158: Happiness is a Choice (or is it?)

Joey Coleman argues that happiness comes from consistent habits, not feelings. He says to act toward your goals even when you don't feel like it, and the results will follow. Your emotional state shouldn't stop you from doing the work.
Welcome to Fit for your Mind Friday, where I share an insight from me to you. Happiness is a choice. I know you've heard that quote, but hold up. Nope, it's actually your habits now. You've seen the quotes, you've seen the memes, you've seen the posts around social media that happiness is a choice. But I want to ask you, have you actually chosen happiness? And have you actually chosen your goals with your habits? You see, when I ask clients or members of my aging and reverse community or my friends, what do you want? I always get some goal that leads to their reason why of so I can be happy. Think about it. Think about who you've asked that question to. What do they always say, so I can be happy? You see, the goal is not really what the problem is. It's how we think we get there that's totally broken these days because we think that we have to feel a certain way and that when we do, when we have that feeling, that that feeling will lead to the new actions and ultimately the results. But no, that actually never works. It works temporarily when you numb it out, and I know many people do that. When you force it under alcohol or drugs or other masking behaviors, you can temporarily give you a fake feeling, but that's not really the answer. You see, you may never actually feel like it. You may never feel like it. Do you think successful athletes always 100% feel like doing their training? They don't, but they do it anyways. Do you think that leaders and change makers, that they always feel like doing what they've got to do? Nope, but they do it anyways. Do you think the entrepreneurs, the people I've interviewed on leveling up here, that they always feel like doing what they've done? Nope. But they did it anyways. You see, it's the habits and the actions that lead to change and then results like Nike always said, just do it. They actually got it. So for 2019 or heck, you know, just start with this month or this week, or today, or even just right now. Choose to do the habits anyways, regardless of your feelings. That will get you the results. It's a choice, it's a decision. And then it's doing the habits. Even when you don't feel feel like it, just do it anyways. Even when you don't feel like it. And sooner rather than later, you start to become the result of this new habits. Are you in.
