man who says he knows it all knows absolutely nothing, and the man who admits that he knows nothing actually knows it all. That's what he said.
No way, that's so— yeah, it's so funny, isn't it?
So dude, I'm all with you on this stuff, man. I love it. Um, so next one is, what's your best piece of overall business advice? So not necessarily industry specific, right?
Right. So it's going to be simple, but it is So, so important, and I struggle with this sometimes. Stay organized because, you know, if you're not organized, you're going to feel overwhelmed, scatterbrained. You're going to be, you know, you might even be in a suffering state where, you know, it's just about impossible to produce outstanding results in a suffering state. You produce outstanding results in a beautiful state. You can't have, you know, unorganized files, you know, having, you know, scattering your brain and, and, you know, drop— bringing your performance down. Like, that's just, that's just so silly, you know. Just organize your files, you know, uh, computer files. I'm, I'm recommending specifically because most of my, you know, you know, what I do is, is on the computer and online. But, you know, this applies to anything and everything. Just stay organized so that you can be in a beautiful state all day and produce outstanding results.
And if you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would that be?
Oh, for sure. Okay, um, so if I could— if I can go back and, and tell my younger self something, it would just be to trust the process. Um, you know, it's, it's all good. Everything, everything's going to turn out fine, and there's no sense in in stressing, you know, and it's not just because things did turn out fine. Like even things today, like I know, like, you know, little things, little things that would have, you know, totally ruined me before, destroyed me, you know, sapped my energy, dragged my performance down. Those little things, they don't bother me anymore. You know, I can trust the process. I can keep the faith knowing that everything's going to be all right. You know, I mean, in the grand scheme of the universe, I mean, there's— listen, there's 200 billion galaxies out there. You know, like, I don't matter that much. My problems really don't matter that much. So trust the process.
Yeah. So it might tie into the next question, but in your opinion, what's the key to happiness?
It does, actually. Yeah. It's funny you say that. So I'll get to that. Number one, though, is learning, learning, learning. You live to learn and grow to give, or at least I do. I say that all the time, live to learn, grow to give. That's my key to happiness. Maybe it is for you too, maybe it's not, I don't know. And then, so yeah, this is what I was hitting on earlier, a couple minutes ago, or a minute ago, the universal perspective. This is my second key to happiness. I refer to it as a universal perspective. You know, when you understand that there's 100 billion galaxies, but with advances in telescope technology, I was reading that, you know, within the next few years it's going to jump to like 200 million. But I honestly think that number could be infinite. It totally could. I mean, who knows? Who are we to know? I don't think we know anything. You know, and then the galaxy is supposedly 13.42 or 13.6 billion years old. You know, that could be— I mean, who are we to say that? I mean, this stuff we're figuring out based on science and these devices and mechanisms and methods that humans invented. You know, I mean, how accurate is that? I don't know. I mean, it's all just kind of arbitrary, honestly. So that could be infinite as well. And there's, you know, it'd take like 35,000 light years just to get across the Milky Way galaxy. And then there are stars that, I mean, these stars, when we look up in the sky, you know, the closest ones, we're seeing them 4 years in the past. And then, you know, the most, the farthest ones, I think it's something like 900, I think we're seeing 900,000 years in the past. So just, just looking at that, going out at night and looking up at the stars and just trying to wrap your head around that, getting that universal perspective, I think that is the key to happiness. One of the keys to happiness, or, you know, it's just It allows you to hold your ego very, very lightly. Yes. Nothing's too serious. And I say that, I mean, listen, I still do all that I can every day to produce outstanding results, but at the end of the day, it's not a big deal. It's all good. It's all gonna turn out okay. And in the grand scheme of the universe, We're not that relevant.
Yeah, we're on a spinning sphere hopping around. Yeah.
Oh my gosh, that's funny. It's— we think we know it all.
Have fun, jump a little bit.
You know what else too? Last thing, uh, last little key here, um, we're always going to have problems. You know, a lot of times people will think, oh, once I get rich, once I get this I get this, once I do that, oh, then I can be happy. Then everything will be perfect. But that's just not true. That's the beginning of delusion, thinking that your problems are going to go away, right? You know, the rich have problems, so do the poor. The ordinary people have problems, so do famous people. People that don't have abs have problems, and people that have abs have problems. I mean, You gotta be really careful when you have abs because anything can take them away. You eat a piece of pizza and it goes away the next day. So you got those kind of problems. You will always, always have problems. So if we can realize that, if we can understand that, I mean, I think that's key. It's a major key.
Yes, major key alert. Major key alert.
I was just gonna say that.
Dude, that's awesome. Uh, the next one I got for you, I'm excited for your answer on this one. Uh, what's the best book that you've read and what was the number one thing you learned from that?
Okay, okay, so this was one of the first that I read voluntarily. Um, it's Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins. You may have read it, I'm sure you know it. If not, um, this book completely changed my life. Uh, you know, just I've never been the same after reading that book. You know, it really taught me that I have considerable control over my life, that I'm really the captain of my ship and my results are my responsibility. You know, the only thing that should be on my list of excuses for not doing well, as Jim Rohn would say, is me. I am the only thing on that list. I'm responsible for my results. And that's what that book taught me, that I can create my reality.
And what's your favorite quote and why?
Okay, yeah, uh, so this one is by Dr. Seuss. I got, I got a lot of favorite books. I had, I, I got a tough time picking here. Um, I was thinking about some Albert Einstein stuff. I love him, but this one's Dr. Seuss. Uh, the more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go. And because reading and continual growth and development, and it's really the key to unlocking prosperities of all kinds.
Yeah, dude, love it. So much value in this episode. The last question I have for you, Jordan, is where's the best place for people to find you online?
Right. Okay. So I mean, I'm in all the— I'm in all the usual, usual places. If you just type in Jordan Parris on Instagram, I should come up. I've got two different accounts there, @j_parris_ and then just Jordan Parris. But then really what I'd like to, you know, I'd like people to check out actually this book that I'm launching on the 30th called Growth Mindset University. It's going to be awesome. Growth-mindset-book.com. You can find out Anything and everything you need to know about that book. You can, you know, if you want to be notified when that book comes out, you can fill out a little form there. It takes 2 seconds, but you'll get a really good idea of the book there. I think you'll get really excited too. I think you'll, I think you'll feel the excitement. And then of course, just my personal website is jordanparishhealth.com.
Awesome, brother. Thank you again. We really appreciate you coming on.
