She defines happiness as loving what you do alongside people you love, emphasizing active, shared experiences. Discussing her favorite book, Homo Deus by Yuval Noah Harari, she notes the importance of focusing on the choices you make amid abundant modern opportunities. All right everyone, welcome back to another episode of the Business Blast podcast. I'm your host Tyler Wagner. Today I have Kinga Gentetics with us. She is the CEO and founder of PublishDrive, which is a passionate Forbes 30 Under 30 to help authors sell more books globally with the best self-publishing experience. So welcome to the show.
Thanks, Tyler, for inviting.
Of course. Pumped to have you here, Kinga. We'll dive into the first one. The first question I have for you is, what is the best story from your life that has an underlying valuable message?
Yeah, I have a very personal story to share with you right now. So when my grandmother and my best friend's dad died, I felt very much devastated. I actually was on an exchange semester in Switzerland And I had a lot of troubles to deal with all these kind of personal stuff. And instead of pushing myself into a lethargic mood, I decided to make one of my oldest dreams come true during the summer. I went to a backpacking tour in Southeast Asia. And I understood that life will never wait for the right moment. So I decided to go for my dream, to act on it now. That was the best decision in my life, actually. I had so many new experiences. I made a lot of new friends as well, and I never forgot to tell all these kind of stories to my beloved ones as well. Hmm.
Thank you for sharing that with us as well. Um, the next one I have for you, Kinga, is what is the most valuable piece of information we should know that is within your expertise or industry?
Yeah. So as you mentioned, with PublishDrive, we are in the self-publishing scene. We actually make self-publishing easy and global where you as an author have much more flexibility and control over your books. And one of the things what actually makes people's minds blow usually, that you can at least have double your sales if you sell outside of the Amazon ecosystem as well. So this is usually shocking data, what I share, and I'm looking forward to seeing this kind of experiences in the future too.
Yeah. And what's your best piece of overall business advice? So not necessarily industry-specific.
What I always tell that, don't be afraid of asking or trying out something new to solve a problem. Because the no is already in your pocket and the worst thing can happen that you receive a big yes. So that is my life motto as well.
And if you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would that be?
There will be always people who do not believe in you, but don't give a damn about them. Start do your own thing you believe in so you can always be proud of yourself.
And in your opinion, what is the key to happiness?
To love what you do with the people you love. Um, in my experience, it does not matter if it is your job, your hobby, your part-time job, or any kind of project you are participating in, um, which makes you happy. Just make sure you collect those experiences with the people you enjoy time spending with.
And this will be a great one for you. What is the best book that you've read and what was the number one thing you learned from it?
Yeah, it's a very good question. Obviously I've read many books in my life, but what was a very good experience is the Homo Deus by Harari. And it made an enormous impact on my life. The number one thing what I've learned from it is that I have to focus on the choices I made. So there is a part in the book which says that even though we have so many opportunities in our modern life, many people lost their skill to focus on the one they choose. So I start every day with that in my mind, and I'm trying to make sure that both my personal and my professional life can actually have this value in common every day.
And what is your favorite quote and why?
Yeah, my favorite quote is by Einstein. Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving. And I like this quote a lot because first of all, I like riding bikes. So I'm a biker myself. But on the serious side, When I think about what the, what is the worst thing that can happen to me, it's always that if I would ever feel bored, that is the worst thing actually. So that's why I like hiking more than just lying on the beach. So, um, I, I try to make life experiences very much active all the time.
And I love that quote. Um, and thank you so much for coming on. Uh, the last question I have for you before we let you go is where is the best place for people to find you online?
Yeah, on my LinkedIn page, I have quite many followers and connections there and on my Twitter as well. So you just type my name in and you can find me.
Perfect. Thanks again for joining us. We appreciate it.
Thank you a lot. Bye-bye.
