All right everyone, welcome back to another episode of the Business Blast podcast. I'm your host Tyler Wagner. Today I have Michelle Beatty with us. She is a career podcaster, author, and coach. So welcome to the show, Michelle.
Thank you, Tyler. I'm excited to be with you.
Of course, excited to have you on. Uh, we'll dive into the first one. So the first question I have for you, Michelle, is what is the best story from your life that has an underlying valuable message?
For me, it was when I was laid off from my— the role that I love the most. And when I was working— when I'm working 9 to 5, it was working career services, and I lost my role due to workforce reduction. And it was just— and the school later closed. But for me, it was like, what am I going to do now? Like, this is like— this is my dream job. I love helping people evolve to their professional best. And I had recently started a my blog called Career Tipper. And I was like, well, do I— I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep going. Like, I had this true reflection moment of what next. And it was like, you know, practicing what I preach in regards to being career confident, in regards to pursuing your authentic dreams. So of course, after reflection, I was— it was a resounding yes to move forward with Career Tipper. And through those efforts, I have been able to design the life that I want for myself, the professional experiences that I want for myself. And so for me, it was game-changing. And it's the best, best turning point that I use to share with people that you can turn any situation around and make it the best moment of your life to catapult you to do what you want to really do.
I love that. And the next one I have for you is what is the most valuable piece of information we should know that's within your expertise or industry?
Well, I help people, you know, with their career journey. And so one key aspect of that is professional development. So for me, I view— I want everyone to view themselves as a continued work in progress. That's like the key when you are pursuing whatever it is you want to do, whether you're a novice or a seasoned professional, a budding entrepreneur, wherever you stand in making your impact in the world, building the personal legacy you want, you have to honor the truth that you're a continued work in progress. So evolving to your next level professional best, that requires you to be a continual student, learning, evaluating, you know, observing yourself and your surroundings to make sure you are steadfast to the path that you need to be on.
And what's your best piece of overall business advice? So not necessarily industry specific.
Position yourself as a strong contributor and speak in solutions.
And if you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would that be?
Hands down, master self-discipline continually. It's the root of your ongoing success.
And in your opinion, what's the key to happiness?
Being authentically true to yourself and deeply committed to experiencing your dreams and goals.
And what is the best book that you've read and what was the number one thing you learned from that?
It's a book I'm currently reading now because it's a perfect fit for where I am, and it's called The Four Disciplines of Execution by Chris McKenzie, Sean Covey, and Jim Huling. And it's a great read in regards to identifying how to execute the most critical strategy in the midst of a whirlwind of every day. So focusing on what matters, like one or two specific goals and making that the wildly important goal and mastering that through execution.
And what is your favorite quote and why?
Everyone you will ever meet knows something that you don't know by Bill Nye. And that is content just to be open to try something new. You never know if someone's going to introduce you to, to a resource, a colleague, or your next opportunity you've been looking for yourself that you can connect to. You never know what someone's going to connect you to, to make your life more whole and at peace and living your best life.
Yes, I love it. Thank you so much for coming on, Michelle. The last question I have for you before we let you go is where's the best place for people to find you online?
CareerTipper.com, on Instagram @CareerTipper, Facebook Career Tipper, and also Twitter @CareerTipper1.
Perfect. Love it. Thanks again, Michelle.
Thank you.
