Alright everyone, welcome back to another episode of the Business Blast podcast. I'm your host Tyler Wagner. Today I have Pace Clinkscales with us. He's a children's book author, so welcome to the show, Pace.
Thanks for having me, Tyler.
Of course, thanks for joining us. We'll dive in. The first question I have for you, Pace, is what's the best story from your life that has an underlying valuable message?
Well, I got my degree in audio engineering, recording arts down in Florida. I did my internships with Quincy Jones Music Publishing out in LA and did that 2 summers and moved out to Los Angeles to go work in the music business after college. I had an old boss that was at Quincy Jones, was at Warner Music Group, and I wanted to work in A&R, so I moved to California. 3 months after I got out there, Napster collapsed the music industry, so the job fell through, and, and, uh, had to figure out what to do next. So I got into live events being used and got into movies. In 2008, I had a movie in Sundance and one in Cannes. Nice. And yeah, thanks, man. And it was an exciting time. And then in 2009, beginning of 2009, my mom passed. So, uh, we had to get rid of everything out in LA and come back. And took me about a year to get my dad married off. And then, then I was down in South Florida, then I came up to Georgia. It took me about 5 years to get my brother married off. He's happily married with a kid and stuff now. So I decided to revisit creation and started writing books. Um, basically, Harry, everybody was telling me you should write all about autobiography about your life, you know. So I wrote one, it just came out as a kid's book, you know.
So, wow, that's sick, that's awesome. That— so your autobiography is a children's book?
That's like—
yeah, the children's book.
Yeah, it's a story of long suffering. Yeah, man. Oh, the grit.
Yeah, awesome. So sorry I cut you off a little bit. Did you want to share like the underlying message just to finish answering that question? I apologize.
Yeah. Oh yeah, I was just saying it's a story of Harry the Hairy Fairy, the story of long-suffering, the story of grit, you know, sticking with it.
Absolutely. And, uh, so later in the podcast then when I'll ask you the question, but we definitely want to link that in the description. I'm very excited to check it out myself. I've never really heard of like an autobiography in like children's book form. That's like really unique to me. So, um, I'm really excited to check it out. Um, the next question I have for you is, what's the most valuable piece of information we should know that's within your expertise or industry?
Uh, most valuable piece of information is, is keep falling on your face till you get there. That's— if you, if you always fall on your face eventually get there. If you always get knocked on your butt, you're never gonna get there. So keep getting up, keep falling on your face till you get there.
And what's your best piece of overall business advice? So not necessarily industry specific.
Trust yourself. Yeah, everybody's gonna— opinions are like belly buttons, everybody's got one.
Trust yourself. Yeah. And if you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would that be?
Younger piece of advice? Trust, same piece of advice, trust yourself, follow the path, follow the plan, you know, don't, no fear, you know, eventually you'll get there.
And in your opinion, what's the key to happiness?
In my opinion, what's the key to happiness? Following your path. Gotcha.
Okay, so this is really unique. So it's like for all three of these questions, like they're in alignment with each other. So that's very cool. Yeah. And, you know, obviously, besides your your own, what's the best book that you've read and what was the number one thing you learned from it?
That's it. I mean, the best book I read, read Bible. But I mean, as far as what you're going to get on the store, get out of the stores, is probably Dale Carnegie's How to Make Friends and Influence People. So both of them, both of them have valuable lessons learned. And that's, I would say those are my two tops.
And if you were to say like, uh, what, what was like one of the best things you've learned from How to Win Friends and Influence People?
Uh, specialization. Trust, trust other people that are good at their job, you know. Don't be good at everything. Be good at what you're good at and, and, and allow other people to be, other people to be good at what they're good at, you know. That's, that's probably the best piece of advice.
And what's your favorite quote and why?
What is your favorite quote and why? Favorite quote is, "People playing, God laughs." And that goes— that's my favorite quote.
I love that quote. Yeah, I don't even know if you need to explain why. I think we got it. Very cool, man. Well, listen, it was awesome having you on the show. I really enjoyed it. I know it's short, but I really enjoyed having you on. And the last question I have for you before we let you go is, where's the best place for people to find you online? And then also the book. HarryTheFairy.com. Perfect. Thanks again, man. We really appreciate you coming on.
