Lyn Thomson: Body Talk Practitioner | The Business Blast Podcast #285

Lyn Thompson, a BodyTalk practitioner, was misdiagnosed with leukemia at 25, which she calls a "cosmic 2x4" that redirected her life. She believes pain and symptoms are the body communicating, not problems to medicate away. Her advice: delegate instead of doing everything yourself, and trust that uncertainty about your path will resolve.

Alright everyone, welcome back to another episode of the Business Blast podcast. I'm your host Tyler Wagner. Today I have Lynn Thompson with us. She is a BodyTalk Practitioner. So welcome to the show, Lynn.
Thanks for having me.
Of course, thanks for joining us, and we'll dive in. Lynn, the first question I have for you is, what is the best story from your life that has an underlying valuable message?
Um, I think the best story would be me being misdiagnosed with leukemia at 25, which I call kind of my cosmic 2x4 to the side of the head. It woke me up to the fact that I wasn't following the path that I was meant to follow and kind of shook me out of the fear that, um, like, I don't know what I wanted to do with my life, and, and helped me let go of holding on to a path that was just not right for me just because I didn't know what I wanted to do.
Thank you for sharing that with us. Um, the next one I have for you is, what is the most valuable piece of information we should know that's within your expertise or industry?
I think the most valuable piece of information is really when our bodies— when we experience things like pain and other physical symptoms, um, in our Western society, it's really easy to get caught up in being frustrated with the symptoms and really wanting to kind of just make them go away with something like a pill. And I like to encourage people to kind of reframe that and realize that your body doesn't have words. And so things like pain and symptoms are just your body's way of trying to communicate something to you and give you a message. And so when you start to work with it from that perspective, you can sometimes avoid needing to go down the rabbit hole of taking a whole bunch of medications.
And what is your best piece of overall business advice? So not necessarily industry specific.
I think probably making sure that you get support when you need support. When I first started my business, I, like many people probably, tried to wear all of the hats because you're starting out and you're on a budget and, you know, so you try and do all the things and figure everything out for yourself. And I've come to realize that sometimes you're doing yourself a big disservice because you don't really know how to do all of the things. You're good at what you're good at. So sometimes, you know, trying to find ways to hire out or find somebody who would trade with you for that service can be really valuable.
And if you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would that be?
Um, don't be afraid not to know what you want to do when you're a quote, grown up.
And in your opinion, what is the key to happiness?
I think the key to happiness is just finding ways to be really present in the moment and, you know, finding even the silver linings in difficult situations and just kind of being in your body, being present, because life is an amazing gift. So the more present we can be, the more happiness we can experience.
And what is the best book that you've read and what was the number one thing you learned from that?
Oh, there's so many, but what comes to mind is Bruce Lipton's book, The Biology of Belief. And in it, he talks about how our bodies really respond to everything that we think. So he talks about kind of all of the physiology of what happens in our bodies when we think things, whether that be negative thoughts or positive thoughts.
And what is your favorite quote and why?
Um, I think one of my favorite quotes is, the body doesn't lie. Because it really just sums up the fact that, you know, our minds can tell us stories and make up lies, and our bodies just tell us the truth of what's going on.
Yes. Thank you so much for coming on. The last question I have for you before we let you go is, where's the best place for people to find you online?
Sure, the best place is to find my website, which is bodytalkportland.com.
Perfect. Thanks again. We really appreciate you coming on.
Thanks for having me.
