Natalie Jill explains what causes lower belly fat and the pooch, then walks through diet, exercise, bloating, skin elasticity, and pelvic tilt to address it. She covers the specific mechanics of why this fat sits where it does and what actually works to lose it.
Hi, I'm Natalie. Jill. Today we're talking about how to lose that lower belly pooch. I always get asked, how do I get rid of the pooch, that bloat, that extra belly, that extra stuff, the pooch, Everyone wants to get rid of it, and we're going to talk about that today. There are four things that you can attribute lower belly fat or that pooch too. So I want to go over those with you. There's four things. The first one is the obvious one. It's that fat, that lower belly, extra fat. And to lose that, that's lost through two things. One, a deficit in calories. You have to deplete. You have to lose and eat less calories than you are actually using in a day. You have to eat less of them or burn more off so you can attack that fat and lose it. You also have to increase the intensity of your workouts to tap into that fat. So it's not just diet, it's also the intensity level of your workouts. And that will attack that fat because you can't just spot reduce, but you can lose that overall body fat, which will definitely show up in that lower belly pooch. The second thing that would cause lower belly pooch is, is bloating. So a lot of times we think it's fat and it's actually bloat or that water retention and bloat is caused from a number of things. One of them is when you eat a high processed food diet and artificial sweeteners. Those things will cause bloating, especially artificial sweeteners. Those will cause a lot of bloating. And processed foods, very high in sodium preservatives, artificial stuff that's going to cause bloating. Another thing that could cause bloating is allergens in your diet. And some common ones can be dairy, the lactose in dairy, and also wheat or gluten products. Those could cause bloating. So keeping a food journal and knowing what foods are causing it is key. But a big bloater is the artificial stuff, the artificial sweeteners, artificial foods, a lot of preservatives that will create an uncomfortable bloat. And it's really key to eliminate those foods if you're dealing with that bloat. Another variable in bloat could be water retention, and that could play a role, especially from hormones, especially with females. Different times of the month, you're going to experience more water retention and you actually need to drink more water to lose water. I know that sounds funny to people, but the more water you drink, the more you're going to not retain the water and not hold onto it so you can get rid of bloating that way. So we've covered the first two areas. The first two is fat. Overall body fat can make that lower belly pooch. So second one is bloat. The third one is extra skin. And I get a lot of questions about extra skin. And when you lose a lot of weight fast, your skin does not necessarily catch up. So the elasticity will not necessarily catch up. So it's very hard to have it rebound to how it once was. Also having a baby, that skin is not reversible. But what you can do before you give up on, I have this skin. Do I need to have surgery? Do I need to fix it? What do I need to do? You can drastically change the appearance by losing that overall fat and by developing the muscles in those area which will drastically change the appearance. So the skin may not go completely back, but you won't be able to see it as much because you've developed muscles in that area and because you've lost the overall body fat. And that drastically changes the appearance of the area of the skin. But there's not an exercise that will reverse that skin. The fourth thing that comes into play with that lower belly is the pelvic tilt. And let me just show you what I mean there. On a lot of people, especially women, they've got this anterior pelvic tilt, they've got this C curve in their lower back, and it sometimes comes from years of wearing heels, the way that they're standing. And when we do that, we're creating the C and it looks like our stomach is sticking out. It looks like a pooch. It looks like a lower belly pooch. And by correcting that tilt through specific exercises and habits, you can change the way that that looks. It's healthier for you, and you get rid of that pooch appearance. So there you have it. There's four things that contribute to lower belly pooch. It is the overall fat, which you want to lose through diet and intensity and training. It could be bloat, which is primarily from diet. It could be C skin, which we can't reverse, but we can change the appearance through diet and exercise. And then there is that pelvic tilt. So you want to make sure that you're not dealing with that.
