133: Your Excuses Will Never Fix the Problem

A motivational talk on ditching excuses and solving your actual problems. The speaker shares personal stories about health and fitness struggles, pushing you to stop explaining why things are hard and start fixing them instead.
Foreign Friday, where I share an insight from me to you. All right, I've got some real talk for you today. Your excuses will never fix the problem. All right, here's the deal. I promised not to people, please, anymore. And I am so committed to helping people break through what's in between you and your results. So this is important. Your excuses will never fix the problem. You see, excuses, they feel good. They give us a reason, they give us an out. They allow us to not risk or get uncomfortable, and they also allow us to stay comfortable in a situation. Now, when others validate our excuses, we also feel heard. But excuses don't fit the problem. They don't fix the problem. Think about it. You have an excuse. Something's wrong. It's really wrong. It's a fact to you. It's happening. It's in your way, between you and your goals. You share it with somebody else, a friend, a family member, and they say, you're right, that sucks. You're right, that sucks. But my question to you is, does that fix the problem? Because it doesn't. It just makes you feel good in the moment. You see, every single person on this planet can come up with excuses. And when you focus on those excuses, nothing ever changes. Now, people that are successful, people that you look at, that have amazing results in their life, they don't focus on excuses. They focus on solutions and overcoming excuses. And there's a big difference. You see, your excuse may be very real. I'm not doubting that it is. And there is always also a possibility of a solution for whatever excuse you're dealing with. So why not focus on that? There's no opportunity in fixing it or coming up with a solution. If you focus on that excuse, focus on the possibility of the solution. So, for example, for me, I've got millions of excuses that I could at any given time say, this is what I'm living through. This is what I'm dealing with. And every single one of you would understand and say, I know, I get it. You're right. That sucks. And you wouldn't blame me for giving up or quitting. For example, I, a couple years ago, had a massive disc rupture in my lower back. For those of you that know the anatomy of a back and a spine, it was between L5 and S1. I had a bulging disc for years, but I had way overdone it and it ruptured out. It was a severe rupture. It was so bad that it wrapped around my spinal cord, the disc rupture, and it Cut off use of my right leg. And I literally was dragging my right leg around, like dragging it. I had what's called foot drop and I had crazy intensive pain. It was heavy on me. It was so heavy on me. And I was feeling stuck in that. And it was interesting how many people I would talk to when that was happening to me, the different things that would come up. I had a lot of friends that would say, you're right, that sucks, that's awful, I'm so sorry. And that kept me there. But it was the people that were saying, let's look at what we can do about it. Let's make this happen. Let's look at the opportunities that changed things for me. Now I ended up personally with that rupture and emergency surgery and there was a long road of covery down the road. And even now today I struggle with pain in my lower back and I struggle with nerve damage on my right leg. And I find solutions every day. I'm sharing with you right now as I'm, as I'm sharing about the struggles with it. But that is not where I live daily. Daily. It's what do I need to do to get through this to make it better. And I've learned, you know, eating anti inflammatory foods, doing certain physical therapy moves, staying regimented with my workouts, doing cryotherapy and some alternative treatments, all helps me stay in a better place. Because if I stay focused on the excuse and what's not working, things will never change. So I stay focused on the solution. Janine shepherd is somebody I interviewed a while back on my podcast here. And she was somebody who was in a horrible accident. A truck had hit her, she was paralyzed from the waist down, told she would never walk again. Doctor after doctor. You'll never walk again, Janine. You'll never walk again. She was so depressed and so sad and so stuck on that. And it was a very real excuse, of course. And so many people validated and sympathized with her, but it wasn't making her better. So it wasn't until she decided she was going to find a solution, she was going to focus on the possibility of a solution, that things turned around for her. She put everything into the possibility of that solution. And today she's a documented walking paraplegic. She focused on the solution. There's so many excuses. We all have them. We all have them. I could go on with mine. I have an autoimmune disorder. I have a daughter, I have a husband. I have business to run. I don't have time. I have a jammed schedule. There's no extra time. I could go on and on and on. My excuses are no different than your excuses. Excuses, maybe they are, but how we handle them could be very similar. We can all focus on solutions. You see, for every single excuse or problem that's out there, there is a solution if you decide to look for it. But that's the key. You have to decide to look for that solution. So here's some of the most common excuses and solutions, by the way, and I hear these all the time on my social media, especially on my fat loss and nutrition and weight loss social media. I hear all the time things like, I can't afford it. Okay, let's just unravel that for a minute. So if you can't afford something, does that mean it's money's fault that you're not fit? Does it mean it's the other people's prices that's your fault that you're not fit? I'm going to have you look at a solution. A solution would be you could work out at home with your own body weight, right? You could walk more, you can eat cleaner. And if you're thinking I can't afford clean foods, like yes you can, because it can be simple. It could be tuna, it could be eggs, it could be broccoli, it could be unprocessed natural foods and it could be very simple. So saying I can't afford it is a total example of an excuse because that might be very real to you that you don't have extra finances, but you also don't necessarily need extra finances to get healthy and fit. Walking is free, water is free, moving your body with your own body weight is free. Google is free for information. So that's one example. Another common excuse that comes up is I don't have time. I hear that one a lot. I don't have time. And what I want you to know is that we find time for what we are passionate about and committed to all the time. You can always find 10 to 20 minutes a day. And if you don't believe me, I want you to just for a moment imagine that your role model, your idol, your favorite celebrity pick your. Pick somebody, an athlete, a favorite celebrity, someone that you look up to that you think is just the cat's meow. Everyone's got that somebody. Think of that person. Now imagine if they messaged you right now and said, hey, I want to meet with you tomorrow at 4am, just you and me, one on one. Would you find time to make that happen. I bet you would. I'll tell you right now, if Oprah called me and said, meet me at 4am tomorrow morning, I would be there with bells on. It would happen. So I would make time for that. See, we always find time for what we're passionate about and committed to. Always. Another common excuse is I don't know what to do. I hear that one a lot. I don't know what to do. And what I'm going to tell you there is use Google or ask. See, with information technology, gosh, everything is just a click away, so it's easy to figure out what to do. And then here's another one that this is a super heavy one. And I, and I, I really do get it when people are in here and they don't see the other side. But a big one is, I'm injured or I'm sick or I'm diagnosed with something. And listen, I get it. That is very real. It is very, very real. And I'm going to tell you to do what you can and find evidence of someone else that's in your situation that is doing it. Because there's always an example. You see doctors, they give us These percentages, like 75% of people this or. But what about that small percentage of the ones that are breaking through and doing it? Focus on them, on that, on that possibility. Because you have nothing to lose there. When you stay focused on that excuse, when you stay totally stuck on that excuse, you will just find more and more evidence of why that excuse is ruling, is ruining ruling you. So you have nothing to lose by looking for that solution. So you can try to argue with me, this might have triggered you, and I totally get that. Or you can try it on. Because if this triggers you, if this topic triggers you, you especially need to hear this now. It's interesting. I recently posted this topic on social. Um, just, just to share a couple of the comments that came through. Somebody said to me, for instance, she said, it's very easy for you to be fit because you are a fitness professional. Okay? And I just want to take that, unravel that for a minute. So if that's something that, that she thinks or somebody thinks, does that mean that if you were all of a sudden a fitness professional, you would be fit? I don't think so. And also, I'm not really a fitness professional. That's not how I spend my days and my time anymore. It's still always a choice. It has nothing to do with that. There are many people that are not fitness professionals that are very fit. And there's also fitness professionals that are not fit. So that again, is another way of looking at an excuse and staying focused on that versus looking for a solution. I also had somebody comment and say, easy for me to preach because they because I have money. They said, well, first and foremost, I want to share. They don't actually know my financial situation. And I also have built things from nothing many times over. So. And if you don't know this about me, what I will share, and I shared this in an earlier episode, is that I actually built my business from the ground up while I was hugely in debt and my house was in the process of being foreclosed. So there was that. So again, if we look for supporting evidence on the excuses, we will stay stuck there. But if we really get committed to finding solutions, we can change everything. So I'll go back to what I said at the beginning of this. Your excuses will never fix the problem. Never. And all things have a possibility of thriving and turning around all things. There's always a possibility. So you have literally nothing to lose by focusing on the solution. But if we stay stuck in the excuse, we will never, ever fix our problems.
