119: Creating Subconscious Transformation with Jim Fortin

Natalie Jill talks with subconscious transformation coach Jim Fortin about rewiring your mind for success. They cover his journey out of financial hardship, how hypnosis and identity shifts reshape habits, and the neuroscience behind lasting personal change.
Hi, I'm Natalie Jill, fat loss expert turned high performance coach. When odds are stacked against us, how do we shift and create everything from nothing? How do we level up when we aren't feeling it yet or we've had a big setback? On this podcast, I'll be talking to some of the most inspiring and courageous men and women on this planet who at their worst, learned how to achieve success greater than they ever dreamed possible. Leveling up and creating everything from nothing. Jim Fortin was a name that I kept hearing over and over and over again from, like, everyone I admire. Pretty much. He's the coach behind some of the greatest coaches. And after listening to over 40 hours of him on his platforms, I had to know more. I had more questions for him. I wanted to know, how the heck does he know what he knows? Because every time I listened to him, I would have so many aha moments. And I just think his way of teaching and what I've learned from him is brilliant. So, I mean, Jim Forten, if you don't know who he is, he is widely considered the leader in subconscious transformation, and he's helped countless people, countless from all over the world, transform their lives from the inside out. And how the heck does he know what he knows? I wanted to know, so I reached out to him direct and. And I had a candid talk with him today. So join in today and learn exactly how Jim Fortin himself has leveled up time and time again and how he's now impacted millions along the way. I am so excited today because I've got the one and only Jim Fortin on. And Jim, I cannot wait to interview you because I feel like we're friends even though you don't know me yet, because I hear you in my ear pretty much every day when I walk. You're like my go to podcast that I listen to. You've been my coach from afar. We have a lot of mutual friends, and so I feel like I already know you. Like, we're best friends here.
Well, let's be best friends then. Yeah. No, I, like, I feel like I know you because I'm very picky about people that I'm friends with. And I don't mean that in an arrogant way. It's that I choose who I'm around and who I have in my environment. And the people that you know, that we know mutually, that are mutual friends, are people that I consider the most integral, heart, centered, loving, giving people. So I already know you.
Yeah. Thank you. You too. So I have so many questions, but for those of you that don't know Jim Fortin, he. It's, it's going to be different than other interviews I've done. Um, it's. This is not becoming, coming because I understood a specific hardship that he had and I wanted to know how he overcame it.
This is because, by the way, I have those. I don't mean to interrupt you. I have those. And we can go there.
I'm probably going to go there then too, for sure. But the reason I really wanted him is you've really coached me from afar and you've changed my way of thinking about things. So I'm curious how you even got into that. So I wanted to go back. I know you're now considered, you know, this leader in subconscious transformation, and I want to know where that even came from. Like, did you know as a little kid that's what you were going to be doing? Take me back?
No. As a little kid, I had planned to be a politician. Literally as a kid, my mother said, I remember when I was six, my mother looked at my aunt and said, this kid talks so much, he's going to be a preacher or a salesman. And I don't know which, because you.
Talked a lot, which is funny.
I was a jabber jaw as a kid. And how I got here was in college. I was a political science, psychology double major. And this day and age, I don't follow any partisan politics, but I have worked in politics and I have worked for an American president. But what happened is, what got me here is in 1988, I was offered a job on United States Senator Lloyd Benson's staff. He was running for the Vice presidency and I turned it down. And I went to work with an entrepreneur that I didn't know was a con man. I had money out of college and he conned me out of my money. And then he put a lot of my money into foreign trading. I'll make this story very quick. Lost it all and it flipped my life upside down. In my mid-20s, when I say lost at all, it'd be the equivalent of about 700,000 now, today's dollars in your 20s.
So that's traumatizing.
I imagine that's how I have the, the okay to riches to rag story coming back and coming back again. So what happened is I'm like, how do people come back from this? And I started waiting. I mean, I have a couple of college degrees, but I started waiting tables and I started following my passion. I've always been interested in growth, evolvement, personal development. Which is part of my path. But mechanically, I got involved in like, what's it called? Personal development.
Okay.
And I'm like, I'm not getting enough here. I'm like, I like listening to Zig Ziglar, but I'm not getting any change. Then I got involved in nlp, neuro linguistic programming. And I'm like, okay, I'm getting some traction now. From there, I got involved in hypnosis. Like, whoa, I'm really transforming my life. And then from there, I've been a coach many years. And then I really got into the transformational aspect of using self hypnosis to transform our lives. I went years ago from looking in my backseat for change so I could scrape together a dollar so I could buy a back a box of macaroni and cheese and tuna to eat dinner. Like a $29 to today. I do very well. But I have had that story where things are flipped upside down, which people in your audience talk about or people.
So let me ask you about that, because this is part of what makes you who you are. How did you, like, how did you even go and get involved with this entrepreneur that ended up being a scam artist? Like, looking back, were there signs now what do you think was the attraction there and how that happened?
Good gosh, There are signs. He's in prison again for a second time. And I distanced myself from him 25 years ago or longer, and he's in prison again for running the largest Ponzi scheme in Texas. So it's who he is. There were signs. But I was a kid when I got involved, like 23, and I had money, so I was oblivious. And back at that time in my life, I was. I liked flashy things. Money was important to me. And I don't want to go too much further here, but he was a sports celebrity in Texas. He's a legend in Texas football, first round draft choice in the NFL. So we used to go golfing with people like Terry Bradshaw and go to Willie Nelson's golf course and oh, yeah, thing happening.
And imagine you were starstruck with that.
I was starstruck with the people that I was around on private planes with. And so I literally technically never what he was doing. Until one day I was in the office on a Saturday afternoon and I started looking through files and I'm like, okay, this is bad news. And he was also a really angry, very large person. And I'm like, I'm done. I packed my bags on Monday and I moved halfway across the country to get away from the guy.
Wow.
I had no money. I bought a car after this was all done. I mean, I left everything. I let him use my credit, which he destroyed. I. I was waiting tables at this point also because I was already distancing myself because I was. Things weren't right. I bought a car from a friend of mine, I hadn't even thought about it till now for $1,000, drove across country and started rebuilding my life again with personal development and then the NLP and then the hypnosis years later.
So let me ask you, because a lot of people, they go through something like that and they shut down. It goes to. I don't trust people. Everyone's a scam, and they become the miserable, angry person. Why did that not happen? What set. What made you step into the other things?
Part of that's probably just in my psychological DNA and that I grew up working really hard, which is something that I actually talk against these days, is that hard work doesn't get us ahead in life. So I grew up working really hard, and I knew that, okay, if I just put one foot in front of the other and I just focus. And I did know back then that I'm the one who got myself there. And I knew that I could also get myself out of it. And I worked a couple of jobs for two years, just even financially stabilizing myself after that. But I never went into, well, he did this and he did that, and I'm a victim. And poor me, I never went there at all. And I don't know why, but I just didn't.
Yeah, you stayed, like, focused on what's possible. It seems like even then, without knowing you were doing that.
Well, I do want to add. Yes, but I do. I do want to add that I was, I think, at that point also working in victim mentality. Like, I wasn't blaming him per se, but I was like, God, my life really sucks. This really sucks that I'm working two jobs, you know, how did this happen to me, etc. So I don't think that I was particularly very positive at that point in my life, but I didn't just roll over and play dead like a lot of people do and whine about it for 10 years.
So how did you get out of that? You mentioned a lot of things like personal development, and I play in hypnosis, but how did that happen? Because you're. You're in this. You're doing the right things, you're being responsible, trying to do whatever you can. The two jobs to get out of it. You recognize you're in victim mentality and you're there. But how did you learn about these other things? Who introduced that to you and what set you on that path?
This is really easy. No one's ever asked this, and I've never told this story publicly, but the guy that I'm just. And I'll give. I'll give everyone listening a big takeaway here in just a second. The guy that I. That I'm talking about, that the con man, he was the first round draft choice in the NFL. So he knew a lot of the NFL. I mean, like names in the NFL. And one day he looked at me and goes, jim, you make me mad. And I'm like, why? He goes, you have more talent in your little finger than most people have, and you waste a lot of your talent. And then he used the football analogy. He goes, a lot of people will work and work and work to be great at football, but you know what your Heisman Trophy level. And you can just do every. You can do things. Now let me go to what he saw in me that I didn't see, which everyone listening, please. Hopefully you'll get this. One of my contextual, core, foundational beliefs is that things always work out for me. So I've always operated from that place, which is contextual thinking. So even though things flipped upside down, I always knew that things would always work out for me. And I work from. Things always work out for me. Opportunities always come to me because I have evidence of that and that the people that I need to meet, they will come into my life. Let me go a little further here.
Mm.
In New York City, I recently telling some people that one of my clients, the first day I was talking to him, he literally was on his cell phone. And this was a lot of years ago, but he was talking to the President of the United States on his cell phone. Their friends, okay. I told a friend of mine about that, and he's like, how do you meet people like that? And here's what. Here's what I said. I said, I don't know. This just happens to me. And this day and age, I know that everything's energy, so I know that I vibrate that and I attract these people. So I know that work from 100% possible, 100% of the time, things always work out for me. Long answer. But if people take that and they digest that and you work from that, things are always going to be fine. They always have been, and they will be fine now. And you just actually hold that core belief that you'll attract the right people and things will happen again. They always will.
I love that because if you focus on what's going on wrong, you're going to just keep finding more evidence of that. But if you do that, it's, it's like you're, you're forcing your brain, your body, your actions, everything to move into that makes sense.
You used a word there that I use a lot when I coach one to one and group as well. But evidence, I'm always looking for evidence and I have plenty of evidence to know that there are some, there have been some things that do not go well in my life term in terms of my expectations or whatever or frames. But nine times out of ten, things always go pretty well. And I have to believe, and I do believe that comes from the core belief that things always work out for me.
I love that. And I want people to hear this, that are listening too, that it's like the chicken or the egg analogy. You're not saying because somebody might hear that and go, oh, you're happy or things work out because they work out for you. And what he's saying is because he knows that they're going to work out for him. They do.
Let me go there, if I can, is you probably heard me, you've heard me mention in the podcast, my brother in law, the shaman.
Yes, I was going to ask you about that because you mentioned him on almost every podcast. I'm like, he must have had a big impact on your life.
I apprenticed with him and something he's drilled in my head over the years that people think that money, once they have money, they'll be happy. But he said it doesn't work that way. We have to be happy first because that's our frequency and vibration. And he said a happy life is what creates when we're happy on the inside first. That's what creates everything else. But most people work backwards and they're like, I will be happy when I have the car and the home and the college and the kids out of the house and my new job and then I will be happy, but not until then. And they're working backwards.
Yes. This is the beat you have that I love to talk about and share. Yeah.
And let me add also one more thing here is that we're, we're, we're closing our card today. We're launching our transformational coaching program and talking about things working out. My team is like, we are steamrolled and in a very Positive way. And a friend of mine today knows the numbers. And he's like, Jim, he goes, I don't, I don't get it. How, how does this happen? I mean, how do you just introduce this program in two years? Mega multimillion dollar program. And I said, because things always work out for me. And I live from that vibration and frequency. And everyone listening, if they would get out of their head and stop saying, well, I got fired or I lost my job or the car broke down or my mother's mad at me and they stop all that external nonsense, head garbage, and they work from peace on the inside, your life will change quickly.
I love that. And it's, it's so true too, because I think about every interview I've done on here. Really, I've done over 100 interviews. And everyone that's been super successful and changed that walk through this, they all will look back and say that those hardships, those hard times, it happened for them. It all. They always say that they never stay stuck on that. So there is something on the other side of it. But like you're saying, you have to look, you have to believe that that's there, that that's available.
Yeah. The people we're talking about earlier, the one who lives in San Diego, that's known your husband for a while, that has got a very successful company now. And I've coached him and mentored him and he's been a friend and a dear friend, like a brother for a lot of years now. But I have formally coached him. And his company now I believe is doing in the range of $100 million a year.
Yeah.
And four years ago, he's like, Jim, he goes, we, we were losing $50,000 per month. Now we're making this. And this is what I. And we talked about. People we know, they're all seven figure earners or personal friends of ours. These people, I want everyone listening, please, to get this is, these people think differently even than people that make low six figures or mid six figures. They have a completely different identity and way that they think about themselves and what happens in their life to people that are constantly struggling for a living.
Yeah, I feel like they work for vision. And I, we're talking about Drew Canole, by the way. So. And he. It's true, because I knew him years ago too. And it was even knowing his situation, how he'd always talk about vision and possibility. It was like he was just, he was so enrolled in his own vision that you couldn't help but to be enrolled with him.
Yeah. And let me add there. I remember many years ago, he even called me and said when he left Hamp, he's like, jim, what should I do? What should I do with my life? And I'm like, are you crazy? It's right in front of you. And then maybe a year later, I mean, we talk all the time, but a year later, we were having a conversation, and he was starting juicing vegetables.
Yeah.
I mean, it became a big brand, and now that morphed in Organifi, which is a huge company. And he said to me, he said, we're talking about money. And I said, do you have any money? And he's like, nope. And I'm like, do you have enough money to cover next month's rent? And he's like, nope. I'm like. I'm like, okay. Yeah. I'm like, okay, I'm gonna be loaning him $5,000 next month. But the thing is this, people that actually, like Drew people get out there and they become very tenacious. They put their head down. And it's not even that they work, even though that they do, but they're what I call aligned, and they are on purpose. They know why they're here, and they make it happen, and they use their will and make it happen. And I see that in every seven plus figure earner.
That's amazing. Okay, you mentioned something when we first, before we started recording. I said to Jim, I said, you don't know a lot about me, but I am that person. That's a pattern of creating a lot. I make great success, and then I have failure, and then the failure teaches me so much more, and then I create another success, and it's a pattern. And he said, let's talk about that. Because he said he knows why that happens. So if you're listening, I want this to be coaching for you, too. I'm dying to hear what you're going to say here.
I'm going to give you two examples. Number one is, I used to speak at the same events as Donald Trump many years ago. I never hung around. Tony was there. Robinson. Other people were there. I never hung around and listened to the other speakers. One time, I did hear Trump say that in 92, he was walking in the streets of New York and he saw a homeless guy. And he said, that guy. I looked at that homeless guy, Trump said, And he goes, that guy was richer than I was because I was $2.9 billion in personal debt. That guy was just broke. So he was 2.9 billion ahead of me. And today, Donald Trump, he says he's worth 10, but other sources say he's worth about 3 billion. Still a lot of money. Okay. Yeah, but here's what I asked people. How did Donald Trump go from 3 billion down to 3 billion up, when in his external world, the world around him, he didn't have any money? This is where most people crash and burn, is they actually start associating and identifying with that circumstance of the world around them. What Trump did, even though in his external world he was broke, and his internal identity, there's the key word, everyone write it down in his identity, he was rich. So what happens is our external world always corresponds to our internal identity. Now, a couple of more stories to help people here. You. What you have is you have, we have, we all have like a barometer, like on your wall for your air conditioning or heat or whatever. And if your air conditioning is set at 75, well, that's when the air conditioning turns off. So we have financial barometers. So let's say, for example, and I will share mine with you. So we have financial barometers, our thermometers or thermostats or whatever you want to call them. So what happens is, once we hit the limit of that thermostat and our finances, our subconscious mind goes, okay, you're at the top of your game. You cannot go through that because that's the top of your game. So we're going to actually stop you right there. Or people have an identity of also. And I see a lot of this. Well, what I see most of is even though we live in a country where 79% of people live paycheck to paycheck, and people that do make money, I see a lot of money in money out. Money in money out. That is their unconscious identity. I make money, I spend money, don't have enough. Make money, spend money. Where they're not working from is the identity of I attract money. And a lot of money piles up in my life. So even though you do well and your husband does well, you have it. And I'm going to apply this to myself. You've got a thermostat. And then when you hit that thermostat, this is all completely unconscious. Your unconscious mind goes, okay, top of your game, time to go back down again. So for me, being 100% transparent, I never knew that my programs were going to go where they are and where they're going. And I've always been a good earner, my partner, we make good money we have investments, we have land. So I've never really chased money, and I've never really thought about it. Now I'm in a place in my business now, we're making millions of dollars per year, and I'm in a place where. Okay, you know what? I'm a little out of my comfort zone because this has taken off like a wild horse, and I'm hanging on to it. And you know what? I can't go back to my old identity of wanting just a life by myself, sitting on the back deck, having a glass of wine. I need to become a different person and a different person relative to the way that I coach, the number of people that I coach, and even the money that I attract. So I am literally, just to be more transparent here, is I really like a simple life. I'm all about simplicity and authenticity and just really, just do not complicate life. And as my company started growing, I'm like, holy cow, I never planned on all this. Now I've got these employees and all this stuff and the lawyers and the taxes. I never planned on this. And then I got to, well, why don't I just hire somebody to take care of it for me? And I'm literally in the process of my own personal transformation about saying, jim, if you're going to serve and you're really going to help people, you got to raise the bar even more. And who would that person be when you raise that bar? So for everyone listening, this is what I tell people, then I'll shut up. Is that we don't get. We don't get what we want in life. I don't care what you want because that's left brain. That's analytical thought. We get our unconscious identity, and that's all we get. So if we don't have what we want, we have to shift the identity. And you personally have to move your identity thermostat to a higher level.
Interesting. Okay, so I'm following. And I've heard you talk about this before, and I've heard the thermostat examp, and it registers. But what I. What I get stuck on is how you figure out what it is. Like, because in my mind, I'm like, well, I don't have a thermostat. How do you figure out what it is? And is it. Is that. Go back to the evidence of, like, what's the evidence of what you've been saying at. Or. Or. And then how do you fix it? How do we fix it?
Let's go there first. How to figure out what it is people will say to me, Jim, if my identity is unconscious, subconscious. Subconscious, and I can't see it, well, then how do I know what it is? Mm, easy. Your external world. Is your identity objectified now? Okay, for example, I don't know. I haven't been in your house, but that chair behind you is a contemporary chair. Okay, so part of your identity in the pink chair you're in might also be a contemporary. I'm in my house in Sedona, which is. I don't know if you've ever been to Sedona, but you love it. Yeah, Sedona is not a contemporary place. It's more rustic, more traditional, more mountainous, etc. So my house here, which everything in my house reflects my identity, which is more rustic, more mountain, more traditional, etc. So our identity comes out whether it's in our house, whether it's in our car, whether it's in our bank account, and. Let's go there. You have a question. Go ahead.
I just had, like, a massive aha moment. This is really interesting because I'm sitting here thinking, like, well, my house doesn't really reflect that. And thinking as you're talking. And it hit me that ever since the housing market crashed in 2007, 2008, I have not owned a home. I've owned four homes before, and I did not. I have not wanted to own a home since that happened because I lost so much in that renter. So Brooks and I have rented over and over and over again. So every house I'm in is temporary. Every. It's like a year, two years, constant. We. And we've, like, gotten into that. Like, we start over. But I just made a parallel by business. As I asked you, why do I have a pattern of creating everything and then losing and creating everything and losing? And I hear I'm doing that in my home. So what you're saying is true. So in a little bit of a different way, but I think that's what you're talking about.
What I'm saying also is that you're living from your past.
Yeah.
10 years ago. What happened 10 years ago happened 10 years ago. And notice where you were still working from until a few minutes ago. Oh, this is what we do now. Because something that doesn't even exist anymore 10 years ago happened. Therefore, we choose to live in a way now that limits us on something that happened in the past.
Wow. I would have never put this together until you were saying all that. That's really cool.
Okay, then. The next you asked was, how do we change identity? Right.
Mm.
You've heard this in the podcast. I freely tell people this. I have no affiliate link, and I tell people this because it's a solid book. But the power of the subconscious mind by order.
I've heard you talk about that. Yeah, power.
I tell everyone about the book. Why could I go write my own book? Yes, but why? Why would I reinvent the wheel? Why would I give myself that much work? He's not even on the planet anymore. I don't care as long as the book helps people. And what I tell people is this is he writes it from a Christian perspective. It doesn't matter. Just filter that out and put, you know, universe, or put nothing in there or divine force or whatever, but take the content in the book and start reprogramming your subconscious mind and in particular, the identity of who you want to be.
I love that. So is that pretty much what you did for yourself? Did you walk through those actions?
You. Well, I worked at The Hypnosis Institute 20 something years ago in New York. So, yes, I've been aware of the power of hypnosis and self hypnosis for two decades. What people don't know you've heard on the podcast is that hypnosis is endorsed by Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Columbia, the Mayo Clinic. I mean, the psychological and also the American psychological and American psychiatric associations. The efficacy of it is medically, physically, behaviorally, psychologically proven over and over and over. So I have used. I probably have a hundred different audios on my phone these days. I listen to one or two that's about it on a consistent basis. But there's not. Well, almost. There's not a day that goes by that I don't listen to a hypnosis audio to continuously reprogram my subconscious mind.
So if these. What, hypnosis? How does somebody find the right ones? And do you recommend that people jump into that? Because to me, my mind just went to like, oh, that's probably a quicker way than trying to figure it all out myself. I should just be hypnotized.
Yeah.
Something you recommend for people?
I definitely tell people. Like, my transformational coaching program, we closed tonight. And I do teach, I mean, comprehensively, self hypnosis. And I have my own audios in there that are not released to the public that I share with people. But I also tell everyone in my program, I'm gonna. I'm gonna refer you to a hypnotist that we have here in the program or find one in your city. And find one that I say is endorsed by the National Guild of Hypnotist. Because I know they're training. I know that they're. I know they're good at what they do, most likely. But I recommend and I hear time and time again from students, Jim, the self hypnosis is great. But you know what? You're right. When I did at least one session with a hypnotherapist or a hypnotist. Wow, Amazing results for the most part. I do want to, I do want to say one caveat. Stanford has discovered that hypnosis doesn't work really effective for a small percentage of the population, like about 10%. So a hypnotherapist or hypnotist really wouldn't serve that person well. But for most of us, we can get extreme benefit from a hypnotist.
And it doesn't work because that those people can't get into that states or because they're just not influenced with that.
It's not that they're not influenced because that would be. That would be left brain thinking analytical. It means their brain just, just, just doesn't work in a way that facilitates what we call trance or the hypnotic state or something. And then if that's the case, well, then the way to reprogram your subconscious mind is through auto. I think it's called autogenesis, a word somebody made up. Auto. Auto suggestion, meaning people don't get. What we talk to ourselves about all day long is what we program ourselves with. And this is nothing new. This has been around forever in personal development. But for example, if I say money's hard to come by. Money's hard to come by. Money's hard to come by. And I say that all day long or you got to struggle for money. I am programming myself to be a person with that identity to actually struggle for money.
Yes.
Then what I do is I struggle for money. It's an unconscious behavior. And I don't even know that I'm doing it, but that is the paradigm that I live in. Yeah, I don't live there, but I'm giving. I used to.
Yeah. Yeah. From listening to your podcast. I mean, I've caught myself many times. And I would have said I don't live there either, but I still catch myself. I think we, a lot of us do it. You have to, like, consciously, you have to really start being aware of how many times you say to somebody, I'm broke, or this isn't working, or all that stuff starts really being part of you.
Yes. And let me add my own. My own transformation. I don't. I no longer say this, but I used to always say, even when I was making good money, and I make really good money now, but I would say, I don't care about the money. I love what I do. And I'm like, jim, what are you telling the universe when you say you don't care about money?
Right.
Not that money defines me. You know, your husband drives a Porsche, I drive a Porsche. We kid about that and stuff. But here's the thing. To me, money is just a tool. And the more money that I attract, guess what? The bigger. The bigger reach I can have. So then I said to myself, well, yes, money is. I do care about the money, because guess what? My director of operations wants to be paid. My tech guy wants to be paid. My social media manager wants to be paid. So I do care about the money because it gives me a bigger reach to help more people.
Yeah, that's really good. Okay, help me here with. I'm going to go to something I get commonly from people. So this is something I want. This is. People get very stuck in that place that Drew was or that we. That you talked about when you were broke in your 20s, very stuck in the failures. And they could hear everything you're saying and know, okay, I got it. There's a thermometer. I got it. It's happening for me. I need to stay positive. I need to be thinking of these things. But they still can't move. It's like they're still. There's still the facts. I can't pay my rent next month. I can't pay my employees or whatever that is. What do you suggest for somebody? Like, how do they even start to weave out of that? Because you're so advanced on this and it's so part of you now. But for the person that's. They hear it, they understand that textbook, but they're just. They're really stuck in their financial situation. Help me with that.
Yeah, great question. Drew and I were talking in 2013 or so or 2014, I don't know. And it was the end of the year, last week of the year. We're just talking the week after Christmas. And he went from having no money to a million dollars that year. And I said, drew, what happened? And he goes, I decided that I was no longer going to struggle with money. Okay, now let me go there.
Okay.
Nothing ever happens until we choose right now. Let's go here. We're gonna go some brain stuff, which my podcast Coming out tomorrow is on this to some degree, okay, is that people will say, I want to change, but they go right back to their old patterns again. That's not psychological, that's neurological. And that the oldest part of the brain, the reptilian part of the brain, doesn't like change. It does not literally. Because the oldest part of the brain is responsible for our survival. And as long as we're, well, we're on the planet and we know what's going to happen, our survival is not threatened. But if we think we're going to change things now, our survival at a reptilian brain level is threatened. Because I don't know what's through that door. If I walk through that door. So that is unsafe. Therefore I'm not going to walk through the door. So what happens is the brain, actually the reptilian part of the brain pulls us back. Let me give you. I just popped in my mind. There has been some research on this. And do you know when people hook people up to electrodes and all this kind of stuff, science stuff and anyway, do you know when people get the most stressed out in a small way in a supermarket?
What, at the checkout? I don't know.
What they discovered is when people come to an end of an aisle and they can't see around it, their stress level goes up a little bit because they don't know what's around the corner. So you think about when you're in a store, how many times before you go to the corner are you like, is there, I gotta peek around here? Is there somebody around this corner?
Ah, good point. I never would've thought about that.
You're right, this is psychological stuff. And then I walked into a CVS one time pharmacy in Dallas and all the shelves were lower and I could see the entire store. And I walked in, I'm like, why am I feeling very comfortable in this store? And what dawned on me is like, I have the lay of the landscape. I can see everything in here, which is freeing. And let me go back here.
Oh yeah, you know what, you just. I'm thinking of like the natural food store here. And that's what that one is. Yeah, like the big box stores are not interesting.
Exactly. This is all brain based. So what happens is we analytically say, oh my gosh, Jim, I get it. I'm so, so tired of my life. I'm so tired of struggling. But see, that's what we are at the identity level and that's what we are at the habit level. So then what Happens is we analytically say, okay, I'm going to go do X, Y, Z to change my life. And the reptilian part of the brain says, no, no, no, you're not going to do that, because it's not a habit. Let me just suck you right back in the old behavior again. So what we have to do is re. Habituate with small steps, start rehabituating new thought and new behavior.
Oh, I love that you're. You're. It's so funny because I teach things about changing your thoughts and actions to change results, but how you're explaining it is just taking it to a whole nother level. Like, I'm getting more clear.
I tell people, like, for. I created an audio last night, a video for the new transformational program. And what I tell people is this. Let's say that you say, I'm going to. I'm going to. I'm going to change XYZ about my life. I'm going to start improving my life. Well, what happens is that's conscious thought. And then you're like, oh, geez, I forgot I was going to do XYZ today. That's why we use technology. And there are different apps like Stripe and Habit List and different apps you can use now to give you a great example, I'm in my home in Sedona right now, and I go back and forth, and I have been going back and forth between Dallas and Sedona, okay? And I've had all these routines for years. Like this, you know, you know, Drew and like, you know, he's all natural, holistic. I mean, there's like this entire regimen of herbs that I take and I'm taking cares. When I'm in Dallas, it goes off like clockwork. When I come to Sedona, I'm like, okay, get your list out. Make sure you're going through everything. Why? Because I've changed my physical environment, which doesn't cue me into the habits that happen naturally in Dallas. And let me go a little further here. So the shower here in Dallas, the shower has all the. All the soap and all, you know, all, like, my shelves on the left. So every day when I shower, I'm reaching to the left. When I go to Dallas, it's on the right. And when I went back to Dallas, the very first day I started reaching my left, I'm like, oh, my gosh. My brain is habituated to shower because I've been doing that for two weeks there. So everyone listening, please, and stop personalizing and saying, oh, I'M bad and I'm undisciplined and I just don't have this. And I can't do that because that's all thought. When it's your habits which are brain based, which are driving you. That's why people talk about habits, but very few people understand habits.
So good. Was it you that I learned about? I can't remember where I've been repeating it. I don't remember who I learned it from. About habit hacking, was that you or is that.
I probably have used. Oh, I. Well, okay, go a little further here.
So I've been teaching people because I applied it to myself, I can't take credit for it. It wasn't my idea. But the idea of habit hacking, where if there's a new habit you want to create, like for example, I had a bad habit of just going through my to do list every day. Like getting caught up my to do list where I know I get my best ideas, learn, advance when I can do things like go for a walk and listen to a podcast. So like, instead, it's more important for me, I know to go for a walk, get exercise, listen to a podcast for personal development, help myself than it is just to sit and go through a to do list all day. But it was a habit to do that. So I started how do I have it hack? Like, how do you combine one thing together with another? So originally I would look at it as I have to walk and I have to listen to a podcast or read personal development. But the habit hack was I'm going to put those two things together so they become. They don't feel as chores. I'm combining two things together and I'm more likely to go do it.
Okay, so are you asking how to combine them?
Well, no, I'm asking if I got that from you. And like, is that what is that a way that you would suggest how people can start a new habit?
Yeah, you. That's not. You didn't use my words. So I don't know if you got it from me, but I teach people the same process is, let's say, for example, that you want to start a new habit. What I want to do is. Okay, the best example is this is the mailbox at this house here is up the alley, across the street, on the other side of the street. Okay, so. And it's different in Dallas. But anyway, so when I want my mail, then I know where I have to go to get the mail because that's where the mail person always puts the mail. Right. I know where it is. So what I want to do is, where I'm going with this is I want to stack a new habit on an old habit that happens. Like the mailbox. The mailbox, which I already know where it is.
Okay.
I want to stack a new habit onto an old habit. So the old habit reminds me to go into the new habit. So an example would be, let's say that I say that I want to start drinking hot tea in the morning, which I already do. But this is an example. I want to drink my organifi. And Drew owes us money for that. Okay. So, you know, let's say I want to drink my hot tea in the morning. Well, what I would do is I would find that probably I just don't do it because I'm not in the habit of it. But what if I did this? I said, okay, after I brush my teeth in the morning, the first thing I'm going to do is go have hot tea. Now, because I brush my teeth every morning, I literally anchor that hot tea to the brushing. So the brushing reminds me to go have the hot tea. I call it habit stacking. But that's a way. That's a way to cue the new habit by tying it to. That already happens automatically.
I do that. I think now that you're saying that, like, instead of having your cell phone next to your bed, or if that's your issue, like you have, you check your cell phone every day. I always put my vitamins and my supplements and my water right there. So first thing in the morning, I might still grab my phone. I'm not perfect with that yet, but I also do have my supplements in my water right away.
That's exactly, exactly what I'm talking about. Because in the morning, what I do, the first thing is I get up And I drink 42 ounces of water.
Yeah.
But now something I do, I have a contigo with me, and this gets filled up multiple times a day. Even though this is audio, we're doing video. You've heard me say this in the podcast. Every time that I fill this up before I take a sip, I bless the water. And the kids are the word contigo. There we go. Alright. I bless the water. Why? Because it's a practice in gratitude for something that sustains my life. Because something that's important to me is to live from gratitude. Am I perfect? This? I'm pretty good at it. It's very rare that unless my environment changes, which throws me off.
Yep.
Anytime I have this, this one Right here in my hand. This will be blessed before I drink it. But it's just habit is all that it is.
That's amazing. Do you. It sounds. You just have this so together now. Do you ever have days where you're just completely off? You're like, oh, I didn't drink my water. I didn't. I wasn't. I was feeling victim. That ever happened to you?
And I don't want to be a jerk or sound like a jerk.
I want to real. I'm really curious, like, if it's. No, it's no. I just. I'm. That's possible. I want to know.
Anything's possible when it's habituated. Because everything comes down to habit. Do I have really, like, bad days and funk days? Absolutely not. No. Why? Because you've heard me say this in the podcast. I move my attention anytime I'm in a funk, I'm miscreating, and I'm in a place I do not belong in. I cannot tell you. Actually, I can tell you. Yeah, the last time I was in a funk, I was in Salt Lake City. That was three years ago. And I remember that I was walking in the streets and I was in the funk, but I brought the funk back from Dreamtime because I woke up in a funk, which is Dreamtime stuff, by the way.
We have to talk about dream time because that is life changing. So. And I want to. And I want to explain what that is and have people. Because before I heard you talk about this, about Dreamtime, I had this pattern of waking up at three in the morning with these amazing ideas constantly. Like, I'd have these amazing ideas at 3am and I used to get stressed about them because I. I like would sit there with it in my head and want my husband to wake up and he didn't want to talk about it because it's three in the morning and I didn't know what to do with them. And I.
Stop right there. I'm interrupting you for a reason to coach you here a little. The reason you're probably getting stressed because you had these big ideas and then you had so many you didn't know how to prioritize them and where to start.
Okay, good. Good coaching there.
So it could be. I just want to want you to look at that. What? Because if you're getting stressed, there's something driving that behind that. So I just want you to look at that.
Okay. Okay, good. So. But after I heard you talk about Dreamtime, I started realizing that some of those ideas were actually Things that had really changed a lot in my life for me in good ways when I implemented them. So I started almost steering the ship with them. Where I would, before I go to bed, like, do what you said and ask, like, what is the problem I'm trying to figure out? Or what is it that I want the solution for? And I just really get present with that. And it was literally, it's working like a charm. Like now I feel like I. If I do wake up, it's with those answers.
Okay, so let's go here and then we'll go there.
Okay.
Because people are gonna want me to finish about how to move, how to get out of the funk, or they're gonna be throwing rocks that are saying, why didn't you guys finish that? Okay. So I brought this funk back from Dreamtime. I mean, if you wake up in the morning and you're angry at someone or you're in a funk, that's all Dreamtime stuff that's happening at a. Happening at a different level of consciousness. And I remember that I was in Salt Lake City just on vacation, I've never been there, is checking the city out. And I woke up in a funk. And I messaged my friend Brandon, who also works with my brother in law to some degree. And I said, I'm in a funk this morning. And this is what I said. I have to move my attention because if I keep it in the funk, I'm going to stay in the funk. And so I moved my attention probably three, four times. And I'm like, whoa, this is not moving. And I had to just really, really get present and move my attention. And it finally shifted. Because to me, it's of no value to stay in these funks. Because when I'm in a funk, if I am, which has been years, which is all habit, if I am there, then I am miscreating in my life. So everyone, you've heard me say before, and people disregard. Human beings want things to be complex. Jim, show me the seven steps in the seven ways to be happy. Well, unfortunately, there's only one way to be happy, and that is to be happy. Because you can't be happy until you be happy. But people want steps to it. So I'm gonna say this and we'll go to your Dreamtime stuff is people don't get. When I say. And I mean this respectfully, guys, when I'm saying people don't get, I mean, I'm not being. I hope to be a humble guy and all this kind of stuff, but I'm telling you, sometimes I just want to shake people and say, get it already? A simple phrase. You are where your attention is. You've heard me say that before. You are where your attention is. And guess what? If you're, if you're. You lost your job. And then you bring your attention to no money, no money, no money, no money. This is what you keep recreating. And then you start talking to yourself about it even more. And then you create a self fulfilling prophecy that you're trapped in. And you don't even know that you're trapped in your own self fulfilling prophecy. So everyone, please, if you find yourself somewhere you do not want to be, plain and simple, it's because your attention brought you there. Okay, dream time.
Yeah, you're. Every time I hear you talk, so many aha moments. Okay, dream time. Yes. Dream time.
What do you want to talk.
Okay, so I want to like, let's. I want to explain. I want. If you could explain what that is versus my rambling expression. Okay, because I want. And there's a whole episode that he's done on his podcast about this that I want people to listen to too. But in a nutshell, how? Because I tried to explain what I learned from your podcast to people and then they implemented my little tidbits and it worked for them too. So I think this is powerful.
Okay, so couple of. There's a couple of aspects. We'll keep it simple and effective today. So working with a shaman for, you know, 25 and a half year, 25 years now is. Dream time is key because all the work happens in dreamtime. And dreamtime, people look at our lives as night and day. I'm awake right now, but I'm asleep when I go to bed. That is not true. That's a very limited, limited perspective of the world is that as long as you are on this planet, you have this consciousness running through you when you're awake and when you're asleep. When you're awake, you have your analytical brain going, no, you can't do that. You grew up poor, you're overweight, she's prettier than you are, he's better looking than you are, she's going to shoot you down, you can't have this, etc. Etc. That's all left brain, analytical prefrontal cortex. But in dream time, your left brain goes to sleep and you are pure, unfettered consciousness. And you're awake and dream, even though you're asleep, you're awake. Because if the alarm goes off, that's something outside of you. You hear it, but it's your unconscious mind that hears it. Now, to keep this really simple, we could work at multiple levels. But work, let's work at a practical level is the job of your uncle. I switched the words unconscious and subconscious. But most people say subconscious. The job of the subconscious mind is also to problem solve. This is where the old phrase I want to sleep on it came from. So when I have something, when I need anything in life used to be money, it's not that anymore. But when I need to meet somebody or I need a door to be open, or I need something, I will say, hey, sub meaning subconscious mind. I need an answer to xyz, bring that to me. And then what I do is I just let it go. And I let my subconscious mind work it out with my experience of life plus collecting, connecting with collective consciousness. I mean, we are in a world of consciousness, which is like a soup, so to speak. I mean, we're all connected in consciousness. So when I toss it to my unconscious mind, my unconscious mind also tosses it to the universe. Anything that I need, I can access through dream time. So what I do is before I go to bed, I set my intent unconscious mind. Bring me X, Y, Z answer or bring me etc, whatever it is that I'm looking for. And then I release all expectation and let it go. And it will come either in a dream and a metaphor and aha, when I'm driving like boom, that just popped in my mind, oh, there's my answer. It'll come at some point when I let it go. That is our superpower for all of us. But almost no one uses it because they don't know anything about it. Let me keep going here a little bit. I remember reading an entrepreneur some thread on Facebook and they said sleep is overrated. Sleep when you die. And I thought, you know what? That person understands nothing about the capacity of their own beingness as a cosmic and human being. Because dream time is where we heal. If you're physically ill, anyone, what you want to do is set your intention and you say to yourself, I want to have a dream. And in that dream I see myself healing. Because what we heal in dreamtime will heal in the physical body. Okay, back to you.
No, it's just so good. This is so good. How. And I also like what you. It's not that you wake up necessarily and have the answer. It's just. Just you're putting it out there. You're putting it to your subconscious mind and it's going to come to you. And I definitely have found that to be true. I'm wondering about the people that are self medicating to sleep. So they're saying, I don't, I want better sleep. I'm going to self medicate, I'm going to whatever. Whether it's natural stuff or not natural stuff, whatever they're doing, I'm assuming they're ruining that. They're taking away that ability to do that. Or does that not affect it?
No, it does affect. It could, it could affect recall, it could affect REM sleep. There are a lot of things I could say about shamanism, which is not a religion. It's the oldest system of thought on the planet. And in dream time, I mean, we literally connect with everything in the universe. And there's so many things that I could say that I won't because I don't want to go too far off the deep end for a lot of people. But yes, people can affect themselves or affect their ability to perform in dream time or recall in dream time by doing that. But make no mistake, if you cast the intent that like this house I'm living in right now, I bought, when I saw this house on the mls, I literally said, that is my house mls. It is my house today. Other people saw it, but it is my house because I used my will as a being and I cast my intent for what I want.
Yeah.
In dreamtime, you actually command because you can command your being because you own. When I say own, I'm going to air quote. You own your being. That is, that is your bag of skin you're walking around in right now. You own this, it's yours right now. So command it, command it to heal, but also command your subconscious mind because it's at your service to go get what you want it to get.
Yeah. Okay, I have another question for you because you talk about your brother in law, the shaman a lot. And when people hear shaman, they, they hear, they know different things or they think different things. When you say shamanism, do you. Are you including plant medicine in that? Not plant medicine. I just want to understand more what that is. And if we can explain to people what a shaman even is and why that's been such an important relationship for you.
A wonderful question. And shamanism is the old, according to anthropologists, the oldest system of thought on the planet.
Okay.
It precedes all religions and it pervades and even filters into all the religions.
Okay.
Shamanism is the word. Shamanism means one who can see in the dark. Shamanism originated on this planet in Siberia, at least in this epoch of human history. Shamans in Native American times, they were the medicine men, the healers, the seers. They were the wise men to the Mayan kings and the advisors to the Mayan kings. My brother in law is a shaman. He started when he was 6 years old in Mexico. He's a seal, he is a healer, he is a seer. And he's given me evidence for over 25 years that he can literally see into my body. Now I'm gonna give you a story here, is that for example, somebody that we know, he called me and he goes, and he knows my brother in law and he go, and he's worked with him, he said, I guess I'm totally, totally blown away. And this was just recently. He goes, my mother was diagnosed with cancer, but before the results came back, I called my brother, he called my brother in law, my brother in law, air quote, looked into it and said, your mom is going to be fine. She has cancer, but it's a slow form and she has no worries about it. A couple of days later she got the test results and the results, the doctors told him his mother was going to die of old age before she ever died of the cancer he can see in the people. But what I want to point out here for everyone listening, even though he is a full blown shaman and people from all over the world call him for healing or spiritual growth, and that's not dogmatic spirit because we're all. I use the word because it's what he uses to some degrees, we're all cosmic beings. You were somewhere before you got to the planet. You're somewhere when you leave. All that shamanism does in a nutshell is it evolves you or takes you to a consciousness where you connect with everything, the animals, the trees, the rocks, the water. Because we are all part of this bio organism on this planet called Pachamama or Mother Earth. But yet we have. Humans have alien. Alienated ourselves from this very planet we live on and the resources that we have on it.
Yeah.
So one more thing here is like plants. I listened to. Do you know who Jay Shetty is?
Yeah.
Okay. I didn't listen, but I better review on one of his, one of his, on his podcast and somebody said something like, this guy's a joke. Are you serious? He had a guest who said that some person had some guided being tell them about an herb or a healing or something. And I didn't laugh about that because that's how shamans work. They tap into higher wisdom. Pull the information. When, for example, and I won't get too graphic here, but about, I don't know, four or five months ago, my body wasn't functioning properly. Wait, Jimmy, he called me and goes, you have nothing to worry about. You lifted some heavy crystals, which I knew about. And he goes, you shot that energy into your internal organs and you were misfunctioning for a couple of days. Malfunctioning. Don't worry about it. You're fine. Very next day, I was fine. And he just does that by seeing. But he sees in the dream time. That's why I said there's much more beyond even what we're talking about.
Okay. What do you know about, like plant medicine? And do all shamans work with that or does that not matter? Is that important? Is that not.
Yes, they all work with that. For example, I. I'm always using. People don't understand this. Most people is that even pharmaceuticals have synthetic properties of the herbs. Sure. And the herbs can be used in all kinds of ways. Because there are all kind of herbs, okay. And people misuse a lot of the herbs. For example, right now, what a lot of people do, and they've asked me to introduce my brother in law, which he will not do this for people is they want to do ayahuasc, okay. Comes from the herbs. And my brother in law is like, that's dangerous because people will charge them a couple of thousand dollars, okay. Go on an ayahuasca journey. And when they're, when they're on the journey with ayahuasca, they are literally traveling in consciousness, in the universe. And it's like putting your hand in the glove. They have to come back and get back in the body.
Okay.
Because people leading these trips don't know how to reintegrate them back in the body. And then the people start having nightmares and they start getting sick and they start feeling bad. Things start falling apart in their life because they've not been properly reintegrated back into the body. So that's one aspect.
Okay.
And then the other aspect, people to.
Listen to and hear and know. Because that's become like this trendy thing with entrepreneurs.
Exactly. And somebody we both know asked me and I said, absolutely not. And he's like, well, if my brother in law, you know, she knows in my name, says no, that I'm not going to do it because my brother in law has told me, he goes, so many people come to me and I have to metaphorically, here, guys, when we used to have Phone lines. Years back in the 70s and 80s, you'd see the phone company separating all the wires in the box.
Yeah.
He goes, when people do those journeys and it's not done properly, I've got to go back in and restore all those wires to help them function properly again. That's one aspect of herbs and the medicines and the allies. But another aspect is we can use herbs to heal.
Okay.
I mean, there's a library of life, there's a pharmacy of life in herbs. And like my mother one time, just a quick example is she, she had a really brittle skin because she had brain surgery years ago and she's on all these medications. My brother in law could help her. She didn't really want to help, but her dogs would scratch her arms and they were always like scratches all over her arms.
Sure.
And he said, I want, told me, he goes, this is 20 years ago. He goes, I want you to get a pound of lard, I want you to boil it and then I want you to dump in all these fresh herbs and then I want you to boil it for a few more minutes and then strain the lard out and then put it in the refrigerator. And then once it's cold, I want your mother to start putting it on her arms like a salve. Within a week, all of her arms were cleared up. Why? It's because of the stuff in the herbs which comes from the plants.
Interesting. Okay.
And we could go for hours about this, but yeah, there's a living library.
I mean all these plants, plant medicine has a wide range. It's not just when someone hears that, it's not just ayahuasca, it's not just that there's a holding. So. So it's important to get clear on what that means.
My brother in law and I were laughing about this in a good way, not at people. Somebody told me that they had warts and he told them to take a purple potato and start rubbing. Very quickly they were gone. Or maybe it wasn't words, it was a cyst of some sort. I'll give you guys one more example here. I had this little cyst on the back of my neck a long time a couple of years ago. And I don't worry about stuff medically because I can heal myself. I'm not the one who runs to the doctor and everything else. And it got bigger really quick. And I called him, I messaged him and I said, I have a tumor on the back of my neck. And he said, who told you it's a tumor? And I said, well, nobody. I just thought that it was. And he goes, no, what you have is a sebaceous cyst. And now it's. It's infected. And he goes, this is what I want you to do. I want you to get some bentonite clay. I want you to get a powder of burdock herb, and I want you to get some aloe vera gel. I want you to mix one capsule of the burdock with one capsule of clay and aloe vera gel, make a paste, put it on your neck. Within three to four days, that cyst was completely gone.
That's amazing.
Well, the clay, as you know, pulls impurities out of the skin. And then what it also did with the gel is pulled the burdock into the skin, which is healing.
Interesting. So I. If somebody's listening, going, this is a little. Getting woo woo, or whatever it is. What I also want to share is I fully believe. If you do not believe something will work for you, it will not. Not. So I also believe that.
That, yeah, because then we go into the placebo and nocebo effect. There's been tons and tons of medical research on this where even pharmaceutical companies know this. They know that the color of the capsules will affect the effectiveness of the pharmaceutical capsules. So Drew, when he created his turmeric, he sent me a bottle and said, what do you think? And I said, because the cap on the bottle was 10 or aluminum, but it was silver. And I said, I said, the color of your cap is off. Because if you got tumeric yellow capsules have a yellow cap on your tumeric. Never thought about that. But yes. And we can even use the power of the mind. Let's say, for example, I'm in, you know, I'm just drinking some iced tea from lunch.
Sure.
Let's say I wanted to heal myself of something. What I could do is I could use the placebo effect. And this, by the way, you can laugh all you want. Anybody listening? This is medically proven. If I. Every time I took a drink and I believed, even if, even, okay, research demonstrated, even if it's not true, and I know it's not true, but I just say it to myself. I affect myself. So if I said, you know what? Every sip of iced tea that I take has a healing property and it heals my body, then I will start healing my body, because the unconscious mind doesn't know it's not true and it will start healing me.
That's so good. Okay, so my water is making me younger. It's making me smarter. It's making me wealthier.
Well, let's go here. Yes. You can do anything. But that's why I'm holding up the contigo right now is I bless this water every. Every time that I fill it up because I want to. Or my objective is to live from gratitude. And without this container right now, I would be a dead bag of skin in under three days. You know that, right?
Yeah. Because we need water to survive. All of it.
Exactly. So I operate from, okay, this is life sustaining for me. But yet we, as a culture in a world, we throw it away. We do all these things.
Yeah, all of it.
So I asked, when I drink water, I ask this water. When I fill it up, I ask this water to heal me. Now, I've not looked into it, but the guy's name is Emoto, I believe. Is that his name?
I don't know.
You haven't heard about the guy who talks about how water changes at a microscopic level? Water changes its structure based upon the thoughts around the water.
Oh, I have heard this. Okay. That's what. I didn't know that was the name. Okay. But I have heard that. Yes.
And I haven't followed any of his stuff. I've just been in shamanism for so long, and then people will say, well, how do you know that? The reason I know it is through personal experience. Because I can say, I have a brown couch in my house. And you can say, well, no, you don't. Well, you haven't been in my house. Yes, I do. So being with a shaman for so many years and seeing the healing and the power of the mind and the ways that people can heal themselves mentally, physically and emotionally by using the mind and consciousness is mind blowing. But we have that available to us.
Jim, you're incredible. I could talk to you all day. I've been. I'm gonna just. I'm gonna ask you one more question, but I'm also going to let everyone know. You must. And I. I'm a big podcast person. I don't recommend a lot of podcasts. But you must listen to his podcast. You must listen to Jim Fort's podcast, because it is. It is. It's not like anything else I've heard. It's most. It's. It is actually all pretty much him teaching and coaching. But. But what I love about you, your styles particularly, is you take like one topic on an episode and you just peel it back. So you're not. It's not like you need a notepad of, like, he's gonna teach 10 points today. It's like. It's very. It's one point that you peel back, and I always walk away with so much clarity and a new way of thinking. You shift me every time I listen to an episode. I just think you've just done such an incredible job there. It's such a gift that you're doing that for us.
Well, hang on, hang on. I know we have to wrap up soon, but do you. Why do you think I do that? Why do you think I do what I do with that podcast?
I don't know. Because I'm learning that your answers are very different than I was expecting. Why do you do what you do?
Because you influence people. And if I can influence you and you can influence more people and we all grow and evolve and we transform our lives, the entire planet becomes a better place. Gandhi used to say, he said, be the change that you want to see in the world.
Yeah.
And we all want a better world, but none of us recognizes that it can really just start with you and me individually. And if we grow and transform and evolve, then guess what? We are making the world a better place for our kids and our grandkids and all the animals on the planet and the entire planet. So that's why I do what I do in the way that I do it. So people like you will spread the word and they will help more people and we all grow together.
Well, it's working. I mean, you've taken. You've helped me take what I know and what I want to learn just a whole other level just by listening to how you share it and having me think about things different. So. And if you do go, I hope everyone goes and subscribes and listen. But go back to literally episode one. I started at the very beginning when I discovered him, and I went in order. So itunes does not make that easy for you, by the way, because it always wants to show your post. But I love that because that way I'm. You start at the beginning and you can see where he goes with it. So I do have one more question for you, Jim, and this is just something I ask everybody that's on my show. And I'm curious your answers on this. If somebody right now is listening and they're in their own personal rock bottom. So maybe they were Drew that doesn't know if they're going to pay their rent next month.
Right.
They just had a business failure, relationship change, health scare, whatever it is. And you were to give them three pieces of advice. So they can start creating everything from nothing and changing this. What would you tell them?
Okay, okay, okay, got it. Okay, so three, very, very quickly. Here is. Number one is my brother in law. I picked him up at the airport one time many years ago. And he said back then he called me cuniado, which is Spanish brother in law. And he said, how are you today? And I said, I'm great. And he's like, yeah. He goes, when your external world is great, your internal world is great. And he goes, you're working backwards. Your internal world must always be great. It must always be 100% because your internal world is not determined unless you choose by the outside world. Number one is start living from the inside out. Number two is I said earlier is you are where your attention is. So if your life is upside down in the external world, that's where most people's attention goes and it keeps them upside down in the external world. Move your attention. And then the final one is this. And this is a big one for a lot of people when they really get it. Everything always has been, is now and will always be okay. When you really get your mind around that, you know, for example, 2009 with you, things flip upside down. Are things okay today? Yes, they're always okay. Things are always okay. But it's our interpretations that not makes. That makes them not okay. Then we get into all the external world and it's like pulling the plug in the bathtub and the water just drains down and your thoughts just drain down with it. Work from the inside out, not the outside in.
Oh my gosh, this is so good, Jim. Where can people find you other than your podcast too? What? Where can they find you?
Yeah. Jimfortin.com I strongly suggest I have a program there called the Master Thought formula. It's a 90 minute video training. It's free and it shows you literally, literally. Not marketing, hyperbole, nothing. It shows you how to transform your thinking in a matter of seconds. It's called the Master Thought formula over@jimfortin.com.
I'm downloading that today. I don't know why I haven't before.
No, you're going to. You're going to like. I think you're going to love that because I show people how to move their attention just like that.
That's so good. This is so good. Thank you so much, Jim. Thanks for leveling up with us today. Please share this episode if you found it helpful. Helpful.
