Listen, Veronique, she empowers women to heal and prevent breast cancer naturally. You heard me right. She empowers women to heal and prevent it naturally. And she's been on quite a journey herself. She's got a lot of great information to share and I'm so excited to dive into this conversation with you today. Thank you for being here.
Thank you so much for sharing my message of hope. Jill. I'm really, really excited about this.
Yes. Ok. So first and foremost, that's a big thing that do. It's a big vision. It's a big thing that you've tackled, you're encountering. Take us back. Why that topic? I'm assuming you weren't a little girl saying, this is what I want to do when I grow up.
No, it's not. Certainly something that I would have picked, that's for sure. But I'm a chiropractor by profession. I'd been in practice for about 25 years and I was in the shower, was doing a breast self exam as I typically did because my mom had breast cancer and bam. Felt that lump in my left breast that changed the course of my life, you know, professionally and personally forever. And I knew that I wanted to have a Healing journey. That was definitely more evidence based with natural medicine because I'd seen what traditional medicine did to people. It's not to say that you can't use it and still be successful, but for me, natural medicine was more important and that's what I did. So I dove in and I really had to ask myself, how could somebody like me develop breast cancer? I thought I was doing everything right. I mean, I exercised, I was a runner, you know, still am, and, you know, was a chiropractor, supplementation, breastfed my children, home births, you know, you name it, I did it. And yet I ended up with that lump in my left breast.
So take me back a little bit on that because first and foremost, I think a lot of women listening and I'm definitely guilty of this. We don't do like the regular self exam. We think it's not happening to me. It doesn't happen to me. So was it an accident you found it? Was it. Were you. Did you know what you were looking for? And you did this regularly? Can you speak into that first?
Yeah, I did. I did regular exams because of the fact that my mom, you know, had breast cancer and I wanted to stay on top of it and I had very fibrocystic breasts, you know, and nobody's ever taught us how to do a breast exam. Right. But I just felt that it was important and, you know, bam found it and I'm glad I did.
So when you found the lump, was it one of those questionable things like, this can't be right, this isn't it. And how did you then go to confirm that that's what it was?
Well, it was one of those gut feelings, you know, where you're, you know, my stomach dropped. I just innately knew this did not feel right. And, you know, as far as confirmation, I mean, I did a lot of things outside of traditional medicine. You know, I never had a mammogram, I did not get a biopsy. So. But I used, you know, different kinds of blood tests and different kinds of testing that showed that there was definitely the presence of breast cancer.
My gosh. Now, did you know anything about the stages or what that meant at the time and what were you told?
No, you know, for me it wasn't important because I knew that no matter what, I had to get to the root cause. Cancer is cancer. And so whether it's, er, positive, PR positive or negative or, you know, I just knew that I had to approach it and be very diligent and, you know, dive into my health on all Aspects, Yeah.
Now, when you were discovering this, did you have doctors or other people in traditional medicine telling you to go a different route?
Well, the medical doctors that I worked with were actually outside of traditional medicine. You know, one of them actually had his license revoked because he was helping sick people get well outside of traditional medicine.
So isn't that amazing that you can get your license revoked for trying to be natural and do that?
Yeah. Yeah, he was great. You know, he really helped me a lot, gave me a lot of direction and guidance. And, of course, with my training and my background and what I was doing in my practice, I knew what I needed to do.
Did you want the lump removed? Did that come into play?
It did now. You know, the first. So I've had two. Two cancer journeys. So the first One was in 2004. And at the time, I did something that was very radical. I used something called black salve. It has blood root in it, and the nutrient, or the phytonutrient in the. In the black salve is called sanguinarine, and it literally attacks and kills cancer cells only, so you can use it for superficial cancers and breast tumors, that sort of thing. I really didn't know what I was doing, and so that was the big mistake. But I'd learned through the process, and I had a couple of doctors that were helping me through the process who were familiar with it, and I photographed the whole thing, and lump the size of a golf ball literally fell out of my breasts.
Wait a minute. So take me back a little, because I know people listening at me included, is like, wait, what do you mean it fell out of your breast? Was this something you were putting on it, this black salve?
So it's a salve that you put on the breast. And of course, depending on the size of the tumor. And this is not something I recommend. Just, you know, caveat.
Yes. No, I just want to take you through this story and the journey. Yeah. I'm curious about all this. The journey.
And I, you know, I photographed it. So there's proof that literally what happens is that the, you know, the nutrients and the blood root kill. Attack only the cancer cells, and then your body expels it because it's necrotic dead tissue.
And where does it get expelled from? Like, where does it come out of?
Creates. Creates a hole, like an open wound.
It's making, like, a wound there.
Right. So it's separate from the rest of the breast, and then the wound.
Okay, so I can see why that would be seriously controversial. A lot of A lot of concerns there. Okay, so you did that, but you don't recommend that. So this comes out. So then, then what was the next step? And you mentioned you had another bout with this.
Well, fast forward nine years later, and by this time, I was known as the breast cancer conqueror. My team and I were coaching women all over the globe, you know, 43 countries. So we were very busy working from sun up to sundown. And, you know, I was just taking on this breast cancer energy all the time. You know, seven, well, not seven days a week, but, you know, sometimes six days a week. And I ignored what my body was trying to tell me. I was exhausted, I was stressed, I was, you know, emotional, and I neglected my health. And I created the perfect storm for cancer to show up again. So this time I did things very differently. And fast forward nine years, I mean, 2015. So there was a lot of newer tools, new technology, new science that I was able to use, and I did things quite differently.
Okay, so when this first happened, when you first found out you had breast cancer and you first found this lump, talk to me about your mindset. Did you go into being frightened? Scared? Did you go into self doubt? Did you go into this is going to be out of my body. Like, I'm curious about the path in your mind that you took around that.
So initially, yes, there was the shock. You know, I mean, what's the first thing, when you say cancer, what's the first thing you think of? Right. Is slow, torture, death. Right.
You think of, and you think of traditional, like chemotherapy, radiation. We think of someone we know lost hair, looking sick, all of it.
Right, right. People end up dying from cancer. So yes, initially it's like, wow, it was something that I really had to mull over. But. And this is what I tell our clients all the time. You know, when it comes to breast cancer, it's rarely a life threatening situation. So you have time to breathe, to get settled, to, you know, to meditate, to pray on it and to really start getting some clarity. And I started asking myself, okay, why did this show up in my life? Because as a chiropractor, you know, I understand the body's magnificently made and it has an amazing ability to heal. You cut your finger, you know, it heals no matter if you put a band or not. And so I had to ask myself, you know, what was I, what did I do to allow the cancer to develop and to show up in my life? And that's when I realized I was missing certain pieces of the puzzle. Everything from, you know, there was dental issues, there was hormonal issues. I was, you know, in a bad relationship. I mean, there was a lot of stress going on. There was just the perfect storm for things to show up.
Okay, so somebody listening right now. And I'm always just thinking ahead, like what's somebody else thinking? And I'll tell you, I personally just lost my husband, not my husband, my uncle, I'm sorry, my uncle, to cancer. And he was a health nut, meditated stress free, like all the, all the stuff. And I've had many people in my life that I've gone watched that happen. Not breast cancer necessarily, but cancers where they did all the things and it was just a surprising diagnosis. And they also approached it from a health, you know, natural standpoint in addition to traditional medicine. And some lost their battle. What would you tell the person listening that's in that stage four, that stage three, the serious. Or they just lost somebody to this, that's thinking, well, wait a minute, how are you saying all these things? What would you tell that person?
I would tell that person that I've seen a lot of evidence. As a matter of fact, there's a client that we've had, she was a stage four, told to go home. Home and get her affairs in order. And she did go for some hands on work at a clinic in Mexico, in Cancun, Hope for cancer.
Okay. Is this somebody who. Had she done chemo and radiation too or. No, not done that. Okay. She just finds out she's got stage four and told us.
Okay, right, right. And so she did get some, you know, hands on help at this clinic. And she has, there's another clinic in South Carolina that she's getting a lot of IV infusions and that sort of thing. And things are reversing. I mean, her tumors are shrinking. She's building a new house now, you know, where a year ago she was told to go get her affairs in order. So, you know, we see that happen now. You know, one thing that I learned and you know, coaching women for over seven years, it's, it's, it was very difficult when women would die on our watch. Yeah, and I get coaching, right. I get emotional coaching, eft coaching, all of that. And one of my coaches told me something that was very profound. She said, you know, take no credit, take no blame, because, you know, we don't know what goes on in people's hearts, in people's minds. You know, behind closed doors it may look on the outside like they're doing everything right, but there May be something internal that they haven't addressed, and we have no control over that. And ultimately, you know, we. We choose our. You know, our. We make choices. Right. It's difficult.
So talk to me a little bit about the mindset piece around this, because it's interesting that I said, what stage were you? And you said, I didn't want to know. It didn't matter. I think I've always had this battle with doctors that give us what I call false assumed truths. Like this, you have this, you're going to die, or you have this, you have this long to live, because then the patient takes that on as the truth. So is that part of why you didn't want to know? And did you ever have any doubt that what you knew was going to work?
Well, you know, I refer to that type of doctor as Dr. Doom and Gloom. And unfortunately, you know what they say, imprints the subconscious mind of those poor patients that are afraid. You know, my father was told he had six weeks to live. Bam. To the day. Six weeks.
I hear that all the time.
You know, because they. Because they believe it. They put so much confidence in these white coats, and they don't realize. The doctors, you know, may not realize what they're doing. But, you know, whenever you walk out of a doctor's office, if you're feeling worse than when you walked in, that's a sign that you need to find another doctor. You should leave your doctor's office feeling built up, you know, uplifted, confident, happy, not afraid and feeling down.
And I hate the statistics, because statistics. You could say 80% this, but what about 20% that had the other thing? So that's an interesting thing. Is there ever a time for a doctor to be real and say there's. There's two weeks or a month. Is there ever a time that you feel it that's. That's okay.
Yeah. I mean, I think reality, you know, there's. There's reality. And I know some very compassionate doctors who let people know that this is the reality, and more than likely their body will not recover. You know, again, that being said, what popped into my mind was somebody that I met at a conference. Stage four ovarian cancer. She was in hospice, and she decided. I don't know what made her decide, but she decided she didn't want to die. She got up and left. And, you know, years later, she's, you know, out in the world teaching people about health and wellness.
So I absolutely love. I don't know if you know, this button, but I Use that in all my programs. I say the first step is deciding. I think decision is super powerful in everything. It's a decision. Not, I'm going to try not. I'm going to think about not. I'm going to consider. It's. I decide.
Absolutely.
I think there's a lot to that, and I think there's a commonality and people that I have interviewed in every transformation on that decision, that making a decision. Okay, so it never occurred to you to not decide? You're like, I'm healing. This is going to get figured out?
Yes. Yes. I knew I made the decision that I was going to be. Well, you know, my children were still teenagers and fairly young, and I made the decision I was going to be here for them and see them grow up and have grandchildren, and that's the way it was going to be.
So you decided. But you also had a very clear vision, is what I'm hearing. You had a clear vision of what you wanted instead of.
I did. I did. And, you know, speaking of vision, when we work with our clients, we always tell them to visualize what they want for the future. What does it feel like, you know, when you do your meditations? What does it feel like to have vibrant health? Remember when you were 20 years old? What did that feel like? I want you to get into that feeling because, you know, we know Dr. Joe Dispenza, you know, you are the placebo, you know, very powerful. We have that cellular memory. And so if we can latch on to that cellular memory in a very pos, then our body remembers and the chemistry remembers, and it moves us towards that.
So good. So good. So. And a vision, I'm assuming to you is not like, I just. I don't want cancer. Because you're still focused on the cancer. It's more like, what do you want instead?
Exactly. You're creating vibrant health. We don't say, this is my cancer or my diagnosis. No, you don't want to own it. It's there. It's going to be there temporarily. You don't own it. What you focus on is what you're going to move towards. So we move towards vibrant health. And, you know, we. At our retreats that we host every year, we work on creating their celebration party. I want you to visualize what you're going to be wearing, who you're going to invite, what you're going to serve, where is it going to be, and put a date on it. And that's going to be the day of your celebration party when you can say this journey is behind me and I'm celebrating my.
Instead of what other people typically will focus on is their funeral or their death or that they're leaving all these things.
Yes, yes.
So this sounds all logical, listening to you, but I also am assuming this isn't easy for people.
No, no, it's not easy. But then we give them the tools. There's a lot of books. We encourage them to read. We encourage them to do some eft, some tapping.
What's the FTN tapping? Can you speak into that? I know, but I want to make sure my audience and everyone listening understands what that means.
EFT is emotional freedom technique. It's basically acupuncture or acupressure for the emotions. There's a center in our brain called the amygdala. It's a little tiny almond shaped center and it keeps us in the fight or flight mode.
The reptile brain.
Right, Reptile brain. Right. And when we're in that reptilian brain, our body can't heal. So it's like, it's like trying to, you know, if you're, if you're running from a bear or from a tiger and you're telling yourself, I can heal, I can heal. It just, it doesn't work. So you have to learn to consciously calm down your body. We know when we're in the fight or flight mode, it spreads metastasis, it turns off cancer protective genes. And so learning to consciously calm the body down. So what EFT does is it allows you to give your negative feelings of voice. And while you're doing that, you're tapping on specific acupuncture points. And it's been. Science has proven through MRIs and through EKGs and everything else that it literally slows down, that stress response, lowers cortisol, lowers blood pressure, and literally changes your physical body.
Okay, I've got questions here because I'm a stress ball and I know I attract other stress balls in my life, and I'm also a health nut, but I get this. I get. And it's been a work of mine to get out of that reptile brain. And nothing's urgent. I'm not being chased by a lion or a tiger or a bear. And I, I get that. So how do we even begin to get people that are I. And I know, I track a lot of this personality. A lot of the doers, they, we get that stuff done. We're results oriented. We go, go, go. How do you even start? Because, like hearing I need to slow down and tap and like that. Is there a starting place for that? That's question one about that. And then two, speaking to stimulants a little bit, because a lot of people with that personality are also adding caffeine. They're adding stimulants. Is that making that worse? Can you talk into those two things?
Yes. So first of all, you decide. Right.
Thank you.
That you recognize that it's a healthier habit not to be in that fight or flight mode. I mean, you're looking at the queen of type A personality. All my life.
Really?
Oh, yes. Nose to the grindstone. I mean.
Okay. Because I wouldn't get that talking to you now at all.
Exactly. And interestingly, because someone at our last retreat said to me, you just have this calm energy about you. You do. It's taken me a long time to get there. I want that.
No one's ever described me that way ever. No one's ever said, natalie, you are a calm energy. They say you're a storm. So I want that.
But you know what? Having breast cancer changed that for me because I realized that was part of the stimulus that created cancer in my life.
Wow.
You know, cancer is a message of love. It can be a gift. It can be a blessing if you allow it to be. And so my encouragement to all your listeners and to you is don't wait until you have a crisis before you really, you know, start slowing your body down and taking that time for yourself. Because that adrenaline, when you have the pedal to the metal, you're turning off a lot of, you know, healthy, protective genes that turn on some cancer genes.
And you're releasing cortisol, which adds to that.
Right, right.
So what about stimulants? What about people listening that are using caffeine, they're using prescription Adderall, whatever. What is that doing? Is that contributing to the problem?
Well, it is. It is everything in moderation. And sometimes, you know, prescription medication is necessary, but for the most part, you know, again, we have so much control over our, you know, our personalities and our thoughts. You know, I lived a very dark, depressed life on the inside for most of my adult life. I learned to hide it very well, you know, and I never. There was a short time where I may have taken some medication which I didn't like, but, you know, I've learned to be happy. Happiness is a choice.
Yes, it is.
And I don't care what your background is. You know, we all have dysfunctional crap that we can hang on to, but if we choose to heal that and to forgive them and Forgive ourselves and to focus on love and to focus on joy and focus on the higher frequency emotions. That's a choice. It really is a choice. Yeah.
Okay, so that brings me to another interesting topic and question around this. So as I'm hearing you say, the love, the joy, the higher frequency, the calm, a lot of times with personal development work, emotional intelligence work, or taking it to a whole other level, plant medicine, when people go do plant medicine, all those things on some level get you to that place of letting go of your ego and being able to be your authentic self and focus on love and joy and all that. Is that why the connection to emotional or personal development or plant medicine helps with this type of thing? I'm curious how much you know about that or what you would speak on with that.
What do you mean by plant?
So like people that go to the jungle and they do. I don't know if you know much about that, but like ayahuasca ceremonies or they talk about plant medicine helping with cancer. Is it because of that? Is it because it gets them to that place of peace and love and joy? Like the way personal development or deep spiritual work would?
I think, I don't know. I don't know enough about the whole process, but I think what it does is it breaks down the conscious barriers so that you allow the subconscious to come through. And, you know, you can do that, you know, with meditation, with tapping, with, you know, plant medicine, you know, whatever it is, there's a lot of avenues that can bring that out.
Or the emotional intelligence work, which I guess you would say tapping as part of that. Okay, got it. Interesting. Okay, so you really took that on. Like, how do I take on being this calm person? So you saw that connection like that I need to take that on. And you did things.
Absolutely. I realized especially the second healing journey, my biggest takeaway from that was that I learned to set boundaries. I learned to say no. When I feel my body getting stressed, I pull back and I say, nothing is more important than my life, my family and my health. And when I see work or other things infringing on that, then it's. It's not worth it to me. It may be years back I would have pushed through it and get it done. I don't care if I have to work till 1 o' clock in the morning, I'm going to get it done. I don't do that anymore.
That's amazing. And I guess this is where it comes in where a lot of people will say that things like cancer diagnosis was Their biggest blessing later, once they've conquered it or come through that, because they're probably seeing this.
Absolutely. Yeah. When you are facing a cancer journey, you face your mortality. Right. And so it really asks, gets you to ask a lot of important questions about what's important in your life. And, you know, we're human, you know, sometimes we need a bop on the head. You know, it took me twice to really, you know, to get the message, and I got the message. You know, so hopefully it won't take a diagnosis or a near death experience for somebody to realize that.
I'm assuming you have a lot of naysayers or a lot of people that say, how do you handle that? What do you say to them? Do you just ignore it? What. What comes up for you around that?
Yeah, I ignore them. You know, there's. I mean, I, I made it to quack Watch, so I guess that means.
I, I don't even know what quack watches.
Yeah, it's a website that, you know, researches quacks and, you know, all the, you know, natural doctors and, you know, people that are actually doing great things are on there. So, so that means I, I've made, I've ruffled some feathers and I've made, you know, on the screen they say.
All press is good press, right?
Yeah. So, you know, it just, it's not for everybody. You know, some people have confidence in traditional medicine, and I support them, you know, 100%. I mean, we have women that we work with that do traditional medicine, and they want support on how to, you know, mitigate the side effects. So we, you know, we teach them how to do that, and we still teach them. You still have to correct the cause. You can cut out the lumber, but you have to get to the root cause of what allowed the cancer to develop.
So you're not opposed to people that take that approach of both, Ben?
Absolutely not. Actually, I admire women who have the courage to jump in into traditional medicine because they know what they're getting into, they know they're going to be sick, they know it's going to be horrible. But they have the courage and they're determined. So they're doing whatever they feel is right to get them through it.
Do you feel this advice falls with any type of cancer? Specifically breast cancer?
You know, the system that I created, I created a system called the seven essential system. And when I was going through my first healing journey, I recognized that there were times where I felt overwhelmed and frustrated and confused. You know, where do I start? When do I do this, it's like eating an elephant, right? And so I recognized that if we just broke it down one bite at a time and we gave people an actionable system that it could walk them through and take away the overwhelm. So, yes, if they follow a system and they don't feel so overwhelmed, they feel like they're making progress, then no matter what dis ease you have in your body, because again, it's all the same root cause. Right. Then the seven essentials work for you.
Love that. Okay, take me a little bit through the process and I want people to get your book and the tool that you sent me, which is just amazing. Can you. But can you take us through the process a little bit about. I don't want to give away too much because obviously I know you put your work and everything into the book and what you teach, but I want to give them enough that they are at least aware and can take some of this on. Like, can you speak a little bit into some of the preventative and is it different than some of the stuff once you have it, like, talk, take us through. I'd love to take. Walk through a little bit on the mindset piece and the emotional, but also on like the actual. The do's, the things to do.
Okay, so essential number one is let food be your medicine. And I think your audience is very much aware of the power of food. Number two is to reduce your toxic exposure. We live in a toxic world. You can't live in a bubble. But there's a lot of things you can do to lower your toxic rate and to heal your body. You know, to detox. Number three is to balance your energy. And we are energetic beings. We're one billionth physical matter. The rest is all energy. So how do we keep that balance? While chiropractic, acupuncture, exercise, proper sleep, hormone balance, all those things are important. Number four is a very challenging one for a lot of people that it was for me. It's healing your emotional wounds and that's addressing things from the past, the deep, dark secrets that nobody talks about to the harboring in your heart, you know, the hurts, the wounds. Number five is biological dentistry. What you have in your mouth is going to affect your health.
Yes. I'm going to come back to a question after you go six and seven. I've got a couple that I'm writing down.
Yeah. And then six has to do with all the plants and the supplements that have, you know, studies backing them to show how they can boost your immune system and Weaken the cancer. Number seven is staying on top of your health with very early detection. So everything from blood tests to tools and technology outside of traditional medicine.
Okay? So on a couple of these, I want to dive a little bit deeper. I'm going to start with biological dentistry, because I have a question about that personally. So I had two root canals in my mouth from years ago, and I know people listening have that, too. And I got it in my head about a year ago that I had to have this root canal taken out. Like, I want it out. I have too much. Too much on that. I want it out. And I needed a new crown on that tooth anyway. And I went to my dentist and I told him I wanted out. He told me I was crazy, which I think most dentists unfortunately do. And I said, I want it out. It's in my head now that it's going to create a problem, and I want it out. So he X rayed it, and he said, I get your concern. I'm looking at this. It is literally a perfect root canal. They got everything you're not. There's not one issue there, Natalie. I think it's going to be a way bigger problem than it's worth. I promise you, there's no issue here. Let's make a new crown. And then I got it out of my head. I did the new crown. I listened to him let it go. Which I do think the mindset piece around that does play a role. So me believing it's causing a problem or believing it's not. But I want to know more about that, because I know everyone saw the Netflix movie, and there's a lot of controversy around that. But tell me more about that. Like, how urgent is it for people to remove their root canals and take that stuff out and look at that?
If it were me, I would not have a root canal in my mouth.
So even old ones, you'd have them removed?
Yes. Yeah, I don't have root canals.
Okay.
Everything that I've read, everything that I've studied. Actually, a personal acquaintance of mine who. He's an endodontist. You know, his mother died of breast cancer, and he had heard the association with root canals and cancer. So he just did an experiment. He asked his clients, his patients, you know, is it okay if I have your teeth analyzed? You know, even though they didn't show any evidence getting them pulled, 49 out of the 50 teeth showed pathogenic bacteria.
See, that's scary. See, now I'm mad. Magnabit. I'm just taking that thing out, okay? Now it's in my head again.
And what you should do, too, is get a cone cd, cone X ray, not a panoramic.
Okay, and what does that show?
I'm sorry? A 3D cone beam x ray. It's three dimensional, so you can see if there's infection, cavitation, you know that a flat X ray.
So the regular one that they do does not show that.
No, no.
Okay. So even if you don't have pain, you could be having this.
You can be asymptomatic, no pain. There's. Because think about it. I mean, no matter how aseptic, no matter how clean they try to make it, there's miles of little. Yeah, yeah. And there's lots of little tubules in, you know, that's feeding that tooth. It's like having a dead appendix or dead. The gallbladder, you know, so to have.
That really taken on and looked at, do you go to a biological dentist specifically for that? You don't just go to your oral surgeon or periodontist or. Because I'm assuming they'll do what mine did and say, you're fine, you don't need. You're. You're overreacting.
Yeah. You have to find a certified true blue biological dentist. Just because he says he's holistic doesn't mean he's biological. He's. You got to make sure that he has the proper training and the credentials and they'll, you know, they'll. They'll tell you, can you go to.
A certified biological dentist for all teeth care, all tooth care, like your cleaning things, everything, to start monitoring that stuff?
Yes.
Interesting. Okay, good to know. Okay, the next question is, you said let food be your medicine. Now I have my definition of what healthy, unprocessed, natural food is. I'm curious what.
Yours is probably very similar. You know, 80% raw, organic, you know, depending on your genetics and your blood type. Small amount of clean protein, grass fed.
Wild, caught the plant heavy plant heavy. Vegetables, fruits. How do you talk to me about talking about sugar? Because there's a lot of stories around sugar. And I. Around. Do you. Do you put fruit in that category or vegetables in that category? Like, I want to know your feelings around sugar. And then if you could share your feelings around grains and dairy.
Okay, all right, so sugar, first of all. Well, I learned something very interesting as I was going through my second healing journey. I mean, I juiced for 35 years. I mean, I, you know, was part of my life for many, many years. And I started feeling not well after I Juice. And so I just thought I should check my blood sugar. I don't know what made me think about that. Check my blood sugar. And it was off the charts. Yeah, for me, I really, I recognized that I was becoming insulin resistant very well. And I juiced. I had to change my eating habits. So what I tell our clients is don't guess when it comes to your health, you know, make sure you check your blood sugars, your insulin resistance, your HbA1c, and see how your diet's working for you. And, you know, there's great tests now. There's a nutrition genome test that looks at what foods best support your genetics. So there's, you know, we've come a long way in understanding what nutrition, what best nutrition is for us. There's no cookie cutter diet out there.
But you still eat fruits and vegetables. You just don't juice them to get the high levels of fructose from that.
Correct? You know, I do smoothies and blend them. I don't eat a lot of fruit. I'll eat fruit that's in season, but I don't eat as much fruit and I don't juice a bag of carrots like I used to.
Right. Right. Now, what about the dairy and the grains again?
I mean, for me, I think the grains are not part of my diet. Very minimal because of, you know, some of the inflammatory risk factors involved and the blood sugar levels. The dairy. I'm French and, you know, I'm not lactose intolerant, so I do have a small amount of, like fermented dairy. Like yogurt, no grass.
So if you like the more the raw dairy, the. Not pasteurized, the healthier versions of it. Okay.
And I do some goat. Some goat occasionally.
And you're not. Are you extreme? Like, would you ever have a piece of candy? Do you ever have a piece of pizza? Like, do you ever. Is it ever, like, ever? Is it all or nothing? Like, never, ever, ever do this?
No, it's balance. It's balance. I mean, if I'm in a situation, you know, it all depends. I mean, if I go, if I'm gonna have pizza, I'll try to make sure that it's gluten free.
Yes. Okay. I love that. That's exactly the approach I take. And I believe it's what you do the majority of the time that matters. Not every second of your life, but the majority of your time.
Absolutely.
Okay. Talk about the emotional stuff, because I wanted to. I know I've had guests on about emotional intelligence stuff, but I wanna, I Feel like old me, me. A couple years ago I didn't, I like poo pooed emotional intelligence. I didn't understand what that was. I just, I listened to it, I didn't take it on. Now I really get it and I'm taking it on big time. So any opportunity I have to interview a guest about that and explain it to listeners I think is an audience to educate them even better because I think there's a lot of people like me that don't fully understand what emotional intelligence is and the importance of that. So could you talk a little bit into that and how you go about healing an emotional wound? Like, who do you go to for that? What do you start doing?
Well, I'll tell you about my personal experience. So I grew up in a very dysfunctional environment. You know, both my parents were alcoholics and you know, I carried a lot of that alcoholic child of an alcoholic with me for a very, very long time. I chose men that were abusive. I was in very bad relationships, you know, bad marriages. And you know, there came a point, it was, I was in my early 40s and you know, another divorce. And I had to ask myself, okay, how many times are you going to go through this? What's going on? So I literally would drive an hour and a half to Atlanta from where I lived to see a therapist was a husband and wife spent an hour with each twice a week. And I did that for months and because I wanted to get to the root of what was causing this behavior, you know. And on my way, you know, one of the sessions she said, you know, you have the makings of a person who's sexually abused. And I said, no way. You know, I, you know, my parents are alcoholics, blah, blah, blah, you know, I, but not that. Yeah, yeah, well, just, just think about it on the way home.
And by the way, what are the makings of a person that was sexually abused?
Bad relationships with, with men, you know, choosing abusive relationships, just, you know, breakups and you know, that sort of thing.
Okay.
Felt really low self esteem, you know, those sorts of things.
Got it.
So I'm about halfway home and I start feeling like really nauseous and dizzy. Felt like I was going to throw up and I just, you know, kept driving. And then it was like all of a sudden it was like the movie came on. I saw myself as that little three year old girl in the basement with this man, this neighbor. And long story short, you know, of course I'm crying hysterical, you know, run home, call my therapist as well, just Call your mom, call your sisters to see if there's any truth to that. And when I called my mom, she was, like, dead silent. She says, like, how did you know that? How could you remember? So this was in the. This was in the late 50s. Okay, the late 50s. The police went door to door, telling, you know, warning the neighbors, there was a convicted pedophile next door to us. He was, I mean, you know, 1959. So it had to have been pretty bad if he was convicted back then. So anyway, so. And I called my sister, same thing. So they. They all knew, but I didn't know. I had blocked that out. And so that subconscious part of me was driving my behavior. No trust. And I mean, that breaks your trust and foundation for life.
And how you blocked that out. Like, I mean, well, three, we don't remember a lot. We remember little trig, little moments of three, but that was really buried.
Yeah, Very varied. And so that was. It was very difficult, very painful to go through, but it was such a relief because it was like, now I understand what drove my behavior. Now I understand why I picked bad men. So I stayed single for 10 years. I did the work.
And when you say did the work, what's the work?
Oh, boy. Just read a lot of books, a lot of meditation. Louise Hay, I love her work.
Yeah, me too.
I mean, I read her books I don't know how many times and just, you know, really focused on healing that wounded little girl that I didn't know.
I love that.
When she was so wounded, now I understood why I wanted to make that safe environment for her. So I, you know, I stayed single for 10 years. You know, I dated kind of in between. But then when I felt that I was single, satisfied, didn't need a man, well, I met the man of my dreams, and of course, happily married for 10 years. And he's just wonderful because I finally deserved, like, I could accept.
Yeah, that's true self love. Yeah, that's that true self love. I love that it's. True self love is not getting a manicure. Like, people think that that's the bed.
It's.
Yes, that's true self love. I love that. Gosh, this is so powerful. I have so many more questions, but a lot of it I know is in your book. Tell us about. I want to know about this model that you developed, because this is so cool. You sent it to me. Explain that. And then I want to ask about where people can find your book.
Okay. So my breast friend is a silicone breast model that looks and feels like a real breast. It's got nodular tissue in it and it has four, four distinct lumps in it that are replicas of actual breast cancers. Now this model was created through the Mammicare foundation with the help of the National Science foundation, the National Cancer Institute. This model has been used for over 30 years to train doctors on how to find lumps in women's breasts. The manufacturer of the company asked me to take this model. We made it look pretty, it's purple and lavender and bring it to the general public. Women could learn how to do a proper breast self exam. Because even if you do a mammogram or thermogram ultrasound once a year, guess What? There's still 364 days of the year where your breast tissue can change. And why not be love your body enough to feel it.
It's so fantastic. She sent me one and I love this. I had no idea, like I. Some of them were obvious, like okay, well I would have noticed if I had that feeling. But some like you really have to press down to find it and I would have not known to do that. So I highly recommend this model. I think it was brilliant idea and I think it's going help save a lot of lives. This model and then your book, where can people get that?
The book is called Heal Breast Cancer Naturally. You can find it on Amazon or you can go to breastcancerconquerer.com to just look at the website and order the book.
I'm going to put all that in the show notes and then I do have a question that I ask every guest on here and I'm curious your take on it. If somebody's listening to this right now and they're their own personal rock bottom, maybe it's related to a diagnosis. They just got terrible news to them, they're feeling doom, terrible news. Or maybe it's something different. Maybe it has nothing to do with that. Maybe it's like when you went through your divorce or you just found out you had had sexual trauma or you are financially losing something, lost your business, but you're in your own personal rock bottom, whatever that is. If you were to give them three things that they could do to start leveling up their life and changing their thought process, what would you tell them?
The first thing would be to just really get still and to feel the feelings, what are you feeling at that particular moment? And list them all out. The second thing is to shift that and say how would you like to feel? You're in a certain place and where do you want to go from there? How would you like to feel? And then the third thing is to love yourself through the process because you're not going to get from the rock bottom to where you want to be with, you know, by beating yourself up. You have to learn to love yourself through the process and to be kind to yourself and to be gentle. You know, we're all wounded children, you know, how would you that little child if they were feeling the way you are feeling?
Yes. Oh this was so powerful today. I cannot wait for people to dive more into your book and to get this model. And I just love everything about this conversation. And thank you so much for being here and shedding some light on such a sensitive topic. But what a really important topic. Thank you.
