The Minerals You MUST Not Ignore for Optimal Health with Beam Minerals

This is a YouTube video titled "The Minerals You MUST Not Ignore for Optimal Health with Beam Minerals" featuring a detailed conversation between Natalie Jill and Caroline Ellen, founder of Beam Minerals. Recorded in 2024, the discussion focuses on mineral deficiency in Americans, the impact of soil depletion, the importance of minerals for cellular health, and the benefits of plant-based minerals like humic and fulvic substances. Natalie Jill and Caroline Ellen explore how mineral supplementation supports overall health, including energy production, muscle function, and detoxification, while addressing common misconceptions about mineral supplements.
Ninety percent of Americans are mineral deficient. It's true. I didn't realize it, but it is true. And mineral deficiency can be a lot like having your head in the clouds. It could be this foggy head that we think something is wrong with us, and it could all be linked to mineral deficiency. I've gone full down the rabbit hole around minerals. I've tried all the products. I've looked at all the stuff. And I cannot wait to bring this episode to you today because I've got Caroline Ellen, who is the founder of Beam Minerals, which is my new favorite morning drink. I don't even know if I'm taking it right. We're gonna get all today. But it is quite amazing what I've been reading about it, what I've been learning, and I have so many questions. So thank you so much for being here, Caroline.
Oh, I'm so excited. I love to talk about minerals. I can do it all day.
So let's back up a little bit. That was pretty shocking of a statistic when I learned that, and I learned that actually on your site when I was looking at minerals. About 90% of Americans being mineral deficient. How is that even a thing? How did that happen?
Right. You know, first of all, it is so surprising, and we tend to think of, like, nutritional issues being a third world problem. It is absolutely a problem for every human on Earth. And there's two really three, but two main reasons. And the first is that our foods no longer have the nutrient density that they had in our grandfather's time. I really like to give pictures for people to understand these things. So when a plant goes grows in the soil, the way that it creates all of its structure, whether it's a small little pea plant or it's a great cedar tree, is by using the minerals in the soil. If you look around your room and you're sitting on a chair and there's a table in front of you and there's walls and doors. Do you know everything is made of minerals? Your body, all structure in the universe is made of minerals. So the way those plants get the minerals to build their structure is by sucking the minerals out of the soil. Now, we've cultivating, so we grow plants in soil and we carry it over there and we eat it somewhere else in nature. Those plants grow, and then they die and they decompose, and all of their mineral substance goes back into the soil because we've been cultivating and doing this, taking the minerals away. The soils themselves are mineral deficient. And this has Been an issue since 1936, when they had, I mean, that's how long it's been an issue.
Okay, you just explained something that I think most women, especially because that's, most of my listeners are women here, didn't understand. We hear soil depletion, and I don't think anyone really connected the dots. So what you're saying is soil depletion is really this idea of mineral depletion that when plants would die and fall apart and go back into the soil, we would cultivate there, but we've disrupted that. Am I hearing this correct? So now that's where that's coming from.
Exactly. So we've been cultivating in the same soils in the same locations for hundreds and in some case thousands of years. And, and those soils, and getting some nutrients back into the soil is not hard like nitrogen, but getting minerals back into the soil in the, in a way that is actually bioavailable and utilizable by the plant is as difficult as it is to get into the human body. It's the. Do you know, we actually, at a cellular level, we work very much like plants. So the bottom line though, in terms of mineral deficiency being, you know, everybody having it, you'd have to eat today like 7. Some people say 11. So a huge number of apples. To get the same nutrition from a single apple that your grandfather ate. That is.
So this is where when people start saying things like, oh, I don't need supplements, or I don't need to supplement anything, I'm getting off my food. That would have been true many years ago or in high doses, but it's not the case now because of soil depletion and because of quantity.
Exactly. And you know, I'm in the process of writing a book and I've actually put in there kind of some algorithms, some math so people could understand how much they would have to eat to get all of the minerals that they need in their body. And it's simply not possible. I mean, I don't care how well you eat, whether you eat organic, you eat out of your backyard garden. Even when you have your backyard garden, you're still growing in the same soil. Now there are ways that you can amend your soil and get the minerals back. Guess what? It's the same thing as be minerals. And lots of farmers know about these plant based minerals for this reason. But this is the.
What would that mean when you say there's lots of ways they would do that? Like, would that be them supplementing something into the soil or would they be doing.
They'd basically be taking these kind of what we call plant based minerals or humic and fulvic substances and they would be putting them back on the soil in a way that the soil actually where it doesn't just blow away. So a powder doesn't really work, it has to be a liquid. So when people are doing compost teas, if you have any gardeners in your audience and they use compost tea on their backyard gardens, that's what you're doing. You're actually putting humic and fulvic back into your soil. So you're putting the minerals and the nutrients back into the soil. Micronutrients we call them.
I have a lot of questions about humic and fulvic, which I'm going to get into in a minute. I want to wrote it down so I don't forget. But I want to bounce back a little bit because I want people to understand what goes wrong in our bodies, in our health, when we are mineral deficient. Can you help us see that?
I can. I'm going to mention one other reason that we're really struggling with mineral deficiency and why there's been this ramping up of complex chronic health symptoms, you know, groups of chronic health symptoms affecting a huge number of people, which is a result of mineral deficiency and depletion. And one of the big reasons is we're all drinking bottled and filtered water now and most of that water has no minerals. So I've spoken with so many women in kind of perimenopause, menopause and they're like, yeah, I moved to this great new house and it's got a versus osmosis filter under the sink, so all my water is filtered. And then six months later they're having problems with their teeth, they're experiencing deficiency or even worse.
Distilled water.
Yes, and distilled water. Exactly. So again, if you're drinking bottled and filtered water, what we really want to do is remineralize your water. So you know what's wild?
So I drink, I drink either remineralized or just mineral spring water. It's what I'm drinking right now out of my glass container for this reason. But what's so interesting about this is in other countries they don't have the amount of filtered or purified water like we do here in the US I don't. What is that about that's so interesting?
Exactly? Well, first of all, it's expensive. And second of all, in many countries they have gut bugs that can handle a Lot, a lot more impurities. You know, if you go to Mexico and you drink the water there, chances are you're going to get. You can't have problems, you know, whereas the Mexicans can drink the water without any problem. So.
But I just noticed, even buying bottled water, you know, I'm in Italy or in, you know, anywhere in Europe really, that you would buy your bottled water, it's in a glass jar and it says mineral or spring water. But you buy bottled water here and it's almost impossible to find it in glass. And it's almost impossible to find mineral or spring. It's all, it says purified or filtered, which is just tap water being filtered. Yeah, yeah.
Welcome to America. Yes.
So let's talk about some of the health problems that people are not realizing are associated with mineral loss.
I really love to tell my story because.
Yeah, please.
It's really impactful because a lot of people, particularly women, recognize themselves in my story. So. So I was in the corporate world, you know, super mom, you know, kids raising kids alone and working full time or more than full time. And I completely, I mean, it just trashed my health. I had flatlined adrenals for almost two years and I worked, went to many different practitioners trying to heal my adrenals. I had really bad inflammation in my gut. I had been gluten free for seven years and I was unable to get over the gut problems, dysbiosis, bloating, you know, discomfort that I had when I ate, different things like that. So the enzymes and all of the flora were completely imbalanced. I had really bad inflammation in my mouth with receding gums and actually bone loss in my teeth. I had deep pockets, really inflamed gums, lots of bleeding. And I had been also to multiple dentists saying, what is wrong? There's got to be an answer for why this is happening. Couldn't really find any answers. I had lots of expensive things done.
But you were doing the type A way of fixing things that a lot of us do. Like, I'm just, I'm gonna find it and fix it right now.
Exactly. And partly, you know, we're, we're trained to think of our body as parts, right. We think of, you know, well, if I have a heart problem, I go to a heart doctor. If I have a skin problem, go to a skin doctor. If I have a hormone problem, go to hormone, you know, on and on and on. But truly, this whole body, and this is one of the beautiful things that has come out of my learning about minerals is I see my body now as an ecosystem, like a forest is an ecosystem. So I think of the whole thing and I try to work with my body in that way. So in addition to all of these other problems, I also had recurring sinus infections every six to eight weeks. And I know now I'd had mold, a really intense mold situation at one point in my life. And so that was also affecting me. So I was introduced to these plant based minerals and they were liquid and, and these little cups of liquid and I would take them every day and, and I'm also not person who loves to take pills. So I often will be like, I don't want to do it because they were liquid and they tasted like water. I easily drank them every day. And two months in I went to my dentist and I'm just kind of going around along in my life. I'm a very driven person. I'm used to working through how I feel. So didn't really notice that much difference. I was pretty disconnected from my body actually. And my dentist looked in my mouth and she just explained, she's like, oh my gosh, what's different? The tissues are all pink and healthy, your pockets are way much better, there's no bleeding. Like what is different? And I kind of thought about it. I'm like, huh, I don't know, maybe it's these minerals I'm taking, you know, she's just said, well, keep taking them. And then four months in, I had my adrenal test. I'd been trying some different things with a practitioner, but she had wanted me to take hydrocortisone, which I was unwilling to do. But when I did the adrenal test, my adrenals were up one third of the way after two years of trying so many things. And they were always flatlined. They were one third of the way up the chart with this. Just from adding in minerals, just from adding in minerals. I changed nothing. I didn't change my diet, I didn't change, add other supplements, nothing. So I'm really like a, a good guinea pig because, you know, I have low thyroid. So I did take thyroid, but that was it. I wasn't even taking hormones at the time.
Wow.
So then I started, went through a season, another season, I my, I didn't get my sinus infections. And over the space of about eight or nine months, all these issues, my gut problems, my elimination issues, they all resolved. And that's when I started going, how could this be? Like all these things I've worked with? So I mean, I'VE spent so much money trying to heal all these things and lots of different fads and diets and, you know, trends and different, you know, cures. And. And really what I learned through the research is that I was severely mineral depleted and had been for years. And particularly, you know, when you have a bab. You know, I had two sons. And when you grow a baby in your body, the way that the structure of that baby grows is also by taking all the minerals from your body.
Yeah. Wow. You know, it's so confusing for midlife women, me included, to know what the cause of things are. You know, you have the age that happens, right? So I'm 53. You have the age happening, then you have the hormone swings, and then you're like, well, is it my gut health? Is it the air I'm breathing? Is it the water I'm drinking? Is it. It gets very confusing.
Yes.
What do you want people to know about minerals? Because to me, this sounds like such a simple solution that is so vastly overlooked. Why have we missed this?
Yeah, you know, it's so interesting. I get this question a lot, like, why. Why don't people know about minerals? And, you know, I honestly have no idea. The only reason that I can think is this. Doctors know nothing about minerals. And historically, all of our medical learning came from doctors and even naturopaths. I talk to naturopaths, you know, many times a week. They don't know about minerals. They don't know how minerals. I mean, in the process of writing this book, and so I asked a whole bunch of different people, can you name five minerals? And they're like, oh, sure. And then they start thinking like, well, I don't know. You know, so simply, it's like years ago, we'd never heard of probiotics, Right. We had no idea about the gut microbiome. We just, you know, garbage in, garbage out, you know, we didn't really have any concept of it. So there's. This is just what's happening now. And I'm personally on a mission to bring this knowledge about this fundamental foundation of health that minerals represent. And this is the thing. Minerals are the foundation for life. Look everywhere in your body. Look everywhere around the world on earth. Look out. I mean, everywhere. It's minerals. When I sit with. On panel discussions with health and wellness people, and they're coming, they're talking about their particular, you know, curative or health practice or, you know, biotech thing, you know, and by the end of the panel, they're all saying, and without minerals this thing.
Wow.
Help you at all and this. Yeah, go on.
I'm just having this flashback to being a kid and our vitamins that we took, and I'm sure they were not the best quality vitamins, but whatever. The chewable vitamins that we took used to say vitamins and minerals, but now when you buy a bottle of vitamins, it doesn't say vitamins and minerals, just vitamins. So it's interesting. That's even. It's almost lost its popularity. It's weird. But we need these more than ever now.
Well, and you know, it used to be when people said, when it said vitamins, minerals, really what they were talking about was iron. I mean, that's about. That was about it. You know, basically, you know, you had iron fortified this and that, you know, milk and different things, because they learned that people got anemic if they didn't have enough iron. But really, that is not our issue at all. So the thing that I want people to begin to understand is this. Your body is made of cells. Your entire body, every single part of your body is made of cells. There's like 37 to 150 trillion cells in your body. So the conceptual amount of that is it's hard to imagine. And they all work together in these systems. So your heart cells know to be heart cells, and your eye, the cells in your eye know how to be eye CE lips. I mean, every cell has a job, an intended purpose, and each purpose is very specific. And it is, when you get into it, it's absolutely miraculous. So there's no way that you can really try to hack your body at a cellular level with things like what we call our minimum RDAs, you know, minimum daily requirements or daily allowances. Because those things don't take into account your lifestyle and my lifestyle and our eating styles and our exercise styles and our. And our genetics and our epigenetics. They can't address those. So first of all, we have to throw that out. And then we have to begin to look at our body as an ecosystem. And we have to understand how minerals work with cells. So here's the thing that was to me, like the theory of everything. I was like, when I got this, I was like, no wonder I was so struggling. Okay, so inside your cell, there are these mitochondria. Many of us have heard of the mitochondria. Mitochondria are like energy generating units for your entire body. Now, I want to give you a sense of scale of this. So on the back of your hand, in a single cell. There's maybe one to 200 mitochondria in one cell in your heart, in a single cell, 5,000 mitochondria in your brain. There can be up to 2 million mitochondria in a single cell.
Wow.
And what these mitochondria are doing is they are generating energy constantly. That's what their job is. They're generating these energy units called ATPs. Okay, and what's the fuel? That's the thing. What fuels the mitochondria are amino acids and minerals. That's it. Amino acids and minerals. Your body makes a lot of amino acids, not all of them. And you can eat enough amino acids easily to get what you need. But not minerals. Your body makes no minerals. They all have to come from the outside.
How many? And maybe these are really basic questions, but I'm just going to ask because I'm very confused by it sometimes. How many minerals actually do we like? How many are there? How many do we need? And is there sort of hierarchy of like these are the most important?
Well, there's a couple of interesting things. So there are minerals that they know we use in all sorts of biosynthesis processes and energy generating processes in our body. And then there are all the minerals your body is made of. And I have this beautiful map of that shows like for a hundred pound person, how many pounds of minerals there are. And what's really interesting is mostly your body is made of gases, which is crazy. I mean hydrogen and oxygen, which makes H2O, which is water, is actually. These are actually gases in a liquid state. So. And everything else in your body is minerals. Now there are about 17 minerals that are essential. They're not nice to have. They are essential that you need to have in your body, many of which we've heard of. You know, we think about electrolytes. Those are minerals. They're just minerals with a strong electrical charge like magnesium, potassium, sodium, chloride, these things. Yeah, There are things that people have no idea that they need that they absolutely have to have. Things like vanadium, molybdenum. Many people have heard of selenium, chromium, zinc. We've heard of because, you know, we know it has something to do with the immune system. There's 17 really essential.
17 critical ones.
Critical ones. And, and we. I'm happy to provide those if you want to put those in the, in the notes. Yeah.
So when someone is just supplementing individual with these things, that's not really approaching the problem. So like a lot of people take magnesium. You know, I Take magnesium every night. A lot of people take selenium or they're taking these as one. Is it more important to take them combination? Does it matter? Like help us with that understanding?
Yes. So here's the, here's the trick with minerals. It is impossible to solve the algorithm of what minerals your body needs, when it needs it, where it needs it and how it needs it by taking supplements. You cannot do that, at least by taking single, what I call megadose like that magnesium you take at night or different these. Because this body is an ecosystem. This is probably the, one of the things I'd like people to walk away with more than anything else. We're used to taking a pill and it having an effect. You know, we have a headache, we take something, get rid of the headache or. And that's mostly what we're looking for. When we're looking for solutions, we're looking for something, it's a quick fix, I don't sleep well, I take magnesium or have elimination issues, I use it or whatever. The thing is with minerals in particular, mineral balance is as important as mineral levels in your body. So it's actually not helpful for people to go. I've spent a lot of time in the supplement aisles talking to people who are picking up pill bottles and they're going to buy and they're going to, they're going to have. They have eight bottles in their thing and they're going to take.
That's been me at times. That's definitely been me at times, yes.
And then what happens? They end up in the supplement graveyard in the. That's right. You're like, I don't want to take all those pills. Oh my God, I don't want to do it today. So what we want to do is go back to nature and this is where plant based minerals come in. So think about this, think about when cellular life on this planet was first developing. And the way it developed was there were these mitochondria inside the cells and there were no minerals inside the cells. They had to come from the outside. So there had to be methods to make that efficient. Otherwise cellular life would not have thrived. So there are natural substances called humic and fulvic which naturally provide the complete balanced amount of minerals. That's one of the beautiful things about the plant based minerals is that they are actually designed by nature in this to have the same ratios of minerals that your body utilizes.
So when you say that, I just want to make sure I'm understanding. So basically when you take fulvic or humic. It is already a combination of all those things that you're talking about. So you wouldn't need to go take separate selenium. Am I understanding that correctly? Because it's all. So it's all in there.
Correct. And even, you know, for you, you haven't been taking the minerals that long and I get that you're using probably magnesium for sleep or.
Yes, yeah.
So what I'm going to give you a challenge and I'm going to say I don't know how long you've been taking the minerals, but you will not need that over time.
Interesting. Okay, so I want to understand, explain to me Fulvic and I want to make sure I understand this Humic and folk. I've read everything on your site. I've listened to other episodes. I'm still not, I want to understand what those mean.
Yeah. So let me explain what they are. So first let's talk about what plant based minerals are and where they come from. Okay, so imagine the planet 65 million years ago when the dinosaurs lived was covered. There were so many rainforests, freshwater plants growing in these rainforest settings. And a meteor hit the Earth, hit the Yucatan and in a few hours it killed like 75% of all life on Earth. And these, all these rainforests died and decomposed. They became a strata of soil or earth underneath. They're about 10 to 12ft below the surface of the earth and it's a black crystalline. The material we use is called humate. There are other humic and fulvic substances around the earth. They have shilajit, you've probably heard of that, from the Himalayas. They have something called pete in the British Isles, something called black soil from the Amazon basin. But this humate material is a black crystalline kind of powdery substance. And inside of humate there are these two molecules. And it's really important to think of them as molecules. We've heard of humic acid and fulvic acid. I'm talking at a more basic level before they've become acids. Okay, so humic molecule and fulvic molecule. Now the beautiful thing about these molecules is that they represent mother Nature's mineral replenishment technology for cellular systems. Plants, animals, organisms, okay? Both of them together carry this full spectrum of all of the minerals your body needs in the natural ratios that your body needs them so they don't cause imbalance. You can drink a lot of it and it still provides it in the correct ratios.
It's not going to over toxify your liver or Anything like that, you're fine, right?
Exactly. Exactly. And your body, because of the nature of humic and fulvic and how long they've been working with your evolved cells, the cells that have been evolved from these processes for millions of years, your body recognizes humic and fulvic as beneficial substances. Now let's. Let's talk about specifically how they work. So beyond the fact that they carry all the minerals your body needs, they have two. They have amazing capacities. So fulvic is a transporter. It's called a bioflavonoid. Many people have heard of a flavonoid. Yeah. What is it? It's a transporter of minerals and nutrition into your cells. It's like if you're in a room right now and you've got a couple of doors and a couple of windows, and outside of each door and window you've got a guy with a backpack and he's filling it full of all the good stuff you need, and he comes in and he dumps it all out on your desk. Now you've got everything that you need for the day, and you can pick and choose what you need, when you need, where you need it. So that's the first capacity of fulvic. It's something called CO transport, which is a type of. It's a way of bringing nutrition into your cells in a very, very efficient way from the bloodstream into your cells. So that's the first thing about fulvic.
Okay.
The other thing about it that's so cool is that it's a very, very small molecule. It's much smaller than a cell, so it absorbs extremely easy and easily into your body. You could. You know, we have a fulvic spray you can spray it on from the outside. You spray it on your skin here. I'm trying to get it to spray. And it will absorb right through the skin, right into the muscle in three to five seconds.
Wow.
That's how quickly your body absorbs it. I mean, exponentializes the capacity of your body to get the benefit from the nutrition that you're bringing into your body.
Okay, this brings me. I've got a lot more questions about minerals and I want to ask about bone and menopause and specifically there. But I. But while you just sprayed it, I want to not forget to ask this about the product because your minerals are newer to me and I've been using them now for probably almost two weeks, so. And I don't even know if I'm using them right. So I'm going To tell you what I'm doing. So I have your sprays, and I've been spraying the big bottle kind of just on my. On my body because I knew that it would absorb. And then you have the Happy Lights, which I spray on my face, and I'm breathing them in. So how much is it topical versus you're breathing it in? That's my first question. And does it matter?
Yeah, so you can. So Happy Lights, which is this one. It's the same as our. What we call our instalites, which is a fulvic spray. It only it has bergamot in it. Okay. So the way that Happy Lights works is you spray and you breathe it in. And the bergamot is. It's an essential oil. They call it Mother Nature's Prozac. So for most people, when they breathe, when they smell bergamot, it triggers the release of endorphins in their body.
Oh, Happy Lights. Okay.
It will change your mood. Like if you're feeling anxious or having, you know, true panic, or if you're have feeling depression, you know, on an ongoing basis, this breaks the cycle.
Wow.
This is for people who have anxiety or panic. This is like. I'm telling you, they love this and they will never go anywhere without it.
Can you overdo it? Like, I mean, some people. I might want to be doing this a lot more throughout the day now. Is that I do.
I keep. That's. You can see why it's almost empty. Yeah. No, I keep this on my desk and I wake up, I come in in the morning, and I'll just sit down and I'll give myself a sp spray, and then I get going. You know, the instalites that has no scent is also a great way just to get a quick pick me up of electrolytes. And you can use this. Let's say you have a sore muscle. I had a sore calf because I went on a big hike and I just sprayed it on that calf. By the morning, the calf felt fine. Well, it was still maybe 20%, but it felt dramatically.
So I have an interesting little testimony for you. So I have nerve damage in my right leg because I had a disc rupture between L5 and S1 years ago. And I had foot drop and my right leg wouldn't work for. I went through the whole thing. I had a surgery to remove the rupture. I've gotten a lot of my strength back, but I. It's almost like my brain is slightly disconnected from my legs. So sometimes it's delayed a Little bit. So I'll trip sometimes or there little things, because it's like there's a slight delay. So if I push it, like, if I wear high heels or I do something that I really shouldn't ideally do, and I push it, I get severe leg cramps in the middle of the night. And I would explain it like a charley horse, where it wakes me up like my calf is in a knot. And I have been getting those a lot lately, and they wake me up in the middle of the night. I got to get out of bed. I got to like. Well, I started putting your spray on it before I go to bed, and I'm not. And I know it's only been only like, two weeks, but I have not had that happen. So I feel like there's something happening there to relax that, which makes sense to me.
Every cramping muscle is a muscle that's mineral depleted. So think of the mitochondria in the cells in those muscles in that local area.
Oh, that's how we take potassium.
They have literally run out of minerals that can create enough energy so they can't generate enough energy to release the muscle. That's exactly what that explains why people.
Say, eat a banana or potato. Now I'm getting it. Now it's connecting the dots. Okay, but this is topical, so it's going in faster.
Exactly. So you spray this on in three to five seconds. It's absorbing into that muscle.
Wow. So if I'm even having a cramp episode, you could spray it on there and it could help alleviate that. But you want to do it before, obviously. Like, I've been. Well, now I don't want to go to sleep without it because it's definitely been.
And you're better. I always say use it preventatively. Yeah, it's nice to use it if you do get a cramp. And sometimes I'll get a foot cramp. When I'm stretching in the morning, I just spray my foot. Boom. It goes away, you know?
Okay, so now I want to talk about the liquid. So I was taking. I'm not going to say the brand, but I was taking a mineral every morning that tastes like salt water. It's literally tastes like salt water. And the first thing I do, I wake up, go to my fridge. I would take a big swig of it, and I was getting. I don't know. I don't. I don't know much about it. And then some people told me to use it, so I was using that. So I have switched to yours. And I want to understand the difference because like, yours does not taste like salt. Yours has no taste, even though it looks like it would. Can I be doing that on an empty stomach? Why doesn't it taste like salt? And how many times a day should I actually. And should anyone listening? Because I know this is not personal just for me right now, but how many times should we be taking this?
Yeah, so a couple things. The minerals that you were taking before are called salt based minerals. They're mostly salts. Okay. They're magnesium salt or you know, they're potassium chloride. That's a salt. You know, so they're, they are salt based. They come from sea salt or, you know, Himalayan salts.
Yeah, mine came from sea salt for sure.
Okay. Yeah, that's cool. If you look at the actual mineral content of those salt based mineral supplements, they'll have five or six minerals in them unless they've been amended by. And so sometimes they'll take a salt based mineral thing and then they'll add, okay. You know, they'll add other things like calcium, etc. A whole bunch of minerals. And these are completely different than the plant based humic and fulvic.
Okay. So you could technically take it with it if you wanted to. I would imagine you probably don't need to, but you could take ours with.
The other salt base.
Yeah, like could you? Or is that over?
You could, but. So here's what I want to explain the difference. Salt based minerals do provide minerals into your system and they are actually fairly bioavailable, which means they digest pretty easily and they absorb through your gut lining into your bloodstream. What they don't provide is the transportation for those minerals into your cells. So people, and this is when people are going to get blood tests to find out what their mineral levels are. I say that's not helpful. If you want to go get tested to find out how your body is doing in terms of mineral deficiency or not, you need to use either hair tissue, mineral mineral analysis, where they take a piece of your hair, or the. The real state of the art is something called oligoscan. And oligoscan uses spectrophotometry. It's used in material sciences. And it will tell you what is what minerals are actually in your tissues. Because minerals remember where the minerals have to be inside the cells, right?
Not just in your body.
They have to get inside your cells and that's your tissues, not in your bloodstream. So people are taking all these minerals, right? And guess what's happening? They're clogging the Liver, they're clogging the kidney and their body is constantly eliminating. So I work with a lot of athletes and what happened, they've used lots of salt based electrolytes and then what happens is they're urinating more, they're getting lots of cramping because now they're dehydrated and they're flushing and they're not replenishing. So this is the difference between what I call supplementation as opposed to what plant based minerals do, which is replenishment.
Got it. Okay. So if you're taking a salt based something that you still like, you could still do that. It's just not. You're not getting the complete stuff system like you would with your. With beam minerals, for example.
Yeah. Can, you know. Yeah. And what I say about the salt based. The only challenge with the salt based electrolytes is if you think about your digestive tract, it's a freshwater system, it's not a saltwater system. So salt based electrolytes were first developed by the military for soldiers who were in acute electrolyte imbalance from trekking for 30 miles. Okay. They're not truly good for the body when used on a daily basis. If you want to use it once in a while. Because you.
When you're hiking the Grand Canyon or you're.
Yeah, right. That could be a really good. Yeah.
I like to have. I like the salt like if I'm going to go. If I'm out. I live in Phoenix right now, so in the dry hot sun, like I can. And I need more salt. But tell me about yours though. Like first of all, can you take yours on an empty stomach? Should you be taking them on empty stomach? Does it matter when you take them? How do they have no taste when they look like they do? I have so many questions about that.
I mean, so that part of the reason they have no taste is because of the way that we process our minerals, which is only with extremely pure, extremely filtered and structured water.
Okay.
So the proprietary process that we use just creates these incredible liquids that are ionic. Now the beautiful thing about ionic is that that means the minerals are in their base form. They require no digestion. Absolutely zero digestion. They are ready for absorption into your bloodstream the minute they enter your body. And you'll never have to shake the bottle, they'll never fall out of suspension because they are bound to the water molecules.
Okay, I didn't know that. So thank you for letting me. Because I was shaking and I didn't know. See, this is what happens When I just start taking things without full, that's why I was like, I have to have her on and understand all this.
So you can't take your salt based things. Your body refers they're flavored. Usually they require digestion. It takes about 18 to 20 minutes to actually absorb into your bloodstream. And again, if you don't have enough flavonoids, enough transportation for the minerals into your cells, then they're great. It's gotten into your bloodstream, but you don't necessarily feel an effect. Kind of a cool story is we go to bike races and we'll go at the aid station and the bikers come in, they're going 50 miles out, 50 miles back, and at the aid station they arrive and they're like shaking, they're like cramping and they don't want to take the salt based electrolytes because they trash their stomach and they end up with stomach cramps. And they don't really don't like that. Sometimes they'll use pickle juice or they come over to our station, they're like, well, what do you guys have? And they drink a drink of our electrolyzed product, which is the fulvic product. And literally 30 seconds later they're like, whoa, what just happened? Yeah, that's crazy.
So I have your little shot glass and I it what I like is that you have like a measurement for each. You make it very simple. Like you add this much here of this and this much of the electrolyte. So I pour it in and then can you drink it plain or do you have to mix it with water.
So the electrolytes you can drink totally straight. Okay. The micro boost, which is the dark one, that's what I have in my glass here. So the one thing for people out there who are very sensitive, maybe they've had mold exposure, Lyme's disease, they have autoimmune, or they've had long Covid and are in these sim. These systems tend to be very sensitive to what we call Herxheimer responses, which is a detox response. Okay.
Oh, okay, that's making sense. Okay.
Yeah. So it when because so we haven't actually talked about what the humic does. So we'll talk. This will lead into that. So the humic, which is what's making this glass this liquid dark, is a different kind of molecule. It's a large molecule. I like to imagine it like a Velcro ball. It's got a huge amount of surface area and it's extremely sticky. It's one of the strongest electrolyte molecules known to man.
Okay.
What it does is it lives in your bloodstream and it just travels through the bloodstream picking up bio waste, toxins, heavy metals, senescent cells, which we call, people call them zombie cells, things like glyphosate. And once they are attached to that molecule, the molecule completely binds them to the molecule. So it's the best binder you can have. Ultimately, this molecule gets so heavy at a molecular weight, it falls out of suspension. It leaves your body through all of the elimination channels. So many detox protocols require different channels to be open. And this one, it will use your snot, your sweat, your tears, your skin, just cells sloughing off, of course, your feces, the bottoms of your feet. It will use every channel and any channel that's open. So, you know, some people who've never taken humic, they'll take it for three days. If they're just taking it as a shot, they might start to get a rash. I, I will actually, since I had Covid, I get this very easily. So this is why I just throw mine into a glass.
So if you throw it in water, you avoid that effect.
Exactly.
Okay, you're, you're. This is making a lot of sense. I should have talked to you before. I started just taking them in my quick start personality because I was drinking them with water and then I did a shot of it yesterday and my stomach hurt and I was like, wait a minute. So I was like, I need to ask. That makes sense though, because it's like if I were to just go take a bunch of binders on an empty stomach too. The same thing, you know, and this.
Is what I want people to think about. So think about what we know about the gut microbiome and how many, you know, organisms and beneficial bacteria and enzymes and everything. How many things that it's this beautiful environment that when it's healthy, it's like a really beautiful forest, right? There's the right amount of water and light and nutrients and fresh air. Now go take a wheelbarrow of magnesium and throw it in the forest floor. What do you think is going to happen to the plants in that area?
Not going to go so well.
They're not going to thrive. So this is the thing about, if you begin to think about your body as an ecosystem, you start going, okay, maybe I don't want to hack it it so intensely. Yeah, maybe I want to just take a little magnesium in a very bioavailable form. You say rather than 240, 350. I don't know. How much magnesium do you take every night?
A lot. Well, hopefully my audience is a little smarter than me sometimes because just like when I was first learning about hydrogen water, I'm like, oh, not a little, a lot. And then I tell you, I go, I. Or I just get my sauna, I'm like, oh, not a little. I'll go in every day for an hour. So I'm a little extreme with trying things. Maybe that's my add. I don't know. But that's how I learn too. Sometimes I just do and then I learn. That's my process. So this is fascinating. I will tell you. No question I feel different with your sprays. I mean, I had that happen mood. And also the cramp on my.
This.
My right calf specifically. And I'll report back if that changes. But right now, that's working for me at night. And I do feel a boost of energy taking your minerals. So my question is, can I take it more than once a day? Like, I noticed you're drinking it right now. And does it matter? The timing is there. Do you recommend a specific time?
Yeah. So many people will take electrolytes in the morning, and both of them can be taken empty stomach, especially with the micro roost with water. So they don't break a fast, which is nice if you are doing any intermittent fasting. So they'll take the electrolytes in the morning because then it's helping as you're taking in all your nutrition during the day, it's helping availability of all that nutrition. So that's really good. And they'll take micro boost at night because that's like a cleanup, you know?
Okay. So I can flip it. Then I can do one in the morning and. Okay, that makes sense to me.
And. And if it's hassle for you and you're just not like that because you don't want to have a lot of protocols, you can throw them both in your water bottle and drink your water bottle during the day.
Okay, so as long as you're getting them. As long as you're getting it. And then what about the.
Oh, sorry, let me tell you about. Well, let me just finish the soap. Yeah, you can. They're like tools. Okay, so the fulvic is about electrolyte replenishment. So you're saying like, you like. Because you go out in the hotel sun, you could just have an extra shot of electrolyzed and throw it in your water bottle when you go out for your walk. If you're out in the sun. That's great what you're doing out there. But you know, what are you doing out there?
I like nature and I happen to live in a hot area. Well, like if I hike, I really feel it. That type of thing. I get dehydrated quickly, so.
Yeah. So. But what I'm going to tell you is that the using the Fulvic rather than the salts will be more hydrating to your body than the salts.
Well, it makes sense because the salt has. You're going to have that adverse there. What about when you try. Like I'm recording this today and I'm getting on a plane tomorrow. And the reverse thing I thought was, oh my gosh, I'm going to be gone six days, I'm not going to bottle. So you. I have the pills. Now, how effective are those pills and are they just meant for things like this when you're traveling?
Yes. So what I'll say about the pills is they are fantastic if you have already, you know, been taking the liquid for a little while because the pills are very concentrated, so they're not as bioavailable because they do require digestion and breaking down. Once they're broken down, they operate the same as the liquids in your body in terms of being able to be absorbed very easily and being able to support that intercellular transport. Okay. But they can for people who have, I would never say just start taking our electroboost capsules because you could have Herx detox responses.
So like if I've been taking the drink for two weeks, I could take the pills now maybe on the. Okay. But I have to be aware of that if it.
Yeah, exactly. I would be. We also, just so you know, we do have travel packs. Small, little. We have like 3.4 ounce small bottles for that are good if you're going on a short trip. If it's a long trip, the, the capsules are better. But I just want you to be aware if you're going to go on your trip and you start with the capsules, you know, see how you feel. If you're, if you feel any of that discomfort in your stomach, you might want to actually only take like half a capsule or.
That makes sense.
You see.
Well, and it's the same thing a binders would do to me too. If I just started taking a bunch of that like charcoal or something. What is the. I'm looking. If you all are watching on YouTube, you can see what I'm saying. If you're listening, you don't know what I'm talking about. But I see on the left everything I pretty much tried. But what are the brown bottles on the other side that I see?
Those are. These are our pet products, so.
Oh, you. For pets?
Yeah. So in the same way that for you as a human, here's the dog.
Okay.
And they're just slightly formulated so that they're easier to dispense.
Okay.
For a dog, what you would do with this is you would put it on their food. Not in the water.
Not in their water.
And it comes with a dropper top, actually with a measurement.
I have to try those too. I've got a dog.
So, yeah, we always do a test. Oh, I should send them. Send some to you. I'll send them. And then there's electrolytes also. What we do is we. We say take your dog for a walk and when you come back, fill up one bowl of water in water and another bowl of water and put some of our electrolytes in there and just see which one. Which one.
Oh, that's. And I believe it. That's like my dog going to my red light matter. Like, it's beyond me, but I'll see that he literally gravitates towards all the, like, the biohacky things that I like. I'm like, how do they know that? How does he know the red light's good for him? What is he exactly?
Isn't that amazing?
That is amazing.
A woman who. She's a zoologist. She went to every animal in her zoo and did that test. Every single animal chose the water.
Wow.
Actually, she used my very in touch.
With what they need and they know innately. I do have some final Just questions. I want to wrap this back up to midlife women specifically, because there's two things that really got my attention more so than just all the other benefits of the foggy head and focus and energy and pain. One of the things I'm very passionate about is the bone loss conversation in midlife. And I'm a big fan of women understanding where they are with bone and strength training and really having enough protein to put on muscles. You have bone. Where do beam minerals help tie into that? Because I know that they really do support bone. But can you help us understand that?
They totally do. So, first of all, I want people to. I'm going to use this example because it really illustrates my point. So I work with some elite trainers who work with aging athletes, and these athletes have taken a lot of. Of electrolytes over the years. Magnesium and potassium Particularly to support their high performance careers.
Okay.
And now as age, they're aging and guess what? They're getting osteopenia and osteoporosis. Okay, and why is this? This is because when you put a large amount of potassium or magnesium in your body, your body has to balance it. Because minerals work in pairs, triumvirates and quads and they have to balance. So when you put all that potassium, magnesium in your body pulls calcium from your bones to. And phosphorous to balance, to create balance. Okay, so this is why you don't want to be as an aging woman. I know lots of women are using magnesium for sleep, but this is why I'm telling you it is not good to do on an ongoing long term basis on a once in a while if you are just needing it. Okay. But I highly, I really don't recommend it on an ongoing basis, particularly for longevity and bone health. Okay. Okay.
Something to look at. Now. I'm addicted to magnesium every night. So I don't know, I'm gonna have to look.
But I hear you, I have. So what I want you to consider doing is titrating down. I'm going to tell you in two months, no doubt in two months you're not going to need the magnesium. You're going to be sleeping, you're going to be sleeping, you're going to be like, whoa, that's interesting. Okay. And there's lots of reasons for that. But so we also do have a great article we can put in there about bone health, Fulvic in particular. Remember, because fulvic is supporting the uptake, uptake of minerals into the cells. Your bones are made of cells.
Yeah.
So a couple of different scientific studies that show that fulvic does support in the hardness of bones.
So my next question was going to be about menopause and how this, that transition. But I would imagine that's what you would tie it back to. Is the bone, is the bone the thing, the main thing? Or am I missing something else with menopause?
Well, here's the thing we have to understand as you age, your mitochondrial function in your body. So in the past you had 2 million mitochondria in a single cell that were active. And now maybe you only have 1.5 million. And as you age, there are things that people are finding like hydrogen water and things like that that can support this health of your mitochondria as you age. But just naturally, you're going to have fewer active mitochondria. So guess what? You need more Minerals to support the mitochondria that are active. So I say personally, if you did nothing else for your health, absolutely nothing health, you would take mineral, you would take a full spectrum mineral, you know, a trace mineral, like a beam minerals or other full spectrum trace minerals.
So this might be a weird question, but when I shared this on my Instagram story that I was taking minerals and I was going to be interviewing you and I mentioned that it came from rainforest matter and I actually read that and I said, it can't I. And I said, I don't really know what that means yet, but can you help us understand that? Like, I know you said you have a whole filtering process or whatever, but why rainforest and what, what actually happens?
Well, so again, when, you know, 65 million years ago, when those meteor hit the earth and all those rainforests died, that material, literally imagine this material is the energy of an entire rainforest into. It's like a strata of earth about like that. Yeah. Okay. And luckily there is a lot of it. So people don't have to worry about sustainability and we can go into that another time. So the difference is saltwater plants, freshwater plants, humic and fulvic only come from the decomposition of freshwater plants. And rainforests were freshwater plants.
Makes sense.
So that's when we say they're rainforest soil. I'm trying to determine. I don't like that language. That's an old language that we used in the past. What I say is they come from decomposed ancient rainforests.
Okay, that makes sense. I'm glad I asked that though, because I didn't fully get that.
That's confusing. Yeah.
Can we talk about hormone regulation a little bit? Because I know I'm, I'm personally a fan of hrt. I know not everybody is and I've had a lot of guests on about HRT and I, and I personally do small doses of it, so I don't have hot flashes and things like that now. But how can minerals actually help with hormone? Maybe it's hormone balancing or. What are your thoughts around that?
Well, one of the things that I've learned through my research and studies is, you know, hormones don't exist in a vacuum. They actually, it's. I call it the three legged stool. And Anna will be, Anna Kabeca will be all over this. You know, the three legged stool is your hormones, your adrenals and your thyroid. The interesting thing about all three of these is that hormone production is completely created via biosynthesis processes that require minerals. If you don't have Minerals, your body is going to struggle. Now. I was mineral depleted for years and years and years I struggled to get pregnant because my body didn't have enough progesterone. Okay. It did not create enough progesterone. I had low thyroid. I had flatlined adrenals. This whole stool and the adrenal gland actually stores minerals, a huge amount of minerals in the gland. So one of the first things gets hit when you're mineral depleted or deficient is your adrenal function. And then that affects the hormone production and it affects the thyroid production.
And I think even all my hormone experts would agree maybe not. We didn't go specific to minerals. But they will all say that you want to have your body in balance first. So even experts that love hormone replacement, they'll never tell you to do that. Instead of it would be in addition first to get your body right and minerals would be included in that. Caroline this has been so insightful for me. I have a feeling listeners might have more questions and but, and I will make sure I am. We are checking the YouTube comments and so forth. But for those of you that want to learn more, if you go to Midlife Conversations.com forward slash beam Midlife Conversations.com forwardslash It'll redirect right to the website of everything we're talking about. And if you use coupon Natalie Jill, they were very generous to give you a discount by using coupon Natalie Jill. So go check them out. And I personally, I'm personally if you want to know what I'm doing, I'm using I have both of the big bottles and I have them in my fridge. You don't have to keep in your fridge. I am, I was doing both in the morning. I'm going to switch it up now and do one in the morning at one at night. Electrolytes in the morning. I also have the pills for travel and but she said don't start with the pills. That's later. And then I have the sprays and I love the happy lights. In fact, I'm going to need to have more happy lights. I'm going to put one on my desk. I'm going to put one by my bed now. I know I need it in all the places. I think it's brilliant and I'm bringing it on the plane with me tomorrow.
Great.
Thank you so much for being here today. This was so helpful. Thanks for answering all of my questions.
It was absolutely a pleasure. Really enjoyed it and I look forward to answering any other questions that show up.
