Ladies in your 40s, 50s and beyond, this is for you. If you are wondering where the muscle has gone, you've wondered what's happened to your metabolism. It's not in your head. We do lose muscle as we age. We also, our metabolism does slow down, that is true. And the less muscle we have, the less calories we burn at rest and the slower our metabolism works. So muscle building is absolutely key, especially in midlife. So what do you do if you've fallen behind and you haven't done that? Well, you've got to start doing some resistance training again. Now, that can be body weight. You just have to create resistance. You've got to create a load on those muscles. You've got to create progression and intensity on those muscles to help them grow. And you have to fuel them for growth, which means upping your protein. You want to look at adding almost your body weight in protein every day. Now, the best window for protein is pre and post workout. So typically adding about 20 grams pre workout and 20 grams post workout, that might feel like a lot, but it's going to make a big difference with your muscle growth. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn at rest and the better your metabolism is going to work.
