Tyler Wagner uses jumping into cold water as a metaphor for how we catastrophize future events. The fear is worse than the actual experience. Once you're in, it's fine, and that pattern holds for most decisions if you stop imagining worst-case scenarios and just act.

Hi, my name is Tyler Wagner. I am the founder of AllFreeGinate.com. What this video is about is why you're afraid to jump in cold water, which we have right here, very refreshing cold water right behind us. And what I want to talk about again in this video is why you're afraid to jump in it. 'Cause this is something I realized about my own life. So the fact that it came up in my own life, chances are it's come up in some other people's lives. So the fact that you're afraid to jump in cold water is because you're thinking about the future, the feeling of the cold of the water that's going to hit your skin in the future, and that's why you're afraid. But the interesting thing is, is that once you actually jump into the water and you feel the coldness of it, sure, there might be like a sting or whatever the feeling is, But you are okay always, right? I mean, unless you're like at an ice skating rink and you jump in the freezing cold water and stay there, then hypothermia or something like that could happen. But let's just talk about cold water in a normal pool right now. Like, the thing is, is that it's— this comes out in all other aspects of your life. Like, you're afraid to do things because you're afraid of what the future could be. But the thing is, is that once that future happens, it's never what you really thought it was going to be. Like what you were afraid of, and we'll go back to the pool, when you jump into the pool and you're afraid of that cold water, once you're in there, you're okay, right? So this should be something to reflect upon, and that's why I wanted to shoot this video, something to reflect upon in all aspects of your life. How many things in your life are you holding back because you're afraid of what the future is gonna be? But in reality, future isn't even real, right? The only thing that's real is this moment right here, this present moment of you watching this video, and everything's okay right now. So chances are if you jump into the cold pool, everything's gonna be okay then as well, okay? So jump into the pool, do whatever you wanna do, And I'll talk to you soon.
