This is a YouTube video titled "How to Get Perfect Curled Hair From Sweaty Hair | Natalie Jill" created in July 2014 featuring Natalie Jill and Ashlyn. The content is a tutorial-style conversation where Natalie Jill and hairstylist Ashlyn demonstrate how to transform sweaty, post-workout hair into glamorous curls using simple techniques and tools. Ashlyn shares professional tips on curling hair with ponytails and dry shampoo, making it accessible for viewers to recreate the style at home.
Hi, guys. Natalie, Jill here. And when I asked everyone what do they want to see Next on my YouTube channel, I got a request for how the heck do I curl my hair? I thought you guys wanted abs, thighs, booties, but you want to know how I curl my hair. So I'm going to show you how I do my hair today. And how you go from sweaty, gross gym attire. Right, right. To fab and glam, because that's what I'm about to do. And how. How many times have you had your sweaty, gross workout? And then, you know, you have a night out and you got to fix your hair. So we're going to show you all of our tricks on how we do it, whether you have an Ashlyn or not, because she's going to show you. Because I don't think you want to watch me doing it, but we're going to show you what she taught me how to do. Ok? So going from sweaty, gross ponytail to glam.
Ready?
Ready.
Set, go. Awesome. So I love this only because I love when my clients are able to recreate a style that I create on them inside the salon. And like Natalie said, you know, not everyone has a personal hairstylist. Not everyone gets that awesome luxury. But I really like when people are able to take home the idea or the, like, real conception behind the style and able to recreate it. So this is going to be super simple. All we're going to do is create for ponytails. What this is gonna do is gonna make it super quick for you to get all of your hair curled. I know a lot of the time it's hard to get all of your hair, especially in the back on the top. All of that can be a little tedious. So these ponytails are gonna help you get there. And now Natalie's gonna look super awesome. I love it with all these fun ponytails. The higher you put the ponytail on your head, actually is, the higher the curls are going to be. So we're just working through. And you, you don't have to make them neat either. You don't have to worry about doing super clean parting, but we're just going to work on getting those ponytails in there to begin. Seriously, how am I looking? Do you feel six years old again?
I feel very hot right now.
I learned this along my hair journey, and I love this trick. It's super easy for everyone, like I said, to recreate at home. Hi.
It's a good thing I don't have a mirror in front of me right now, because I probably wouldn't let you film this.
Love it. Okay, now you're ready for a slumber party. So all you're going to need to do is, is you're gonna need to grab a curling iron. Whether it's a cheap curling iron, expensive curling iron, whatever your price point is.
Mine was like, 15 bucks.
Yeah, perfect. That'll work.
And then everyone always says, what size barrel curling iron?
1 inch. I like to do 1 inch barrel only because it's super. It's gonna get that nice ringlet in there, and then you could work through it with your hands and break it up a little bit so it's not like, super prom esque. And then grab a. A soft hold hairspray, and you're just going to spray down those ponytails just to give a little bit of memory in there. Awesome. And then what you're going to do is something super simple. You're just going to work through each ponytail and do four little ringlets. If you have a little bit of a skinnier ponytail, you can do just a simple two or three ringlets. It really depends on the density of your hair and. And what you're working with. Natalie has a lot of pretty hair, so we're probably gonna do about four in there.
The thing that this totally helped me with is that I used to be that person that would curl my hair, and then I would think it looks all cute, and I would go out and somebody would be like, how come there's like, four big chunks in the back that are totally straight? Because I would leave it out.
Exactly.
You can't avoid getting all of the curls right.
Yes. This is definitely a good insurance. It has your back, no pun intended, because the back of your hair is going to be curled as well, which is hard to do by yourself for sure. But this will be your own personal hairstylist. I love to give little tips and tricks like this for people to take home.
Another thing you taught me, which is key, is to not curl from the end up.
Right. A lot of people do that. Start at the top. Always have your barrel facing down as well. It just gives the curls a lot more, you know, a better shape, and it gets that wave in the top of your hair, which a lot of the time, people don't get when they just curl the ends. That's why a lot of times people are like, why is my. Why are all my curls falling out? What's going on? But if you start at the top and you face your barrel pointing down, you're not going to have that challenge. So Just working through. And it's super simple, super quick and easy.
And for the sweaty mess you taught me, she taught me about dry shampoo. So using dry shampoo, so before I put it up in the ponytails to spray that all over it and it quickly gets that sweat away.
Yeah, I know a lot of people don't like to wash their hair every day. It's actually not the best for you to wash your hair every day. So dry shampoo for people with finer textures or they're always hitting the gym. Dry shampoo is your best friend for sure. You're not going to have to deal with that greasiness or any of the sweat. Dry shampoo just cleans your hair right up in a flash.
How am I looking?
You look awesome. 4 ponytail alien. If you want to hit the ponytail, the ponytails as well and let them set with a little more hairspray, that will help for sure. So again, just doing four little ringlets. Okay, cool. So now Natalie has all of her four curled ponytails in her hair. I'm going to start taking them down and so you can start to see the shape that starts to happen in her hair real quickly. Try not to pull too hard on your hair. Just lightly take out the hair tie so you don't ruin the formation. So now that all of your ponytails are down, you can go ahead and hit it with some hairspray all over. You really want it to hold all night, whatever your plans are. And then you can go ahead and run your fingers through it as well. And. Perfect. Oh, yeah.
