Your Liver Is Screaming - Your Pills Aren't Helping

Lindsay Burrell, founder of The Patch Method, explains why pills fail mid-life women: your liver processes them away before your body absorbs them. Her transdermal patches bypass the gut and liver entirely, delivering micro-doses of nutrients like sulforaphane, adaptogens, and GHK-Cu peptides straight into your bloodstream over 12 hours. Users report better sleep, hormone balance, and hair growth without the toxic load of pill stacks.

If you're like most midlife women, you have been to an appointment or a doctor and had some blood work done, and then you're told you need to take a list, a stack, a drawer full of supplements. Now, I'm all for supplements, and I know some of you are attached to yours, but do we need the excessive amount that we've been taking? And what is this doing to our gut, to our liver, to our system by swallowing a handful of pills? And can we be making matters worse. And why, if we're taking all of the things that our doctor tells us to take, especially as a naturopathic doctor, functional medicine doctor, we're following all the instructions, why are we still showing up deficient in certain ingredients? And if you're like me, we start to get supplement fatigue. I know I try to keep it to like, I'm going to take 10 max, that type of thing, because it quickly easily become this whole pantry full, these drawers full, and make traveling a whole debacle. Today I want to bring back one of my favorite guests, one of your favorite guests. We had so so many downloads, so many questions and replies to my guest Lindsay Burrell, who is the founder of The Patch Method. And she is changing the whole narrative around supplements and how to get healthy with trace smaller amounts transdermally, where we don't touch our liver, where it doesn't go through our gut, where we can have this freedom from all of the pills and potions. Thank you so much for being here today, Lindsay. I'm so excited to dive in. And by the way, because you all are already— I'm already gonna tell you, you're gonna love what's happening here. While you're listening to this and you're excited, go to her Instagram. I'm gonna have it right in my show If you go to their Instagram and you just say Natalie Jill in their DMs, there's a lot of you listening. The first 50 of you are gonna get a free trial pack of your choice. So welcome to the show, Lindsay. Thanks for being here.
Yay.
Thanks so much for having me. I am so pumped to be back and dive all into things we've been up to.
So I'm gonna link our previous conversation below, but in like kind of just a quick, uh, overview, I don't wanna get too repetitive on about that, but I know it's been a while since we talked. Uh, just to remind everyone a little bit about your background and why this became so important to you, and then we're going to get into a lot of the science and what we need to know and why this technology can be so helpful and why we have to pay attention to it.
Yeah, absolutely. So my background, I'm an integrated health practitioner. So I worked a lot with women who struggled with inflammation and metabolism. That seemed to be kind of the niche I, I focused on. Women would come to me and like you said, they'd be doing all the right things. They'd be working out, they'd be eating healthy, they'd be, you know, eating the protein, taking the creatine, and they just still felt awful. They were taking tons of vitamins, all the ones that the Instagram world was telling them to take, right? But they just still felt stuck. They weren't seeing results. They didn't have good energy. Their hormones felt all over the place. And so what I would do is different bioanalytic labs, whether it be via urine analysis, hair follicle analysis, blood serum, things like that, just to get more clarity and actual personalized data is What are the actual drivers of inflammation in your body and how can we remove those barriers so your body can get back in alignment? And so over the years of working with women and just— I started noticing a pattern and it became more loud as the years went on. And the pattern that I noticed was women coming to me literally taking a mortgage payment worth of supplements, but their labs would actually show deficiencies in a lot of the supplements that they were taking, basically just meaning that they were not absorbing the vitamins they were taking. Right. And this was a hard conversation. So I would say, you're low on this, it's driving, you know, it's, it's causing, you know, thyroid to be suboptimal. And they'd be like, no, I'm taking it, I'm buying this, I'm using this. And so I just became obsessed with figuring out how does a vitamin get broken down, which that is the science of first-pass metabolism. So basically, when you take a supplement, your liver has to break it down, then your gut has to absorb it. And if you have any interferences in those pathways, um, let's say high toxic load, right, which is almost impossible not to have in today's world, just from EMFs, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, you know, all the chemicals in our stuff that we don't even see or know. Just everything we're exposed to in modern-day society does really back up our liver load. And so our liver is not prioritizing supplement breakdown. It's prioritizing keeping us alive right now. Right. And then if you have any microbial imbalances, maybe not a good microbiome, not a good— not enough probiotics, right? You have leaky gut, maybe parasites or mold that is going to downregulate the bio— availability of that supplement. So, you could literally be taking all these amazing supplements, but you're just not absorbing. And so, when I was learning about all that, my brain went on of like, "Okay, what can I find for then my clients to start taking to A, absorb more efficiently, and B, maybe consolidate?" You know, like instead of taking 100 pills, maybe there's a consolidation opportunity here. And so, went and looked around, asked a bunch of my colleagues, "Hey, do you guys know of anything out there?" And there just wasn't anything I was obsessed obsessed with. There was definitely a few transdermal options, but nothing that helped with consolidation, nothing that was USA-made. And I was really, um, really focused on getting unfiltered vitamins that are in their raw organic form. And so when I couldn't find what I was looking for, I started trying to ask around for formulators. Basically, I was like, I'm gonna find someone to make this for my clients. I didn't have like this take over the world vision. It was genuinely to get something to the clients and the women that I was working with. And so I found an incredible formulator that specialized Eastern Western Herbs. We then matched up with a transdermal operation that could like manufacture really these patches. And then we, we launched the, um, the Patch Method. So it, again, it was never like this world takeover vision or strategy. It was genuinely, I just need something to support my clients. And for me, like, I have the MTFHR gene mutation. My daughter does too. Like, absorption is huge. Methylation is huge for us. And to have some tools that could actually be really easy to use was like just something I was excited about. So that was actually a year ago we launched, and it's been amazing. Yeah, we actually just got into Sprouts nationwide, over 500 stores, which is so good, so crazy. Um, but yeah, it's been a whirlwind, and it's been so powerful, so powerful to see and hear from women. Like, we get like Oura Ring data, we get messages and emails like literally pounding their life story and like how they have felt crazy shifts. Their sleep data has changed, their stress has changed, and it's been like the most life-giving, purposeful mission I've been on is to keep helping women really get back in alignment and get their power back, right?
That's so good. Okay, before I am going to ask you a bunch of questions about transdermal and patches and like why you chose the ones that you did, but I want to sort of talk about some maybe misconceptions or beliefs that we've had, like things that I always believed, and help us here. So like I always heard things like, when you take vitamins or anything, you take supplements and you pee and it's bright orange, it's just your body getting rid of what it doesn't need. What do you have to say about that?
Yeah, absolutely. So when you buy a vitamin, I don't know if you've ever noticed where it's like 10,000% of your daily needs.
Yes.
Um, it's literally because they are trying to put so much in these vitamins because they know you really just piss a lot of them out, right? Which is like a good thought process to have, but imagine your liver and it's just being gouged like a fire hose with 10,000, you know, worth of milligrams of vitamin, you know, C, let's say. And it's like, oh, thanks, like, that's a lot. And actually, that's where the conversation needs to be had of less is more. Like, trying to like slam a handful of vitamins is asking your liver right then and there, right now, break this down. That's actually pretty stressful on a liver. That's already inundated with trying to remove EMF and Wi-Fi and chemicals and all the things that it's literally trying to filter through, right? So that's where transdermal— it's different. Transdermal is entered through the skin, your largest organ of your body, and right into the bloodstream. And it's a slow, steady release throughout the day. This is also why doctors will prescribe estrogen patches or estrogen cream versus the pill, because they can more accurately dose out, like, the estrogen that they want to give your body via transdermal, knowing it's not— it's not all going to get broken down by the liver, right? When they give an estrogen pill, they don't know, like, is this body going to actually absorb this? So that's really the biggest difference.
So when somebody gets an IV— so a lot of people get like IV infusions, and that's— does that bypass anything, or is that— that's going right into your bloodstream? Is that— tell us what that does.
That's right into the bloodstream. Yep, that is. That's why people too, like, you know, they're hungover or they're super sick, they're like, just give me the IV because the pills aren't gonna do—
it's not gonna move the needle.
You know what I mean? So, yeah, it's the same mechanism. I mean, obviously we're not having to use needles, but it's entering the bloodstream right away.
And then what about when people do a shot of something like they do like a glutathione shot or whatever? Does that go through your liver or does that just go right into you as well?
That is right into the bloodstream.
Right into it as well. Okay, got it. So, you know, it's interesting, before your transdermal patches, the only transdermal patches I really had heard of, obviously, is the estradiol patch. And I'd always heard it's better to do if you're doing HRT, do the patch or transdermal because of the slow, like you said, and it bypasses the liver. So, I understood that, but like nicotine patches, why are those in a patch form? Do you know?
Same thing. So, slow steady release. And I'm sure you've heard, like being in this space, like nicotine's having a moment. Do you feel that way?
Yeah. Yeah.
It's like, it's coming up. People are talking about it. So, obviously, there could be some really great benefits to nicotine, right? But if you were to like take a nicotine gum, you are getting a large dose of nicotine right away. It's like, so instead of doing that, you would do a patch because it's slow, steady release. It's like dripping that nicotine in to give you the benefits that they claim of like focus, mental clarity, motivation, dopamine, etc.
Now, when I first interviewed you, you had just recently launched The Patch Method. So I'm assuming a lot's changed since then and you've learned a lot. Fill us in on there. Like, what have you learned from the data? What did you— what have you adjusted? What have you figured out that needed— that women need to know about this?
Yeah. So, you know, the message is definitely landing. Like, people are— there's pill fatigue. Pill fatigue is very real, and that is just getting louder and louder. I would say the things that we've launched, we've just been kind of on a launch rampage because what happens is people try a patch and then we hear like, can you make a, like, a prenatal patch? Can you make like a joy patch? Can you? So then what happens is we go back to our formulator and I say, Here is the goal of the next patch. Here are some ingredients that I love. And then they will work with me to say, okay, these cannot be absorbed because there are some nutrients that cannot— they're too large to be absorbed transdermally.
Can you give us an example? Like, what— how— like, what is— because we hear like fat soluble or water soluble. Does that matter? Or like, what, what types of ingredients can't get absorbed?
Yeah, so things like NAD, those would be harder to get absorbed because it's a larger molecule, right? And even like vitamin D, those ones are harder. But things like glutathione, oh my gosh, great for transdermal. So I would work with my formulator basically, and he would be the expert on like what can be absorbed, what cannot be absorbed, and even better, like what works synergistically for even better absorption. So that's what I love, like the synergy between our team is like I come with like the idea and the need of the customer, and then they can come with like the background and the science and the expertise of like what actually works and what would go good together. And then we go into like testing, production, things like that. So yeah, we— let's see, we launched— obviously we have the detox patch, which is our number one selling patch. Our second, um, one that's super popular is the Cortisol Fix patch. That one is so powerful. We have Oura Ring data on it. It is absolutely a game changer when it comes to stress, anxiety, even sleep, because sometimes what prevents you from really getting into a deep sleep can be cortisol, right? Can be high levels of stress. You're not downregulating into that rest and digest, you know, zone, if you will. And so that one was— has been really big. And then the newest one is the Glow patch. So I'm wearing it. I'm gonna put it on right here. It's so— it's It's so fun. Um, because obviously peptides are also like nicotine having a moment, and there's only 2 peptides out right now that can be absorbed transdermally. Okay, that is BPC-157 and then GHK-Cu. So the copper peptide, which is kind of— people know about it right now a little bit about like they think of like hair, skin, and nails, right? And so we are one of the only products on the market transdermally for the GHK-Cu transdermal peptide. So it's been absolutely huge when we launched that. People were really excited about it. I even had a few doctors come onto my podcast and we did like deep dives on the transdermal effectiveness of GHK-CU.
Okay, I'm going to come back to GHK-CU because I haven't even tried it yet because I have a million questions for it. But before I even get into that, I want to ask you some things that I really want to clarify because people ask me this and I also was confused by this. So number one, when we take targeted supplements, like you said, they— it'll say 10,000 IU or take whatever and you'll basically pee out what you don't use, or that's what we've been told. What happens with your patch? Like, first of all, how do we know how much is in an ingredient? And what if— can it be too much for somebody? What happens if your body doesn't need that? What happens to it?
So all the ingredients are on the website with the dosing. And, okay, a lot of people are surprised at how little of each ingredient, because you don't need a lot. And these aren't meant to flood the system. They're very supportive, like wellness patches, right?
Got it.
And so your body will take what it needs.
Our bodies are so wise. It's not gonna like—
and there's nothing, no ingredients in it that would overdose a system.
That's also part of like our formulation and testing and quality control.
Um, but yeah, all the ingredients are on the website, the dosing as well.
And then it's that slow, steady 12-hour release, and your body will really—
will just take what it needs.
So is the number the total that they get over 12 hours, or that's the amount that— okay, so over the 12 hours you get a total of that. But like, if you were to test someone's blood, it would show that they actually have that, versus how you tested before with swallowing the pills and you were saying, hey, this is missing. Is that accurate? Yes. Okay.
Yeah. So the, the goal would be like, let's say they were low on like glutathione, you know, and so we would, we would test out having them put on, we have glutathione in the detox patch. Yeah.
And so they could wear the detox patch for at least, I would say, 4 weeks, retest, and we would want to see those numbers going up, right?
And we have actually, like in clients that I've worked with where maybe before they were taking like a glutathione pill.
Okay. So like a real life example with me is I have, I have MTHFR. However, I have the variant— I have of that and a slow COMT. Typically, I don't do well with glutathione. I don't do well with methylated B vitamins. They put— they are too stimulating. They'll do that. But I noticed, like, with yours, with the detox, there's a glutathione that doesn't do that to me. Is that— what's the reasoning behind that? Is it because it's less, or it's— what's the reason?
It's probably because it's that slow, steady release, and you're not slamming your body with it.
You know, you're not taking—
were you taking like a pill or an injection?
Yeah, I would take a pill in the morning or take a lipo It's probably just too much, right?
Like, you're more sensitive.
You're like, I can take a taste, but I don't need a fire hose dump, right? So this is literally just a slow steady drip of it.
Yeah, like a microdose.
That's good. So that reminds me, I may know it's totally different, but when you think of like homeopathy, you just do a little bit. It's like, or energetic stuff, it's a little bit versus the whole. I do think we over-supplement, we over-complicate things with too many ingredients on things.
I think too, like, we're wired for like, more is more, you know? I'm just gonna take more, I'm gonna feel even better.
I'm gonna work out even—
I'm gonna work out for 2 hours because that's gonna get me the results versus one.
But like sometimes less is more, you know?
Yeah. So let's— I want to get into some of these, like what's— so let's talk about the detox patch first. So this is the one that I literally put it on my liver most nights because you said you can put it anywhere, but you suggest putting it there, which is where you'd wear a castor oil pack or where you would do something. And I, I didn't know if it was like a placebo thing or what, like at first I'm like, why does this thing work? But then my husband started asking for it and he noticed the difference. And he— the biggest difference for us was we don't drink. And then in Europe, having those drinks, putting it on at night and waking up totally fine. And like you said, you pee out more, all that. So what's happening in that detox pass? Why is that working?
Detoxing and supporting your lymphatic system and your drainage system.
So that's your liver, your lymph, your glymphatic, like you're all the—
any system that's responsible for getting rid of things that shouldn't be in your body. It is so important. We should be doing this every day because of the modern world we live in, right?
And just to put some con—
I'm just going to put a little context and then I'll share like what's in the detox patch. But why it's so important to support your liver in general in today's world is because of these hyper exposures. Our liver is working 3,000 times harder than it's ever had to work. And why this matters is because our liver is responsible for over 500 functions in your body. Like it's responsible for hormone balancing, for micronutrient storage. Literally, your thyroid hormones are packaged in your liver. Energy, and metabolism, gut. There's so many connected connections to your liver. If you are stagnant in your liver, which a lot of us are, those 500 functions are going to be downregulated. You're going to feel it. So when you start supporting your liver, just a little shift, you're going to go, whoa, like, I feel a little more energized. Like, whoa, I'm waking up not as bloated. Like, whoa, I'm waking up with more clarity. Like, okay, it feels like my body is working with me and not against sense to me, right? It just— yeah, it's just a way to really be in alignment. I, I believe everyone should be doing something for detoxing every day, whether that be, you know, dry brushing, whether that be, um, you know, those lymphatic plates that are really popular right now. Maybe it's a lymphatic massage, maybe it's the sauna. Like, that is— yes, best, best detox tool. Or maybe it's a detox bath, right? Or maybe it's the detox patch. So the detox patch was a big priority for me because obviously I was working directly with women who had these methylation detox issues, who in their labs showed liver And so I was like, I need a tool for them because they were also spending $200 to $300 on these detoxes, right? I also needed a tool for my daughter who had heavy metal toxicity, and it was like, you know, she can't really get in the sauna. There was very limited things I could really do for her. So the detox patch, we have sulforaphane, which if you get into PubMed and read the articles on sulforaphane and how it supports all 3 pathways of liver detox, it's mind-blowing.
Yeah, like I was thinking, I was taking broccoli sprouts, but so you're saying with this you don't really need to then, I guess.
Yes.
Yeah.
I mean, broccoli sprouts are so good, but sulforaphane is so powerful. And then milk thistle, very powerful for liver support. Glutathione's in there because it is a really important cofactor for liver detox, as well as methylated B vitamins. So they're methylated, which is important for anyone with that gene mutation, but also again, our liver.
But I want to point out, because some people can't take methylated B because like what I said with me, but with her, with the transdermal, that does not happen. Yes, it does not put you into that stimulant feeling at all.
Something too important about B vitamins that a lot of people don't know is that when your body is stressed, it actually pulls from your B vitamin bank to get you through stress. Vitamins and minerals and nutrients really are the medicine and the fuel for every part of our body to work, right? So when you're depleted, when you're nutrient depleted or you're stressed, your body is pulling from those resources. And then if you aren't resupplementing, whether it be food or supplementation, right?
Yeah.
Then you're going to be— you're going to feel it. Low energy, it's going to affect metabolism, it's going to affect mental clarity, all of that, even mood. So those B vitamins are crucial for liver support. And then we have the potassium, which I was excited about because potassium has been shown to help with fluid balancing. So I'm sure you, you hear like, I'm just holding on to water. Yeah, water retention, bloating, all of that. We've had some funny stories actually with customers emailing us like, I'm wearing this patch at night and I am like peeing all day. Like it's like getting rid of all the water in my body. That's good. Yeah. So lots of antioxidant support, really helping with those liver detox pathways and just really helping to unburden really the liver. And why we recommend it at night is because your liver goes through a natural detox cycle in the middle of the night. That could be also why sometimes you're waking up in the middle of the night is when your liver is going through that process. And if you have dysregulated blood sugar or you have interferences in that liver drainage pathway, it can wake a body up. So supporting that process can lead to better quality sleep. I even love to use it when I'm traveling. So, you know, you going to Europe, like like think about being on an airplane for that long and you're going through all the things in the airport. I always have my detox patches with me for that, just to keep the systems flowing, you know what I mean?
We wore it on the plane and then we slept in them too, so we like changed it out and did that same thing. And I've heard you recommend if you're going to try a patch, like that's when you typically start women on, is that right? Did I read that right?
Look at the lineup and you can kind of like tap into your body. What am I needing? Am I needing some detox support? Am I needing some immune support, right? But definitely baseline, I just think we all do need to be supporting our detox daily. And this is such an easy tool that is a low lift. You can even have it right next to your nightstand and it's not a $200-$300 detox product.
No, right. And you don't— it's not like you feel it. It's not like you put it on, it just sticks on and then you just pull it off the next day. It's not a big deal. Did you— does it have to be on your liver or you just recommend that?
No. So the best place for patches are going to be thin skin that is clean, dry, no hair, no oil. I like it next to the liver. That is very thin skin. Or you could even do forearms, you can do the stomach, you can do lymph nodes. I actually like the immunity patch over my lymph nodes, especially when I'm traveling. But the thinner the skin, the better it is to be absorbed. Yes.
Okay. Good to know that. Okay. So when someone tries the detox patch, other than the peeing thing, is there anything that they should expect to feel? Is there— could there be side effects? Is it just— tell us about that.
Yeah.
Most people report all positive results. Waking up less bloated, less inflamed, using the bathroom more, clearing out more. And then over time, right, as you're working through clean cleaning out your liver, just everything kind of starts shifting. You'll notice, you know, you're feeling maybe a little more balanced hormonally. Maybe you have more energy throughout the day. Maybe you're just feeling like more in alignment of like all the great other things you're doing and you're not fighting uphill.
Is there anyone that shouldn't be using it? Any negatives? Like anyone that you're like, no, I think it's not a good idea for you?
Yeah, so like of course, like if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, you're actively trying to conceive, you know, always consult with your physician. If you are like very sensitive to herbs, obviously work with your practitioner and review the ingredients, maybe even try cutting the patch in half, kind of going slower at it. But I would say for sure a hard no would be the pregnant and breastfeeding, because you don't want to detox anything out, right? We want to support that.
Makes sense.
Life that's growing.
As you're talking about detox, I'm like, can you please make a parasite one? Because when you do parasite protocols or mold protocols, there's so many pills. I got—
that would be so cool.
Actually, okay, add this patch with a parasite cleanse. It amplifies the purge. I have had clients literally text me that they were pulling out like liver flukes while they were parasite cleansing using the patch. Like, it was like amplifying. Or even I've had clients do colonics and use the patch prior to the colonic, and it was like flushing out gallstone-like balls.
Oh my gosh. Well, I'm just thinking like, no matter what brand or what people do with parasite cleanses, there's always like all these pills. Like, it would be so cool if there was just— you could just stick some patches on you. They make like—
yeah, it's like, yeah, it would be like definitely like fenugreek and, you know, black walnut.
Walnut.
I would have to ask like if those can be absorbed.
You could do a drainage one first, like to open up drainage pathways. Like, I don't know. Yeah, I'm sure you're sick of people giving you ideas now. You're like, is everyone going to come with all these ideas? Like, do this, do that.
No, the ideas are so fun. I'm like, I just have, you know.
Okay, I'm, I'm going to ask about the copper one in a minute, I promise everyone, because I— that's like one I'm so curious about. But I have the menopause one on me right now. I don't even know what this does. I I just put it on because I'm menopause. So can you help me understand that? It's on my wrist and it looks cool. Looks like I have a tattoo.
This one is so popular, and we did actually have a lot of people ask us about this. The question we get with menopause is, can I take this if I'm on hormone replacement therapy, or will this mess up my hormone replacement therapy? So I'd love to kind of dive into that.
Yeah, let's do it. And I'm on HRT. I have an estradiol patch on right now.
So yeah, perfect.
Okay, so the menopause patch really was designed to support nervous system, hormone transitions, sleep-related symptoms. It has like different botanicals like valerian in it, oat seed. It has black cohosh and then blue skullcap.
So these are going to really directly impact night sweats, right?
Restless sleep, cortisol fluctuations, and estrogen fluctuations. So as you're going through, you know, that midlife hormone transition, a lot of the reports that we get is like, I'm sweating through the night, I feel stressed, my hormones are all over the place, I'm waking up in the middle of night, right? Those are like the common complaints. So these herbs and adaptogens really just help support calming down that cortisol, helping regulate the, the nervous system, and then helping regulate with estrogen. They are not hormones themselves, so there's no exogenous hormones in any of these patches. They're more of like a wellness supplement to support your body, whether you're on HRT or not on HRT. So if it's someone who's like, I am a little bit worried to start HRT, or maybe I don't ever want to do HRT, this would be a great alternative to naturally support your body. Or maybe you're on HRT and you still want a little bit of extra support, especially with like the hot flashes, the mood swings, um, the cortisol. It's a great, more gentle option to support that.

Which, by the way, as you're— I should have said this earlier, but now talking about menopause, The detox patch, because you have the sulforaphane in there, that is actually good for people also that to help clear estrogen because a lot of people are scared of HRT because of that backlog and not clearing well. I have the very slow detox pathway for estrogen. So, that helps because the other way to do it would be to do high levels of DIM or broccoli sprouts by the handful. So, I like that you have that in there because that also helps detoxify excess estrogen. So, I think the detox patch makes total sense, especially if you are wearing HRT, if you were anything doing anything with HRT, whether you're doing ingestibles or you're injecting or whatever it is, I think it would be important. But I like the menopause one as kind of an insurance. I haven't been able to explain it. I just slap it on because it looks cool and I'm in menopause and I know it's good for me. So I do that. I don't get hot flashes anymore, but I want to support it. I don't do high levels of estrogen, for example. I don't know how you feel about HRT, but I'm of the mindset of less is more, not overkill. So I want to be on a small level. So anything else I can do to to support it feels really good to me.
Yeah, absolutely. It's very supportive. So whether you're on it or you're not on it, it's great. And yes, the detox patch— and that is, um, even for women with excess estrogen in general, really should be supporting their liver, whether that be with the patch or something else. Because yes, clearing out the excess estrogen is very important for hormones, for anti-cancer, for all—
many—
you don't want recycled estrogen. Yeah, we don't.
Yes, exactly. Okay.
This is the one I've been dying to ask you about. Okay. I am kind of a peptide nervous Nellie. I have not been one to jump on the peptide bandwagon. And let me just give you my thoughts around it. So, years ago before peptides were ever popular, I had tried a couple things with my practitioner. I think it was like Semoralin or Ipamoralin. And I instantly stopped because it made me super hungry. And when I went and researched about them, I was like, "Okay, they're growth hormones. I don't want that." Because in my mind, growth hormones grow everything and I didn't like that. So, I kind I'm going to put that aside. I did use BPC-157 after my surgeries. I did use it and I did it and I think that was super effective with helping me heal. So, I'm a fan of BPC-157. And, I also have used KPV, which is a gut thing. I have not done the millions of injectables that everyone keeps talking about. There's so many things that people talk about. But, what got my attention was the GHK-CU. And, for those of you that don't know what that is or you haven't heard of it, peptides are a signal. So, things like insulin are peptides. There's all kinds of things be called peptides. So, I think it got a bad rap because first the GLPs and then just now it's like everything seems like it's a peptide. But peptides have been around for many, many years. One in particular is supposed to dramatically help with skin. And this is my big— Lindsay, this is like I'm waiting for something to fix this. I'm one of those girls that has the brown spots everywhere because I'm 54 and I overdid the tanning beds when I was in my 20s. And I hate that. I don't have a lot of wrinkles. I have some, some lines, but it's the brown spots. And I just keep hearing that this GHK-Cu copper peptide is like this miraculous peptide that can help reverse skin aging. And full transparency, I currently right now use— I use OneSkin for skin because it has Oso-1, which is— I think it's changed the texture of my skin. I use some products from Timeline. I have a couple of different companies that I actually like what is topically on, but I've wanted to add this. I was just way too scared to do an injectable, but then you have a transdermal patch. I've been like waiting before I even opened it to talk to you. Like, tell us all the things we need to know here.
Yes.
And help us know if it's safe.
Yes. Yes, definitely. No, peptides are definitely having a moment.
And you know, there are a lot of people like you who do not want to take the injectable, or maybe they don't want to take 10, you know, maybe they're doing one and they're like, how many times do I need to—
we don't want to be a science experiment. We don't want to be—
yeah, exactly.
Yeah.
That's like a whole dumpster dive of like quality XYZ XYZ.
But here's what's The GHK-Cu peptide has been around so long, but it, it, the research in it was rooted in regeneration, aging, and stem cell production.
Okay.
So that was really the focus of GHK-Cu is they were using it really for like longevity studies because what it's doing, it helps with, um, communicating repair in the body.
This peptide goes in and it communicates regeneration, repair, it increases collagen.
It also will help with elasticity.
And tissue remodeling.
It's so powerful and so amazing. And copper naturally starts to decrease in our body after mid-20s. And so each year, each decade, like, you're gonna have less copper in your body, which is where you see, like, the thinning of the skin. You start feeling, like, the effects of, you know, quote, aging. So the copper peptide goes in to basically rebuild those amino acid profiles, and then you're going to see the byproduct of that, which is the regeneration of skin collagen production, the more elasticity in your skin. There's been a lot of research on hair follicle growth, so it'll actually speed up hair, um, growth. So typically hair growth cycle is like every 90 days, so they've seen it where it's even coming to like 45 days, so almost doubling hair cycle regrowth. And then thicker hair follicles. So I'm sure— I feel like right now everyone I talk to, it's either I can't lose weight or I'm losing using. Like, that is like the, the problem right now. It's like everyone is— their hair is falling out, it's not growing. There's like a hair epidemic, which I actually do believe there's definitely connectedness to GLPs and like hair loss. But ultimately, the real picture is micronutrient deficiency. Like, because hair, skin, and nail, it's a secondary function of the body. It's not a primary function. It's not a function that keeps us alive, right? It's like a nice to have. So when your body is starving of nutrients, then it doesn't have the resources to send to these nice-to-have functions.
When anything's off, like your thyroid, if it's low, that it's going to stop putting resources there.
Exactly. So, um, this peptide has just really been seen in getting a lot of results for women who, you know, really want that boost in hair, skin, and nails. But really, behind the scenes, the magic is really like the stem cell. It's the repair mechanisms that it's having, even in gut. Like, there's a lot of great gut studies with leaky gut, inflamed gut that this peptide can help support. So, um, that— those are kind of the big, big benefits of HPCU. And then because there— it is small enough to be absorbed transdermally, the patch is such a great option for those who maybe don't want to take the injection or spend a lot of money on injections, right? Like, the cost is, is so much better than when it's a patch versus a peptide.
Okay, I have a lot of questions here, and I don't know if you'll know these or not, but I'm gonna just shoot them out. So, yeah, in general, I know that it's in topical products like skincare products now. It's very expensive, but they have— is that the same thing? Like, is that—
yeah, it has the peptide in it. So it depends on, of course, like dosing and how much, right? And also, you're just, you know, if you're putting it on your face. But really, if there is clinically backed GHKCU in a product and, you know, it's been vetted like that, that's a— that is a peptide, right? So, um, yeah, it's transdermal. I mean, transdermal is so powerful.
So before you had created the transdermal patch with this, did you use that peptide in other ways?
Yeah, I've totally taken the actual injection.
Yep.
Okay, here's what I'll tell you, um, if anyone's taken it, you know what I'm talking about. It stings and it really is a throb. Yes, it's a blue peptide and it's like it literally feels like you tore a muscle. Like it's like a throb, like something is wrong. And how long it can last? All day. It literally—
that's not amazing.
Yeah, it's not a good— it's not a good feeling. And it's actually why a lot of people like I've talked into like don't like to take it because it's like, I don't like this throb in my body. So yeah, it's not fun. It's really not fun.
Okay, so but what is causing that? Like what makes that— that's where my brain goes, like what's wrong with it? Like what is it doing? It.
You know, I never like went down that rabbit hole, but actually I should because that is like, why is the body throbbing? Is it the copper? Like, it's like too much maybe?
Like, yeah, I mean, okay, that's like the same thing I think about like cholesterol medication. Like, when people like cholesterol, I'm like, if your muscles are hurting from that, why? The question should be why, like, not let me just make— take an Advil now. Like, so I always want to know what is creating that thing. So that's what— where it kind of scared me. So if it throbs from the injection, Why does it not when you do like a patch? Which, by the way, I've now put my first patch on my arm as we're talking about it.
You're like, you're like, get this in my body.
Well, I'm like, so what's going to happen? Like, is it just a much smaller amount? Does it go back to that? Like, talk to us about that.
Yeah. I mean, if we went down a rabbit hole, I bet you what we would find, it's such a large dose. That's what's causing the throbbing.
Okay.
But I would have to look because definitely the patch or even like serum creams, like they're not causing your face to throb, you know?
And what can you expect from something like this? Like, what have you seen change in your skin or in clients?
Oh yeah, no, I have seen a crazy drastic— so I've been doing it now for about— I will say this patch, it is, it is one you want to wear regularly, and you're going to want to at least 90 days, right? Because the hair follicle cycle is typically 90 days. You're not going to grow locks of hair in 24 hours, right? Um, it takes time to rebuild those amino acid profiles, just like it took time to, to deplete them. But I will say other patches you may feel quicker. The Energy Patch, within 30 minutes I have full focus activation. The Detox Patch, the next morning I feel different. The Cortisol Fix Patch, within 30 minutes I am regulated. And actually, I try not to take that one unless I'm ready for bed because it really brings me into like a, a real mellow zone. So not all patches are like Wait 6 weeks and then you'll know. Yeah, but definitely the GHK-CU, because we're looking at rebuilding those amino acid profiles. So it's just about consistency.
Like, what do you see different? Like, like, what would you see on— like, oh, you're gonna take a snapshot of somebody that was wearing them for 6 weeks? What changes?
Lighter, brighter skin, fullness in the face, see hair regrowth. Your hairstylist is going to be like, what are you doing? Your hair is growing so much.
Yeah, after 90 days. You said 60 to 90 days?
I would give it 90 days. Absolutely.
Okay. Okay. And any negatives from it? Any negatives from that copper?
No, it's such an, such an amazing peptide, GHK-Cu. Like, and again, it's been around for so long. It's just like now consumers and like the beauty industry are really talking about it. So it's being marketed really well and it gets people excited specifically for the aesthetic part of it. But it's actually an incredibly healing and powerful peptide for the whole body.
How would— how was it used before, like before it became trendy? Like where would people have found it for injury?
So a lot, a lot of times it was used for injury and then to study like longevity. So they were using it to look at how it communicated within cells to repair tissue in the body. And like tissue remodeling basically is like what a lot of the studies were looking at. And then even like autoimmune diseases, they were— there was a couple studies I read about supporting autoimmunity. So yeah, it was mainly focused on those areas. It was never really— I think the byproduct really is the hair, skin, and nail because of that regeneration and remodeling of tissue. But that was not like originally what it was founded by.
So when people take like trace minerals, like copper droppers or whatever, that is not the same, or is it the same? No.
Yeah, no, different.
Totally different. Okay. Yeah, got it. So, okay, so now I get to try the this copper patch because I, I didn't know what— how it was working. So can you still— if like people are listening and they use like retinol or they do microneedling or they're doing that, should they still use that stuff with this? Does it—
or—
oh, definitely. Yeah.
So this does not replace things. You can use it with it.
It does not replace. Yeah, those all have their own little different benefits.
Yeah.
So I would keep using the things that you're loving. Like if you're using a retinol, the vitamin C cream, red light therapy, which is also very activating for, um, the copper peptide. So like let's say You use the copper peptide and then you do like a little red light moment that is really activating. So yeah, I love the red light.
Okay. But it's not going to do like with like a growth hormone peptide where that could backfire and help grow. This is not going to create skin problems. Like there's a lot of stuff around like melanotan, how that actually can backfire and create melanomas and stuff. So that's totally different.
Yeah, this is not a growth hormone peptide at all.
So this is a totally safe cosmetic. Totally different. Yep. Got it. Okay. Okay. Okay. That's what I wanted to clarify. Okay. And, it's safe for women in midlife. Can anyone use this? Can guys use it? Is there anyone that shouldn't use it? Yeah.
I would say, again, pregnant women, breastfeeding, anyone that has a copper metabolism disorder, which you may not know. But, I think with anything, you want to do your due diligence, right? You want to tap into yourself. You want to maybe work with a practitioner to get, you know, maybe an overview on it. But, or yeah, I just think with anything, you know, you do that due diligence, you speak with a medical provider that you're working with, and, you know, you make that decision. But definitely a big no is pregnant, breastfeeding. Men though, yes, they can absolutely take it.
Okay, so no issues there. Okay, let's talk about the immunity patch. I like that one because it— I mean, obviously most vitamin C is just junk. Like, so tell us about that one.
Yeah, so this one is vitamin C, vitamin D, zinc, elderberry, and CoQ10. It's just a powerful mix of immune-boosting ingredients that is just easy, right? Easy button for me as a mom. It's easy for me to give it to my kids before they go to school. It's easy while you're traveling. You just put it, you know, I like to put it on my lymph nodes if I've been exposed or, you know, someone in my family's been sick. It's just for me an easy button to support natural immune system.
So like on your groin, you'll put it right there on those lymph nodes?
Yeah.
Interesting. Okay. And can you put them on kids?
Yes. Yeah. I have a 10 and 6-year-old, and they both, during the whole cold and flu season, wore this patch.
So, every day they had one on?
Yeah, they did. Because, yeah, they— I am like, so I'm not into gummy vitamins. I'm not into all the sugary liquid syrups, all the things. They're just— I mean, you're taking these immune-boosting vitamins with sugar, which sugar literally crashes the immune system for upwards of like 6 to 12 hours.
So, it's like, Counteracts the whole thing. Yeah.
Makes no sense. Yeah. And so it's like, and to me, I'm like, let's just support your body transdermally. I don't have to do the fight of vitamins. It's easy. And then we go.
Now, I know there's a big connection with gut and immunity, and you have shared before that there's a connection, like a bigger picture. Can you share a little bit about that?
Yeah. I just supporting, you know, well, gut absorption is a lot of the reason why people are not absorbing their vitamins in general, but definitely our hormones, our our metabolism, our immune system is rooted in our gut function. So really supporting gut microbiome is going to be so important. But the nice thing about transdermal is it doesn't have to hit and be absorbed by the gut.
So that's why it kind of fits in perfectly with these ingredients.
So that way you can, you know, have it more bioavailable.
Wow. Okay. Because you're not digesting it, you're not— it's not going through your liver, it's not going through any of that. So it's just right in the system. Awesome. Okay, talk to me about the cortisol one that you brought up. You said that that's a big one, it instantly helps you. Uh, what's in that? Why does that work so well?
That one is so good.
I—
it's really because of the blend of Eastern and Western herbs and adaptogens that just— it's a power, power powerhouse.
So it's got L-GABA, L-theanine, ashwagandha, it's got the magnesium, it's got the CoQ10, passionflower, like all these great nutrients that really help calm the body down, right?
And so for a lot of midlife women and women in general, honestly, we're all walking around tired but wired.
We can't shut our brain off, right? We're waking up 2, 3 in the morning, we're overstimulated, we have 1,000 tabs open, we're stress eating, we feel like we're in constant, you know, fight or flight mode. That's what can spike or dysregulate cortisol. Maybe you're waking up with low cortisol when it should be higher, you're going to bed when your cortisol is higher and you can't get into a deep sleep. I think that we all honestly have a little layer of dysregulated stress levels in our body because we are just living in such a fast-paced hustle culture, more is more mentality.
And so the Cortisol Fix is truly one of our bestsellers because I literally— everyone, I'm like, everyone is stressed in this world.
Um, and it's just got great powerful ingredients, like I said, to help calm and regulate the body. So I always recommend taking before bed, or maybe you're going to— you're doing some yoga, or you're going to a sound bath, or maybe you're going to try some acupuncture, maybe you're starting to meditate, or you're trying to create space in your day to just get your body back in alignment. Like, if your body is stressed out and you've— you're going a million miles per hour, it doesn't matter how many supplements you're taking, right, how good your workout was. Like, you really do need to calm the nervous system. We've got to bring that that coherence, that mind-body coherence back together. And, and so that's going to be step one. And this can be a great tool really to help support that. So like I said, we have women with Oura Ring data with like their best sleep scores because the GABA, the L-theanine, the ashwagandha, it's these things that are just like really helping their body drop down, regulate, and then drop into that really good, you know, night of sleep.
Now, what if somebody like really wants to keep taking their own magnesium, like I don't imagine myself giving up like my digestive enzymes or my magnesium or my Mitopure. Like I have certain things that I absolutely love. Is it okay to do both?
Yeah, absolutely. I mean like absolutely. If there's things you're like, I feel good on this, I know this is working for me. Like don't quit what's working, you know?
Yeah.
And, but maybe this can be just something that you're adding to help specifically with like sleep and nervous system regulation. And it's got some other really great ingredients or Or maybe you are taking a lot of things that you don't like. You're like, I don't know if I feel good on this. I'm buying these 10 different vitamins down the street at the natural food store, and I don't feel any different. I'm tired of taking all of them. So this can be an opportunity just to try something different, consolidate, and try the transdermal delivery to see how your body responds.
Yeah, that's right. Now, can you wear multiple patches at one time?
Yes, yes, definitely. And we get that question all the time. So for me, I love in the morning, I love the energy patch. It gets me really good focus. Those are like my peak focused hours and I don't have any of that crash or 3:00 PM lethargy. So I'll do Energy Patch and then I love Metabolism Patch in the morning. That one is got some really good amino acid fat burners in it. It's got the berberine for blood sugar support, which is obviously so important, regulating and supporting blood sugar. And then it has glutamine. So glutamine's been shown to really support gut lining, specifically the receptors responsible for satiety and cravings. And so I do those two. That's kind of my tried and true in the morning. Morning, and then I'll take them off, you know, as I'm getting ready for bed, and I'll do the cortisol and the detox. So those are kind of my core foundational kind of systemic systems. And I literally— I take— only thing outside of those I take is a spore-based probiotic.
I don't—
I used to be— I used to be— I used to take pictures. I was like proud of how many pills I was taking.
Yeah, I'm like, look at me and my lineup.
Um, and now I literally take a probiotic and I'm all about the transdermal delivery.
Makes traveling easier, that's for darn sure, because I'm like dividing up supplements and yeah.
I know.
Oh, yeah. I've been to Europe with my travel case of 1,000 pills. So, yeah, I do those. And then let's say my kids are sick or I'm exposed or I'm traveling, I'll throw the Immunity Detox. You can kind of play around. The only thing, obviously, common sense, we don't want to wear Energy at night. The Glow Patch is better during the day because it does have some antioxidants that can be activating. Green tea. And then it also obviously cortisol later in the day, unless you wake up and you're like high stress, anxiety, and you're non-functioning, like definitely let's support that. So yeah, really you could definitely patch stack. And this depends on kind of what you're needing that day.
This is like, this is, do you, what's your prediction? Like, do you think, I mean, I know this is your thing and you said you never meant it to be this big vision, but like, do you envision that other people are going to start copying and like trying to like, is Is this— do you think this is the future? Like, we're not gonna—
oh yeah, you know, I am here for us evolving. I, I actually genuinely do think that there is a crazy big pill fatigue situation. People are really tired of the cost and like the consistency of how much to take and all the things, and just genuinely not feeling different. I think as we evolve in the world and we're exposed, it's all coming down to hyperexposure, our liver being inundated. Micronutrient deficiencies, like even from our foods and industrial farming. Like, there's so many things. We live in a very— we live in a world that we were not naturally meant to live in, to be in alignment.
So it does take more effort to be in alignment, you know what I mean?
Um, and so we're going to be seeing some new tools and things to, quote, biohack your body into alignment. That's why a lot of these other modalities are coming out and like really helping people, like peptides or the red light therapy stem cell, like all these different, different real biohacking modalities people are leaning into because the old eat healthy and sleep just isn't moving the needle like it used to, you know what I mean? And so I think transdermal is absolutely going to have a moment, and there'll be even other things. And I think it's great. I think that it's just more proof of concept. What makes us so different is, one, we, uh, again, USA-made, unfiltered vitamins. We're all about consolidating. But how we're growing is so unconventional. Like, we're not— we don't just like throw a bunch of ads and like hope that we blow up the world. We also are not just trying to get into every store and every grocery store and be this number one shelf space product. We are so obsessed with the consumer experience. We are boots on the ground meeting women at wellness events. We are activating them. We are transmuting transformation, showing women, exuding energy into that their body is not broken and that their body is on their side. Their body is ready to feel incredible. Sometimes we just need to remove the interferences and get back into that alignment so you can start showing up for your life, right? Like getting your power back. And I really believe like there is just a really loving energy behind our company and the people behind it, the people working within it. And it's like anyone we are coming across and It's truly the mission behind The Patch Method is that we're transmuting transformation from like the most loving, knowing place. And so whoever, you know, whoever comes through and does another product or something different but also powerful, like, great. Like, I'm also— something about me is like, I have zero scarcity mindset. I'm like, there's room for all of us. There's gonna be people that resonate with us, and there's gonna be people who don't resonate with us, you know? And, and I genuinely like want us all to win. I think that there's, there's enough for everyone. And I just like, we all are here like to help each other and with purpose and to steward that mission. So as long as we're all helping the world get better, like that's great.
Yeah. It, you know, it's interesting when I first met Lindsay and she was telling me what she was up to, my first thought was I didn't think people wanted a one solution thing, like, like, like detox or menopause or cortisol. And but I realized that I'm very wrong about that because not everybody wants to do constant testing and tweaking and figuring out these little pieces. And then so the more I got to know what you were doing and then started trying, I'm like, well, wait, this is a lot easier. This is a lot easier than all the things. Like I said, there's certain supplements that I'm not giving up right now. Like, I'm— I definitely know that those are super helpful, but I've definitely added these, and I'm slowly weeding out some other things that I was adding, as you know, like one-ingredient things that I don't necessarily need. Like, I don't don't need a separate—
yeah, I think I love what I hear too, like practitioners who are actually working with their clients to get off supplements. Yeah, like, or consolidating, right? Because I do think that there was like a push of like, okay, whatever you're low on, let's just hear. And then like, I don't know about you, like I've been to, you know, before I had my practice, I had this incredible naturopath. And but I mean, I would spend like a thousand dollars on just the supplement part of the visit. Then I had the visit, and then I had the follow-up, and I'm like, and then I didn't feel any different. She was incredible. There was just other things happening, right? And so it's just like, I think, I think so many people have gone through that experience now where they've tried that route, spent a lot of money, and now it's like, maybe pushing just a million vitamins isn't the play right now. Like, maybe we need to consolidate. We need to clean out. We need to refill alter and then like be more strategic with what we're using. Like, I love that you know what works for you. Sometimes like it's a matter of like us women like trusting our bodies and asking our body. I know that sounds a little woo. We were talking about being woo before the call, but it's like, just like ask your body like, do I need this right now? Like, is this helping me? And then if you're like, no, it's not, like, be okay to like let some things go. Maybe like just have some— take some time in your life to do a little audit like, do I need all these things right now? I think that's an important question to ask.
I also, I know you were bringing up like biohacking and people are interested in more and more of that, but I actually think there's a little bit of the opposite where your, where your stuff fits in. I think we are in a space of lessening and, and wanting to less be so consumed with optimization. So like it was, it was very easy to get caught up in all this optimization and then feeling this FOMO. Like, "Oh, I'm not doing this and this and this and this, I'm behind." And then, measuring every single thing like the rings that we sleep in and the watches, all these things just to keep measuring and tracking. And, that just gets exhausting. And, when you said that everyone will go to a naturopath or their doctor and you do the blood test and the next thing you know you're spending $1,000 on supplements to fill in those gaps, I get where that was coming from because in our brains everyone's thinking, "Okay, if there's a gap, let's fill it. Let's fix it." But, what I like about about this concept is, is that microdose thing. It's just giving it a little bit. It's giving it a little nudge, not overkill to try to fire hose it and see if you can get a result.
Oh yeah, absolutely. Again, more is not always more, you know? And, and that's really when we're out with women and we're doing these activations, like that is, everyone is feeling that right now. They are like, they're ready. They're ready for something different because what they've been doing and all the things they've been doing It's too much.
You know what I mean? Yeah, it makes total sense. I love what you're up to. I love what you're doing. So that way you you can get your hands on a few of them and try them out and see which ones you love.
Thank you for doing that. That's amazing. Anything you wish I had asked you that you want people to know?
My gosh, no, I feel like we hit on everything. Well, maybe a question to you. Okay, so, so far, what has been your favorite patch?
The detox one. The detox, because it's a noticeable difference. Yeah, yeah.
And actually, you guys, we sold out twice on this one. Like, we went viral twice, sold out. But we are a week— when this podcast actually will be back in stock. So Natalie, I'll make sure you and your husband— one, I'm gonna make sure he has his own pack because he cannot be stealing yours.
He steals mine.
There's no stealing. My husband tried to steal mine this— he's like going on a trip today and he like comes in my office, I'm like, whoa, we are out, these are the only ones I have left.
That's funny.
But yes, we will make sure when we're back you, you guys are fully loaded.
I love it, that's awesome. Thank you so much, Lindsay, for being here today. This is super informative and I love what you're up to. Thank Thank you.
Thanks for having me.
I appreciate it.
