The Mindset Shift That Saved My Time

Vicky Samios left dentistry to coach and build a business, arguing that prestige follows passion, not the other way around. She built a 100-day fitness program combining nutrition, psychology, and accountability, and says the real shift is choosing daily action over procrastination and surrounding yourself with people who share your values.

Once you swipe that ego part out of the way, you get to realize who you truly want to be and who you want to serve or help and who you want around you and what community you want to create and be a part of. Prestige, okay, comes after passion. Your passion is what's going to lead the way for you, and many of you are not following your passions, which is quite sad. I was on that boat too. I forgot all my passions. Now I've been diving in and I've had the time and I've given myself the opportunity now that I'm not chairside to investigate and go, oh my gosh, these are my gifts. I really love doing this and I really want to pass these on and leave a legacy. This is where my Greek dancing comes in. I want to help people be fit. I wasn't fit 8 or 9 months ago. I was angry, miserable, unhappy, really uncomfortable in my own skin, and just, I was comparing myself against people. I'm like, "Oh." And I'm not better than anyone, but I chose to put myself first. And I need you to do that too, because you are making up excuses and telling yourself that, "Oh, there's not enough time." You know what? I found the time to walk to the gym. Okay. I made sure that where I live, I'm near some gyms and I have a selection. I'm near some shops. So on my way home, I went and bought some meat and groceries and brought them home, which then doubled up as weights on the way home to build these beautiful muscles that I'm starting to get. How cool is that, right? I've been— I'm the fittest I've ever been, and I want you to be the same. And you can't do it in 28 days. You can't do it in 46 days. You need 100 days. We need to spend 100 days together. If you want to get fit, I have my fitness program, 100 Days to Change Everything. And we talk about everything from nutrition to the way you're living to decisions you're making to your, your psychology to what you need to do, what tests you need to do, who you need to see, who you need on your side, and how you're sabotaging yourself. Because at the end of the day, you don't love yourself enough. At the end of the day, you're so unhappy you've forgotten how to have joy. You're somewhere along that journey right now, a lot of you. As you start to fix one thing, you realize, oh, the next thing I want to fix in my life is this, and the next thing is this. And then as you link these chains up, your life starts to become completely different to what it was. And when you look back along that chain, you go, oh my gosh, I've come such a far way. I've come such a long way. Look at me now. Look at me now. You guys have seen all my transition and my transformation to this identity of me where I was stuck being Vicky the dentist, then Vicky the coach, and now Vicky, you know what, I'm an entrepreneur. I'm doing a lot of different things. I'm not going to hide parts of me anymore. I'm not going to be silent. I'm gonna say what I believe, and if that puts people offside, so be it. They're not my people. And you'll be the same. So if you're investigating this online space, you're not gonna make everyone happy. You don't want to have everyone in your pool of people. You wanna attract your people who believe what you believe and who want to learn off your wisdom and off your experience. And the same goes with friendship groups. If your friends are sabotaging you or living life in a different way to what you believe in, you need to let them go. Values. It all comes down to values. Because right now, you, many of you are living unconsciously by default. You're just living based on what has always worked, and you're stuck in probably 20 years ago. And you're wondering why things don't feel right because you've changed. You just haven't allowed yourself the permission to make other changes to lead you more towards who you are and who you're becoming. And there's a huge danger in postponing things. What you can do today, do today. Don't leave them for tomorrow. That's been my motto for years. If I can do something today, I'm going to get it done. If Even if I've gotta push myself a little bit extra. Because tomorrow there'll be new opportunities and there will be other things that will take priority. And you probably, if you're a list person, you make some lists and you put things down on paper and then the next day you don't even look at the list from the day before, even though you know you've gotta choose the top 3, what happens to everything else? They get bumped up, does your list get longer? Then you get overwhelmed and you do nothing. Then you wonder why you're not happy and what's really going on. I need you to be conscious thinkers, conscious decision makers, and consciously set yourself up in a way that is going to allow you to succeed and to look within and to trust yourself, number one, and to go on a path that is unique to you rather than what was told to you or what was, or what's on the platter right now. Because right now you can only see 5 things when really there's another 5,000 things and options that you could be taking. So any decision I make, I do pray a lot. I pray to God, I pray for my children. Peter prays over me, I pray over him in the evening. We pray a lot, we read the Bible every day. There's a lot of lessons in everything. You need an anchor. So what is your anchor? Because who you want to be is based on what you are absorbing right now. Just like kids, kids absorb a lot of things. What are your kids absorbing? Your kids absorb the way you talk to each other. Your kids absorb the way that you're working. Okay, I took my work ethic from my parents and everyone else around me. My cousins, they went to university. I went to university. We all did very similar degrees, like 3 or 4 different degrees, and we all just did same. You tend to copy those around you, so who are you hanging around? Make new friends, mingle with families with the same belief systems, and just don't involve yourself with politics and things, okay? If, if a school is political, I'm out. I just want my kids to be happy kids. I want them to be kids. And I want to find their gifts in amongst their daily activities, which is what we've been doing. We are out of the house every single day right now. It's multiple times a day, not just once. The old me was way too tired to even spend time on the weekend with my children because I gave everything— my heart, soul, my life— to my businesses. And I was angry at myself. And I decided I needed to make a shift. And the shift was to start taking care of me first in order for legacy to come in. And that's the recipe. I'm giving you the recipe. I'm not saying go and get a six-pack, okay? You can if you want. My goal is that. I'll get it one day, okay? I've got a lot of loose skin from my big bellies, from my big babies. Who are you becoming daily? Who are you not proud of and who do you need to leave behind? Because we've all got different personalities, so which personality do you need to leave behind? The ordinary moments are the ones where legacy is built. Time playing board games with your kids, time to take them out to the Botanic Gardens and do a lantern-making class like we did.
