How Greg Scaled His Ecom Email Agency From $10K to $24K/month

Greg Hammond scaled his email and SMS marketing agency from $10K to $24K monthly revenue. He credits the Client Ascension program's improvements, consistent follow-up with prospects, and strategic hiring decisions. Andre Haykal Jr interviews him about what worked for growing the agency.
If we want to like talk specific numbers. Like I went right around from like 10k a month and now I'm at like 24 and a half thousand dollars a month. That's been the last 30 days. Like I signed $3,000 a month deal, a $7,500 a month deal and then a new like $4,000 a month deal, which I haven't even posted the channel yet. All of this stuff has been so helpful. Those kind of things are just so big for me and just avoiding mistakes and avoiding wasting time.
What's going on, guys? Andre Hagel Jr. Here from client Ascension, back with another student Spotlight interview. Man, I think we've done close to 100 of these at this point and so we're going to keep them winning all the time in our coaching program, Client Ascension. And so here's yet another one. Greg Hammond, welcome to the show, brother.
Hey there. Happy to be here.
Yeah, I'm happy to have you here, bro. So you're a really unique story because you joined the program all the way back in 2022 at this point almost three years ago, close to when we first launched actually. So you were one of the very first students to join and there was a time obviously where you left the program and then just recently you, you joined back. Since joining back, you've gotten some pretty amazing results in terms of your, your agency's growth. You've signed some pretty massive clients. I think you even mentioned you signed someone on as big of a deal as $7,500 per month. So you're not messing around this time around. You want to just introduce yourself, who you are, what the businesses you're currently working on and like what's been working for you recently.
Cool. Yeah. So as Andre said, my name is Greg Hammond. I've been in the agency space honestly for probably around like six years now. I didn't take it too, too serious until, honestly probably around like two years ago. And then I feel like I've gotten even more serious like in recent months because over the past couple months I've literally doubled the agency. A lot of those were like, kind of like longer term conversations with people that I started like a year ago and they all came to fruition now. But regardless, yeah, I've been in the agency space for right around six years now. I do email and SMS marketing. So pretty popular agency model. And yeah, that's kind of a, kind of a little bit of a background.
That's awesome, bro. Yeah, and I love that you pointed out immediately like the importance of follow up. Right. Like, some of the biggest deals you'll close have been in the pipeline for such a long time. And like, even for us at Client Ascension, we kind of look at you and other students the same way. Right. Like, you joined the program in 2022, you probably left sometime in 23rd, 24, and then late in 24, you joined back.
Yep.
And like, if we didn't continue following up, if we didn't continue adding value to the program, changing the way we do things, addressing students, question and feedback, then we probably would fall off the face of the map. But the fact that we're able to bring a lot of the same students back, I think speaks to, like, how we're also able to stay relevant as a business. And we also check the box of, you know, doing proper sales follow up. So it's cool to see how that works on both sides. But I guess, yeah, like, talk us through the journey. Right. Like, when you first joined the program way back in 2022, can you speak on where you're at at that point and, like, why Client Ascension was an attractive, you know, solution for where you're at?
Yeah. So. So just give you context. Yeah. I was back in, like, late 2022, I joined and as you said, it was kind of like early on in the client ascension, like, world too. I think you guys were kind of just start. I had heard about it for a few months, but just didn't take action. Cause, I mean, obviously, you know, it's not like the lowest price tag ever for an agency owner. So I delayed it for a little bit and then I eventually joined. During that time, I was like, having a client dry spell, I just was not getting anybody. So. So that was the main motivator for me because I was like, eventually, you know, while any agency, like, you can have the best agency in the world and you have clients churn. So at that point, I was just having a client dry spell. So I joined. And even like, when I joined, though, like, it's hard to admit, but I didn't take it as seriously as I should have. I wasn't joining all the coach calls. I was joining, like, here or there. Like, I joined at the beginning and like, I had that, like, initial, like, motivation. But then I kind of, like, stopped for a while. And then like Andre said, like, late in 2024. Yeah, late in 2024, like mid 2024, I rejoined and like, the structure of Client Ascension, I completely changed. Like, you guys had student success coaches which shout out to Andy because he's been, like, one of the best. And just like, from that point, it's pretty much only been growth from there. You know, he helped me figure out exactly who I needed to hire. There was. I was gonna hire for one role, and then he was like, no. Like, he. He helped me identify, like, that's completely the wrong role. And now I've hired, like, like, a really good designer for the agency. So, yeah, I mean, it's been nothing but growth since, like, late 2024, which is good. But at the same time, obviously running into challenges now with that growth. So super excited to just have client ascension help and all the student success coaches help in that regard. Cause, I mean, now it's. It's growing so fast that I have to have to make more hires and have to make some big decisions.
That's awesome, bro. Yeah. Actually, can you touch on how, like, your first experience in the program is different than your experience now? Because we talked about this off camera quite a bit. Like, when you first joined in 2022, it was like, there was a lot of great things in the program. Like, we had a lot of good training videos. We had a lot of live coaching calls. We have even more now. I think it's like 18 every single week with different experts that a lot of you guys know and look up to and respect. But the missing piece was having what we have now, which is a student success coach, who your specific student success coach is Andy. And they're there as, like, an accountability coach and as, like, a tour guide almost to point you towards the places in the program you really should be spending your time. So what's that been like? Because you've seen before and after.
Yeah. So when I joined, like I said, I mean, I wouldn't say, like, this isn't the right terminology, but I'm just gonna use it is kind of like the over promise underdeliver. And it wasn't exactly like that. But at the same time, when I joined, I think one of the big issues was, like, you join, and there's just all these coaching calls. It's like, oh, like, join this, join this, join this. And it's like, I already have client calls to join, so. So there's so much going on. And for me, I think also one of the things that. And this is, again, this. I always try to, like, put the fault on myself, but at the same time, there was so much going on, it was overwhelming. And then with that overwhelm came indecision. And that indecision, I was just doing nothing Compared to like, I paid good money for the program, but at the same time there was just so much going on I didn't know what to do. So that was kind of back then, but now it's a lot more structured and like I'm having, you know, there's office hours with the student success coach. So like weekly it's like two or three times a week I can hop on if I need to hop on for five minutes or 30 minutes, I can get any answer to any question that I need. And then at the same time we go on like a monthly call, go over what the last 30 days looked like and what we can do to make the next 30 days a success. There's also accountability just around like he's reaching out to me like once or twice, maybe three times a week, saying, like, how are things going? Looking back at like our previous calls, I mean, like, how is this specific thing going? And just like really nailing down what I need to do, which has been super, super helpful because there's also times where I'm kind of like checked out after a day and I just don't want to like say anything. Like, I just want to be checked out. I don't want to get on slack. That's been a busy day. But he's constantly in that slash channel being like, hey, what's going on? Tell me what's going on in the business. Because ultimately that's what's going to help grow it. So like I love it now. Like, I think it's huge. And like that has been such a pivotal, pivotal thing for me and how I found success. I really believe that because I think if you guys didn't have student success coaches, it would be really tough for a lot of people because while those coaching calls are good, there's just like it didn't have the one on one personal attention back then that it has now. So it's, it's grown leaps and bounds.
That's awesome to hear.
Yeah.
And that's something that we pride ourselves in is like, we want to continue to improve the program over time. We know, you know, it's obviously good how it is today, obviously. Otherwise the results that we're able to consistently help students get, you know, want to be having, but at the same time we just know we could be so much better and there are so much ways that we can continue to improve and provide an even better experience for our students. And, and I believe we'll always believe that in the day that we stop believing that is when we immediately fall behind and start losing to the competition. So that's kind of how we approach it. And so it's great to hear that you've actually seen, you know, the differences from some bigger initiatives that got implemented and. Yeah, like having Andy or even just a student success coach there to like kind of bug you on a weekly basis. Exactly what's annoying. But it's annoying for the right reasons. You're annoyed because you know you should be doing it. You're annoyed with yourself, not with the person holding you accountable.
Yep.
And. And once you, you know, start to realize that, then you just start doing the things that you know you should be doing in the first place, then you don't get annoyed as much. And now you're making progress. So I guess you talked on like the structure of looking at the past 30 days and then looking at the next 30 days. Like, what does that actually look like for your business today? Like, how'd the last 30 days go for you? Like, how's the start of the year looking? And like, where are you focused? Where are you putting your time and attention into these next 30 days?
Yeah. So, I mean, beginning of the year has been huge for me, to be honest. I went from just, if we want to like talk specific numbers, like I went right around from like 10k a month and now I'm at like 24 and a half thousand dollars a month, which is huge. That's even more than double. I don't even know. I just say double as a two and a half. But yeah, I mean, it's been huge. And like that growth has also come from consistent follow ups. For example, there's one client that I just landed. They have like six different brands. I landed three of them. And that's been a conversation. Like that's been a year in the making. Like I first reached out to them a year ago and then I've just tried to consistently follow up, not be annoying, but just like every once in a while just be like, hey, how's like everything going with Klaviyo? Do you guys need any help? And then this one just so happened. They were like, hey, like, we're not actually satisfied with our current agency. We're looking for somebody else. And I was already on their radar since I had done good work for them in the past. So that's been. Yeah, I mean that, that's been the last 30 days. Like I signed a $3,000 a month deal, a 7, 500amonth deal, and then a new like $4,000 month deal. Which I haven't even posted in the channel yet. So all of that, like, all of it's been coming at me so fast, which has been good. At the same time, there is those. Like. Like, there's pain with growth. No matter if it's. It's good or bad, it's just like. It's just part of it. So. So now it's like, just reaching out to specific coaches in the group and being like, hey, how do you handle this situation? Like, I just got off a call with. With Connor, who runs, like, a pretty big email marketing agency, and I was just asking about a specific role for hiring. And in the same way, like, when I first rejoined Client Ascension, I was thinking about hiring for one role, and Andy was like, no, don't hire for that role. In the same way Connor was like, I was telling him the role I was currently hiring for, and he's like, no, don't hire for that. He's like, this completely wrong way to look at it. So, like, all of this stuff has been so helpful. And the thing is, is that's probably. That probably would have saved me, like, thousands of dollars a month just in mistakes. Because if I hire for the wrong role and let's say I pay somebody $2,000 a month and I do that for three months, and it's the wrong thing. I've just paid somebody six grand and, like, where I could have been paying the right person the right amount all along. So it's like, those kind of things are just so big for me, and just avoiding mistakes and avoiding wasting time as well.
Yeah, that's huge, bro. And, yeah, it's not just how much you were paying them for three months, but it's. You're now three months behind, right?
Yeah.
It's an opportunity cost that's even greater than the salary that you'd be paying this person.
Exactly.
And so that's cool to hear. And that's what I love about the program. And in the beginning, it's kind of frustrating, right? Because, like, we have all these great coaches in the program. We have all these amazing training videos. And it wasn't that people weren't getting results. It's just that they weren't as excited about it as we were. And then I started hearing feedback exactly. Like, what you mentioned of, like, it's overwhelming. And because it's overwhelming, it's like, it leads to indecision because I just don't know where to start. And so having this layer of accountability to say, okay, you're hiring, go to this specific call to ask this specific question and that's it. Right. There's 18 or 19 coaching calls every single week. But that doesn't mean you need to go and spend 18 hours on coaching calls. It means go to this one or this two calls and get your questions answered in the first 10 to 15 minutes and then go and implement. And that's kind of, you know, the way I guide students now is like get in and get out. Like coaching calls aren't meant to go.
And just hang out. Yeah.
Otherwise it's wasting your time. It's like you go for specific answers or to get specific insights and once you've gotten that, go implement. And if you have questions along the way, we have obviously places that you can go to get those answers. So it's cool to hear. Like you've really settled into the program I guess is the best way to describe it to the point where like you know how to use it and extract the most value. I also want to ask you the question of like you've been in the agency space for two, three years at this point. Like what are your, what are some of your biggest learnings and like I guess advice you'd give to someone that's just getting started or maybe like below the 10k a month threshold. Like what are some of the biggest like eye opening learnings? Just being in the agency space as long as you have.
Yeah, I think, I think two, I think two things. So one and like these are going to be higher level that don't necessarily apply to an agency itself. But one is like, one is the fact that like things take a lot longer than you than you think it will. Like this has not been like six months in the making. Like this has been, I've been at this for a while and like I don't even think about how long I've been in it. Like when you really think about it, I've, I like started businesses straight out of high school. So like I've been in this game for like five or six years but it doesn't feel like that to me because like I honestly I love doing it. And while there's annoying parts of my day, obviously like those are things I'm eventually going to hire for. So I think, I think like sticking with it long enough to like see results. And if you really think about it like if you look at my like trajectory, like a lot of people look at people online now and they're like oh my gosh, they went zero to 50k a month in like six months. It's like, like yes, that happens every once in a while. But at the same time you don't even know like what the internal part of their agency looks like. You don't know if they're actually doing good work or if they're kind of like a one hit wonder. So I think like setting correct expectations on your mindset and not being like, oh, I'm going to give this six months or a year for it to work, but instead being like, I'm going to work at it until it works. So I think that's like one mindset shift. Gosh. Well, I think I'm blanking on the other thing I was going to say. Oh yeah, the other thing is like with this, like there really is no saturation. Like that's one thing I want to like say too. It's like there are so many people in this program that are in the email marketing agency space and not only in this program. Like if you look just like from a broad perspective, there are so many email marketing agencies, like tons. But at the same time it's like there are so many guys in this, in this program that are successful in the space. Like there's a ton. So I think those two things like not worrying about saturation and then also just sticking with something long enough to see success with it. Because like not only agency space, but no matter what you're doing, even if you're doing something as crazy as dropshipping, like all of these things take time and like, especially in the agency space, I think you just have to stick with it and you have to get creative on especially like client acquisition and just again, just stick with it for long enough to see results and don't quit and bounce from thing to thing.
That's awesome. Yeah, I love the mindset of like, don't give yourself necessarily like a timeline of this has to work in a year, this has to work in five years. It's like work on it until it works.
Exactly.
And obviously there's, there's times of discernment where you have to realize is this the right opportunity vehicle or not? Those are things that you kind of learn along the way. This has been awesome, bro. And congrats on the results that you're seeing, especially in the start of this year after all the experience you've piled up in this space. It's really cool to see you winning in the way that you are and I would love to be asking you questions now about in person events, but obviously it hasn't worked. Out yet. But we'll have to have you at an in person event soon because I think that's just such another dimension of the program that a smaller percentage of the program has experienced so far because we don't do them super often and when we do them, it's a big hurdle to travel all the way out there. But man, I'm excited to get you out to one of these events so that you can meet, you know, a lot of these coaches in person and even just, yeah, continue the learnings in person. It's always a different level of impact. But anyways, last, last question for you. Two more questions, I guess. One, what's been the impact of like the community side of the program? Because most people I talk to on these interviews, like they get value from doing the coaching. They get value from like implementing what we're telling them to do. But a lot of them get most of the value from just being in a program like Client Ascension, connecting with other students, actually signing clients from within the program, doing business partnerships and deals. Like, have you seen any of that since being in here?
Yeah. So I mean I've connected with a good amount of students. I even like there was a client and the deal didn't actually go through, but I was actually on a call with both, both that student from Client Ascension and, and the potential client. So there's definitely a lot of opportunities. Like for example, I'm in E commerce and email marketing. There's a lot of people who run like paid ads. So like there can be like opportunities there to work together on a single client account. And the good thing is is like the people in here are good. Like they're great at what they do. So like if you're gonna suggest somebody, it's like you can have somebody ready to suggest. And if you're like, for example, if you run the same kind of agency as me, email marketing and like you go and suggest like a good paid ads agency that only builds up your reputation and it helps them as well. So it's a win, win. I think also just like even beyond like the business perspective, like all the guys in here are so like just fun to communicate with and like hop on calls. Like even sometimes we'll be hopping on like office hours, which is like the weekly meetings that like Andy has just for you to hop on, ask any questions and like sometimes we'll just be like joking about something. Like it's not like business is serious to a degree, but we also keep like, you guys keep it fun in here and it's not like serious 24 7, which is good because sometimes you just need a laugh and you need to, like, let loose instead of like, oh, I have to ask the most serious question and, like, be so dialed in. It kind of is like a little bit of a break in the day. So that's. It's kind of two sides. One is the. Is the partnerships and just communicating and like actually getting like real tangible value. But then at the same time, it's like just sharing a laugh with people and like, just, just communicating with, with fun people.
That's awesome, bro. I love it. Well, thank you for sharing just like great details and insights from your experience being in the program. And thanks for being a big part of the community as well. I know Andy always has really great things to say about you and it's. It's always here to. It's cool to hear your name come up because just thinking back to when you first joined the program and how far we've both come since then, so I'm excited to see how things continue out from here and what the rest of 2025 looks like and how, you know, client attention can be a big part of your growth. But as a last question, I always like to ask, like, where can the audience find you and follow you and learn more about your agency and maybe even, you know, work with you on that level of things. And then I always say as well, if you're in client attention, just reach out to Greg on Slack. Connect with more students in the program. If you're listening to this and even advice to you, Greg. It's like I always just push students to connect with each other because that's where the real opportunities are. But for people not inclined Ascension, where can they find you?
Yeah, man, for sure. Sorry, I was just pulling up exactly what my profiles are called on like LinkedIn and Next. So if you want to go to my website, it's onindustries IO so O N I N D U S T I and Then also on LinkedIn, Greg Hammond, as well as on Twitter or X whatever you want to call it. So those three main places and yeah, that's awesome, bro.
Well, dude, thank you so much for coming on and sharing your story. Congrats on all of the success.
Thank you.
Early on into this year and just the biggest. And for anyone else listening, if you're interested in Client Ascension, you know where to find us. It's just client ascension.com or client ascension IO. There's two different websites you could go to and we'll keep putting out these videos. We've been doing them for three years at this point pretty consistently, and we got more and more students in the program that are winning and getting results every single day. So we'll be here and I'm sure you guys will continue to tune in and just see what other client ascension students are able to accomplish similar to Greg. So thanks for watching, thanks for supporting, and we'll see you guys back on the next one. Peace for you. Sweet.
Cool.
