Who is Ideal for 'The Nutrition School'? | Natalie Jill

This is a YouTube video titled "Who is Ideal for 'The Nutrition School'? | Natalie Jill" created in October 2015 featuring a conversation between Natalie Jill and Keri Glassman. The video is an interview-style discussion where Natalie Jill hosts Keri Glassman to talk about the Nutritious Life certification program, covering its curriculum, target candidates, application process, and the unique combination of nutrition education and brand building. The content is aimed at individuals interested in nutrition certification and building a nutrition-related business or practice.
Hi, Natalie. Jill here. Welcome back to Unprocess yous Diet. Today I'm here with my friend Keri Glassman.
Hi.
And we're talking all about the nutrition school. She does. I was so interested in this, and so many people have asked me about nutrition and credentials and where you. How you can learn and be certified to share knowledge about nutrition. And when I met you and learned about your school, I thought, this is something I've just got to share. So thank you for being here.
Oh, my gosh, I'm so excited to be here. You know, I'm such a big fan, and it's so fun just chatting with you whenever we get to chat. So this is so cool to be here chatting with you about my. Really probably. I mean, I've done a lot of different things in my career, but this is my absolute passion project. Even though I went to nutrition school, even though I got my master's of science in nutrition and became an rdn, I didn't have the tools to actually sit down and say, how do I build a practice? How do I educate people? How do I build a brand? I didn't have any of that knowledge. So that's what the nutrition school really is about. It's this nutritious Life certification for people to really be able to take that passion and turn it into their dream.
So it's a little. So it is the nutrition education, but it's also the process for the brand building.
Exactly. So it's, you know, so we say it's the nutritious life certification, where part of it is actual sort of like Nutrition 101. I say, so you're really getting, you know, the facts on, let's say, fats, carbs, and protein, for example, and, you know, the truth on different fad diets. And you're getting that science, you're getting that research, and also getting some anecdotal evidence, you know, things that have worked for me that I know have worked for clients. So you're getting a lot of real science, a lot of anecdotal evidence just from obviously having a practice for the past 10, 10 years. But you're also getting that brand building, building a business. How do I actually take all this information and talk to people in the right way? Because that's the other thing. A lot of us nutrition people out there have a lot of great science information. But taking that science and putting it into language that is usable and relatable and understandable can be kind of a skill on its own. So I help people do that, and then obviously also help them build their.
Brands, which to me sounds like that's a huge thing that sets you apart from other certifications, because you're getting that business and that brand building.
You're getting both of them. And what I always say is, you're getting it from somebody who did it and who made. I made a lot of mistakes, and I did a lot of things right, and I'm happy to share. I was like, I want to tell everybody all of those things so I can then help people eliminate some of those mistakes, grow faster, grow better, and then we can all accomplish the nutritious life mission of reaching as many people as possible and helping them take their nutrition up a notch.
So talk to me about who is a candidate for this, because initially I'm thinking, okay, would they have to have some type of other nutrition credential? That's my first question. Do they have to have that to.
Go to your school? Yeah. So that's a great question. And people ask me that all the time, but I'm not an rd. I'm not a registered dietitian nutritionist. Can I do it? And I say, absolutely, and here's why. There is an application process, by the way. So we have an application process because I do believe that there should be some background, some knowledge or some level of passion. I just don't want people signing up, hey, I guess I'll do this, you know. You know, on a whim. I really want people that are extraordinarily passionate, really want to, you know, be educated on this and then share and then share and be part of this mission and part of this community. It's great for dietitians who've just sort of gotten or building a practice or have just gotten their degree and say, okay, now I have this degree, but where do I go? What do I do? There's loads of handouts and tools that you can use for your clients so you don't have to, you know, start from scratch and reinvent the wheel.
That's great.
So it's great for them, but it's also great for all different types of people in the fitness world who already are probably knowledgeable, have a great amount of knowledge, but really want that. They really want that foundation, nutritious nutrition philosophy to follow. So they also. It gives them a leg up, too, that they can say that they have this nutrition certification. They become part of a community, so they can always be bouncing ideas off of other people in the community. We have a great Facebook page, a great community Page, they can talk with people. And then also it just gives them a foundation to follow. And if they want to go further and not, let's say, train or teach yoga, but actually sit down and educate people further in meal planning. They have that, you know, again, that foundation from a dietitian. And I always say, put your own twist on it. You know, everybody, we're all counsel. When we counsel, whether we're training somebody, whether we're counseling someone, whether we're giving a lecture, we all have our own unique styles, and we all should have that. But having a foundation and a philosophy to follow and note that can be sort of your guideline is so useful and powerful.
Okay, so a few more questions. What if somebody listening, because I know I've got some people listening that would say, well, I just want to learn the knowledge about the nutrition from my own knowledge. I want to lose the weight. I want to get healthier. Would you recommend this for them?
Okay, so perfect question, because then I do actually get a lot of applicants like that that say, you know, I have been. I'm the one among all of my friends that is always telling everybody everything about nutrition. They're sort of like the nutrition guru among the friends, you know, like, or among the family. They're the one that tells everybody the new products out or the new research that came out. And for those people, there is a place there. And I would say that's why, again, I have an application. So I'll say, you know, this person is educated. They may have no nutrition education, but they're super passionate and they want to use this information to. To educate further their family or just have that sort of like taking a class, like going to a class, going to a university and auditing a class or something. Like, you might not want it to have it to actually then sit down and build a brand around it, but you really want that knowledge. So we're absolutely. We take those applicants. We absolutely consider those people. For sure.
That's great. Okay. Because I know I would have a lot of people interested in. I'm sure there's a lot of people interested in that.
Absolutely.
Some states require you to be an rda, some certification. We talked about that a little bit because I don't know how much, because I know you're based out of New York, but you do the certification anywhere for anybody.
Correct? Right. And so what you can say definitely, you know, does vary per state. So what I'll always say is, you know, if you are a. Let's say you're a Registered dietitian. Doing it. You're a registered dietitian. And then you can say you are Nutritious Life certified. Got it. Okay. So you're Nutritious Life certified. That's my certification. That's your cert. You know, that's. That's. It's just. It's like having an extra, let's say a kettlebell certification or something on top of whatever specialty. Exactly. So that's what it is. So I don't say you take this Nutritious Life certification and you are a registered dietitian. No, it's a specialized certification for whatever. You already are. That's why when I first did this, I thought, okay, I'm a registered dietitian nutritionist. I'm going to do this for other registered dietitian nutritionists. And then I thought about it and said, wait a minute. There's all these other amazing people that are colleagues and friends of mine and people out there that I know and that are not registered dietitian nutritionists and are brilliant and have so much amazing knowledge to share. Why would I not want them to be a part of this?
And I can think of so many. I mean, I think of every transformation I've ever helped with, even, like, they would love, because they're friends saying, what are you doing? I think of people with all the different supplement companies out there that are calling themselves health coaches. Having this would help their business. Or there's just. It's unlimited. I mean, chiropractors, dentists. I really feel there's a huge audience.
For this, and I want to empower as many people out there to help as many people as possible.
No, what I love, because I have not dove into the academy or the training, but I'm going to now because I'm so interested in this.
But I've talked enough about it.
But I really. What I really feel strong about is there's so many trendy diets out there and the gimmick of the weekend, do this, do that. And what I like is you're really teaching the fundamentals like that works with. With anybody I know. We talk a lot about. I talk about unprocessed natural foods, and you're going back to the basics with people. And I think that is a big area we miss from all the health coaches and all these people out there. So just teaching them the basics. What's a protein? What's a carb? What's a fat? What happens to your body when you're eating certain things? That is so important. Just the basics right there. Well, first of all, two final questions. What does this look like? What does the training look like? I know you said it's, you can go at your own pace. There's something launched every week. But I want to really get into the nitty gritty. What can someone expect if they're in the academy? And then really important, how do they apply to be a candidate for this first question?
So you actually, you know what, I'm going to answer the second question first. So when you apply, you can apply actually any time of the year. So it's really ongoing applications. It's always up on our site, so you can apply. But we actually only launch the class three to four times a year.
And they small classes.
And so they're small classes, although we're growing them small. And I always say the reason we're growing them slowly is I like to keep them fairly small. To be able to handle even all of the questions, to be able to handle the customer service.
You're getting a lot of attention in this. They're getting.
They're getting a lot of attention. I want to be able to answer emails personally. I want to be able. If someone needs to get on the phone and really talk about one of the lessons, I want to be able to get on the phone with somebody. So we are keeping them fairly small, but as you know, we're building and growing, and as things become a little bit, you know, just a little bit more uniform, we get to. We've been able to grow them a little bit. But anyway, so about three times per year, we actually accept people. And then we start a class. So you can apply anytime. And then there's that sort of early, early application process. And then we have the, okay, you've got about two weeks to apply, get your applications in, and then we say there's a launch date if you get in. So once we actually launch the class, there's 12 webinars. Each webinar is somewhere between 20 and 40 minutes long. They're all taught by me. Hi. They're all taught by me. And then after each lesson, there is a quiz you take. You pass the quiz, you move on to the next lesson. With each lesson also comes handouts. There's loads of handouts, which is more backup research on whatever the topic is. And then there's also things we call tools. The tools you're supposed to print out. You can print out the handouts also, but the tools you're supposed to print out and you can copy them for your clients. So Again, it's not reinventing the wheel. So even like an intake form, this is the form you can use. Print it out, use it for your clients. Here's another handout on sugar. Take it, print it, copy it for your clients. So we've done a lot of that work for you. Then there's also. So every week also we do, we're posting on Facebook. So we have this great community that's ongoing. Obviously you can do that 24 hours a day if you want. You can be involved there. And then throughout the 12 weeks we also do other live webinars where I'm just going through in a little bit more detail whatever the topic was. Maybe it's. The topic is difficult clients and so I might do a live webinar on that topic. So there is additional webinars. We even do mock sessions. Okay, so I'll sit down with one of the other dieticians at Nutritious Life and we'll do a mock session for.

It's really again it's an application process but it really we are open minded to everyone because there are so many people out there that are so passionate. I mean the big thing is passion for nutrition, wellness, fitness. That's really the main don't apply if you don't have passion for nutrition. But if you have passion for this field, which so many people do, we're really open minded.
