¡Hola! ¿Cómo estás?
All right, everyone. Welcome back to another episode of the Business Blast podcast. I'm your host, Tyler Wagner. Today I have Mitch Pirtle with us. He's a serial entrepreneur and open source guy. So welcome to the show, Mitch.
Thank you.
Of course. Thanks for joining us. We'll dive in. The first question I have for you, Mitch, is what's the best story from your life that has an underlying valuable message?
Wow. So the shortest way I can answer that question is I got involved in an open source project that really took off. It's called Joomla. It's a content management system. It runs— it's a ridiculous number of websites, like 150 million websites, whatever. I joined this project, and watching this become such a huge thing and being part of such a huge community was really humbling. And I think that's the most important part, is that you can't do anything really great on your own. You need, you need support, you need people around you, you need to be part of something bigger than one person.
And what's the most valuable piece of information we should know that's within your expertise or industry?
I think it's about finding value in information, right? You have to ignore all the noise that's out there and find, find what's, what's relevant, what's, what's current.
And what's your best piece of overall business advice, and not necessarily industry specific?
Yeah, you know, I think every industry has been touched by this, right? The move to digitizing everything and going online and social and everything else. It's changed all the rules. So whatever, you know, whatever we've all been taught is probably no longer optimal, right? It's changing every day.
So, um, and if you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would that be?
I would say that the future is all about information. Don't, don't listen to everyone. Qualify who you get your information from, who you get your advice from.
And in your opinion, what's the key to happiness? Wow.
Happiness? Well, okay, in my opinion, the key to happiness is knowing that it's you. You are happiness because you make a conscious decision to be happy or you make a conscious decision to be unhappy and that it can't come from the outside. It's a state of mind, not a response.
And what's the best book that you've read and what's the number one thing you learned from that?
Actually, that's actually the reason for my previous answer. The book is called 365 Days of Happiness. By Jacqueline Pirtle, also known as Freaky Healer. It's a fantastic book that teaches you how to make yourself deliberately happy, mindfully happy, and not just randomly happy.
And what's your favorite quote and why?
This is an unknown one. It's from Albert Einstein. He said, "Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by the age of 18," which really highlights how important getting over bias is for all of us to really become enlightened.
Yeah, that's huge, man. Thanks for sharing that. The last question I have for you before we let you go is, where's the best place for people to find you online?
Well, I'm an active public speaker, contributor, open source projects and startups. You can find me anywhere on Google, Mitchitized on Twitter, busy on LinkedIn as well.
Okay, great. Thanks again for coming on, man. We appreciate it.
